We were dealing with a melted electrical panel that posed a real fire risk due to overload, and after having multiple electricians come out, none were able--or willing--to properly help us. We were without electricity for 15 days, completely exhausted, and in urgent need of a licensed and certified contractor who could handle the project correctly, with permits and everything up to code. After 14 days, we finally came across SBB Electric --and everything changed. In less than 24 hours, we had the city permit issued, a new 200 amp panel and complete installation. No other company came close to that level of organization and urgency. SBB Electric was the only company that came fully prepared with the proper documentation required for city permits. Other electricians tried to have us sign as owner-builders, which the city clerk specifically advised us against. SBB immediately understood the situation and stepped in when we had nowhere else to turn. They even drove all the way from the Imperial Valley to help us, which speaks volumes about their commitment and professionalism. Despite the distance, SBB Electric showed up and got everything done--installation, connection, city approval, and SDG&E approval--in less than 5 hours. It was incredible. Communication throughout the entire process was clear, responsive, and professional, which made a huge difference during such a stressful time. Not only was their work efficient and professional, but they also took the time to clean up thoroughly, restore the stucco, and walk us through both the process beforehand and a detailed summary afterward. A warranty means nothing when the company fails to provide service…read more We made a substantial financial investment in a solar system that was sold with a warranty. Now that the system is not working properly, SolarMax says its service appointments are booked months out. When we explained that we could not continue waiting while paying high Edison bills, they suggested hiring an electrician at our own expense. Customers should not have to choose between waiting months for service and paying out of pocket to repair a system that is still under warranty. SolarMax should stand behind its product and provide timely service. Their service department has been extremely frustrating. We have repeatedly been promised return calls that never came, and some of the service representatives we have dealt with have been rude and dismissive. Meanwhile, our solar system remains down, and we continue paying for electricity every month. It also appears that service may be different depending on whether you purchase or lease your system. When a leased system stops producing, the solar company loses money and has a financial reason to repair it quickly. Once you purchase your system and the company has already been paid, it feels as though you are "put out to pasture" when service is needed. Also: READ THE FINE LINES: Before signing a contract, carefully read every detail and make sure every promise or guarantee is included in the signed agreement. Do not rely solely on assurances made through emails or conversations. Our experience has shown us that what is promised before the sale may not be honored afterward. We love having solar and are glad we installed it. We simply wish we had chosen a company that stood behind its product, honored its warranty, and responded quickly when its customers needed service. We lost our solar in the hottest months of 2026 and still don't see it being fixed any time soon.
