The first customers in on a Wednesday evening (a trend I am finding happens just about anywhere in Corpus if you arrive before 6 pm) which meant we had the bar, and bartender to ourselves! Incredibly attentive (by default) he was great at answering our questions and making recommendations. I tried out the Balacera - boasting both mezcal and absinthe, two widely hated spirits on their own which had the potential to make it disgusting...and it was fantastic! Super unique and refreshing on the particularly muggy day. We also ordered a cherry vodka soda, which came topped with homemade maraschinos and juice, which was equally tasty. We also tried out a gin daisy and ghost of greyhound (a nod to the location previously being a bus station, hence, the BUS moniker). The gin daisy was a little too heavy on aperol for my tastes, but the ghost was another hit. It was great to see a specialty menu of drink combinations you don't often find. We didn't stick around for food, but couldn't help but take in the cute decorations and details both inside and out. A fun addition to the widening "trendification" of downtown Corpus. I do believe I will be adding this to my rotation when in town! read more

This was certainly a cute place to stop them and have dinner. My wife had a Cobb salad, which was delicious. I had a hamburger that was very good, and their french fries that are called something other than french fries were great! I think they were called potato cracklings. I didn't see a mock tail menu but the bartender said she could make me a strawberry lemonade. She even told me to let her know if it was too tart because usually the alcohol taste covers the tartness. I thought it was delicious as it was but I appreciated her checking in to make sure I liked it. I was with a group drinking beers and she didn't even charge me for my drink. We arrived on a Saturday right when they opened at 11 a.m. A DJ was already set up playing house and moombah, which gave the place a relaxed, fun vibe. We brought our dogs and were glad to see it was dog friendly with plenty of seating options. There were regular chairs, high chairs, Adirondack-style seats, bench tables, and umbrella-covered spots. Lots of places to sit and spread out. We went inside to the bar first and noticed they made carajillos. We ordered a couple before getting food. They were excellent--espresso with Licor 43 and a touch of orange. The flavor was rich with a hint of citrus, and they were only ten bucks, which felt like a steal. Food is ordered separately from a walk-up window or using a QR code. It was their first weekend rolling out the QR system, and there was a glitch. When we ordered through our phones, someone else's order ended up on our tab. Not a big deal--they voided it and fixed it at the window. For food, we had the fajita steak hash, ahi tuna tostadas, croissant beignets, and empanadas. The hash was solid. The eggs were cooked just right, the steak was tender, and the potatoes were crispy and well seasoned. The tostadas had great flavor. The tuna was fresh, and the sauce on top blended citrus, spice, herbs, and cheese in a balanced way. The empanadas were golden and crispy on the outside, with soft, spicy potato filling inside. The beignets were standout--bite-sized, puffy, and packed with flavor. They came with two sauces: a chocolate one and a creamy vanilla-orange sauce that paired perfectly without overpowering. Overall, the food and drinks were excellent. The QR code issue was a hiccup, but hopefully it's fixed now. The only downside was the subwoofer. It made the place vibrate a bit too much and felt unnecessary. It was also a little warm, and more fans would have helped, but it is summer so it's understandable. Good spot to hang out, and being dog friendly is a huge plus. read more

We rarely hang around the downtown area, but my first time here was with a couple of girlfriends and I don't quite remember the cocktail I got, but it was so darn good! It was very refreshing and light, and it reminded me so much of one of my favorite cocktails from a bar in Sacramento that was called the Kiss & Tell. The food here is one the lighter side, which is fine but still so very delicious. We got the Potato Empanada, Chicken Quesadilla, and the Tuna Tostadas. All were great choices, but I will say that the empanadas are my favorite. The bartenders are really friendly and helpful when it comes to deciding on drinks, and they have awesome recommendations! Such a wonderful environment to hang out and dog friendly! We have taken our fur babies here once, and they just love to people watch! read more

