Butch Cassidy's was in our regular rotation for years, but with all the newer restaurants and just life getting busier, it had been a while since we last ate here. We went on a Friday night and it was decently busy, but we didn't have to wait on a table. Our server greeted us promptly and the drinks came out quickly. The menu had changed since our last visit (maybe eight or so months ago?). We stuck to our usual order of hot wings, and it's still my opinion that the wings are some of the best in town. My husband and daughter both ordered burgers, and I tried the fish and shrimp combo. The burgers seemed over seasoned to me, but my husband enjoyed it. My daughter didn't like it and I think it was from the overwhelming "smoky" taste. I don't think the burgers are smoked but maybe they add liquid smoke? I don't remember it having that flavor in the past. I've always said that their shrimp po-boy rivaled those you can get on the causeway. On the platter I received, some shrimp were perfect but a few (half of the portion) were battered too heavily. I took batter off and ate the shrimp, which was fine. The fish (swai) was your typical fried, white fish. It was cooked fine, but just not my favorite choice of fish. Overall, the service was great and the food was mostly satisfying. It was also not badly priced. Our bill, after tax but before tip, was only around $50 and that included an appetizer. I noticed that they're serving brunch on Sundays, so I'll plan on checking that out soon. read more

Found this restaurant mentioned on a handful of restaurants as a must in Mobile. I was traveling through with kids and wanted to skip the usual chick fil a. Big, big mistake. Burnt, dry, inedible burgers. The weirdest fries I have ever seen. Huge potato wedges that had no flavor. The fried fish was good, hush puppies okay, slaw had lots of mayo, little flavor and gigantic pieces of cabbage which made it hard to eat. Seven meals ordered, seven orders or fries and three burgers went straight in the garbage. Everything tasted like it can straight out of the freezer. I had the "Now Famous Butch Burger" cooked medium rare, sans pickles. This is easily the best burger I've had since my arrival in Mobile four years ago. The burger was juicy and came with a complimentary side of potato wedges. The produce was crisp, fresh, and tasty. The burger was served on a giant poppyseed bun, which gave it an interesting texture. My wife had the Mushroom Swiss Burger, and loved every bite of it. She said it was just perfect. My step daughter Emily went with the BLT, and said it was fantastic! The staff was courteous, attentive, and exceptionally friendly. I will definitely revisit this place again!! read more

I guess it just takes time before you begin to discover the local "dives" that are hidden gems in Mobile. Hubby and I have passed Butch Cassidy's countless times on our way to get ice cream at Cammie's. I wondered why there were always so many cars parked in front of what I thought was just a bar. Well, today we overheard someone raving about the great burgers and decided to give it a try. First of all it does have a big long bar with ample staff to take care of your adult beverages! The dining area has booths and tables! We were lucky enough to snag a booth! Happy hour is from 4-7 Monday-Thursday with some great specials on beer! $2 Yuengling draft - wow! On to the food, I ordered the Babe Burger since I had a huge lunch and frankly was not too hungry. Hubby got the full size one. Our food came out in a timely manner, and it did not disappoint. My burger was cooked perfectly and the taste was incredible. It was juicy,and had that charred, yummy taste, like it was cooked on a pit outside. Hubby LOVED his burger. Both of us opted for the fries and they were great! The staff was courteous and thanked us for coming in. While getting my nails done, I overheard a woman talking about this restaurant. So...I decided to give it a try! We arrived about 7pm and it was bustling with activity with a very diverse clientele... mostly local area crowd that seemed to know how great this eatery was...but no one bothered to tell me....well except the woman at the nail salon indirectly. To my surprise, it was adjacent to Cammie's Ice Cream which was a big plus for me. So we ordered burgers and they were fantastic! I had the Wild Wild West burger which comes with the usual accoutrements, and the blend of mustard and mayonnaise on the top and bottom bun added to the juicy burger. The bun was Ah-mazing too! I think it was a sour dough bun...I ate it so fast I can't remember....So Good!! Well lucky for me I was able to take a photo for my fellow Yelpers to ogle. Super friendly and attentive staff; the place is often very busy but pleasant and tables are turned around quickly. My burgers have almost always been cooked perfectly to order and are juicy and delicious. Their fried fish dish is also very good--tender fish with a nice breading. The servers are great at anticipating your needs and are generous--they don't just bring the bare minimum, they will think of things you may have forgotten to ask for. Disappointing first visit. My wife and I each ordered a burger, mine was the Famous Butch Burger which is a bacon cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard and mayo. Our son got the steak sandwich on sourdough which he liked. We asked for medium well burgers, the waitress range it up as medium (found that out when we got the bill). Both burgers were more on the rare side. My wife's burger was so red that the patty bleed red on the bottom piece of bread.l turning it pink. When we flagged her down to redo our order, she didn't seem that surprised that they were undercooked. Maybe she thought we said medium but even so, for a famous burger joint the reaction was odd. She came back with our same burgers cooked more but after biting into them it seemed like they just popped them in the microwave and nuked them. Really soggy and messy. The spot that was pink in my wife's bun now brown, so seemed liked they were nuked. I got the onion rings which were good but there only like five rings. Wife liked the fries but the fries were cold when the order came back. Overall a MEH experience. I actually like the dive bar atmosphere. Waitress seemed very indifferent. Also, this place is known for their burgers. So you would think that if two burgers were sent back to the kitchen then the manager would come check and make sure the order was satisfactory. That did not happen. There is a Taco Mama across the street. Should have opted for that instead. read more

