My job recently sent me through Sun Valley many times a day. I saw the building, noticed the 2-story parking garage and the large, well-lit parking lot, and always something interesting on the marquee. So, on a bright Saturday morning that allowed me a day to enjoy sleeping in, I decided I was gonna finally get up to Hobey's for breakfast. I was impressed with the layout of the casino floor; a short straight walk to the Cafe entrance. A warm, inviting acknowledgment at the podium, and I'm seated right away. Within a few minutes, a super-friendly waitress is at my table pointing out their new menu... and the Breakfast Specials. I chose the Bacon Breakfast Sandwich and a Side Order of B&G's; I plan to have leftovers. I made a wise decision. The gravy is your typical cafe-style, white and creamy, but I swear I could taste a little extra Chef Love. A secret ingredient, maybe. My coffee cup was NEVER empty, and I didn't feel rushed to finish my meal. It was a morning well spent.

" and that " the kitchen, never put them in" I found this a bit strange that he took it upon himself to cancel them because what if we still wanted them. Before this incident, our waiter had been missing and we wanted a refresh on our drink. We called over a different waiter and asked him to refill our drinks. We don't know if he was OK because he proceeded to add water to my sprite after we told him plenty times it was not water. When filling up my family's water cups, he spilled water all over my meal. The food was OK nothing special. The place was big and it had open spacious seating, but the service was something laughable. After going thru a room swap we were given another room. Fine but there was a dirty rag left in the bathroom counter with hairs all over it. Not a huge deal but still, come on right? 4. The late check out. Went to the front desk night before to make sure late check out was ok since we were at an event that morning. No problem they said you got until 4 with an additional fee. Great right? Nope since our room was a room that was attached to a suite they needed us out before that. Just come on again! 5. The service is just rude everywhere. I mean everyone you encounter! The Rim restaurant guy host in a suit..., I'm convinced was high as a kite. Don't believe me, go there and talk to him, holy! The security desk, rude and unhelpful. Anyone you call on the phone from the room, rude. I'm not expecting Disney customer service, but come on man! Someone teach these guys some customer service skills. So the good.... The resort is really cool. Bowling video games, nice casino, everything to spend a fun weekend. We may even come back just to do the pool and stuff to do there. To wrap it up... Lower your expectations. Your not going to get the cleanest room. Most certainly you will be treated rudely. It's a place that could be so epic but falls short due to just taking short cuts in the customer service, organization and just plain care about your whole experience factor. P.S. you will receive at least 5 text messages telling you about how great their spa is.

Here's an update…read more Grand Sierra Resort - Frustrating Stay Despite Being a Loyal Guest / 5 I have been coming to the Grand Sierra Resort annually for years -- once for my grandson's basketball tournament at the convention center, and again each July for a golf tournament. I consider myself a loyal, returning guest, which made this past weekend's experience all the more disappointing. When I checked in, the receptionist was genuinely kind and helpful -- a real bright spot. She offered me a room upgrade for $45 more per night and assured me she could place me on the same floor as my son, just down the hallway. I was excited. However, she then said she needed her manager's approval. The manager came over, barely acknowledged me, and flatly said no -- apparently reserving those rooms for other purposes. The receptionist apologized, but the damage was done. For a guest who returns here every year, that interaction felt dismissive and discouraging. The receptionist herself was wonderful, but the manager's handling of the situation left me feeling like my loyalty meant nothing. Later that evening around 8:30 PM, we headed back up to our room on the seventh floor and discovered that only one of the three elevators was operational. What followed was a 20-minute wait just to get on an elevator, packed in with other frustrated guests -- on a Saturday night, no less. Beyond the inconvenience, I couldn't help but think about what could happen in an emergency with two elevators out of service. That is a serious safety concern that management needs to address immediately. Outside of these issues, the rest of the stay was business as usual and accommodating. But given my history with this property, I expect better -- and loyal guests deserve better. I hope the Grand Sierra takes this feedback seriously before my next visit.

After nearly 10 months of planning, I expected the basics to be handled correctly. When we checked in, we were given a double room instead of the King room we reserved. I went back to the front desk and was told that because they were oversold for Thursday night, there was no way to move us into a King room at all during our stay. That explanation didn't make much sense--they confirmed they had King rooms available Tuesday and Wednesday, but because of the Thursday overbooking, they couldn't honor the reservation for any of the nights. So even though I booked months in advance and had already arrived, I was effectively bumped in favor of guests who hadn't even checked in yet. To make matters worse, only 2 out of 5 elevators were working the entire stay, which led to long waits (up to 20 minutes to get down in the morning) and added frustration. After the fact, I looked through other reviews and saw that this seems to be an ongoing issue, not a one-off situation. Between the reservation not being honored and the operational problems, it was a pretty disappointing experience overall. Skip this place.

I understand mistakes can happen, but seeing the same issue happen multiple times in one day shows a serious lack of organization and professionalism. Connie was working the corner bar in the back--fast, efficient, and on point even when things picked up. We usually try to grab a seat at the poker bar, but when Duc is working, it's nearly impossible to find an opening--and for good reason. We met Duc several years ago just passing through the area, and ever since then, we make it a point to stop in when we can. He has the best attitude, comes up with creative drink ideas, and makes every visit feel like you're catching up with a longtime friend. He's welcoming, engaging, and consistently delivers top-tier service. Highly recommend Western Village not just for the gaming, but also for the solid food options and the consistently great service--especially from Connie and Duc.

I understand if policy has changed or whatever, but after speaking to a manager they felt it's better to throw away the drink, instead of explaining to me what was going on. Just upset, as we come here to play, eat wings and drink, always have, but never will again. It should NOT be this hard to get a drink at a casino.
