$1 Coffee! There, I said it. Yup, it's true... cheapest cup o' Joe in town, and it's good!…read more Another new-to-me find that I'm happy I found. My job recently sent me through Sun Valley many times a day. I saw the building, noticed the 2-story parking garage and the large, well-lit parking lot, and always something interesting on the marquee. So, on a bright Saturday morning that allowed me a day to enjoy sleeping in, I decided I was gonna finally get up to Hobey's for breakfast. I was impressed with the layout of the casino floor; a short straight walk to the Cafe entrance. A warm, inviting acknowledgment at the podium, and I'm seated right away. Within a few minutes, a super-friendly waitress is at my table pointing out their new menu... and the Breakfast Specials. I chose the Bacon Breakfast Sandwich and a Side Order of B&G's; I plan to have leftovers. I made a wise decision. The gravy is your typical cafe-style, white and creamy, but I swear I could taste a little extra Chef Love. A secret ingredient, maybe. My coffee cup was NEVER empty, and I didn't feel rushed to finish my meal. It was a morning well spent.

NEW OWNERS STRIKE AGAIN…read more Why would someone spend millions to by an established local treasure that's been serving us perfectly for 35 years & destroy it ?? Start by walking in the doors and immediately have to maneuver through a maze/glut of slots to get anywhere. They removed the smoke cleansing machines & now it smells & looks like an opium den. The foul odor of tobacco now permeates itself right into their dining room. They've moved every booth & table for reasons known only to the thoughtless management. They removed the seniors & youngsters items from the menu, cut the choices by at least by 50% & of course raised the prices. They even removed the recently remodeled bathroom's from the restaurant. Now you have to walk all the way back to the building's entrance to find one. Let's not dare mention the destruction of employee morale and removal of their employment benefits. Perhaps they should concentrate their growth to Las Vegas where people don't know any better or don't care. They have ruined a locally owned business with their corperate greed, lack of thoughtfulness or concern for what the local community, the ones keeping them in business, actually wants.. This is Sun Valley, Nevada not Beverly Hills, California

Pool is nice, needed a cleaning after the hella windy day blew debris in it nonstop. Life guards were attentive. Spa level had the kids arcade, bowling alley, shops and white rabbit theatre. So much to do. Housekeeping was very short staffed, our room wasn't able to be cleaned daily, needed to call for towels etc. Valet is busy as hell too. Takes 10-15 minutes to drop your car and 20-30 to get it back.

To their credit, they arranged accommodations at another hotel, although it was not comparable to the one we had reserved. Wanting to give them another opportunity, we booked another stay this year. Unfortunately, the experience was even more disappointing. Our check-in was delayed until 5:00 p.m. because the room was not ready, despite the advertised 4:00 p.m. check-in time. Once we entered the room, we discovered the air conditioning was not functioning properly and the desk lamp was broken. We called for assistance at approximately 5:30 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. after no one responded. Someone finally arrived around 11:00 p.m., after we had already gone to bed. The lamp was replaced, but the air conditioning was never addressed during that visit. The following morning, we discovered the bathroom floor was soaked due to a leaking toilet. Maintenance confirmed the issue, placed towels on the floor, and returned later to repair it. During that visit, they were also able to fix the air conditioning. Later that morning, we found that one of the mugs in our room had not been properly cleaned. While this would normally be a minor issue, it became part of a pattern of poor housekeeping and maintenance. When we returned to our room that evening, we found another leak--this time water was coming from the ceiling. To make matters worse, my friend discovered blood stains on her comforter that had been concealed beneath the sheet. When we reported these issues to the front desk, there appeared to be no record of our previous maintenance requests or completed service calls, which was extremely concerning. A manager later offered us a $100 dining credit. While I appreciate the acknowledgment, I do not believe it adequately reflected the extent of the problems we encountered throughout our stay. Grand Sierra positions itself as one of Reno's premier hotels, and with that reputation comes an expectation of quality, cleanliness, and responsive service. Unfortunately, our experience fell well below those expectations. I hope management takes these concerns seriously because guests should not experience repeated maintenance failures, cleanliness issues, and communication breakdowns during what is supposed to be a relaxing stay.

In the morning, we waited over 30 minutes while valet staff searched for another guest's lost key. Later that same evening, we ended up experiencing the exact same thing ourselves. The valet staff lost our key and it took over 20 minutes for them to locate it. They did not think to hire more staff for the busy Memorial Day weekend and the basketball/volleyball/adult softball tournaments that were going on in the area. The night before we had to leave our car halfway in the street because valet was so backed up. The guest service manager told us to leave it half away in the street. The next day the same manager blamed the desk agent for losing our key when they did the same thing in the morning when she wasn't there. Unfortunately, this caused us to be late to a magic show we were attending at Grand Sierra Resort. I understand mistakes can happen, but seeing the same issue happen multiple times in one day shows a serious lack of organization and professionalism. Valet should make the experience smoother, not create unnecessary stress and delays.

We arrived around 11:30pm and there was a sweet girl who easily helped us check in, and marked up a map to give us precise directions to our room. The room itself was clean and very comfortable. The shower had amazing pressure and was spacious. The bathroom came with body wash, body lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. The AC worked well but was a little loud as it periodically turned off. We grabbed a very quick breakfast the next morning at their 24/7 diner, and it was actually so beautiful inside?! I was very impressed with the decor! Even at 8am, every employee we encountered was attentive, kind, and made our experience enjoyable. My fiancé literally just got 3 scrambled eggs and coffee to tide him over so there isn't a ton to report on the meal, but he was happy! There were 4 mini water bottles waiting for us in the room, a keurig machine with pod options, an ice machine near the elevator, and a filtered water refill station! Also a vending machine for purchasing items. Only knocking off a star because.. well.. it's not a 5 star hotel haha. The AC was a little loud at night, and we were bummed there were no table games for a quick blackjack game as the website does say "The Western Village Casino is a winning environment where you can play the best in slots, table games, and more". However, I don't think I've ever found a better bang for your buck hotel in my life.

The first 2 girls didn't bother to tell me they were not coming because they didn't "Think" I was playing. I was, I'm at casino to play with 3 family members, after I lost a couple of times, we joined up and played together, pooling our money. All I wanted was a blue moon. One girl finally was nice enough to bring me my beer, I tipped, and she explained to me what was up. Don't feel it's right. Later I asked for an AMF drink, girl doesn't tell me anything, then comes back to tell me it's 12 bucks... I understand if policy has changed or whatever, but after speaking to a manager they felt it's better to throw away the drink, instead of explaining to me what was going on. Just upset, as we come here to play, eat wings and drink, always have, but never will again. It should NOT be this hard to get a drink at a casino.
