Well, maybe it's because Barack is dressed inexplicably in a gold Elvis suit - while Michelle is in her simple Donna Ricco sundress without her famed toned arms (see photo). I guess Barack is the King. There certainly isn't a lack of souvenirs to be found when taking a stroll down Grant Avenue in Chinatown, but China Bazaar stands out for having the tackiest and often most hilarious merchandise in the 'hood. That's high praise in my book. Their balls-to-the-walls approach is certainly a contrast to the more expensive silk lanterns and jade statues you can get elsewhere. And yet, this is the one I always browse. Where else could I get a solar-powered geisha-gal bobble-head to adorn my bathroom (see photo)? I'm sure my guests stare at it with envy as they're doing their business.

The customer service is absolutely amazing. The last time I visited with my partner, we bought a sake cup, and the staff beautifully gift-wrapped it for us at no extra charge. Today, I came with my grandparents and picked up an adorable tote bag with a neko (cat) print. The staff were incredibly kind and even gave my grandfather a free pen. He was so happy and kept saying how much he loved it! It's these thoughtful little gestures that make this shop so special. Friendly staff, wonderful products, and a welcoming atmosphere. She LOVES the Badtz Maru character, but Sanrio does not sell Badtz Maru branded items anymore. Once I picked out a cute mug and luggage tag, the owner and I were geeking out about all the rare Sanrio items she has in her store and about how she orders them from Hong Kong. I never though I would feel like such a Sanrio nerd before, but I was so proud. This was such a unique and fateful experience. Now I know where to come back and shop around for more hard-to-find Sanrio gifts!
