This is the best Thai restaurant I have visited in many years. On my last visit i brought my sister from Vancouver and a couple of nieghbors as a special treat for helping me move. We got 4 separate dishes and shared them all. Everything was delicious and I had the pleasure of enjoying a second Thai feast the next day. My first visit was 3 years ago and I fell in love with the place. If you have a group you might want to check out the floor seating with sunken tables. Be careful and keep your receipts. I went there this past Saturday for lunch with my husband and a couple friends. The charge just hit my CC and they tacked on more tip after I left. I paid 18%, not 20 % because they didn't bring drink refills and forgot to bring extra spices, they said they would bring. Additionally hurried us out the door. Decent Thai food with a separate vegetarian menu, much of which can be made vegan. We stopped for dinner on a Sunday around 6. The place was a quarter full but was pretty full by the time we were done. We ordered three dishes, all at 4 out of 5 spiciness. It took quite some time for the food to arrive: around half an hour. We ordered: -Vegetarian curry (red curry) ($18 plus tax) -- this was one of more disappointing Thai curries I've had in some time. The curry was rather watery, lacking flavour depth and complexity. It did come with plenty of steamed tofu and mixed vegetables, but this recipe needs some work. 2.5/5 -Rama Tofu ($18 plus tax) -- deep fried tofu on a bed of raw spinach leaves with a nicely sweet and savoury peanut sauce. Not sure why they served it on raw spinach (rather than cooked), but the tofu and sauce were good. Solid enough. 3/5 -Pad See Ew with steamed tofu (made vegan) ($19 plus tax) -- authentically prepared with wide rice noodles, accompanied by steamed tofu and lots of broccoli, coated in a sweet soy sauce. Very tasty. 3.5/5 The spiciness could've been amped up for a 4 out of 5, but I guess they're catering to the local palate? Friendly service even if it took quite a while to get our food. Solid enough Thai, but Thai Mason (next to Trader Joe's) serves up more authentic Thai food. read more

Pretty good. This place completely depends on what meal you get. They have their own unique style of flavors and they put their own spin on things, not all of which are my favorites. For example, today I got the Khao Soi. Instead of doing a traditional northern Thai style, they use Ramen noodles and their broth is very much a yellow curry instead of a red curry with some yellow and turmeric. I have been here a number of times, and I would say the service is typically just average. Not bad, not great. It is a pretty cool setting as far as their decor and their ambience goes. And they do have one section that is more traditional Thai style seating. read more

A couple things, my server was wonderful and the atmosphere of the place was lovely. I am a thai food connoisseur, but this place was dreadful. I ordered my favorite dish, Khao Soi, and was given something unlike any curry Ive ever tasted. I genuinely received the most tasteless, thin and runny curry Ive ever had the displeasure of eating. It genuinely tasted like they used water as a base for the curry. For some ungodly reason, they added carrots, spinach, mushrooms and SNAP PEAS? I had ordered the dish and asked for no mushrooms (snap peas wasnt listed,) and was given the most harrowing experience. I genuinely think it was pre-made and microwaved. We usually dine in but tonight we did take out. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Busara has always been great but this time sadly our food was just mediocre. The curry was watery, more like a soup. The Po- tuen was watery as well but possibly that is the way it's supposed to be as we've never order it before. The orange beef had a cornstarch like coating on the beef and the sauce was watery as well. Maybe it was just an off night? With so many other choices I think I will try somewhere else next time. read more

Ok, so my husband and I stopped here on a whim, and we are so glad we did. First the ambience is lovely, they have a wonderful interior and some large family style seating areas which is perfect. But onto the most important bit, the food! I decided to go with the chicken pad Thai, because it is a love of mine. And I was not disappointed! This pad Thai was saucy and the rice noodles were delish. My husbands dish was even better, his wise rice noodles were divine, and the yummy sauce was carmelized, the peppers and basil were also just right. My Spousal Unit and I joined her sister and partner at Busara for dinner this evening, and this restaurant is excellent! We're all Thai cuisine aficionados, so our expectations were pretty high. Busara exceeded those expectations. Here's why: 1. The menu is varied and extensive, providing choices to suit most tastes and appetites. 2. The four of us ordered different dishes, none of them similar. Pad Scallop was prepared very simply, with just large scallops, shiitake mushrooms, and snow peas in a mild sauce. My fried rice, with chicken, sausage, and prawns, had a piquant curry flavor, and plenty of diced onions, scallions, cashews. Pad Thai can be often made with a lack of effort at many restaurants, but this wasn't the case At Busara! Noodles were cooked perfectly, as was the chicken, and the sauce was just plain perfect. I don't remember the fourth entree's name, except it was a noodle dish packed with prawns and sautéed vegetables. Superb flavor! 3. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and very competent. Our food was delivered quickly, and exactly as requested. 4. Three of the four entrees were of sufficient quantity to provide another meal. The fourth was just right for my Spousal Unit, leaving her happily full and satisfied. 5. Very good value for what we received. My only suggestion would be to stock at least one brand of alcohol free beer. But the lack of that in no way detracted from an outstanding dining experience. read more

