My new absolute favorite bagel store! WOW! Rye. Everything and Cinnamon Raisin are cooked perfectly. These remind me of the bagels I grew up eating in Brooklyn. Tuna salad is so delicious and it tastes like Hellman's which is my favorite! They just need to seal their bags with tamper proof tape or staple them closed for Door Dash and Uber Eats. Right now it's 3:00 AM and I can't wait for them to open. read more

December 2024. New owner. Place has a small Reno. Owner seems cool. Bagel formula supposedly didn't change but they do seem different. Shape. Before they were rotund and crisp outside with a soft inside. Now they're all different shapes except the usual rotund. It's more of a regular bagel now. This hurts my soul. UPDATE: New ownership is a fantastic change for the better. The bagels are big, pillowy, flavorful, and hot. There are freshly baked muffins and pastries from Balthazar. The smoked salmon is from Acme. The improved layout makes service much more efficient. And it's brighter and airier - a total transformation of the space. Woohoo! read more

I can't help but judge everyone who gives these bagels a bad rating on yelp. I grew up going to this bagel place and organically started to compare every other bagel shop to the ones you get here. They are THE BEST - no other bagel compares. They are soft and fluffy on the inside, and perfectly crisp on the outside. This is a situation where you can't judge a book by its cover. The outside of the store is one you could easily drive by as it's tucked between a grocery store and a bank. And while the recent renovations have upgraded the ambiance and improved foot traffic in a significant way, it can easily be overlooked as being an ordinary bagel joint. But to reiterate: if you are looking for BAGELS, these blow every other bagel place out of the water. It's kind of the equivalent of going to La Super-Rica in Santa Barbara, CA for tacos. The place looks highly underwhelming but the tacos are insane. I recently had breakfast & lunch takeout at Celebrity Bagels & Restaurant in Tenafly, NJ, and I must say, their Salmon Lox Bagel left a lasting impression. The bagels were fresh, perfectly toasted, and generously topped with ample smoked salmon. The creamy cream cheese, capers, and red onions complemented the salmon beautifully, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. It was a delightful breakfast option that I would highly recommend to any bagel and lox enthusiast. Kindly note, the service was also friendly. Although my order was not correct. They fixed it right away. The location is a great spot; next door you may drop off your UPS packages then go pick up your food order or dine in to enjoy your meal. Pretty good jersey bagel spot, order ahead - the line goes out the door. I will say though this was not the BEST I've ever had, service was friendly, attentive, and had a great system working. Unfortunately, I didn't like the service I received here. I don't order Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese on the regular, so it took me a second to remember how it's ordered. I was ordering it for my boyfriend and the lady realized I was struggling with the wording and shooed me away so that the other employee can help me. Big no, no in my book. If you can't be patient, don't work in hospitality. The bagels were alright. They were really fluffy and most of the order was bagel. They could add more Taylor ham on there being that the bagel is $5+. It was mostly egg. Not sure if I will be returning. They are following COVID-19 measures. read more

I have been going to celebrity for at least 20 years. Aside from the staff issues with being slow and unfriendly, the bagels have changed TREMENDOUSLY since the new owners took over. The bagels are dry, huge holes, not fluffy, etc. plus they charge so much for so little. I spoke with several of the workers on many occasions because I want them to go back to how they were. They said "same recipe, different roller". The seeds don't stick to the bagels so an everything ends up more like a plain. I have gone back week after week hoping things have gotten better but they haven't. It's a shame because they were THE BEST bagels around. read more

The worse the customer service is...the better the bagels? I find this to be especially true in New York and New Jersey. I came in the morning for bagels, sandwich, and coffee. I was met with rough attitudes. However, the bagel was so good that I didn't care! The dough that they make these bagels with are very delicious - fluffy, fresh, fragrant. Since they have really good bagels I continue to go here but it might be the last time. Two eggs and two slices of taylor ham on a roll, 9.06! Crazy expensive. The woman at the counter who has been there for years now took my order. 5 times today. She wears ear buds so not sure if she's listening to music or taking orders. I asked for sausage omelette with home fries and toast and she asked 4 more times variations of tomato omelette or cheese. They don't make home fries so she offered hash browns. I get my order and it's just a sausage patty on scrambled eggs. She charged me for it but there's no hash browns. They've sucked before but I happened to be near by so I stopped today but I will avoid at all cost from now on. They used to be so good years ago. Plus for $12 for couple of slices of lox on bagel, go somewhere else. She must have dug in the bottom of the bin to give me burnt bagel when I specifically said light sesame bagel. I'm always looking for good places to mangia every time I come back to North Jersey to visit dear old mom. I grew up here, and am spoiled when it comes to what I expect from the magic round bread with the hole in the middle. 'Celebrity Bagels...' is the real deal - humongous NY/NJ style bagels that look like they're inflated to 50 lbs.! Made the right way too. They look like pool flotation devices, and have the consistency and taste of a proper bagel. The employees here are kind and hard working too. Great selection of sandwiches and drinks too. The service is great for being seemingly run by older men. You can tell this place has been a local favorite and go to spot from the consistent crowd. They also have plenty of options in what they offer. However, my stars fell short because the bagels did not deliver. They were warm and fresh but still had this lack of natural squish I personally like in my bagels the kind that feels like fresh baked bread. There's a local spot in Lodi that to me gets it right every time, so perhaps that's a tough comparison. Pleasantly surprised with the wealth of different sandwich options and pleased with the selection of bagels (nothing out of the ordinary.) The only unique thing here is the size of the bagels. They truly adhere to the "Oversized Bagels" claim in their title and each bite is as fluffy as the last. But if you are truly a fan of bagels, you can see where the true "bagel nature" is lost on these things. I've lived in Tenafly since 1999 and I've yet to find another bagel shop around that's nearly as good as Celebrity Bagels. I know other people from other towns come specifically to this place because of how delicious and fresh their bagels are. Would definitely recommend coming in during the morning when the bagels are very fresh and still warm.
