I started to go to Whataburger but saw this place and though I'd give them a try since I've never been there. I drove up and saw kids coming to cars to take orders and thought that was cool. But, when I asked the kid if he had a menu for me to look at he said no, and pointed to the side of the building. That would have been fine if I could read it from where my car was parked. I felt a bit rushed so I just asked if they had chicken strips and ordered that. I got my order fairly quickly (which was great, I'll give them that!) but when he handed me my drink, the outside of the glass was dripping with soda. I asked the kid if he had any napkins, and he said 'in the bag.' Well yes, they were in the bag, but they were inside a box with the food. So here I am, holding the drink out the window with one hand, digging for napkins with the other hand so I don't drip all over my car. Once I got the drink cleaned up and was ready to go, I realized I was blocked in! I couldn't get out of the drive until the guy in front of me moved out of the way. I sat there for about 5 minutes before someone finally took their order! (Why they took mine before his, I have no idea!) I had to wait another 5 minutes until people in the drive through lane next to me left. Their website says, "the industry's fastest drive-through." It certainly wasn't in my case. The whole experience was rather odd, and I felt like cattle. And the food . . . it's just plain old, ordinary, fast food, nothing special whatsoever. Next time I'll go to Whataburger! read more

Good fried chicken and really good fried gizzards and livers. I used to come to the one way up north in Lago Vista (almost like Canada North hahah) to get some of this fried chicken goodness but now, they have opened a joint in Slaughter and Brodie! When i feel like eating friend chicken, this place is the first place to come to mind. Also for fried gizzards/livers. The mac and cheese though tastes like its prepared by a 7 year old... too bland and just all around plain. Fries was just ok and so is the rest of their side offerings... Come here for fried chicken. Oh lawd. This place is winning my heart over. And doing other things to my heart that I'd rather not think about. I've actually skipped on Bill Miller for this place. That really says a lot. Food is delicious, served piping hot, and the service is extremely quick. The sweet tea makes your face pucker. The staff is super sweet and always ensures that you're happy. My only gripe? Not enough gravy. But that's just my stomach speaking. Oh, and this place always airs Fox news on one of the TV's, which is interesting. But that's fine. One thing can be said, the fast-food Fried Chicken market seems to be dying. Every big place is folding in rotisserie or baked chicken, and Fried Chicken seems to be relegated to a paraiah status, associated with the stereotype of the less than intelligent red-state big box store shopper that can't locate any country on the globe, drives an oversized vehicle, and does not know a damn thing about international football. Trashy food for trashy people, so they say. But dammit, as a Texan, sometimes you NEED Chicken Strips smothered in white gravy and hot sauce. Heck, it isn't even a Texan thing, it's an AMERICAN thing. I may have driven up to this restaurant in a Hybrid Honda wearing a Cheltenham FC scarf, but after eating my #6 family meal, I felt good...American, and clean. The chicken is tender, juicy, and the crust is great. The big selling point is that the Gravy is actually good, and BY GUM THEY GIVE YOU A LOT OF IT. Yeah, at pretty much every other Fried Chicken restaurant, when you get a cup of white gravy, it's gone before you finish half the meal and you have to ask for or buy more. NOT AT BUSH'S. They give you enough gravy to allow your chicken to swim comfortably in tasty goodness. Great. The rolls are sweet and yeasty. My only gripe are the sides, which is why this place gets docked a star. I knew it's a fast food chicken restaurant but the staples like Mashed Potatoes and Okra are typical. I mean, they aren't bad, but they certainly can improve in this area, big time. I mean, expertly prepared instant potatoes are still instant potatoes, even with that good gravy smothered on them. One parting thing- the service is excellent. Food is fast and brought out hot. Staffers actually looked friendly and were smiling. Restaurant was clean. Fried Chicken restaurants may be going the way of Beepers and Chiptunes, but Bush's makes a strong case that maybe, just maybe, your family should embrace their inner ugly American for dinner tonight. read more

I used to live in a small town called Brownwood, Texas and all they had was "Chicken Express" which is basically the same thing for those who have tried chicken express in the past. You won't regret going here if you are a chicken tender lover. Best chicken tenders In town! They were never in Austin Texas only in surrounding areas like round rock but they are finally here and in southwest Austin by my house! Best combination to get is chicken tender meal with fried okra and make sure you ask for SPICY SERENDIPITY SALT! Food has always been great but if you go through the drive through make sure you check your items before leaving, especially if you ask for extra rolls or an extra side because this is now the 2nd time I haven't gotten my full order and have now wasted (more like they have stolen) about 7$ from me. I went here for the first time on Saturday, and because I didn't know if I really liked it, I went again on Sunday. Holy fried chicken, Batman. This place is good. I'm a chicken tender snob, so I got the 4 tender combo with fries, a roll, and an enormous sweet tea (because I do love my sweet tea). Couldn't finish the tenders, so I gave a couple to the BF. He was so impressed, we went again for lunch the next day, and he tried their fried chicken. So good and juicy. Bush's managed to find the right batter-to-chicken ratio, which is very, very important. The service was great both times I went, the drive thru provided great, fast service, and did I mention the sweet tea?? Mmmmm this place has delicious and BIG pieces of fried chicken. Pay the extra 65 cents or whatever and make them all breast pieces. The okra is good and worth it. Best damn chicken place round these parts. Always fast, always fresh, always delicious. My only complaint is that sometimes it's a mess in there... but I can not hold it against them, I see them get rushed several times a day by customers and they are always doing tjire best to keep their restaurant clean, but the crowds can be hard to keep up with. The crowds I see on there sometimes make that place feel really small. I love the fact that they actively higher local high school students and support local high schools. It's awesome to see a business with that kind of love and respect for the local community. Love their biscuits and roles... and love love them tenders. read more

