I recently visited The Velvet Pig and had a mixed experience. The food had really good flavor overall, but it came out warm instead of hot, which was a bit disappointing. For the price, I expected a little more in terms of quality and presentation, as it felt slightly overpriced. That said, the building itself is super cool it's set in an old ice house, which gives the place a unique and interesting vibe. The atmosphere alone makes it worth checking out at least once. This little restaurant is tucked inside Ice Box, the former ice factory turned bar. It's in the back. Great reviews online and great food!! My wife had the blackened chicken Caesar salad salad and I had the sandwich they called Chopped, which is chopped ground beef, some lettuce, mayo, and I had them put mustard on it instead of ketchup. It was excellent! We both very much enjoyed our meals. We would absolutely return. read more

I really enjoyed the food here. The menu has some interesting options and the egg rolls were very tasty. The staff was really friendly and helpful and the portion size was perfect. Before you go though, you should understand it's is inside another establishment. The Ice House is a local bar and the Velvet Pig is inside of that. Nothing wrong with that but it's more bar atmosphere than food atmosphere. It was very loud and seemed to cater to a young audience. Again, nothing wrong with that, just be aware. That being said, if that atmosphere is good for you, the food is worth the visit. read more

Super cool spot inside The Ice Box. Steady lunch business. Very pleasant, not loud! Counter service and they bring you your food. Very casual but friendly. The catfish is dusted with curry powder and served with a lemon herb tartar sauce that is out of this world. Who thought of that?! Perfection. Boudin eggrolls were tasty and the mustard served with them is bangin'. Everything is well seasoned. The pork and collard sandwich was just ok - something about the aioli and havarti made it a little "cream cheese spinach dip-y." Can't wait to go back! read more

Yelp! I knew I would love this food when I walked in and they had blasting, "Hate it, or love it", 50 Cent! Love that song. This place is eclectic with one side a bar, the middle a game room and the food ordering source tucked over in a corner. We are in Mobile and grabbing food before we return to the hotel. VP is clearly a "hangout" spot and Bae just don't hangout. So we grab the food and go. MAN THIS FOOD! If you can get past this ambiance, these are some of the best greens, cornbread, wings, and ribs I have tasted. This stuff here good. But, this cornbread, looks can be deceiving, this stuff here is their GOAT! I definitely wanna come back. read more

I came for lunch. They only had fried catfish for seafood. I ordered a Caesar salad with tomatoes and blackened chicken. They didn't have tomatoes, and the salad with tea was $25. And the chicken was barely cooked. I'm pretty disappointed after seeing such a good rating. read more

So...it was a Friday evening and I decided I wanted to take my bride out to get something to eat in the downtown area. I had been feeling ill for two days and was tired of being in the house and was feeling well enough get some fresh air. It was a nice evening with a clear sky and a cool breeze so I was looking for some place new to us but with an outside dining option. Quick search in Yelp and looked into my bride's beautiful blue eyes and asked "Are you my Velvet Pig?" to which I got an immediate"WTF" look and I displayed the Yelp suggestion . It was not much from the outside and as we entered a VERY large bouncer was at the door checking ID's and I'm immediately thinking "really...sweet,super chill spot ". (I'm 60 y/o ) Now as you enter you walk straight into a bar and you meander with no real purpose to a larger room with another bar, shuffle board, pool table and TV's but no real seating is available but against one wall and along the bar. There was no bartender and no real direction. We are thinking we are coming into a sit down type restaurant. We look outside and there was some picnic tables placed what seemed like cat litter when walking on it for seating. There was also a side porch with some tables and a ping pong table but a pretty tight area. It wasn't super crowded and I eventually figured out that you went to a window (half door to kitchen area) and place your order with a nice young lady whom brings your food to your seating area. You pay at the window. The pork belly is an absolute must try. I need to come back and try their smash burger. All in all, enjoyable. It was more a younger crowd type establishment but didn't feel awkward at all. We will come again. read more

Cute place great outdoor area we came early just when they were opening for lunch. The kitchen menu is insane. Everything was so good. I wanted to order everything but we definitely ordered at least half of the menu. Don't miss the chopped cheese or those meatballs if they have them again don't walk run and head to the velvet pig. read more

The best burger during Mobtown Burger week! Located inside the Ice Box - just a small order window by the bar, but you can tell how much heart they put into their food! We walked into the front door where there is a bar with lots of people watching football. Behind this bar is a large lounge/hangar area with a bar, pool table and comfy places to sit. This is the home for the small but mighty Velvet Pig. With drinks in hand from the front bar, we ordered our burger with a side of honey buffalo wings. Those wings - so tangy, sweet and juicy! The burger was perfect, with toasted bun, creamy key lime aioli and sweet/salty bacon jam. Every bite was perfection and out of the 4 burgers we managed to try this weekend, was by far the best. Another spot we would be regulars at if we lived in Mobile. Great beer selection also and their outside space is very chill. Such a unique and fun place! Next time around we will make this our first spot and come with a full appetite. read more

On the way from NoLa to Atlanta, we made a quick stop in Mobile and were looking for a good spot for lunch. This was the top restaurant on Yelp in Mobile so we checked it out. We got the smash burger and Alabama hot fried chicken sandwich as well as the Boudin egg rolls. My husband liked the fried chicken sandwich but didn't love it. I, on the other hand, loved the smash burger especially the bacon jam! The surprise was the boudin egg rolls!! Now, the space: it's so beautiful! It would be a good spot to just hang out and relax. Note: you order at the counter then you pick your seat. Velvet Pig is inside a bar so you might think you're at the wrong place when you go here for the first time. read more

I seriously re-downloaded yelp for the first time in YEARS to write this. Possibly the saltiest fried pickles I've ever had in my life! A real waste of $10, and while the skewers taste OK, you will be paying $15 PRE-tax for three skewers. THREE!! $5 a skewer?!! They're tiny things, MAYBE 2 bites each. A little rubbery in texture too. We started with the Blue Crab Rangoon dip served with fresh, crispy wonton chips and we were blown away with the flavors! I had the brisket sandwich which came with fries. My husband had the riblets which didn't come with anything so he ordered some fries because there was only like 6 riblets in the order. We had to wait several minutes to order as the lady taking orders was busy serving food to a table. We then waited about 25 more minutes for our food. While the food was very tasty you can't come here unless you have at least an hour for lunch. So, a sandwich, a tiny order of riblets, an order of fries & 2 drinks (no refills) and tip was $56.00. Loved what they have done with the building and the food was good but too slow for someone looking for a quick work day lunch and too pricey for the amount of food that you get. Stopped at Velvet Pig in Mobile, to support the restore Mobile cause, and sample the burger... but - The Pork Belly skewers were the best ever, so major kudos. The burger, before and during, is just the best. Great patty, bacon jam, havarti, lime/jalapeno aioli, (and asked for a few extra jalapenos.) Among the best burgers I've ever eaten - so good in fact, that I asked this "pig centric" restaurant to add this great beef burger to their menu permanently. Dang, but it's good. read more

This "restaurant" is 21 and up!! so if you're like us and found it driving through to the beach with your kids, just know you will be greeted with a very rude person expressing that to you like you are dumb. And it really sucks bc we took time to come out of our way to eat here to be turned away rudely. they didn't even try to ask if we'd like to order something to go. read more
