    Turkey breast sub
    Natalie K.

Sandwiches are one of my favorite foods and I especially love going to family-owned places because they always have that homey flavor that chain restaurants can't seem to get. With that being said, I was excited to try this place when I saw how reasonable the prices are and the heartiness of the subs in people's photos. Maybe I didn't order the right thing or maybe this is how it normally is but I was extremely disappointed with my order. I got the turkey breast sub which was about $8 and it barely had any contents and the cheese they used was American! It looked like a kraft slice and the bread was stale. I was not expecting to pay that much for the equivalent of an elementary school sandwich. The employees were nice but they kept questioning me about the 10% off discount I got from Yelp for checking in. It immediately prompted on my phone and said to show an employee or the owner so I decided to use it but no one had any clue what it was! Perhaps it's an error on yelp's behalf but I don't understand why they'd give a coupon code without the business's knowledge. That was a bit bizarre. The employee was kind enough to apply the code even though she was confused but the quality of the sub was not worth it. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend coming here because the food was not at the caliber I had wanted from a local sandwich joint.

I love that Tony Subs is still in business. Right down the street from where I went to high school, I've been coming to Tony Subs for, gulp, over 30 years now. This was a classic place back then, it's got to be historic by now. Nothing fancy about Tony Subs. Just a good old fashioned place for a great sub on some great bread. Of all the restaurants that we've visited over the years, no question the place I have visited most often is Tony Subs. Granted a lot of those visits, I mean a lot of visits, were back in high school but this is one of those places that we have to visit when we're in town. Typically I order the Launcher with the occasional turkey sub to mix things up. Tony Subs is a classic place that always brings back great memories and delivers great subs!

Amazing owner (Karen) equally amazing staff and subs. We go weekly for the "mixed Italian" sub. Love this place

After years of driving by I finally stopped in to try a sandwich from Tony's Submarine. The staff was friendly and I appreciated that they offered a half size sub. I tried the original sub which was good. The four stars is because this wasn't the best Italian sub I've had, but it was good and I'll return to try other menu items.

First time at Portillo's and this Chicago hot dog institution earned the hype. My coworkers here…read moresaid if I liked this, they've had better, but Portillo's set the bar high enough that I doubt it. Something about being in Chicago and taking hot dogs this seriously just hits different. I went three times to work through the menu properly. The jumbo hot dog might be the best hot dog I've ever had. Everything came together: the sport peppers, the snap of the dog itself, and a poppy seed bun I'd never had on a hot dog before. It just worked. The chili dog was a letdown by comparison. The hot dog itself tasted flat and boring under the chili, which is a shame after how good the jumbo was. The cheeseburger is underrated. Good char, really tasty, and the Comeback sauce pulled it all together. I got the fries too, which were pretty good dipped in the Comeback sauce, though nothing to really write home about. Shakes were a mixed bag. The chocolate shake was excellent. I actually meant to order a regular Dr Pepper shake, but ended up with the Dr Pepper cake shake by mistake. Too many flavors and textures fighting each other in one cup, not for me. Heads up if you order shakes here: the large size is genuinely large. Still, this is my go-to spot in Chicago now. If you're visiting, you can't go wrong.

The photos from the 1960s, showing the owners then and now, give the place a deep sense of tradition and pride in building something from the ground up. The memorabilia throughout the restaurant is fantastic, and there is plenty of space if you are coming in with a large group. The food lives up to the reputation. The Chicago dog is fantastic and fully authentic, loaded with the right peppers, onion, and pickle. The only minor bump was that we ordered to dine in, but the order came out in to-go packaging. Wrapped up like that, the steam got to the bun and softened it a bit more than if it had been served open on a tray, which took a little away from the texture. Even with that, it was still a very good dog. For the side, ordering the fries well-done on the self-service kiosk is a huge plus. They came out crisp and tasty, though in the fast-casual fry hierarchy, Culver's still holds the crown. Overall, it is a great spot with rich local heritage, generous seating, and solid staple items. I will definitely be back.

I came across the reviews of Guzman y Gomez on Yelp, and it sounded great, and we decided to try it. When I looked it up, I found out that if I ordered through the app we could start earning rewards, so we did this, and went inside to pick up the order and eat. Everything was ready and waiting in a large bag for us to pick up. We grabbed it at the pick up window, and went into the dining area to sit and eat. I ordered two tacos, and my husband got a burrito. With the tacos, I chose ground beef, and chose mild on the seasoning. They were very good, although I think next time I'll try spicy and see if I like that even better. But what set them apart was that the taco shells themselves had some taco seasoning on them that was delicious. The tacos also just had the basics, which is how I like them - meat, cheese, and salsa. And two were plenty for me, very substantial. My husband tried the ground beef burrito, which was huge. He could only eat half, and took the other half to eat later. He said he enjoyed it a lot. We were looking forward to going back, but I read just now that all the Chicago locations have closed as of today. That's a shame, because we really liked it a lot.

We drive past Grill House all the time, it has been in Northbrook for a long time (I just found out…read morethat it's been here for 9 years), however, this was the first time that we ever visited, and I am happy that we finally did! My husband and I wanted a quick and good dinner one Sunday recently, and we picked Grill House after I read some good reviews on Yelp.  Although it's a casual, fast-food-style restaurant, the menu is surprisingly extensive, with a wide variety of healthy Greek dishes. It was definitely helpful to look over their menu online before we visited, because the menu board inside could be a bit overwhelming.  I guess I still looked quite confused when I saw 2 kiosks in front of the ordering counter.  A staff behind the counter offered to help, and I just ordered directly with him.  Later of the evening I discovered that he's the friendly owner Gus. After placing our order at the counter, we were given a table number, and our food was delivered promptly.  I ordered a Chicken Souvlaki Plate ($17.50 at the time, it's now listed online for $18), while my husband ordered a Filet Mignon Souvlaki Plate ($25.50).  Each souvlaki plate included a soup or salad, rice and potato (1 piece), a side of veggies, and pita bread in a paper bag.  It was a generous amount of food! We both chose the lentil soup, which was served piping hot in a nice ceramic bowl with a lid. It was flavorful and comforting. My chicken souvlaki was tender and juicy, never dry, and both the rice and potato were delicious. We were both impressed with the quality and value of the meal. I ordered a lemonade, which is considered a fountain drink ($4.00) and comes with free refills, though I couldn't even finish my first glass. My husband would have ordered a glass of wine if we hadn't had plans afterward, so we were happy to see that Grill House also serves beer and wine for a future visit. The service was another highlight. Everyone was warm and welcoming; a special shout-out to Kevin, who was very attentive and checked in on us several times.  When I was taking photos around the restaurant, the owner Gus greeted me again, which was a nice personal touch. The restaurant itself was bright, clean, and inviting. There's also a pleasant patio for those who prefer to dine outdoors. We will definitely be back to try more dishes from their extensive menu.  I am glad that we finally gave Grill House a try!
