Food was some of the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted. I had the fish tacos and they were fishy and rubbery. It was like eating a flip flop. The chipotle sauce on it was the only saving grace. The rice was dry and flavorless. Beans were acceptable but nothing to write home about. It was disappointing because our waiter was very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is very authentic (although they could use better AC or more fans) but due to the food we wouldn't go back. read more

Service here is great! Very friendly and quick. The food is OK. Great salsa, tasty chips, but the rest of the food is just OK. Not great not bad not memorable. I used to come here a few years ago and can tell it's not the same. Seems like different cooks or they have gotten tired, we tested the mole before ordering. I am pretty sure it's not house made. This is my BFF's most favorite lunch spot ever, so since I recently got a new job nearby, we have met here for lunch several times. The place usually has several patrons in it and the service is always spot on, no matter how busy they have been. I am an enchilada fan, and theirs are FANTASTIC. I've also gotten their beef fajita nachos, chicken fajita nachos, and bean and cheese nachos, and they were all winners. I came in tonight (Sun 2/19) around 715pm to order something to go. They were a little busy but not too bad. I stood at the cash register for a couple of minutes and waited. A couple of servers walked by; never acknowledged me. I sat down in the chair next to where they normally put to go orders. (There was one sitting there already). Both servers walked by me several more times, the male moved the to go order sitting from the table next to me to the bar. Again, not a peep. After 5 minutes of NO ONE saying a word to me, telling me someone would help me shortly, etc....I LEFT. We ate here yesterday. Party of 22. They're getting a star for having a table ready for us in 2 minutes and for being so accommodating with all of the separate checks and our kids sitting away from us. That's how they got the 4th star. Here's why the food experience was 3 stars. 1. Their portions are small. Not every place needs to have gigantic Texas sized meals but then you get an omelet with rice and potatoes it should be enough to fill you up and it wasn't. They were stingy with the fillings and amount of sides. Potatoes and beans cost pennies so it's odd. The food taste was fine. Nothing exceptional but fine. No complaints there. My wife and I love going to the Round Rock location. We have been going there about every other week for 20 years! Everything is excellent: the food, the atmosphere, the service, the staff! We've never eaten anything that was not good. Everything seems to be prepared fresh. We suggest the more unique dishes such as Pollo Endiablado, Enchiladas Morelianas or any of the specialty dishes. It has a nice, comfortable down-home feel. Everyone is very friendly and they take care of us. And the prices are very reasonable with generous portions. if you haven't tried them, go for it. Great spot for large groups. The food is alright, but the service was excellent, so +1 for that! I came with a group of 10 + 2 young kids, and they had us seated pretty quickly in the back - it's a surprisingly big restaurant. Service: A+ - Our waiter kept an eye on us the whole time, quickly refilled waters and sodas as needed, and brought out chips + salsa refills (frequently!) while we waited for the food to come. He was helpful in clarifying some menu items and offering suggestions. Food: I got the Huevos Rancheros - basically 2 eggs + salsa, tortillas, with beans and breakfast potatoes on the side. The sides were well seasoned and although the amount of potatoes seemed meager on the plate, it was quite filling. I had flour tortillas since they're made fresh at the restaurant, and found them to be alright. Best fresh, and mediocre when cooled. Altogether a simple and satisfying dish. Tacos: Avoid the barbacoa taco - absolutely flavorless. Very sad. I'd also avoid the chicharron taco.. unless you really love the floppy pig skin texture (I thought it would be fried and crispy. Nope.) this is not the taco for you. The Supreme taco was deserving of its moniker - crammed with breakfast fixings and arriving on its own plate. You want this. I've hit this place up for breakfast and lunch and have been satisfied each time. The first thing to rave about is the salsa. Oh man that salsa is soooo gooood. All things fresh and garlicy. I love that salsa so much I am tempted to just eat it like a soup. It could use a little more heat, but, otherwise it is