This is my second time here for a Birthday party and Burton Park is a really nice place to have a gathering. You have to make a reservation if you plan to have a large gathering with today's party had about 40 people. Restrooms were well stocked and as clean as one would expect for public facilities with soap to wash your hands and an electric hand dryer. They also have a Gender Neutral restroom between the Men and Ladies Room. highly recommend this place for a gathering. read more

It's 9pm and the lights are still on at the park . I've got my own hoop while the other guys are playing basketball on teams on the other courts. It's all lit up and I am having fun. It even seems cleaner here. I still love these bathrooms they're clean and open at all hrs. read more

Amazing park! Perfect for a noce spot for after school to have an picnic, or just to have fin. They recently had a Music in the Park event with a Tom Petty cover band. It was super crowded and we went there for my dad's birthday! It was super crowded and great! Would recommend. read more

Came here to burn some time when too early for preschool, it's in a wealthier area so it's immaculately maintained and something I wish was more standard for kids playgrounds. Floor is rubberized in the playground area with different elevations and fun levels for kids to climb around without getting bored quickly. The most terrifying and hilarious part of this set is the slide is set at a pretty crazy angle, I want to say it's at 70 degrees and will send your kid flying. My "not in kansas" moments happened at this playground when I saw the Bocce Ball court and a mini amphitheater for live music and performances, two things definitely not at standard parks. I also liked the old oak trees and colorful landscaping. Bathrooms are clean and also very nice basketball courts, tennis courts, and a baseball diamond. read more

We moved to San Carlos nearly ten years ago, right before the birth of our daughter. We could see Burton Park from our front doorstep, and we were excited to have such a nice park so close by. Since then, we've moved (but only over to the other side of the park, not much further) and had another kid. We've taken full advantage of the park. The kids grew up on the fenced-in toddler playground, gaining confidence as walkers and being thrilled by the swings. They graduated to the big kids play structure where they learned to climb, played hide and seek, and "served ice cream" from one of the little openings. They took turns on the swings (asking for pushes even when they knew how to swing themselves) and played in the sand. They've ridden their bikes and scooters along the paths. As they've grown older, they've had their soccer practices and basketball practices and their games. My favorite Sunday afternoons consist of kicking the soccer ball around with my daughter and shooting some baskets with my son. Recently I've been walking through the park every day on the way to school. Aside from watching the kids grow up here, I've enjoyed my time at the park as well. I usually jog around the field and baseball diamonds over the weekends, gaze at the beautiful trees (especially in the spring when some of them flower and fall when some of them change colors), and come with the family for summer Friday evening concerts, when the entire city of San Carlos turns up to picnic on the lawn. I've yet to use the bocce ball and tennis courts, but maybe some day. This really is a wonderful park. I look around and see my kids at different ages, and realize that it's all going by too quickly. read more

Nice small park. It has some parking around in the neighboring streets. There is an okay sized playground so lots of kids may be here. Also a basketball court next to the playground. Lots of benches and some picnic tables around for you to sit in. I did see people walking their dogs in the park and even someone walking their cat! read more

this is a super nice park in san carlos! i've been here a few times and really like the layout and amenities. lots of free parking along any of the bordering streets: cedar, arroyo, chestnut, there is also a dedicated park lot along chestnut st, though i never parked there since i always found street parking easily. they have a large baseball diamond, soccer field, basketball court, tennis courts and bocce ball courts. there's a nice size playground for kids, and a dedicated young kid's playground, and lots of grassy areas for frisbee, and sitting/lounging around. there are restrooms as well, proper flush toilets with soap and running water, generally well kept. there's a women's room with multiple stalls, men's room, and a unisex restroom in the middle. i definitely need to come back more often to take advantage of the amenities in this lovely park! read more

I've been running by here a lot during shelter in place. The playgrounds are still caution taped but I see families eating on the picnic tables and playing on the grass areas. It seems like it would be great park for families once it reopens. This seems like a nice place to picnic in the summer and fall. read more

One of my daughter's favorite playgrounds, even though it wasn't the closest to our house. We used to go for an hour or so after her gymnastics class. Pros: Not too crowded or crazy. For all the times we went, it was never so overcrowded that I'd be worried about my daughter getting pushed around. Other popular playgrounds (i.e. Magical Bridge), I wouldn't be able to say the same. Separate gated area for toddlers with infant swings, sandbox, smaller play structure; larger spacious play structure nearby with larger swings. Rubber bottomed on the ground so jumping off the structures is easy on the knees. Clean -- people here are respectful about keeping the place looking great. Safe neighborhood -- traffic is not crazy, so I don't get anxious even though the park is open to roads bordering all sides. Stage area for performances -- I believe the summer music series is here Near ball fields, nicely kept up paved paths, and the San Carlos Community Center (enjoyed gymnastics class here!!) Other facilities (i.e. bocce) are also nearby. Bathrooms available in the park and also SCCC. Cons: Parking is often pretty congested due to the classes being run at the San Carlos Community Center, which shares a small lot, but side of street parking all around and leading up to the lot is usually available. read more

