    Cheerwine Slushie

This is one of the best fried chicken sandwich spots I've ever eaten at. I heard that Buxton Chicken Palace was a place to get the best fried chicken sandwiches in Asheville and as you southerners would say: Y'ALL weren't messin' around. It was legit. LE-GIT. The first time we came here, we just had some chicken tenders, which were fantastic. They were juicy, meaty and flavorful. I also tried their Cheerwine slushie, which was my first time trying Cheerwine pop, and it tasted like a mix of Big Red and Dr. Pepper. IYKYK! But I made a note to later on try the chicken sandwich, so visited on a different day to get their famous fried chicken sandwich with waffle fries for the flight home. Good thing I did, too, because my flight ended up being delayed and I didn't get home 'til a day later, BUT THAT'S A DIFFERENT STORY. The fried chicken sandwich and waffle fries with their housemade BBQ sauce was awesome! The chicken was moist, tender and had a nice hint of spice to it. It came with pimento cheese, which was my first time having this cheese and it was creamy and good. I liked the BBQ sauce with, as it tasted like a creamy honey mustard versus a standard BBQ sauce. Waffle fries were well seasoned. I recommend trying Buxton Chicken Palace for their signature fried chicken sandwich in Asheville. Located in the S&W Market, it's a casual spot where you can get your fried chicken goodies and sit among history in the art deco building it's located in. What's not to love? I would happily visit again.

Buxton is a pretty solid chicken place! It definitely hits that chicken sandwich craving. I usually just get the Original but this time, the guy at the counter suggested the Club tossed in Nashville hot sauce and it was LEGIT. The chicken is juicy on the inside with a nice flavorful crust on the outside. The waffle fries are deliciously seasoned and perfectly crispy. I also enjoy their array of sauces for dipping/pouring. My issue lies within the pimento cheese. This visit, the pimento cheese wasn't creamy AT ALL. It looked like shredded cheese from the bag slapped on top of the sandwich. The combination of shredded cheese and sliced cold cheese that was not melted was a little off putting. I would have loved for the crispiness of the chicken sandwich to be balanced with a creamy or melty cheese to really take it to the next level.

No surprises here, just Buxton Hall slanging their delicious chicken sandwiches! You want find the full BBQ menu here, just the chicken sandwiches and some sides. This is a great option if you're not looking for BBQ. It's hard not to fall in love with the S&W market, the atmosphere is perfect for Asheville and you are able to get a sample of the food you will find around town. Not to mention some great beers from Highlands Brewing as well!

Pretty legit amount of chicken tenders for it to go Meal. Counter service and the person waiting on me was very nice and helpful. Pretty sure she gave me an extra sauce for free. They came out super super quick and fresh and hot. They're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Nothing super mind blowing about them but a solid choice nonetheless. I like that this is in the S&W cafeteria and super accessible to downtown. Also feels like one of the more affordable places these days

I only wanted a snack, so I just got their seasoned waffle fries. I wasn't expecting much, because while waffle fries are great, they are fairly straight forward. Well I was pleasantly surprised. The flavor and the crunch on these fries were amazing. I will certainly be going back to try the chicken sandwich. They really looked amazing.

This food was great! Our favorite was the spicy chicken. The chickens were huge and provided enough to fill a stomach. It was about a 10-15 minute wait when it was busy. The restaurant was in a food court with a second floor, we didn't go to the second floor but there was good music going on in the back ground.

Really good fried buffalo chicken sandwich combo with fries + drink. Counter service was quick and friendly.

Being a 'chicken palace' there are almost no options for vegetarians however I have stopped by to grab a side of fries and a Cheerwine bourbon slushy and I am absolutely obsessed with both. My favorite dipping sauce is the white BBQ but I am big on sauce so I also enjoy dipping into ranch and honey mustard. Their sauces are great. You can also get a small side of pimento cheese. I would love to see them add a vegetarian chix option to their entrée offerings, however I do not foresee that happening. I will be back for more fries and boozey slushies.

This place has the nicest, quickest, and most friendly staff! They move quick, and the do it all with a smile! The chicken sandwich is better than one you'll find ANYWHERE else. The breading is crispy, the chicken is juicy, the pickles are perfect, the bread is soft & the sauces just top it off perfectly! The chicken 'nuggets' are big, juicy and so crispy! The sauces really knock it out of the park. LOVE being able to have cheerwine, and the fries were seasoned to perfection, hot, and crispy yet so good!

I don't eat a lot of chicken, but their fried chicken sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. I especially love their pimento cheese spread on it!

This place is in the cool S&W market in downtown Asheville. It's remodeled from an old subway entry. It's clean. The customer service is ok. We ordered the club fried chicken sandwich and the Buxton original with their seasoned fries. We received regular fries and not their waffle fries. Although we didn't get their waffle fries (they may have run out) the fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. They were delish. The sandwiches were yummy as well. My husband who was born and raised in the south, is picky about his fried chicken. He enjoyed these sandwiches and even said he'd come back for some more. That's is saying a lot. The sandwich was crispy and great flavor.

This was my first time ever visiting Asheville, and somehow one of the places I'll remember most…read morefrom the trip is a sandwich shop/bodega. I stopped in my first day and got the LT sandwich, which was amazing, but I ended up spending almost as much time looking around the store as I did eating. They have everything from local mustards and honey to tinned fish, seasonings, and a whole section from a local creamery with ice cream, yogurt, smoothies, etc. Everything seems thoughtfully picked out and locally sourced when possible, without having the ridiculous prices you sometimes expect from a place like this. The staff was also amazing--genuinely friendly, helpful, and happy to talk about the food and everything they carry. I liked the place enough that, despite having an entire city of restaurants I'd never tried before, I came back the very next day. This time I got the grinder, which ended up being my favorite, along with the roast beef, which was also delicious. Between the sandwiches, the people, and the frankly ridiculous amount of good shit packed into the store, everything about this place was great. There are plenty of places I didn't get a chance to try while I was in Asheville, but I have absolutely no regrets using two lunches on this one. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. I think everything is made in house and it tastes like it. As their name states, they make gourmet potato chips with varying, over-the-top flavors ranging from salt and balsamic vinegar to ones topped with brown sugar, bacon and chocolate. Between the 12 of us we tried Salt & Vinegar, The Corsica, Southern BBQ and The Italiano. I had the Italiano Panini and The Nori chips. Both were totally delicious. The panini came out hot and gooey. The bread tasted great and the chips were so unique and surprising. I will say that they drizzled a little too much red chili aioli sauce. It was very thick and flavorful. However, after a few bites it was too much so I wiped off some of the sauce. But it was really good, and inventive. Everything is fresh and made to order so it did take us a while to get all of our food, given that we were a large group. They told us before we even sat and we still wanted to try it, so that no big deal. And I will say this. Our table was the last to get served and the food was amazing. Sometimes at restaurants the standards fall when they get busy and that DID NOT happen here. They served great dish after great dish. Bags of chips are available for purchase as well. I'm totally kicking myself that I didn't get some to take home. Gourmet Chip is an Asheville gem!

They sell both pre-packaged bags as well as fresh-made chips to eat in-house. So naturally we tried both! Their Salt & 3 Vinegar chips were delicious. Perfect for an afternoon snack as you're exploring downtown. We ended up taking home some of their truffle chips, which were also tasty. My only complaint was that they needed salt. Not sure if they put less salt on because you can always add more, but they were so much better once we sprinkled some in the bag and shook. They also have sandwiches here - didn't get to try one on our visit, but they looked tasty. Good stop both for a meal as well as a snack.
