And while we're on the subject of supporting real food and real restaurants, let me just tell you…read moreabout this place. It's so beautiful and out the way and unassuming...so if it's your first visit and you did no research and maybe just happened upon this place, you're not gonna know what to expect. I visited this place for the first time and that is what I felt, all with the exception of knowing what to expect to a degree because I did read reviews. All of them were fantastic so I was excited to stop by. It's down a long stretch of road and at the end of it is the most beautiful scenery. It really ties together with the seafood dining experience that you are undoubtedly here to have. I mean the views were just spectacular. And we arrived right around golden hour, which made it even more unbelievably beautiful. When we go to places that we've never been , to give ourselves a true experience, we order apps, entrées, and sometimes desert. So for our apps we got crab dip, and crab egg rolls-those were great. The crab egg rolls weren't overcomplicated with any other ingredients. It was crab and wonton wrapper-that's it-and it was fried to perfection. They are also cut open for you and visually to see all that crab in the egg roll, you excited. They are served with a dipping sauce and that was also great. The crab dip (which I got all to myself because my husband isn't a big dip guy) was phenomenal. I put it on everything and took leftovers home. For our mains, my husband got the mariner platter. I got the salmon. Everything was cooked too perfection. I don't venture too much on getting anyone's mac & cheese at any restaurant. however because so many people raved about it, I got the mac & cheese here as one of my sides and it did not disappoint. My other side was onion rings and I love a good onion ring but not everyone knows how to fry them correctly. A goid indication of a good onion ring is that when you bite into it, that the entire onion doesn't detach from the crispy coating and theirs did not. It was fried perfectly and I know true onion ring lovers are going to appreciate that little tidbit of information. And just to add while I was at home with my leftovers, I added the crab dip in with the mac & cheese that I also had left and that was chef's kiss-so maybe a crab mac & cheese should be in their future. My husband also got the cream of crab soup and I had a spoonful of that as well, and it was so creamy and so flavorful and filled with lump crab meat. I got a cocktail from the bar my husband had water and I believe tea...and those were great. There was not one miss in execution or flavor for any of the things that we ordered. We are very much looking forward to our next visit and we both agreed that this is going to become a regular in our rotation. They have a gem here, and in most cases I feel like the more people that know the better, but at the same time I just wanna keep this all to myself...but at the same time everyone deserves to enjoy all that they have to offer and I wish that type of good energy for the customers and staff alike. GOOOOO!

It was 4 PM when we arrived, wasn't very busy, so we decided to sit outside on the deck rather than inside. Each table has its own umbrella, which was nice because it did drizzle a little while we were eating. Our waitress was very nice and greeted us shortly after we sat down. She took our drink order. My wife had an iced tea, and I ordered the Upside Down Mule, a refreshing mix of Tito's, pineapple purée, and ginger beer. The drink was okay, but even though it was described as having pineapple purée, I really couldn't taste any pineapple. The funny thing was when I went to pick up the mug by the handle, the handle came right off! I mentioned it to our waitress, and she offered to get me a new cup, but I was fine using the cup without the handle. For dinner, my wife ordered the 1/2-pound shrimp, Baltimore style--onions, potatoes, Old Bay and butter, with an extra $3 charge. I ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake for $44, described as a fresh, no-filler jumbo lump crab cake. It came with fried Brussels sprouts and an additional side, which I chose as the Sweet Corn Summer Salad--charred sweet corn, confit tomato, fried black beans, roasted red pepper and cilantro over romaine lettuce, cotija cheese, creamy lime dressing and fried tortilla strips. I noticed that my salad had green peppers instead of red peppers. Since I cannot eat green peppers, I asked our waitress about it. She told me that was how it comes. However, the menu specifically says roasted red pepper, not green pepper. This is something the restaurant really needs to correct, either on the menu or with the kitchen, so someone doesn't order the dish expecting red peppers and end up with something they cannot eat. I caught it dyer my first bite eating. Then came another issue. My wife's dinner came out, but my meal wasn't ready. She waited for me, and I finally told her to go ahead and eat before her food got cold. About 10 minutes later, my meal finally came out. I don't understand why both meals didn't come out together. We weren't ordering crabs or something that would obviously come out when ready. We were ordering two regular dinner entrées, and the restaurant wasn't busy. Ten minutes is a long time between two meals, especially when one person is sitting there waiting while the other is eating. When my meal finally arrived, everything looked good, but I was disappointed with the size of the crab cake. For $44, and being listed as a dinner entrée rather than a sandwich, I expected a much larger crab cake. What makes this even more disappointing is that a picture of the dinner on their website shows two crab cakes, while the crab cake sandwiches pictured on the website were actually larger than the single crab cake I received with my dinner. I understand pictures can sometimes be for presentation purposes, but there was a pretty big difference between what I saw online and what was actually served. More importantly, the crab cake needed to be cooked a little longer. It should have had more browning on the outside not just shack some old bay on it, and the food needed to be hot. The crab cake was only warm, and even the Brussels sprouts were just lukewarm. The food itself had good flavor, but there were several things that need some cleaning up. $44 is a lot for a 4-ounce crab cake, especially when it isn't served hot and the Brussels sprouts are lukewarm. Overall, the meal was ok, but we expected more for the prices, we eat out a lot and don't mind paying for good food! The service was friendly, but the timing of the meals, the temperature of the food, the size of the crab cake, and the issue with the peppers are things the restaurant should address. And then charge 3% for a credit card fee and not even tell us. Would have been 4-5 stars without issues.