bad ass delicious! They make their own tortillas here also. For me that is a major score! That's how it should be. The breakfast taco's are of generous portions and I really like the chorizo, egg, and cheese. They have some good lunch deals for around six bucks or so. Everything I've had has been really good and I really like the beef and cheese enchilada plate with charro beans. The chips have always been fresh also. So, really, I can't find anything to complain about thus far as far as food goes. I'll definitely keep going back and trying more dishes. Well you know how I feel about the food so far. Now let's talk staff and ambience. Every time I go in here I am immediately greeted by a friendly smile. Everyone that has waited on me has been really friendly and they always ask if everything is ok or if I need another beer or coffee. As for the ambience? Can you say airport lounge? Seriously. They have a full bar and an open floor plan. The walls are lined with "C" shaped booths and 4-top style tables fill in the center of the floor. All of this sits on top of some really hideous looking dark brown carpet. Everytime I go in here I feel like I'm in an airport lounge or having a flashback to the 70's. They have a variety of dishes to satisfy the plethora of tastes that makes Austin what it is. And the margaritas...oh...the margaritas! They are top notch along with the Mexican Martini...wow! The Grande Dip is a fabulous sidekick to any bar drink (or non-alcoholic beverage). Our favorites are the Caldo de Res (soup), the Pollo Tequila (to die for), and the Rio Grande Pollo. We try to taste something new each time we go (once a week) since the menu has so many choices. The only downfall of this place is the salsa. It has too many spices in it (cumino, pepper) so that's all you taste. Many love it though. Viva la Round Rock! read more

I wanted Tex-Mex, and I was tired of always going to the same few restaurants we always go to. Bravely, I surprised the family by trekking all the way to Round Rock from Pflugerville to try this place, which seemed to garner quite a few good reviews. A look at the menu also convinced me, as they had a bit more variety than your standard place. The restaurant is located in the same space formerly occupied by a Mr. Gatti's, so it's actually pretty spacious inside even though the outside looks pretty small. Service was great, and we had no complaints. The chips were better than the usual stuff, being thicker and more flavorful. The salsa was also great - a nice, fresh medium salsa of just the right consistency. It probably doesn't rank in my top 3 salsas in Austin, but it's pretty darn close. In sticking with the "out with the old" theme, I also decided to try something different than the usual cheese enchiladas that I normally use to gauge a place. I ordered the "MORELIANAS", which are described as "Three Chicken Enchiladas, Covered with Our Famous Guajillo Sauce, Queso Fresco and Onions, Served with Sautéed Mushrooms, Zucchini, Bell Peppers" I was a little worried about no rice and beans, but the sauteed vegetables sounded like a good compliment. The presentation was nice, with the enchiladas folded in half instead of rolled. It looked exactly like you would imagine. The guajillo sauce was good and a great compliment to the chicken enchiladas. The vegetables were outstanding, perfectly sauteed; not too soft, not too crispy and lightly seasoned. A very nice meal. I also tried some of the entrees my family had ordered. My mom had the Chimichanga Deluxe, which was covered in queso and filled with beef fajita meat. The stuffing was very generous and was very good overall. I didn't try the rice, but the refried beans were fairly bland. Nothing bad, but nothing outstanding either. Some light seasoning would definitely be an improvement. My son had ordered the standard cheese enchiladas, and they were also very good. The enchilada sauce is similar to one of my top-three enchilada places in the Austin area and definitely worth ordering. There are many other intriguing items on the menu, and I'm eager to come back to try more things. This place is a definite winner in my book! read more