Moving back to CC has been fun as I get to check out all the new (to me) venues. This venue, BAR (stands for Bar Under the Sun) is located in downtown Corpus Christi was fun to check out. It happened to be a Sunday funday type of day - hung out on the outside cocktail garden area which is pet friendly while listening to a local musician who is a lead singer of a band here. This upbeat establishment use to be the Greyhound Bus Station back in the day. The decor was chic & classy and loved the offered yard games. The signature cocktails were divine. The bartenders were so impressive. Parking was easy breezy. The atmosphere was sexy & attractive. There is a great food (kitchen) option but was so hungry that I failed to capture photos of Achiote Grilled Chicken Sandwich & Pimento Cheese Firecrackers; maybe next time. This is a pretty cool craft cocktail and patio bar in downtown Corpus and I enjoyed my time here with friends while visiting a month or so ago. Very trendy! Apparently this place used to be an old Greyhound bus station turned bar, Bar Under the Sun (BUS), perfectly fitting and super cool history of the building. The bar has weekly cocktail specials, happy hours, food trucks, live music, yard games, and more. BUS is also pet-friendly! The margaritas we got on the patio bar were pretty good and the bartender was super nice, but I do wish they were playing music outside. I'm not sure if this is standard, but when we went around 10 PM on Saturday night, there was no music! Super weird but not too big of a deal. I think a live musician just finished up which is may explain the lack of music? I'd definitely come here again and recommend it to people looking for some drinks in a cool, vibrant setting. read more

Got the Poblano burger with a side of fries and it was absolutely excellent. Overall one of the best burger/fry pairings I've had. The fries are cut in a unique wedge style, and double fried on the outside for a nice crisp. They were served with a dill-based sauce for dipping that went equally well with the burger. The burger itself was a good size, and popping with flavor. The majority of the poblano flavor comes from the whole roasted poblano itself, which is slide between the patty and bun. Also complimented by a garlic chipotle spread that was uniquely good in its own right. Overall, a great quality meal to get from a bar scene in downtown Corpus. The bar itself has a whole selection of unique cocktails but I just picked up a quick Nueces Chamoy pour for $5. read more

Not sure how often they host the farmers market/vendor fair but it was great to see. Couple of food trucks - we tried the pizza truck. The pizza came out with in a super cute envelope type bag. Inside bar was super busy for a Saturday afternoon and the wait was lenghty. Really like how it's an open-air bar! From beer selection and cocktails, outside patio, to the human size chess. It's an awesome/chilled spot, that's also dog friendly. Nice place to hangout at with a group of friends. Although Bus doesn't serve food, they always have some sort of food truck available to enjoy with your drink of choice. Limited indoor seating as it is mostly available outdoors. Seating is optimal if you arrive early in the night, otherwise you can hangout by the bar or play washer toss. I do hope they add more tables and chairs as the establishment is becoming more and more popular. Parking can also be a challenge but that's standard for downtown. read more

I'm not a resident of Corpus Christi, but every time I travel there, I make a point to visit BUS. It's hands down one of the best bars in Corpus. The other night, I had an amazing cocktail, ghost of the greyhound. It's was a modern twist on a greyhound. It's was fabulous and very well balanced. I also love this place because of its chic upscale atmosphere. There's a lot of fun games outdoors, like cornhole and giant Jenga. Overall, an excellent bar for a millennial's night out. read more

I freaking LOVE coming here! The vibes are refreshing, the location is great and easy to find. I tried the mini corn dogs- so good. But I also tried the quesadillas and no question about it, 10/10. Finally had the chance to try this bar after being told how great it is by so many people! We went late on a Saturday night and the place was decently busy. I ordered the drink, "Ghost of the Greyhound," which was tasty and strong! Prices for drinks are a little high in my opinion. The atmosphere is very unique! The bar is an old bus station transformed. This bar has an overall classy and trendy vibe. There's not a whole lot of space indoors, but there is a large outdoor space with games and a food truck. Ok so I loved this place, really really did. Especially their variety of mezcal drinks that were exceptional in my opinion. It is hard to find places that do them right, our bartender was exceptional as well. Closed out, left a cash tip because taxation is theft and if you are in the service industry you understand this. Fast-forward a couple days and I get an alert from my credit card asking if I had left a 57% tip. Was my cash tip 57%, NO but it was in the 30% range, fair I would say. SO now i find myself needing to get on the phone with my credit card and dispute charges. To me this is just a shady business practice, my advice if going into this establishment is take COLD HARD CASH. read more
