Needed to buy a variety of desserts and snacks to take to my uncle's dinner party, so stopped by this Jewel nearby. It's part of Albertson's, so my Vons app recognized that we were in the store, but still pushed me to download the Jewel app. It is Single sign on (i.e. it recognized my Vons username and password). It was needed since certain sale items needed a digital coupon to get the lower price. We didn't need to go to the Osco side (similar to a Walgreens or CVS), and spent most of our time shopping on the food side. The cashier was super friendly. We are new to Illinois and I have never in my life been treated how I was today. I'm Latina and I walked into the store (which I never had a problem at the other jewel Osco closer to Great Lakes) and took my girls to the counter to grab a family piece meal. They gave it to me in a brown paper bag with a tag on it. Which is how they've always done. Well Even before I get to the self check out the employee named Patsy starts looking into my bag and following my daughters and I. She proceeded to call someone over the phone saying I was walking around with a brown bag that I put the sticker on which isn't true at all. Even after I checked out she proceeded to follow me out to the exit and keep staring into my bag. If she had asked to see my receipt I would have gladly showed her. It's disgusting behavior like this exists still. I hope she gets another training in customer service. read more

Keep getting wrong orders and with rotten vegetables. Manager of store refused to even listen to my complain and instead send transfered me to shopper who pick my food. When talked to the person who picked my food, she was very proud to tell me that she "personally" have picked my food. Unfortunately food was rotten and I was missing merchandise. When I told her that I've ordered 1 lb of serrano pepper, not 1 pepper, the shopper 'Pam or Path" told me that "I should be okay with it", because she has "put more than one". True, she put two, and not two Lbs as I ordered, but two peppers, even though the order very clear says "lb". Both the manager and the picker are a shame to their job and to the store. Definitely not to be trusted with anymore. Check everything for their expired dates. Check and make sure sale price matches. Several times its been not showing up on registers. Never was an issue for them to adjust/fix with good attitude and apologies until halloween day incident- Fruit/vegs are not always fresh. Mealy apples during recent apple season (tried different varieties while other jewels had fresh apples no issues. Second big strike was during Halloween time my mother purchased two jars of prego sauce and was overcharged. Customer service lady refused to refund her when it was clearly from the 2 for $4 sale because it was garlic and mushrooms when label on shelf said garlic- why the frick stock the jar flavor there there but the kicker was there was no other "garlic" and all flavors was in the promo of that jar size anyhow. Looked online later it was included in the promotion. Infuriating but I didn't press the issue because I didnt buy it and did not have the receipt in question. She only offered raincheck. Ha ha that was a 107 dollar reciept and customer service lady wouldnt do it only "raincheck" for the exact same garlic flavor. Now tonight when Im about to swap out my pantry I notice the Green Giant French Cut green beans I just got from there from Wednesdays trip expires December of 2022 and its mid November... Infuriates me to no end when Im buying canned food and it expiring the following month. They have sold expired food multiple of times but didnt think to check stocked popular staple expiration date...now Im just not bothering to purchase staple stuff anymore. Waste of my time constantly checking expiration dates. Making trips to meijer to stock up now as they dont do us dirty like that (prices 99.99% matches shelves). 3 workers just stared at me while I went to self check out and didn't even tell me they were all closed for the night.. instead just laughed while I was confused..... the woman that works at night is beyond rude. Don't go to this grocery store if you look even slightly different that a white soccer mom in her 40's bc this Jewel Osco will literally have its employees stare at you in groups! I was literally followed around the store. As I checked out in the self-checkout I had 2-3 employees standing behind me HOVERING watching to make sure I wasn't stealing. Why the assumption, you must ask? Was I belligerent? Causing a scene? Nope, but I have pink hair. I guess that's enough in this establishment to assume that I'll steal. I guess I'll start in produce...as much as I love to cook, produce is what I judge my grocery stores on. Having a large selection and freshness puts a grocery store over the top. This Jewel always stays on top of it! Hey, if you carry fresh ginger, heirloom tomatoes, and a vast selection of peppers then you are mine! So I love Jewel Osco. It is my go to location for weird things. If my recipe calls for 2 ground up toenails from a dragon that drives holy water, I am heading to Jewel and they will have it! And oh, the produce section is blessed by the Gods! There is such a huge variety and good quality most of the time. The only slight complaint I have about Jewel is that despite major renovations to the outside, wonderful parking lots and an endless selection of food... the issue of the store always looks dated. The carts are always rusty and squeaky (but they have the cool car carts that kids love). But the employees are always kind and helpful. The general store is always clean. And the new MyMixx app is an easy way to clip coupons and save some cash. It isn't located close enough to my house to be my main grocery store but stays on my radar as a great place to shop. read more