Strange-ish dining experience. I used to LOVE this place, about 8 years ago or so. Moved out of Round Rock, and began frequenting the Hutto (best!!) and Pflugerville (horrible) locations a while. My daughter and I went in one week day, and right off the bat, I got some weird vibe from the place. I told her it felt very mob like.. mid day, hardly any life in the place with the few exceptions of a few other patrons, and even they looked suspect. It was weird, Im tellin ya. It is one of what seems to be and excessive amount of Mexican restaurants I Round Rock, I think there may be more Mexican Restaurants in Round Rock than Chinese restaurants, but don't know that to be a fact. I always liked what I have tried here, I had the beef enchiladas topped with queso cheese sauce with refried beans and rice. The plate and the food were hot and very good. The chips and sauce were good as well, the chips were light and crispy and the sauce was not so hot that I could not eat it. The inside of the restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside and there is a full bar. The service here has always been outstanding. They won some kind of local best margarita award in resent past but I have never tried it. The do have one large TV in the main room which was turned to a new channel. Cute affordable casual place. The booths remind me of an old Las Vegas diner. We got seated right away and the server immediately brought us chips and salsa. They don't serve mojitos even though they are listed on the menu. I noticed most tables had ordered margaritas, they looked like they must be good. The menus need a cleaning, mine was dirty with food in it. The rest of the restaurant seemed clean. The food was pretty decent for Tex Mex. I had beef tacos al carbon (comes with 2 small ones) and hubby had beef fajitas. My order was good for a lighter dinner and the fajita plate was more filling and had onions and peppers with it. Both dishes included guacamole, Pico de Gallo, rice and beans. All in all it was a no-frills affordable dinner. $25 for two entrees and two iced teas. If you ever ate at Rio Grande in Pflugerville and liked it, this is not the place to go. First "salad" dish of a large tortilla chip with cheese on it and a tablespoon of guacamole on 2 tablespoons of lettuce was horrible. Not sure how the cold cheese on the tortilla stayed liquid. Ordered a Light Plate that was one beef enchilada (barely warm), one beef taco half filled with ingredients, and again, a tablespoon of guacamole on 2 tablespoons of lettuce. Also ordered a side of rice and beans. I waited for my rice and beans, but was hungry and ate my one enchilada and one half filled taco. When I was at the end of most of my meal I get served with a plate of watery refried bean, no rice. Extremely disappointing. I absolutely do not recommend going there. read more

This establishment is the reason I am skeptical of hole in the wall restaurants. 90% if the floor is stained carpet (from decades ago), the ceiling is constructed of sagging, liquid blotted tiles. (Some hanging down or exposing holes) Chips tasted stale or store bought. (Maybe both) Anyway, we quickly decided we didn't want to eat here, but when I told the waiter this... he told me i wanted a cheeseburger (I'm Caucasian btw) and proceeded to bring me a check for 4.31$ 1.99 for 2 cokes that didn't taste right. I explained I felt I shouldn't have to pay that, and so he got the manager. The manager then said I had to pay, and tried to run off into the kitchen. I asked her when the last time a health inspector was in there because the place looked disgusting and she quickly diverted giving me answer and instead, questioned me with "Did you see a bug?" in the most crude way possible. My family LOVES this restaurant. They have regular tex-mex, healthy and delicious tex-mex choices for me, and a variety of options for the kids. Best chips and salsa around. Prices are totally fair. Friendly servers. We've been going for a couple years now. Last time we went, my 9 year old decided not to order from the kid's menu, but to get the a la carte beef burrito instead. You could see the shock in his face when they brought out this massive burrito, which he kept telling us was beyond delicious, and lasted him almost 3 meals! Also a great place to go for drinks with a friend! Very casual, comfy, and quiet. They've supposedly won awards for their margaritas, but a glance at the bar area showed too many De Kuyper bottles. We grazed, it was food. It wasn't Chuy's, but there also wasn't a 35 minute wait for the table. The queso was on the yellow side, not the yellow-white of Magnolia Cafe, but it was alright. We were in Round Rock over the weekend and wanted something close to us and Mexican, and this popped up on my mobile map. We weren't expecting much once we saw the unimpressive little strip mall joint, but once we got the chips and salsa our minds were changed. If I could recreate that salsa, I would be in heaven. The perfect amount of spice. The three of us devoured three bowls of it! Then we ordered the beef fajita queso flameado and we became big fans of Rio Grande! Just...wow!