Super friendly servers and they were very attentive even with a packed house on a Friday night. We ordered this steamed seafood dish that came wrapped in foil that was amazing. Service: Came here Sunday evening with 4 other friends and were seated immediately at one of the raised seating areas (where you take your shoes off). Our waitress came and grabbed water orders then quickly returned with our drinks. She promptly kept our tea refreshed during our whole trip which was appreciated. After that, everything proceeded as normal with ordering food and paying. Food: this was my first time trying pad Thai and I thought it was pretty good! I even took home left overs since the portions are so large. I am usually pretty bland, but I got a 2/5 spicy rating to push myself a little and I didn't think it was TOO spicy (whether that be a good thing or not for you). Venue: I liked the venue. Very clean and nicely decorated without being too gaudy and themed. It would be an acceptable date night or place to take your family when they're in town! Came here for the first time since another place was delayed opening for 30 minutes. Glad we did. Curry dish was very good but it's city wide that Thai Spicy--level 5--is wimpy in this geographic area. I'm used to level 4 in San Francisco and Los Angeles areas being like fire. Level 5 in Bellingham is more like a 2 to me--after trying 6 to 7 Thai restaurants in this area. Hmmm? I've eaten with individuals born and raised in Thailand AND others who lived and worked for 6+ years in Thailand and when I asked for level 4 damn it was flavorful and HOT. My mouth was on fire for at least 2 hours after the meal. This was at restaurants in downtown Los Angeles and Westminster, CA. Perhaps there is more of a Northern Thailand influence in the greater Los Angeles area. Grew up eating all kinds of Asian food growing up in Los Angeles and wife grew up, where I met her, in Monterey Park, CA. I'm gonna have to research this. Enjoyed the meal and the great service. Food was a 6 out of 10. My dish was a yellow curry; asked for a spice level of five. I would rate it as a 2 or 3. In other words the spice level was for Americanized Thai food not Thai food. Chicken was over cooked and dry. My wife's dish was bland in her words. Service was below average. Waitstaff was not as attentive as they could have been. The place seemed pretty busy with takeout orders left and right. There are a few family sitting down. The phone seemed to be ringing off the hook So this was a good sign at this place was tasty. We tend to get boring pad Thai or wherever we go to a Thai restaurant and this was extremely tasty. Most disordered a three-star and it was a little bit more kick than I was expecting but it wasn't in a negative way. Most of us had leftovers to take home for tomorrow. We left the restaurant content but not without first buying some of their amazing salad dressing that came with their little complimentary salad. I couldn't pinpoint the taste but it was amazing. We moved up here 3 years ago from San Francisco and have been hunting for good Thai. We finally have our spot. If you are use to panang curry.... I recommend the gang gai. As their panang curry has peanut. In SF that wasn't how it was made, so I'm glad I read the descriptions before ordering. We also had the crab ragoons. Very tasty as well. We heard this was "the best Thai food in Bellingham." The Thai iced tea was yummy. That's the best thing I can say. We ordered the Panang chicken curry with peanut sauce and the scallops with snow peas and shiitake mushrooms. The chicken was dry and chewy with no curry taste at all, only peanut. The scallop dish was flavorless and was nearly all snap peas with three pieces of shiitake and four pieces of scallop and NO FLAVOR!! We sent our meal back and will not return. Even though our waitress offered to let us speak with the owner and we said no, the owner came to our table and told us we were "free to go." So, I guess the service was good? read more

Sorry but I was totally disappointed with my lunch today. Really nothing redeeming. The meat was dry and chewy. It was supposed to be pork but I honestly couldn't tell if it was chicken or pork. The vegetables were OK but in a watery sauce. There were two big scoops of rice in my take-out order so it ended up being way too much food for a lunch, but not tasty enough to even eat. Convenient location drew us here since we'd been shooping at REI and Dollar store, plus we were meeting my niece who is in University who only has a bicycle. Service with a smile but the food was kinda slow coming out. Plates are shareable size, pretty and slightly tasty but nothing extraordinary. I took my daughter here on the fly. first glance at menu, it's expensive. I will never go here again and here's why, the chicken satay comes with a tiny little amount of peanut sauce for 4 chicken skewers, like 2 tbs. We asked for more as you barely dip not even 2 pieces and it's gone. Other meal was Kee Mau and it had cold, warm and hot spots throughout. not cooked well. I asked for it to be heated up and it came back without the rice. waiter stated they were making a switch and would bring the rice, he never did. I get the bill and they charged $3.00 for the amount of peanut sauce the satay should have had. And the waiter didn't want to reduce the cost of meal for never bringing the rice. He states "it comes together" and I never got it but had to make a case for not being charged? No thanks, never again. read more
