The sandwich was not hot (not even warm) and there were only 2 pieces of cheese in a 3ft sandwich! Additional complaints were that the other sandwiches were too bready - meaning less meat! I picked up 2 3 footers originals and it was terrible! Very bland and skimpy on the ingredients. I'm pretty done on ordering from them again. And I've been ordering from them since 1975. I always remember that this was the best sub shop around this area although I am also a very big fan of the Hoagie Hut several blocks west on Grand. I had an original 18 inch sub that was outstanding! I was golfing in the area so I had half for lunch and the other half for dinner. The bread was super fresh, the cold cuts and cheese blended well together with the onions lettuce and tomato. I added giardiniera. They provided pepperocini peppers and a salad dressings that I choose not to use since I was eating in my car plus I had the giardiniera on it already. Large menu should please any sandwich craving. I normally get the original, ,but I wanted to try the Italian beef. Remember, this is a sub sandwich, not the hot Italian beef that is dipped in au just. Was surprised to spend $50 on 3 sandwiches, but the bread really makes the sandwich and the bread is fresh and a great French loaf. The first day we were very happy. We got a ham and Swiss, turkey and cheese and turkey club. You need to specify if you want mayo because the turkey and cheese didn't come with any. But the turkey club was great and has bacon. Lettuce isn't overwhelming. We came back the next day for seconds and I tried the Italian beef because someone in the reviews said it was the best- hell no it wasn't; go to portillos for that. The beef was just barely warm, and they put fresh bell peppers and onions on it. I figured they'd sauté them but they forgot my provolone too. they said it comes with tomatoes which is different. I was in the neighborhood during lunch hours and decided to check this local joint out. I was familiar with their name but I couldn't remember if I had been here before or not. If I had then it would have been in 2004 - 2005 time frame. Anyway, I was in a mood for a sub sandwich or hoagie so I chose to go here. It's a small shop with limited seating inside and a small patio area outside. Most people who came while I was there ordered take-out. They have a big menu and a good variety on it. I took my time deciding what I wanted because among the many delicious sounding sandwiches I wanted just the right tasting sandwich for that time...heheh! I went with their 6" hot beef and salami peppered cheese sandwich with hot peppers and was curious about their homemade chili so had a cup of that as well. It took a bit for the chili to get to me as they had to warm it up but the sandwich didn't take long to make. The sandwich was tasty and flavorful. I liked the soft bread they used (don't remember what brand bread) and the fresh tasting meats. The cheese was melted between the meats but felt like there wasn't enough of it. The hot giardinera was a nice added bonus. Also, on the side, I got some kinda dressing/ sauce and a pickled pepperoncini pepper. I also tried their homemade chili. It was alright. It was chunky and helped me fill up as I had gone with a 6" sub only; however, I wasn't big on it's taste. It had a bit much tomato flavor to my liking and was kind a sour. Anyway, I really liked this place and would definitely go back. You should check them out if you happen to be in the area. They are worth a stop. read more

I was very excited about this place and the food was good, but unfortunately I have to down vote it to 1 star because they overcharged me thinking I wouldn't notice. They sell a side of pepperocini for nearly $2 and gave me two orders of those without me asking for it. I thought it was complimentary of them since it is only 2 little peppers, so I didn't think much of it, but when I realized my total was pretty high for just the two sandwiches I looked at the menu and sure enough she charged me for it knowing I never even said I wanted them. I thought this was wrong and scummy. The sandwiches tasted amazing and homemade compared to commercialized places, but because of their dishonesty and poor values I won't be coming back.