I was in the area and went on Yelp to look for a playground for my son. So glad I found this place. lots of parking playgrounds are fenced in which parents know what's up. lots of trees, shady areas. A plus because a lot of playgrounds are not shaded and when it's hot you know how that can be for kids and parents. My first visit here, there was a performer singing kid songs. Great spot to hang out with parents while kids burn of their energies. read more

Oh San Carlos! The beautiful view at night and the most upscale houses that I have seen! If I could afford to live here, trust me I would. I first found out about San Carlos as I was applying for my job (3 years ago) and lucky I was stationed out of San Carlos. It has grown from the 3 years that I have seen it. Nice shopping centers. Beautiful houses and condos! Great schools! And lets not forget the Deers that decide to come out in the day and night :) I make sure that no matter where my job relocates me to, I'm somewhere close to San Carlos. :) At night, when you go all the way up San Carlos hills you can see the beautiful view of San Francisco and San Mateo bridge. A+ for the variety of different schools within the area such as: Edison Montessori school, Sequoia children Center,Central Elementary school, Heather Elementary school....the list goes on and on... The area is mostly populated by families and older adults. Nice family community. There are tons of parks around the area such as: Burton Park, Highlands Park, Eaton Park, Crestview Park...The list goes on....Long story short! This recently redone park is almost ideal, with cushy ground that makes it one of the safer playgrounds and a latch gate to the toddler section that toddlers can't open and close themselves. The park features: * 3 types of swings * Sandbox * Water to play with * Play structures (fenced off area geared for kids ages 2-5, area geared for kids ages 5-12) * Large open lawn * Tennis courts * Basketball courts * Picnic tables * Street parking Tips: Bring spare clothes and shoes for toddlers so you're prepared when they soak themselves with water play, unless it's a really hot day (in which case - whee!). Suggestions for improvement: - It would be better if they had more baby swings - there are only 2 in highly populated area (should have at least 4, and there's space for it). - The park could use a bit more shade in the toddler playground area, especially on really hot days. San Carlos, "The City of Good Living" and they're not wrong. It's a lovely suburban town with Restaurants, cute stores and parks a plenty. No, I don't live here but I do come by here often. It has some of my favorite places after all - Harmony Frozen Yogurt. Check - Nothing Bundt Cakes. Check - Best Buy. Check - New Canton Restaurant. Check It was also home of my beloved Pilita Grill until it sadly closed down. Laurel Street is abuzz with Restaurants and bars which during the summer the street is filled with outdoor dining it feels more like a vacation spot than a small town in the middle of the Bay area. During the summer months there is also the impressive Farmers Market and the annual Wine Faire. The only day of the year you can walk the streets of San Carlos doing your shopping Wine glass in hand and nobody bats an eyelid. What's not to love about that? read more

This is an awesome park. We took my son here and he had such a great time. I love that they have a separate toddler play area because my curious son can go at it without the older kids tumbling all over him. My family and I visited this park on VERY hot day in the south bay so it was nice to see that they had a water structure for us to play in. We didn't get to bring extra clothes for my baby so unfortunately we didn't get to indulge ourselves in the water structure. But for sure next time we visit, we'll have extra clothes on hand. This park has it all. Three tennis courts, two horse shoe pits, four basketball courts, two baseball fields, a youth center and two playgrounds; one for babies and one for older children. And along with all of that it has lots of empty grass fields for whatever you may want to do, whether it be a football game or a picnic. They also hold a lot of intramural games at this park as well and of course most of the kids sport's events happen here too. There are also a couple picnic tables with built it BBQ's next to them and I always see people having great big BBQ parties there I practically spent my entire childhood at this park and my parents still live across the street and I would highly recommend any new parents to look into buying a house in this area. It is a very family oriented park and has a concert in the park every Friday during the summer that is a lot of fun for the whole family. read more