We ordered a dozen crabs, a pound of jumbo shrimp, a bowl of cream of crab soup, an order of hush puppies and an order of fried pickles. The soup had plenty of lumps of crab meat and a nice flavor, and the portion was ample. The crabs were described as jumbo but were closer to large. At $115 for the crabs, a dozen was enough. (Side note: when the market price is that high you really should disclose it on a specials sheet or chalkboard or something. The first mention of it was on the final bill.) The crabs were steamed well and did not taste muddy at all. The shrimp likewise was perfectly cooked. The pickles and puppies were delicious. Total bill before tip came to $200. On the high side versus expectations but not alarming. Service was worse than spotty. At times it was clear that the server had tables in multiple areas of the restaurant and needed roller skates to keep up. And there were times that she was sitting talking to other employees or with her regulars. Several things we had to ask for multiple times (melted butter for crab, drink refills, a few crackers) some of which we finally gave up on ever getting and went to the bar to request. Things like silverware had to be requested. Getting the bill took longer than necessary. All in all, service was 2 to 3 stars. Setting: Worn chairs and tables. Many televisions, all set to Maryland Lottery channels for fake horse races and keno that ran nonstop. Large lottery machine near the bar that did a steady business. This was distracting and not conducive to pleasant dining. Overall the food made the trip worth it. Will go back but not for the atmosphere or the service.

I had a nice seafood platter with haddock, oysters, scallops, shrimp and a crab cake. The hush puppies are the best I've had since Chesapeake Seafood House. We did try to catch them ourselves, but they weren't biting! LOL. Instead of going out to eat at a restaurant, I suggested we do a takeout order to be able to take our time and fully enjoy at home. Years ago, we had the crabs at a restaurant and it took me HOURS to pick them! I think my brother-in-law felt bad (and the rest of the family was getting impatient) and started picking the last few for me, because it was taking soooooo long! He suggested we go to Crab Knockers, a local seafood shop that sells fresh seafood, but that also cooks it for you! Inside, they have old arcade games with a fishing themed decor. They have a case full of seafood with a combo of locally sourced and brought in from other places. The shop was quite busy with a steady flow of patrons. We got 2 dozen blue crabs, steamed with J.O. seasoning (medium spice) and it came out to roughly $60! It took about 20-25 minutes or so. When we got home, we got right to work. My brother-in-law showed me the proper way Marylanders (is that the proper term?) and I think I got the hang of it by the 3rd crab hahaha. Even my oldest managed well! Crabs were delicious! Some claws were a little overcooked, but that's just the nature of seafood and takeout. The body meat was perfect! There is a lot of work for these little guys, but it fed me and my oldest as our only dinner and a few other family members who ate one or two. We even had enough crab meat for two crab cakes for breakfast the next day! I highly suggest checking them out. It's less expensive and less work in terms of cooking (and mess)! I'll definitely ask for crabs again next time we visit! Enjoy and go out and support!

There's several seafood markets in St. Mary's county and I'll be putting Crabknockers on the top of my list whenever I need a crab/seafood fix in the future. I will definitely be spending my hard earned cash here in the future. Highly recommended! Check them out, you won't be disappointed. Oh, they sell snakehead fillets, too! YEAH!
