Food is a little on the pricier side. The baked goods are pretty yummy. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Comes with a side of salad. It's a solid sandwich. Now the latte was absolutely delicious. Super smooth. They serve intelligentsia and as a Chicago native i love it. They did forget my friend's order, and after a bit of a debacle they gave us a free chocolate pastry thingy and it was a good cancellation prize. Great coffee shop and even better pastries!! They have a beautiful little cafe with big windows that bring in lots of natural light and showcase nice greenery. There are tables and chairs for outdoor seating if the weather is nice out. They even have a to go window for commuters. I've heard that they are going to offer pastry making classes which would be a real treat if you've tried any of their offerings. Though Williamsburg has a variety of coffee shops to visit, Butler should be at the top of your list. read more

I've been a fan of the pastry chef Ryan Butler since his time at the Michelin starred restaurant Piora for his refined, fun-sized interpretations of nostalgic and ordinary desserts. I'm thrilled that now people can enjoy his food in a more accessible and relaxed setting. The simple yet tasteful decor of the store also seems to echo the chef's culinary philosophy. Without the slightest of pretension, this place still manages to stand out among other coffee shops and bakeries. Definite HOT SPOT for both food fanatics and cafe connoisseurs! Never disappoints. This place is my ride-or-die, go to spot for coffee and delicious/inventive pastries. Sweet rock and roll vibes always abound (and welcomed!), except for when Chef Butler is out of the office, then you tend to hear more of the strange euro dance beats, but I can forgive that. ;) Great vibe, great eats, and great service. Always fresh. I'm amazed by how efficient the staff is in such an intimate space. Great lunch options, too! Please bring back the chicken curry wrap! read more

Incredible!! This cafe is run by Australians and is a breath of home without being a tourist trap. Walking into the cafe it felt like everything I had been missing since I moved. It was incredible. The team is so friendly, the coffee's so great and the pastries...oh the pastries! The sausage rolls are the best in my opinion, with the ham and cheese croissants a close second. I've never dined here but the salads are huge and all the food to stay looks like great value for money. Love this place! Super nice. And the drinks are consistently great. The food is also very good.

This coffee shop is quaint yet trendy. The coffee itself is delicious and they have a variety of options on their menu (also tasty). Plus they're accommodating to alternative diets- having gluten free and even vegan items. The staff is friendly but also has a system down when patrons traffic pickup. I welcome this spot for individual or small group, seating is limited inside but when the weather is nice they have outdoor seating, both comfortable. read more

Really, really bummed. I live near this cafe and I was a regular customer... until an *awful* experience with the cafe owner this afternoon. First, he was rude to me at the counter when I bought a muffin, and politely inquired about it before sitting down. "Um, don't you want it heated up?" Silly me -- I know little about muffin preparation, and didn't realize it was to be re-baked before consumption. "Oh, sorry, yep, no worries!" Later, I was working on my laptop (I work remotely) and planned to take a call outside, on one of the patio tables. The nearby train was too loud, but so was the thumping music inside. I felt bad about it, but I knew I really had no other choice than to ask the guy if he could briefly turn down the music. So I did: "Hi, do you mind turning down the music a little for 5-10 minutes? Sorry, I have a last-minute call to take." The guy gives me a DEATH glare and says, "Can't you take it outside?" I told him I tried, but the J/M was too loud passing by, and I couldn't hear anything. Plus, I needed my laptop in front of me. And then he says, verbatim: "I'm the owner of this cafe. This is NOT an office space. Just so you know." I apologized again, and then (embarrassed as all get out) quickly told him that it wasn't necessary to turn it down (I'm feeble during impromptu confrontation). He gives me another condescending expression and says, "Yeah, no, it's fine, but again, I'm the owner of this cafe, and this place is not an office space." Uh... okay? Not sure the relevancy of his ownership with respect to my situation -- obviously, he's got some serious insecurities to work out. And, hey, dude -- it's 2 PM on a Wednesday. *Everyone* is working on their laptops. A final note: There's a sign next to the counter that says the cafe prides itself on providing 5-star service, and if it's anything less, customers are encouraged to take it up with the staff so they can make it right. This was clearly not an option for me. If you're looking for good customer service + a considerate volume of music, stay far away from this place. read more

Popped in for a late lunch this afternoon. Split the turkey sandwich and pressed ham sandwich with a buddy so I got to try both. The bread on the turkey sandwich was pretty amazing. The coffee and food are really top-notch. We love to sit outside with our dog. I recently tried the breakfast sandwich and thought it was outstanding. We also enjoyed the passionfruit brioche, a special we would like to see again. If I had any constructive criticism to offer, it would be to add a few more desserts to the rotation that are a little more decadent. Place is great. I had the cold brew and the size was perfect and coffee was made well. Also had a great ice to coffee ratio. My wife had an americano and loved it. Food looked delicious will definitely come back to try it. They had a lot of bench space outside to chill on. The restaurant itself is bright and with high ceilings so it feels a lot bigger than I am sure it is. Good location right under the bridge makes it a great welcome to Williamsburg. read more
