Years ago, I had nothing about experiences here... Decided to not go here... Actually stopped going here for about four years. Decided to give it a chance again couple years back ... A lot of people are still stuck on incidences in the past. However I gave it another chance... I would recommend this bar to anybody visiting or someone wanting a cool place to go that is 24 hours. Unless you're a regular and hang with the, shall we say, "Axis leaning sort," you will receive poor service, if you are served at all. The ambience is unwelcoming at best and leans toward scary and dangerous, unless, like I said, you hang with the "right" crowd. read more

Fun little Irish Pub. I stopped in for a Jameson and beer. It was cold and snowy outside, so it felt good to get inside; it was cozy and a dive in a good way. The bartender was amiable; it was a quiet night, so she seemed to enjoy having someone new to chat with casually. I would have liked to stay for another round, but I had to wrap it up. This used to be a favorite spot of mine about 20 years ago, when my friends and I would just hang out in a booth and talk all night, while listening to Johnny cash on the jukebox. Much different crowd in there nowadays and not a fan of the loud, off color political discussions and the atmosphere had none of that liveliness it used to. Shea's is a true Reno dive bar. Full bar with a limited about of tables. All of the bartenders are great and always quick, even on busy weekend nights. Often does live music or just a great place to have a drink and play pool. read more

This place is amazing. The crowd is vibrant. The bartenders (Liam, Daniel, Juniper, and Aubrey) are friendly, trusting, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The sound system in the bar is dynamic, and at any time, this place can turn into a dance club. It's very safe and extremely lgbt friendly. The ventilation is excellent. My previous review was flagged because it wasn't clear I had a "firsthand experience" I have patronized this tavern two dozen times over the last decade as I've had many friends who have struggled with addiction, and this place is popular among that crowd. I personally have been solicited to buy cocaine while using the bathroom and seen those friends struggling with addiction purchase and consume cocaine in the very same bathroom. And it's not one time that I've been solicited, it's like 80% of the times I've used the bathroom. It's like they have a cocaine concierge back there. Additionally, a personal experience that I would like to describe about this bar is that it is very very smoky. Secondly, my firsthand experience is that the service can be a very slow and cliquey if you're not friends with staff. While visiting this bar, I have witnessed and been party to bartenders slowing down service to "outsiders" in favor of regulars regardless of how busy it may or may be. Came in to this bar for a casual after shift drink and decided to stay for more because the bartender Daniel was so positive and brightened my day. Towards the end of my night a man became aggressive towards people in the bar and Daniel defused the situation and handled it in a very professional manner. 1st time at Shea's Tavern. Very dark no atmosphere. Very weak drinks. Ordered a Captain Morgan and Coke I got 1/2 an ounce of Captain Morgan and the rest was Coke served in a rocks glass. I also ordered a Margarita on the rocks and that was also served in a rocks glass. Bartender was not friendly at all. Definitely won't be back. It was a huge disappointment. Used to be my go to place while in Reno. I have even played here 2-3 times. Went in with a friend for a couple pre dinner cocktails. Asked if cigars were OK, was told absolutely not, which is totally fine! I get it. Got charged 15$ for a manhattan (it was good). ordered a quick beer and was told NO and forgotten. I went to Shea's on a Friday not expecting much than a regular dive in biker bar in Midtown. I'd never heard good or bad things. It caught my attention a few days earlier as I dined at Homegrown Gastropub. I'm not a huge hardcore rock listener but I didn't let the $5 cover fee stop me! There were 3 live local bands which played very well! I was there with a friend and we actually had a blast! The music is very very loud (to be expected) but everyone was super chill. The drink prices are average and the live music sets a mood PLUS there's outdoor seating. read more

Super polite staff, drinks were fairly priced, and the crowd was lively, what move can one ask for in a hang out spot. I highly recommend everyone check Shea's out, you won't be disappointed! The obvious: this is a "dive-bar" that is open 24-7. There are some video poker machines at the bar, and smoking is allowed (and therefore rather common). The drinks are cheap and the crowd is a generally diverse (age, gender, and whatever). In my experience, the bar staff is friendly and aiming to please, although this is not a place to try and stump your bartender, if you follow me. (If you don't like it, there are a few more upscale places in the immediate vicinity.) My five stars mean: it's really good at being what it is. read more

Hands down my favorite local bar. Low key, good prices and specials. Bartenders are friendly and often remember what you like if you tend to order the same drink as I do. They book really great shows supporting local, regional and national bands and it doesn't matter if you're one of the cool kids or not They welcome all to enjoy the shows. I just went last night to Shea's Emo Night. What a fun time. A DJ was playing music such as All American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, thirty seconds to Mars, paramore, panic! At the disco, AFI and more. Both bartenders, Mel and Lacey were hustling with the drinks while getting down with these tunes. It was 7 to get in, and to me, the best 7 I've spent. I knew almost every song and sang (horribly) to each. People think of Shea's as an Irish punk bar, yes...but I've been to now this and a reggae show there. And some bigger names in punk (swinging utters!!!) are coming in the future! This is my favorite bar in Reno! read more

I have mixed feelings overall but I cannot deny that Shea's handles the late night/ day drinking desires. It's definitely a pretty solid hole in the wall with a decent selection. It's not for everyone, it's a bit of a punk rock bar favoring the Irish spirits but it doesn't neglect the rest of the smorgasbord. I'm a pretty firm believer that any bar that carried a countdown to St. Paddy's Day is a fun place to hang. They have roughly 40 types of assorted bottled beers/ciders. A few beers on tap and a plethora of spirits. They have pool and live music which is always a plus but again they favor more of a punky vibe. However they will throw down awesome reggae, alternative, old school rock band in addition to other genres on a reasonable basis. They are pretty well advertised on social media if you subscribe so if you're interested in what's coming up then check them out. It's not my cup of tea but I end up here circumstantially in lieu of grinds that like to hang here. But definitely a solid late night spot if nothing else! read more
