This was his first daycare experience, and Shusha took him in and treated him as her own. His language and social skills blossomed right away. He had always been a very picky eater, but he loved Ms Mariam's cooking, and was always trying new and unexpected foods for the first time. Shusha was so loving and even went out of her way to personally help feed him on the days he struggled. We have since moved, and our son is now five years old. We have since attended three other wonderful schools with our two boys, but none of them compare to Shusha's school. For a nervous mom sending her son to school for the first time, it felt as if we were sending him to a warm, loving relative's home to play for the day. We still see the amazing activities she plans on social media, and think fondly of our son's time there. We are so grateful to Shusha and her team to have had the perfect first school experience.

Previously we had a close family friend watching my son for a year, so it was a nerve wracking decision to put him in someone else's care for the first time, but Shusha and her caring staff made it so easy!!! The home is clean, they give them healthy home cooked meals, they have fun activities and events around the holidays and most of all they are attentive and caring. He was so loved there (that to this day Shusha texts me to see how her boy is doing :)) Most of all, my son came home everyday happy! They also have an option for preschool aged children!

The community of other families quickly became our bubble and our daughter made very special connections with the teachers there. She still asks to call them all the time! One of the reasons we sought out and love The Nurtury was for the play based approach. I believe deeply that young kids need to move their bodies and learn & process best through play, not behind a desk. The Nurtury lives this out so well, giving kids freedom and movement and teaching through play - yet they come away with so much age-appropriate knowledge about all the core preschool subjects but also the world around them, including different cultures and traditions. I love that they take into consideration what holidays each family practices so they can honor it in the classrooms, and the diverse heritage of the staff (another plus itself!) is celebrated as they share their own holidays and traditions with the kids - it's so important to have that exposure ingrained from so young. Both with learning and with behavioral challenges, the teachers and staff at The Nurtury find a way to give kids structure while adapting to the needs of each kid, and they truly take a partnership approach to workshopping concerns together. When our child was going through a challenging time they brought us in to have an open discussion of ways we could all rally around her and work together. That meant so much to me as it was such a human and compassionate approach, rather than punitive. The education and nurturing environment at The Nurtury set our child up for an extremely strong start in kindergarten. We moved out of state and are in a top-rated public school system where there is no shortage of testing - readiness assessments, MAPS, COGAT testing, etc. Our child has done well on these from day 1, getting a 100% readiness score early on in the year, scoring above average on recognizing upper & lowercase letters and counting. She's been more than ready academically, but also socially and emotionally, because of the environment and education she received at The Nurtury. We would have loved to have sent our second had we not moved!

The faculty goes above and beyond for their students. 110% doesn't come close to describing the effort they put in each day. We will miss you the amazing teachers and friends! Thank you for a great three years!

Ms. Irma, the owner, and Ms. Ala, her assistant, are incredible caretakers who truly love what they do. My son started with them right when he turned 12 months and they both guided us through a great process of adapting to their care. I wanted a place that was small and where my son could socialize and learn, after spending his first full year at home with us. We looked for daycares for months and all were either too big for our taste with 20+ kids and lots of teachers or the small ones felt too informal. This place is a great size with just up to 7 kids that start from ages 1 year until they are ready for school. They have a classroom where they learn, have activities, nap, and also an outside area where they play. Irma and Ala keep it very clean, no one can come into the space (you are greeted at the outside gate due to health protocols) they are mindful of hygiene and make sure everyone is healthy, which is important when you are dealing with kiddos. Communication is key, and Irma sends constant texts and keeps you informed as the day progresses with the cutest pictures of the kids in their activities that range from painting or playdough, or even cooking (safely, of course). I have seen my son flourish in their care and loved that they have different ages as my baby has learned so much from the older kids as well. Every day he comes home with a new word or skill and is so happy and full of energy (and clean!) Their approach is very loving and caring, my son loves to go and gets excited as we head out every morning saying his little friends' names. You can expect home-style breakfast & lunch as well as snacks, they keep a schedule so you know what to expect as far as food + naps but are open for pickup any time as long as you don't interrupt activities. The daycare is open from 8:00-5:30 pm. We've loved having them be part of our story and our family.

I wasn't offered a price structure or informed about waitlists or half days/full days or potty training requirements or pick up times or if lunch was included or class ratios until I asked. No information about parental communication apps. There were a lot of pockets of silence. When asked about what their daily schedule is like, I was told "We have it posted over there." The kids looked happy and the teachers seemed sweet. This place is super convenient for me and I would have 100% sent my son here if the tour was better. I just felt like I was intruding and the director was just waiting for me to leave so she could get on with her day. So awkward.

Even when we moved away for a couple of years, we made sure to come back for their summer camp whenever we were in town--it's truly that special. The kids love the fun weekly activities, and it's always such a great balance of structure and play. My daughter started here at age 3 with Ms. Theresa and Ms. Samantha, who were both incredibly patient, nurturing, and genuinely caring. I always felt at ease knowing she was in such good hands. Ms. Theresa has a wealth of experience and her parent conferences were always thoughtful and insightful about my child's growth. The program has just the right mix of play and learning, which really helped my daughter thrive. She also attended TK here before we moved, and although she's now in 1st grade, she still loves coming back to say hi to her former teachers--especially to give Ms. Susie a hug! That says so much about the strong bonds the staff form with the kids. Now that we're back, my 2-year-old son started during summer camp. He immediately connected with Ms. Gilda and Ms. Blanca, and now he looks forward to school every day. We've already seen him grow more social and verbal since joining. The teachers here are not only wonderful with the kids, but they also work so well together--you can tell they truly support each other and create a positive environment. The director is hands-on and collaborates closely with the parent club, which is another big plus. The parent club is welcoming, approachable, and really helps foster community through fun events and fundraisers that directly benefit the school and children. On top of everything else, the school is very reasonably priced compared to many other options in the area, and they even offer hot lunch for a small additional fee, which makes life so much easier for busy families. We're so grateful to be back. This school has been such a loving, supportive, and affordable place for both of our kids, and we couldn't recommend it more highly!

