Our visit became a true blessing with fatty brisket, bbq turkey and ribs from Buster's. The brisket was soft, tender and moist with well balanced smoke. The turkey was cooked perfectly but could have had a bit more smoke, then it would be perfect. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. Probably okay if dining in, less so in a staff meeting lunch. Haven't ordered drinks. I don't much cotton to the vibe, so to speak; if you love Texas and everything about it, you will probably like it better. The counter people at this restaurant have never smiled at me that I could recall. I also wish they had more sides; unenchanted with the mac and cheese, and other options less feasible for the situation, I deal with the fries (they are always soggy). I eat it because when the boss buys you lunch, the boss gets to pick and smart staff members shut up and eat. Once you walk into the establishment you'll see a sign which will direct you to the saloon which is to your left in the back or the line to the bbq where you'll order Al La carte style. Don't forget Utensils & trays when you first get in line. Meat choices such a brisket, ribs which are pork or beef. We got end beef brisket & beef ribs. Enjoyed the beef brisket but wasn't a fan of the beef Ribs. We then moved towards the side options & you have your standard bbq sides such as bbq beans, Cole slaw & Mac and cheese to name a few. Was not impressed with the sides due to lack of flavor. Then after that you'll pick out drinks and check out. They serve ciders, wines and beer. They catered a Celebration of Life for us and the experience was superb. They were the only restaurant we could find that offered a complete catering experience. The basic service included an hour to set up on their own tables and three servers stayed for an hour & a half. We ordered 3 meats & 2 sides which came with bread, ice water, and our choice of two beverages, all the condiments you would expect, and they even brought the smoker, which made a huge impression on everyone. They were very polite and very helpful and even helped us wrap the leftovers and put them in our oven. The portions were generous and we had so many leftovers. The food was hot and fresh and they also provided all of the utensils for serving and dining. If I ever have an event like this again, I'm definitely going with Busters. Other caterers only offered to drop off the food which would've left us with quite a mess to deal with and with Busters we were left with nothing to do. read more

August 18th was a beautiful day and a day off where I did not want to cook. I was visiting a friend around the corner so we decided to order take out from Busters. It had been over a year, or it seems, since I had dropped by for dinner and as I walked in the familiar scent of smokey goodness filled the air. I ordered a pound of brisket, 1/2 a pound of mild sausage, a huge order of bbq beans, mashed potatoes and gravy to go. The service was excellent and they made sure to include utensils, bbq sauce, napkins and extras. Even going so far as to tape the bbq bean container shut in case it tipped during my drive, which it did. But no spills! I won't wait another year until I stop by again! Not the best nor the worst BBQ I've had. I ordered the ribs and brisket plate. It didn't suck. In my opinion it had a little too much smoke flavor. Just a bit too intense for me. Stopped in here during a recent trip through town. I'm always on the lookout for BBQ and new places to eat, so this one fit the bill on our travels. As a native Texan, if you put "Texas Style BBQ" on the door, I'm coming at ya'! From the outside the building looked to be a former "Texas Roadhouse" location, you could see the chain's pedigree on the surface. Getting in the parking lot was a bit tricky since we could not turn right across the highway. There was a bit of "go past the building, turn down a side road, down another side road and one final turn down yet another side road, all through a narrow residential area, to get back to the parking lot. A little tricky, but I made it happen. Just know that if you're coming north on 99, it's a challenge. Once inside, the place was a bit confusing for a first timer. It kind of reminded me of a "Dickey's", but on a larger scale. Counter service, grab a tray and go down the line. there's a couple large menu boards before you get to the counter, so I quickly made a plan for me and the wife. I went with the Pulled Pork dinner since it's an easy choice and something I know I like. This comes with two "sides" so I chose Mac-N-Cheese and Coleslaw, a couple dishes that give a good representation of a BBQ joint, right? I always say, you can judge a good BBQ joint on the coleslaw alone. For the wife, I ordered a Chicken Sandwich on a French Roll, playing it safe for her. She went with the Mashed Potatoes & gravy for her side. I also ordered some stuffed jalapenos. So let's start with the goods. The Pulled Pork was actually very good, it had a nice smoke flavor to it without being overbearing. It didn't "need" sauce to taste good either. I had grabbed some of their "spicy bbq sauce" to try as well, which in my opinion wasn't all that spicy. The stuffed jalapenos were also kind of mild. They seemed to be a pre-packaged frozen jalapeno that they just drop in the fryer. The Mac-N-cheese was okay, but not anything to write home about, as was the Coleslaw. I felt like the coleslaw could have used "something" to give it more pizzazz. Either some more vinegar for the zip, or some more pepper for a kick, but it was just kind of flat as is. The wife's chicken was also good, and I was happy they didn't sauce it ahead of time because she likes it with no sauce. So the BBQ things they do, they do well enough. The sides just kind of seemed like an afterthought. Everybody was very friendly and the place was clean. Had some pluses and some minuses. This is one of those places where I really wish Yelp would give us half stars, because honestly it's more of a 3.5 star rating, 3 feels a touch too low but I don't know if I was feeling like a 4. The mild and hot sauces were incredible, thin and a little vinegary (I'm from Alabama and that's how I like it, IYKYK), and spicy. The best I've found out here! The turkey, which tasted like processed meat, and the brisket, was so over cooked and dry, I mean dry, like sand! Brisket - good, but far from any quality BBQ in Portland. Baby Back Ribs - dry, lacking flavor. Jalapeños - nice and spicy. BBQ sauces - mix a few for an original taste; their selection is no better than the bottled store shelf variety. The vibe: maybe leave your, "I love Obama" shirt at home. Surfer looking cashier guy was upbeat and cool, but the person handling the food seemed like he wanted to hang himself. $26 for all that including a bottled soft drink. This is a middle-market suburbia favorite and apparently has a following (as does Cracker Barrel, Applebee's, and the like.) Why do I occasionally return?