Y'all should give the kida menus for the customers whose vehicle's are too far to see the signage on the flat wall. Also specify that you carry white gravy and not BROWN gravy. The food is good but the drive thru seriously needs some work and have the manager come up with a real drive thru model. Horrible service! The Cashier was rude and forgot most of my order! Very unclean, a cockroach fell from a vent and landed on my table at one point and the workers handled food with their bare hands. Waited in line 10-15 minutes around 9pm. Girl bypassed me twice to other cars that were there after me. She filled those orders and then took mine. She same back and said it would be 15 minutes for the thighs I ordered and asked if some other pieces were OK. I said if breasts were OK and she said yes. She brought out a thigh and two breasts but charged me for a "white meat" order and the chicken was not even hot or fresh. At $7 + for just three pieces of fast food chicken and a roll it should be good and this wasn't. I should have gone to Popeyes for the two piece $1.49 deal instead! And I will next time. I had only gone to Bush's Chicken once before in Waco and I immediately fell in love with the option to have fried gizzards and livers with my fried chicken. I know that some Church's and Popeye's have it in the back upon request, but it is never guaranteed. When we first pulled into the parking lot, I saw the sign that they have Happy Hour everyday. Although it is only available for the Chicken Tender Rolls and drinks, it's still an added special. I went into this clean and quiet location and ordered my gizzards to-go. I really like the batter and how light it is here. I am not a fan of the thick and "crunchy" batters that most fried chicken joints have because it is way too greasy. What I was not impressed with was the sides. All of them. Everything tasted like they had come from a can or was previously frozen. The green beans tasted like generic sodium soaked can beans, the fries were limp and soggy, the buns were nothing special, and the gravy was decent but not outstanding. Makes me wonder if they make anything in-house besides the chicken. Therefore, next time, I will only drive all the way out there to get chicken only, and not anything else that I can go buy from the store. read more

Delicious every time! The chicken is always hot & fresh - even warms up well the next day. They tend to forget the condiments in the drive-thru but when they do, they give you a ton (which works out well...) Chicken strips are bland but I learned my lesson the 1st time. I seriously don't know where all these great reviews are coming from. Maybe from people who have never eaten truly good food, ever? Our experience at Bush's was nothing like what these reviews claim. My husband and I decided to try Bush's Chicken for the first time based on reviews online. BIG MISTAKE. Awesome food? NOT. Unless you actually like (or require) bland, boring, colorless, tasteless food - if so, this is the place for you. Our first clue should have been the shakers of Bush's Seasoned Salt on every table. The chicken fingers were tasteless. The breading was barely crisped, white-ish in color, and again, dull with no seasoning to speak of. The crinkle cut fries were limp and blah. What we assume was supposed to be a cream gravy of some sort was, again, completely tasteless. My husband refuses to even call it gravy, he calls it "the white." The only good thing in the entire meal was the biscuit. We will NEVER go back. read more

After trying this place I am totally forgetting getting fried chicken anywhere else! The prices are very fair and they serve very high quality food compared to other chain fast food establishments. The service is fantastic; meaning the employees/carhops are very friendly and actually seem to like working there (even in the rain.) Saw a new restaurant while driving down Brodie lane " Bushs Chicken". The next day i stopped for lunch. Pulled into the drive thru and there was no speaker. A nice lady ran out to my car. Took my order and brought it back out to me. I was amazed at the great service. The fried chicken was very Good. But the Chicken Tenders are even better. Fried Okra and Krinkle Cut fries are the best sides. Mashed potatoes are average. Cream Gravy goes great with the tenders. Oh! Fresh baked yeast rolls. Enough Said!!! I moved here from California yesterday, and had heard about how great Bush's chicken was. Today, after an exhausting day, I decided to drop in for a late dinner. I arrived at 9:40, knowing they didn't close until 10. I was treated like I had a disease and was totally unwelcome. Any question about the menu was followed with a roll of the eyes from the cashier. After hastily getting my food, an employee tried to clean my table AS I WAS EATING. Wow. Should of stuck to what I know is a friendly, great-tasting place... KFC. Love the chicken, love the gravy, all the food is great....however twice I have gotten home, to east Austin with an incomplete order. Twice though AM Travis has made it right replacing the order next visit. However this time Lupe was the manager, said she was the gm. Said he wrote something down different, I ask if I could pay the difference...nope. ask for a corp number ...nope. so I tell her I will pay for this whole order and call Travis back next day. She brings oder out very rude. Tells me it's all free I told her no I wanted to pay and she wouldn't let me. Basically made me feel like I shouldn't come back. If they mess up oder and they offer to replace it then live up t o your word.
