I love the taste of the pizza and ordinarily don't like crust very much but this crust is incredible. The food: We didn't try any food other than the pizza. We ordered a medium deep dish with three toppings. One of our toppings was their special recipe sausage and it was very good. Overall, the pizza was good and I would order it again, but, being from Chicago, it's not quite on par with legit Chicago pizza. It is very nice to have a different style of pizza available in town. The location: We dined in the restaurant. Nice, big location on Main St. They could use some ambiance with some decor. Being all about Chicago, adding some Chicago art would be great! Hire a graffiti artist to tag some Chicago murals on those white walls! That would be fire! The service: Our server was ok. I noticed other servers seemed to be more attentive and informative. It was our first time there. We didn't notice the bar from where we were seated. When we gave our order, looking at the menu, we didn't see any alcohol so we thought they didn't have any. While she was taking our order we even mentioned that, shoot, we really wanted a beer and she didn't say anything. After our waitress took our order we noticed the bar. We flagged our waitress down and told her we didn't realize they had alcohol and we'd like to order if she could bring us a drinks menu. She said it was on the table. It was, but we didn't notice because it was on one of those small stand up table menus and the side facing us was weekly specials. The alcohol was listed on the other side. The print is so small and the color is weird so we could barely read it. We could see the dry erase boards posted at the bar for what was on tap from our table, but it was just names with no explanation of what kind of beer. They need to have a bigger, more clear drinks menu that's made available when you sit down, and there needs to be more explanation on their beers, at least telling if it's an IPA or what. Fantastic pizza. The sausage was off the charts. Appetizers were fine, but nothing special. I say save your appetite for the pizza. Some complain it's not authentic Chicago style.... I don't know, but it's authentically awesome. The pizza is pricey, but comparable to any other dining out experience for a group of 6. Service was great. We went for a family Christmas dinner. I accidentally left a Christmas card that my dad gave me at the table. I didn't realize it until we got home, I called right away and the staff found it. My cousin suggested this location for similar-to-Chicago-pizza.... It was far from it. The pizza received was slightly better (4/10) than frozen from the store. Our salad (8/10) was good and probably the best thing I suggested there. The server we had was short, disengaging, forgetful of our order three times and when asking for anything she rolled her eyes repeatedly. We ordered 5 Pizza's from Burts Place for a Surprise Birthday Party for pickup. We have eaten in the restaurant a few times since it opened and loved the pizza so decided to have it for the party. Husband & I shared a medium deep dish pizza (so we had leftovers); again, the pizza was so good! Man, Man, Man......let me start with the ambience as usual. This is a newly constructed building and Burt's is nestled right into the first floor. Its has a very modern and hip feel but a few of the chairs I think where the classic white and red checkerboard which is a throwback to classic pizzerias.It's part of the iconic Lafayette Indiana downtown scene on Main St. so definitely it's a whole vibe. My server Ian seemed like a genuinely happy to be there type of guy and he was knowledgeable about all of their products I mean in detail as well as many of their (competitors) products. And most importantly the food.....first bite tastes like you just died and you see the gates and St. Peter says come on in and you know you've made it. See some places claim to have fresh ingredients but in that first bite I had to ask about the chicken. They prepare their chicken from fresh breasts that they season and cook themselves. He said the same chicken is used for the tenders so I'm getting that next time. And jolly me oh my the mule I had.....they do some crazy prestidigitation with Fanta and it comes out tasting like the got the recipe from Merlin the greatest magician ever. Had a great experience at Burts. We tried the deep dish and the regular style. They make them in a pan so the edges and the bottom get a little crunchy and chewy. Might not be for everyone, but our table loved the flavor and the style of crusts. Due to the edges becoming done, the pizzas take a little longer, but they were upfront about that with us. It was worth the wait, I'll be back. My friends already went again. My friends gave me a sample of a cold piece from their fridge and it was even better. read more

I have heard this place is awesome by several people and my boys. So I decided to give it a try with my 12 year old son. It was not at all good. The service was not great. First off let me tell you that there was more workers in the place than customers. I walk in and stood at the front door for at least 5 minutes. Employees looked at me and did not say a word. Bread sticks were not warm and only one order had garlic on them. Deep dish pizza had some garlic powder sprinkled on the bottom of the pan but the crust otherwise was bland and had minimal toppings. It too was only warm. The thin crust was better but we had chicken as a topping that was unseasoned. The waiter seemed puzzled by the breadsticks not being hot or brushed with garlic seasoning. $90 for two pizzas and six drinks. Ridiculous for poor pizza. Will not return. read more

We ordered pickup from Burt's, and will *definitely* be coming back for more! The toppings were fresh and delicious -- I especially loved the fresh garlic -- and the crispy, cheesy crust was cooked to perfection! My bf and I split a 10" and it was the perfect amount, though next time I'll probably get my own so I have leftovers. When I placed my order, the projected wait was 45 minutes, and it was hot, fresh, and ready when I arrived. I was excited to visit but came away extremely disappointed. Ordered a 16 inch deep dish with mushroom and pepperoni. As others have commented, it was very doughy with fewer toppings than I would have thought. It cost about $35 not including the tip. It tasted OK, but I was not impressed. Went to Burt's Lace the other night and had a fantastic pizza, the service was excellent as well. We knew Burt from back in the early Pequod days in Morton Grove, IL. Anthony Bourdain featured him on one of his shows, he loved Burt and his pizza (and Bourdain was a real New York pizza snob). Saveur Magazine put his pizza on their magazine cover (which made it impossible to get a table). Burt's was ranked top ten in many polls nationwide . Delicious pizzas. Don't expect a stuffed pie or butter crust like Giordano's or Lou's--the deep dish here is more of a Midwest hybrid, bringing in the best of Chicago and Detroit with a clean, chunky sauce. Highly recommend the house-made sausage. read more

Chicago transplant from Lafayette. Ive been eating at the original Burt's in Morton Grove for years. This is good pizza. I've never had the thin crust so I can't comment but the deep dish is one of my all time favs. Service was fast and friendly. Chicago born and raised critic here, this place has a decent taste. It does feel like a hybrid combo of high quality deep dish Chicago and low quality mad mushroom pizza. Weird.
