So if you like the Smokiness of a dive bar, going home smelling like an ashtray, and hanging with older cool people is your thing than you're home here. I think there's better choices within walking distance. It would be nice if the owner didn't respond with a snarky comment and maybe took constructive criticism, fix your exhaust system and I would happily give you a 4 rating for an authentic dive bar. As you can tell by the owners response they don't care and not going to change. Staff are friendly, and at least the one bartender isn't asleep behind the bar (maybe they switched him out or I came on a day he wasn't there). I'll give it a 2 star rating because it looks like they're cleaning up and painting a bit, but it really should be a one. So, I bookmarked it in my Reno/ Tahoe travel folder. I told hubby about it being a local bar (YESSS!! ) and they sell merch! Double whammy. Our visit finally came July 2nd after some much running around to Virginia City, and other spots. It was time for a wind down spirit. I asked Kristen if she knew what a Mexican Candy shot was. She didn't. And in true bartender mode- she was kind enough to look up the cocktail ingredients online and Voila!! Everything needed was available! Since this is an order at the bar type of place, from what I noticed- the patron sitting next to me at the bar, while I was standing watching Kristen get excited to try something new... was intrigued! I mean, I'll always have a second option (Paloma) as my other go to... But, when Kristen had all the fixins- I ordered the fellow patron his own Mexican Candy shot. Kristen did NOT disappoint the first time around! Measurements were spot on! Tasted so good- I went for a double on the second one! Hubby ordered a hoodie from their merchandise and some stickers.