I toured probably over 20 preschools. My son started up this co-op when he was 2 1/2. It was right after things opened up post Covid. I had never heard of a cooperative preschool before. I was about to sign up at another much more expensive preschool when a friend told me about Sherman Oaks Co-Op and how wonderful this particular one was. I had toured so many other schools, but when I saw the level of care and love at the school, I decided to switch and enrolled immediately. I am forever indebted to that friend as this school has been like winning the childcare lottery. The fact that it was much less expensive was a nice bonus, but the level of care and the amazing environment the children have here is worth three times the tuition cost. I was little nervous about the parent involvement as I felt like it would be very time-consuming, but it has been just so rewarding. Parents help out at the school one day a week and getting to see your child thrive and grow has been just magic. I have also learned so much from the wonderful teachers, and become a better parent as a result. Teacher Tammy and Teacher Ana make a lasting impact in children's lives. Former students from years ago, still come back to the school when there are celebrations on and talk about what wonderful times they had there. The teachers are so incredibly patient and have given my children the best possible start. I've since had a daughter and brought her there also. Teacher Ana runs a toddler group at the school too, so it was a great way to introduce my daughter to the place before the time came for her to start at preschool. I follow a couple of child psychologists on Instagram and all of their top tips are things Teacher Tammy and Teacher Ana apply every moment of every day. Allowing the children to be creative, expressive, make their own decisions, find their own voice, experience and work through conflicts. The language they use is something to live by both as a parent and as a human being, moving through this world! It is such a healthy, amazing place that allows each child to blossom in their own individual way. And it's been a godsend for me as a parent to learn ways to remain calm and patient through tantrums or difficult moments without getting overwhelmed. I couldn't have imagined the support the school would have provided. I unreservedly recommend to any parent!

Before I give a glowing and deeply heartfelt review of the experience our family has had at…read moreMontessori House of Children with both of our boys, I want to share a broader thought, because context matters, especially when parents are making one of the most important decisions of their lives. I think it is fundamentally unfair when a school receives a one-star review based purely on a parent's expectation of what they think an accredited Montessori environment should be, particularly when that opinion comes from a misunderstanding, limited exposure, or without ever actually attending or engaging with the school. Montessori education is nuanced, intentional, and often misunderstood when viewed through a traditional lens. What troubles me most is how quickly some people run to leave damaging reviews without first asking questions, seeking clarity, or having a conversation with the school. Educators and administrators put their entire lives into the well-being of these children and the integrity of their program. Parents rely on real, lived experiences when deciding to place their children in someone else's care, and highly subjective or reactionary reviews do not serve that trust or decision-making process. I truly believe that if something feels off, the first step should be to pause, gather information, and talk with the school. If, after genuine effort and understanding, you still feel strongly, then by all means leave a review. But perspective matters. And if you take a moment to look at some of the most extreme one-star profiles, you will often notice a pattern. Volatility, absolutes, and very little middle ground. Life, and education, rarely works that way. Now onto what actually matters. Our older son graduated from Montessori House of Children and is now thriving in first grade. Our younger son is about to graduate this year. Over the years, we have watched both boys grow not just academically, but emotionally, socially, and independently. This school helped shape who they are as learners and as people. The teachers are patient, intentional, and deeply invested. The environment fosters confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and respect. These are core Montessori principles that are clearly lived, not just advertised. Our children felt safe, seen, challenged, and supported. We will always be grateful for the foundation Montessori House of Children gave our family. It is not just a school. It is a community that genuinely cares about children and their development. I recommend it without hesitation to parents seeking a thoughtful, authentic Montessori experience.

Montessori is so important and this school's approach is full of love, play, independence, nurture, art, music, dance, and strong education. My daughter's confidence, independence, learning, and social skills have soared because of this school. She has so many friends and I have made friends with the sweet community of parents. The layout of this school is so special. The outdoor area is massive and the classrooms have so many toys and books. Most of all, these teachers are the most compassionate women. They are expert teachers. My daughter LOVES her teacher. They have the most special relationship. All of the teachers are warm people that I feel very comfortable with. They transform these little balls of mush to independent big kids in the most loving way. I feel like I can call any time and when I have, any 5 of the teachers would magically know exactly what's going on with my child at that moment! In the beginning, when I needed updates on my daughter, this was the biggest comfort. They were so loving and kind during that difficult adjustment to school for the first time. I know as a teacher myself, this time of life is precious and goes by very fast. I want my daughter to have this time learning through play and toys, learning through friendships, learning through art and music, and learning outside before she starts kindergarten. Sorry, but as a teacher myself, I have observed TK. Not doing it. I want my child to have one more amazing year before public school. She will have 12 years of public school; Montessori is special. The school also creates the most precious memories with special events that I will cherish forever. Potty training was accomplished quickly and with so much encouragement. Parking is easy. If you are considering, sit down with Ms. Kumi. All of our neighbors sent their kids. We were told: You MUST send your child there. They were right. I am very thankful.