If you ever have a problem or a question, don't go to the lady at customer service during the day shift. She is the rudest human being in the store! I am disabled and cannot walk far. This past Wednesday, December 1st, I couldn't find a motorized cart. I used a regular cart to walk to the customer service counter to ask if there was someone who would be able to look for one for me. She acted like I was bothering her. VERY rude. Has no business in customer service. I spent 35 years in upper management with a company that was all about the customer. If I had an employee that acted like that, they wouldn't be employed for long. Thankfully, Bill, an employee that brings in carts and also bags the groceries, retrieved a cart for me. He even came outside to bring it back when I was done. VERY nice man. He doesn't even make as much money as the rude b***h. Give him her job! I have patronized this location for nineteen years, since before the chain changed ownership (they're really not a "Chicagoland institution" any more), and dealt with things like their brief policy of having employees follow you to your car to "help," or something. It's been hit and miss all along. The product is still usually (not always) pretty good, and some (not all) employees will go the extra mile if you need it. The deli counter, though, is an utter disaster. The product is not bad, but it's not worth the time you'll spend, or dealing with the laziness and general disinterest of the staff. I've been unable to get help as only customer at the counter, behind which 8, 9 or 10 employees milled about, generally lounged, and enjoyed themselves instead of waiting on customers. I haven't seen work ethics like these since the old days of the DMV. I'm starting to wonder whether my patronage of this place has more to do with blindly following routine than with the actual experience. Maybe Butera is worth checking out. read more

I noticed that the price was not correct for an item I was interested in purchasing. I thoroughly checked before I asked for help because I know that sometimes items are put by the wrong size or amount. I noticed that the item was not indicated on any of the tags, so I went searching for an employee to help. Usually there is one around, stocking the shelves, but for some reason this time no one was in sight except for a manager who was with another employee. I asked if one of them can help me with the price, the employee stomped over, we walked to the chips area, he looked at the shelf, where I indicated that the tag and weight for the bag was not matching up. He says well it's probably the price of the multi-pack. But I said that it is not the same, he became irritated and marched up to the register and scanned it. It was obvious that he was irritated. He said to me the price and walked away. This customer service experience was disappointing. I usually go to this Jewel because it is convenient and the employees are nice. This happened on Thursday 4/29/2021 @ around 4:30 pm. I did not catch his name, because all I saw was his dust as he stomped away. I do remember that he had elaborate tattoos on his arm. I happen to work at the front end of this Jewel and while I'm sure there have been some occasions where employees complain in front of customers, our cashiers are, overall, friendlier and more helpful than I've seen in other stores in the area - Gurnee Round Lake Libertyville Mundelein ... and as for a 300 pound woman sitting in an aisle -- DIDNT HAPPEN -- and I can say this because we don't have any employees fitting this description - never have - and that behavior would most definitely NOT be tolerated by management!!! I am disabled and can't walk any meaningful distance. I frequently found the electric shopping carts were all in use leaving me to return home without shopping. I started to go to the Jewel in Gurnee as that store had five carts not three like Grayslake. I decided to mention it to management. I left a message and was contacted a day later by a gentleman, possibly the store manager, I don't recall. Anyway about a month later there were two new electric carts in the Grayslake store bringing the total to five. I have never had to go home without groceries again. Management was responsive to the needs of the disabled as well as being attentive to the needs of the store's customers. I am not a big fan of Jewel, but this location is on the low end. The deli service is really bad, the cashiers are grumpy and the bakery is low quality. I avoid this location if possible. Perhaps I have just dined at Sammies (YUMMM!!!) or got take-out from Panda Chinese (also pretty good) - I have to stop by Jewel because I am out of toilet paper and newspaper and leaves. I shop here very often, but am frequenting it less and less after each experience I have here. There is truly zero regard for food safety and shelf life at the Grayslake store. I am constantly finding products with a newer date in the very front of the shelves, while the previous dated items are pushed to the far back. The problem with this (not following first in first out) is when products go on sale, I have witnessed this far too many times to count, that I will pick up the product and have either an expired product, or a very very very short remaining shelf life product. I find cartons with broken eggs at this store, yogurt that has either leaked or gone out of date.. Sitting out on the display shelves. This last week the Annie's organic salad dressings were on clearance - so I went to buy a bottle and noticed the expiry date of 31 May 2018....... Seriously? Its nearly November. Why the heck is this still sitting on the shelf? In the same aisle, slightly farther down, the Lucy's chocolate chip gluten free cookies I were going to purchase had a giant tear down the front of the bag. The box of crackers next to them had an expiry date of 17 Aug 2018. I took pictures of all of these things and would be happy to forward them your way. This store is truly just outrageous. There has been two times where the gluten free frozen cooler has been broken and read 64 degrees and 68 degrees. The food is just sitting in there getting warm and soft....That is NOT okay, this is frozen food were are talking about!! The young employees seem to not care when I tell them, and I dont think they get them repaired. That is so unsafe and as a grocery store, whom people are trusting with their food- food safety should be the absolute number one priority. Yet we are met with expired products, broken eggs, room temperature freezers, torn bags leaking yogurts.... If this happening to all the packaged foods with a shelf life, Id hate to see what happens behind the scenes with the "fresh foods". I will never visit Jewels deli counter, not buy meat from this location. When so many food safety issues have been encountered here.... I dont feel confident shopping here unless I literally inspect every single package I intend to buy, thoroughly inspect the coolers are in working order, and make sure nothing Im buying is 6+ months expired. read more