We did not use the coupon because we wanted other things. I had the patty melt. It was pretty divine, The rye bread was fresh and it was loaded with perfectly-sautéed onions. It was easy to convince me to upgrade to the Outlaw Rings from fries (we had to get a second order - it was a food fest). These are some truly great onion rings. I would come back just for that. He had the po' boy (shrimp) and he liked it OK. We split a grilled shrimp salad that was fresh and uncreative. We were water drinkers so I can't comment on bar places. The ambience, for me, doesn't work. I'm pretty sure I hit my quota for dive bars quite a few years' back. It had the not-so-clean feeling you expect from that environment. The wait staff was excellent. Efficient and friendly enough, but not enough to disrupt ongoing conversations. Food and service were for sure a 4. Location is great. The prices seemed to be in line. I came in with a friend one day and we had lunch and appetizers. I don't remember my entree, but I remember the appetizers well. They were crab stuffed jalapeno peppers with a creamy sauce and they were SO good! I made myself save a couple for my hubby and son to try and they loved them too. The next trip, I had the daily special. It was fried pork chops, black eyed peas and rice. The plate had rice in the center, surrounded by peas, with a fried pork chop on each end. The cornbread had its own plate, which was great because it was like dessert. It was a pretty presentation, but it's very hard for me not to be a messy eater and that wasn't helpful. I tried to clean my mess. I certainly cleaned my plate. The service was exceptional. They have free wifi, and it was pretty obvious that I was working because my laptop was in front of me. The bartender checked in on me and made sure I was content, but she didn't check in to the point that it got annoying and interrupted my work (which some tend to do). She was pleasant and sweet. I appreciated her being so courteous. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. This is one of my new favorite lunch spots. I'd highly recommend checking the place out! While on hold, I could hear someone moving the phone around and other conversations that were being held at the bar. I even heard a few customers who were there to pick up their to go orders. Definitely not the best. I love supporting the local businesses in our city, but even after the Groupon deal I used it is hard to believe that a majority of Mobile enjoys this food. When you look up from the table, all you can see the dust clogging the AC vents and layered throughout the decorations on the walls. Then when the server brings the nachos you've been waiting for, they are actually what you make when it's 1AM and you're desperate for munchies. It is literally bagged pre-shredded chedder cheese microwaved for 30 seconds on some now-hard tortilla chips. I decided to order a patty melt and it was just OK. I was excited to taste the chili because it is hard to get it wrong, but after tasting the nachos I wasn't so sure about anything anymore. When I tasted the chili, it was stone cold and I was ultimately disappointed. A good place to visit after work or Mardi Gras and is an institution of Mobile. It's basically a dive bar but it's got a great burger. I especially like the friend green tomatoes as an appetizer. Don't go in expecting fine dining or anything fancy. It's just a good old-fashioned sort of place.
