We were in town during Valentines weekend and reservations were out the door. We were lucky enough to wait in line at opening hours and steal a spot at the bar. Recommending reservations if possible to get a nice seat, but the bar was not bad. I got the Creole shrimp and grits and they were amazing. Great flavor with large serving size. First meal of 2026 My friend and I had our first meal of the year at Blackbird. We were walking down the main drag and she spotted it. Looked interesting. Open. No reservations needed. So, it's how it came to be. It's the main drag and was challenging on New Year's Day. Not sure if it's always like that or if it was because parking was free for the holiday and everyone was out and about. You'll have to figure out parking on your own because I left the rental a few blocks away in a spot that I wasn't going to give up to look for, hope and pray for another closer to the restaurant. Place was bustling. Counter was full. All tables were packed as they kept turning over as soon as parties were leaving. Service was friendly but like I mentioned, it was busy. Had to wave team members over a few times - but tended to immediately after. Never waiting so long that I would say it was bad. Between the two of us, we shared the brunch Hash and Creole Shrimp & Grits. See pics. Portion sizes look small but the pics aren't capturing how deep the dish went down. Enjoyed the hash as it's not something I eat regularly so it was like a treat. I liked the consistency and how well everything was prepared including the eggs - as ordered sunny side up. The Creole dish seemed not bland but muted. My expectation of anything Creole tends to be spicy and I don't mean hot. Not that it was bad but just for me, could have used a little more kick. Went here for breakfast after seeing their street sign advertising farm to table. We ordered the pulled pork Benedict and though the portion was generous it was rather dry. The poached egg was very overdone. We also ordered the stuffed French toast and I thought that was also dry. **January 2026: Thursday Late Morning Visit** My friend and I were lucky to have found free parking on New Years Day, but a lot of restaurants were closed. I noticed that Blackbird Restaurant was open and was enticed by the "chef owned" and "farm to table" signs so we decided to check it out. We were a party of two and were able to get seated right away even though it was pretty busy. We were there around 11am so the menu was specific to brunch offerings. After pondering the different options we decided to split two dishes - the Creole Shrimp & Grits and the Corned Beef Hash. Our waitress Campbell was wonderful and delivered both dishes with a smile. ENTREES -Creole Shrimp & Grits ($19) The shrimp was grilled nicely. To me the gravy and grits were very muted. So for me I'd probably skip it next time. -Corned Beef Hash ($19): Between the two dishes I preferred this one. Went to the Blackbird for brunch. Started with a coffee that wasn't bad and for my main, I decided on the Corned Beef Hash. It arrived looking amazing. The portion size was very good. The corned beef was well seasoned and the potatoes, peppers and onions were well cooked. The only drawback was the glaze. Great vibe, great location and excellent food. The menu was a creative mixture of local offerings, great pairings and well executed fan favorites. We started off with Blackbird Crush mocktails & beignets (chefs kiss!). We ordered a burger, steak and shrimp caesar & Cobb salads. 1-Star Review - first time in 11 years giving a one star when using Yelp. I was disappointed with our Thanksgiving dinner for 4 at Blackbird. I've eaten there before and always thought the food was decent, and several friends had recommended it. However, this experience was a major letdown. The Thanksgiving plate arrived cold, and the gravy was splashed everywhere. The stuffing was soggy, the green beans even had gravy on them. We sent it back, explaining the food was cold, and it came out again just as cold. It was inedible. For a place with a good reputation, this was surprising and really unfortunate for a holiday meal. We have walked by this restaurant several times and have always seen it busy, so we decided to check it out when my parents were in town. My dad likes a steak, and I'm a vegetarian. This restaurant was perfect for us both! I was very impressed with the vegetarian section on the menu. I ordered the beet and zucchini stack as an appetizer and the goat cheese corn pie as an entree. The beet and zucchini stack was a fresh take on a typical beet salad, especially as a stack. I liked that it had the crunch from the nuts and some cheese on top. I loved the goat cheese corn pie, though. It was warm and very filling! It was very creative with the mushrooms and kale to dress up the pie, which felt more like a shepherd's pie-type of pie than the quiche-style pie I was expecting. What a great dish! The service was friendly and patient. I am happy the waiter recommended my entree dish from the veggie selection. I also really liked the decor, especially the outlines of birds on the walls. We had plans to go to another restaurant up the street for brunch; however, found parking right outside of Blackbird. Curiously, my husband looked up their menu just to check it out and it took about two seconds of looking to sell us on changing our brunch plans! And I'm so glad we did! We are pretty patient people so we just rode it out. Our server came over with a plate of steak and eggs and apologized that there was a mix up in the kitchen and wanted to offer us a free snack while we waited. The pork was like a rock on the edges, which is absolutely from being recooked. The crab cake was just awful. It seemed the same like something that had been cooked more than once. Crab cakes im used to are soft and moist in the middle. This one was dry and hard throughout. The greek style vegetarian one was by far the best one, which is the one I didn't even want. The corned beef hash was dry. The mustard served with it was VERY strong. It was okay, but the dish was mostly potato, which they try to hide by slapping an egg on top. The scallops served with dinner were very undercooked (we are from Virginia and have scallops all the time). Sent them back and when remade were excellent. The disappointing: Service. The restaurant wasn't busy, less than 1/3 full. Our server was also the bartender, but no one checked on us after the food was served, no drink refills. I had to walk up to the bar to get more drinks. My wife couldn't send back the scallops until the server wanted to clear her plate - just made for an overall disappointing experience. read more

I received a like warm, undercooked omelet with Sunday potatoes and the farmer's breakfast came with scrambled eggs. If you can't do over hard eggs just say so, but scrambled is not over hard. I had the braised eggs benedict on a biscuit, which I liked, but it was missing a bit of flavor or possibly salt. My husband's shrimp and grits were the star of the meal. My mom's egg BLT was good, just fairly basic. Unbelievably friendly service throughout the whole evening, from our main server to the helpers who brought the food, down to the bartender and owner who checked on us throughout the evening. My wife and I chose the 6 course tasting menu since we haven't been here before and wanted to experience what the chef had in store for the evening. The 6 course dinner, including a palate cleanser in between costs $65. Less than $10 per course if you include the palate cleanser. What an unbelievably great price for what we you get in this fine dining establishment. Every course was outstanding. First two started off with a tasty shrimp bisque followed by fresh roasted mushrooms with the most amazing celery root puree. Next came the 2 seafood courses, the melt in your mouth scallop gratin followed by a perfectly cooked mountain trout with red rice salad. The braised beef for our 5th course didn't need a knife, it was that tender. We finished off with a decadent truffle medley for dessert. Each and every course had depth to flavor and portioned perfectly so you were completely satiated by the evening's end. One of the BEST meals I have eaten in a long time. We started with the olive bread and its perfectly baked crust and hints of Kalamata olives. The beet & shaved zucchini salad had my taste buds dancing especially with the perfect balance of pecans and crispy bacon.