I ordered online grocery items today, and they were not delivered properly by Doordash. However, when I contacted the online ordering department at the store, the staff was very polite, and redid my order, with a discount. They also got in touch with Doordash, and the driver was very courteous, and helpful. The replacement order actually gave me more items, substitutions that I can use, and larger portions on items. I am very pleased with their response, and recommend the store highly. read more

The store itself overall is not bad. The deli, specifically most of the deli employees are generally bad. On several occasions we have approached the deli when they were not busy, only to be ignored by employees who apparently think the "busy work" they are doing is more important than customers waiting for service. When you are lucky enough to get service, they spend most of their time conversing loudly with other employees about personal things, or complaining about work related things. Either way, nobody wants to hear it! Deli meat is not cheap and I want it sliced the way I like it. More than once I have gotten attitude, because I asked for items to be sliced a certain way. Jewel management, if you're reading this, it's way past time to improve the customer service in the deli department. read more

I have lived in the Round Lake/Grayslake are for over 11 years and since this Jewel has opened I have always had a good experience here. From the butcher shop, to the bakery, to the deli, I have always been treated courteously. The store is clean, and we'll run. Yes, every store has it's good and bad employees, but kill'em with kindness is my motto. Give this store a chance. To me it has been better than the Round Lake Store. read more

What is going on at this location?? I really strive to try and like this store, as it's convenient & close to where I live. But... all the employees seem to do is complain to each other about everything. You know what... do it on break, not in front of the customers. Just witnessed a 300 lb. 5' tall woman employee who was disgruntled about something, so she plopped down on the floor in aisle seven to do her work. All spread out, and no one could get by. Comical? Maybe. But this really is a sign of such poor regard for management. And a week before that, three produce guys are throwing vegetables overhead at one another. Ridiculous. read more

This would be 1 star because I'm really just reviewing the bakery but I cannot specify that. The rest of the store is okay, a little better than the Jewel on Rollins so I won't leave just a 1 star rating. My son turned four just a few weeks ago and we wanted to get him a nice cake resembling a cartoon character. We found a picture of a homemade cake but with another kids name on it and brought it to the bakery after calling them and being told they could make it as long as they had a picture. I crossed out the name of the other kid so they wouldn't accidentally write the wrong name. I asked them if they could make the cake, they said yes and took down my order. My wife went to pick the cake up a few days later and all they did was print the picture of the cake on white frosting! The picture even had the other child's name crossed out on it! I would be able to get over the mistake because I'm sure it was due to miscommunication but I even pointed out that I had written on the picture. There is no way somebody didn't notice the scribble on the picture! They easily could have called me to clear up what I wanted. I would think it would be common sense not to print a picture with things crossed out on a child's cake. read more