Really cute park perfect for families with kids 12 and younger. There's two play structures one strictly for toddlers and the other for older kids and is divided by fences to keep the children secured from the street. There's a few small picnic areas and a huge green lawn to lay out or play catch football or soccer. There's also a little mini water park. There's a drinking fountain not only for adults but for little kids, and even for dogs - it's absolutely innovative to think about pets! hehehe There's also a small tennis court and baskeball court. This is a great grass park that becomes an off-leash park after 6:30 pm!! I used to take my puppy to the Shoreline dog park and since it is all dirt, he would always end up really really dirty. However, after we moved to San Carlos, we were happy to find out about Burton's Park off-leash program! However, if you go please follow the rules so that they keep this program going. I love Burton Park. The big kids playground is separate from the toddlers, which is nice. There is a bathroom right there, and one of my favorite things is that the toddler playground is very shaded. The sandbox is sunken, so it helps keep the sand in, although it does mean there is a bit of climbing down involved for the little ones. But they manage. There is tons of space for them to run around, and also plenty of benches for the adults. I also really like that the other parents/nannies/grandparents that come here are friendly. read more

best park in the area hands down! totally enclosed toddler area. with a gate that keeps them in because an adult has to open it. loads of share. Only downside is that because of it's epic awesomeness lots of playgroups come here. Be warned because all the kids with parents who are busy chatting makes it difficult to be there. read more

This was one of the nicest neighborhood parks I've been to. Definitely one of the places I would like to visit again when I stop by at San Carlos. The people that go here are mostly friendly and no monkey business going on in this park. Even after sunset. The kids enjoy the water fountains and the playsets, and the adults, the picnic areas. One of the best mid-peninsula parks. Big kids playground, little kids playground, grassy area, bball courts (with 1 little hoope), tennis courts, water play area, and a horshoe pit. I've always been a fan of Burton Park, played many games of ultimate frisbee here... and in grade school we would have annual events here. This park has everything you need... and when they added the Youth Center years ago it made it an even friendlier place. It's a well maintained park, and I suggest bringing a lunch and enjoying the beautiful San Carlos weather. So, San Carlos' brilliant plan of remodeling Burton Park... during the summer... during Concerts in the Park?!?! What were they thinking? My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I meet up with a good friend of mine for a playdate for my 15 mo old son and her 18 month old son every once in awhile and we typically meet somewhere in the middle (she lives in SF and I live in San Jose) so San Mateo has been our spot. She picked this park and after our last playdate I will always let her pick the park. Burton Park is a haven for kids AND parents. They have a fantastic ENCLOSED toddler park with what I think is the perfect combo of sand and cushy walkway (have no idea what that stuff is called). It has tons of fun things to climb, crawl through, and slide down. I didn't get a chance to check out the rest of the park but when we were leaving it was packed with older kids at the "bigger" playground and they have this fun water feature for the kids to play in between the two playgrounds. It has a good size grassy area too. I will definitely come back as my son couldn't get enough in the 2 hours we were there! read more

Met a friend with her 1.5 year old here and we had so much fun! They have a great playground and all of the parents/kids were so sweet & friendly. I like that the playground for the 0-2 year olds was fenced in. There is another separate playground right next door for the bigger kids. Was brilliant! Tons of parking right outside the park. Frequent events in the indoor building at nights. Frequent events on the weekends for Friday concerts, Hometown Days, outdoor training things. Nice park, soft ball field and dog park too. Very clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Went to a concert in the park and it was awesome. Sound system needs an upgrade but it was a free concert so i cant complain. Dog park side is fantastic. Bring your dog after 6pm as long as there is not a softball game. Everyone picks up after their dog and there is plenty of room to run and play. read more

I need to bump it back up to 4 stars because its near my house + it FINALLY re-opened after a playground overhaul. They did a decent job but I get the burning feeling that they waaaaaaaaaay over-thought the remodel. As with everything in San Carlos (e.g., land use near the tracks at Holly and El Camino), the city seems to have several planning committees followed by hearings followed by more discussions and more hearings and more planning committees. No matter how many hearings you have, its really hard to capture how everything actually should be such as having a little play table and benches in the toddler park away from the sand area. At Stafford, the kids love bringing sand to the table serving up sand pies. The mulch next to the sand area has big chunks of wood and splinters: I'm just waiting for a big ouwie to happen. I hate that rubbery surface they have around play areas these days. I am sure its very PC but its really hard to keep one's balance and traction as you maneuverer around the toddler area. Water play and older kid areas are decent enough. It just seems that every structure and aspect of the area is over-designed with liabilities and legal restrictions in mind. I don't mean to suggest that kids should crack their skulls open when playing, but everything seems just a skosh overly safe. Back in the day, we had jungle gyms with open nuts and bolts on cement and we ended up okay. Mind you, it was the same generation that survived no car seats rattling around the back of a station wagon. Then again, those that didn't end up okay had parents who filing suits against city governments, car manufacturers and jungle gym companies... read more
