We, the wife and I stopped in here after our day out. It is super close to the house and we had not been so we figured lets try it out. It has a large area, when we were there is was not busy at all but not empty either. The chips were good, and Shana said the Salsa had a kick without being too spicy. The staff was fast and we never felt like we had to wait too long for anything. We ordered Queso, first real downside, not great. In Austin you have to do better. As Shana and I talked about you can take basic queso and do something to make it yours. This was not it, it was not the worst but nothing special and not much meat added. Shana got the Camarones, a shrimp dish, and it was in her words "Solid but nothing super special" I got the chicken Fajitas and felt pretty much the same. The chicken was fine, the flour tortillas were not good, they were hard and tough. They give you about 3 pinches of shredded cheese, overall this is an ok restaurant but not sure we would be back unless we craze Mexican and don't want to go far, for the price it is not really worth it.

    Chicken dinner bowl

Ordered the dinner bowl with chicken. There was no bowl, dry, unseasoned and a complete joke. I feel like my 10yr old niece could have made it better. Then I ordered 2 margaritas to go. Overpriced and no alcohol. Plus while sitting there waiting for almost 20 minutes. Not once was I offered a water or anything. Bad service, crap food. Definitely wont be back.

I've lived close by for a year. For some reason I hesitated giving this place a try. Maybe because the exterior doesn't look too inviting. I wish I tried it sooner. The food was fresh, tasty and nice lunch portion. It definitely exceeded my expectations. The service was polite and proficient. The restaurant was quiet, clean and what I'd expect from a small Mexican establishment. Nice lunch spot. I will return.

My wife, daughter and I came in for the first time in our 6 years living in Austin. We have been dissapointed with lackluster restaurants until now. The atmosphere is calming and having Shariff and Lark smiling, asking how your day is going is something you simply don't see anymore. The food is made fresh and tastes amazing. Beer is served in the large mugs that was commonplace 15 years ago and has dwindled away. Not here, everything is on par with the best places we have went to. The prices on the menu are fantastic and a family doesn't have to drop 100 just to have lunch. We absolutely will make the hike down there on a regular basis. Shocked that anyone would feel ripped off here. It's not a taco stand folks.

Why is there a screw in my pico de gallo?

This used to be my favorite restaurant. I absolutely loved the salsa. I used to rave about this place and now I found a screw in my pico de gallo today. I ordered a delivery and now I can't even eat it because this is disgusting!!

I had previously tried to go to the Burnet Road location but they were PACKED on a Saturday night with a 90 minute wait but this time I called ahead to the the Parmer Lane location around 5:30 pm and put my name in. I arrived around 5:45 pm and was seated within 10 minutes. NOTES: - Reservations: no but you can call ahead to put your name in - Parking: free lot in front of the building - Online ordering: available on their website through ToastTab for pickup for delivery - Happy hour: weekdays from 3:00 to 6:00 pm with half off some food items, $7 Mamaritas and La Playas, and $1 off cocktails, liquor, beer, and wine - Brunch: served Sat & Sun from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm THE HIGHS: - Server was friendly and gave recommendations - Complimentary chips and salsa (refilled throughout the meal) - Food came out quickly after ordering THE LOWS: - Busy around dinner time and kind of loud (great for celebrations but hard to hear each other at the table) - A little dark on the inside THE PRICE: Reasonable for the portion size and quality of food - Small queso compuesto ($9.99) - Barbacoa quesadilla ($16.99) - Barbacoa tacos ($16.99) - Pechuga Barbie ($19.99) - Side of abuelita rice ($2.99) - Sopapillas Aaliyah ($7.99) BEST BITES: - Barbacoa: delicious in both the quesadilla and tacos... super tender and flavorful - Queso compuesto: the meat, homemade quad, and pico are all fresh and add great texture to the melted cheese... perfect appetizer to split with a group THE VERDICT: I'd definitely return to Mama Betty's and recommend it to others! The Tex-Mex dishes felt slightly elevated compared to some other places and I love that they are locally owned and operated. They can be busy but it's worth waiting if you plan ahead and have the time!

I ordered 2 steak tacos and horchata, both very delicious. The horchata is milky and sweet but not crazy sweet, and topped off with cinnamon. The steak tacos came out pretty hot, fresh from the grill. I got them on corn tortillas and I'm glad I did: idk if they make them in house but somebody in some house is making these because they definitely aren't store bought, and if they are I want to know where! I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak. They have a little bar, too, though I did not imbibe this time. Seems like they have a decent selection of agave spirits, and even Campari behind the bar (iykyk). Give them a shot, and thank the ladies in the kitchen.
