The bar service menu was pretty extensive and the guy i talked to was really knowledgeable. I'm not that savvy on all the options, and he had the patience to explain it all to us. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we had seen some items we wanted to try, but the sanitation grade on the door was a 90, so that quickly changed our food choice and should have changed our food experience for the evening. We decided to try it anyway! The hostess didn't know the menu very well and couldn't answer many questions without having to go ask someone each time. Once we ordered, my brother tried paying for the food a few times and she kept walking away. While waiting for our food, the same hostess "cleaned" a table for waiting guests by wiping the food from last guest onto the floor and leaving it there and continued to seat the next few tables, and then decided to come back and get the food swept up. I guess it's normal because another server did the same thing and that never got swept up. Our food (wings and brisket) was ready. The pan lid was not closed all the way due to them putting all 36 wings that had different flavors in the same container. We continued to inspect our food and the wings weren't hot (fresh), all three flavors in the same container, sauce was clumpy, and wings were very dark and dry looking. We couldn't tell which flavor was which. My husband tried conversing with a young man (tall, dark wavy hair), who couldn't or wouldn't attempt any service recovery with my husband and pretty much told us everything looked good to him leaving my husband frustrated. I located a manager told her what was going on and she evidently didn't have any empowerment from upper management to decide resolution because she had to go ask the general manager to resolve. The general manager agreed to "remake" the order which they did separate the flavors this time and they were warmer. Considering this was a remake the GM brought our order out to us and should have been apologetic, making sure everything was correct and was satisfactory to us. He literally handed my husband the bag and took off. My husband had to make a comment to him in order for the GM to acknowledge him. We definitely would love to speak to a corporate member and or owner, and will make a phone call to them. Driving by, my partner and I laughed at the name but it was very eyecatching and there were a lot of people and when we didn't know where to eat so late at night this place was still very busy! Their cod dip is very creamy and delicious, I love that it came with both crackers and toasted bread! For my first time in NC, this was such a great place to be! A mix between divey and casual dining. Great place to bring the family and enjoy live music on the weekend! Molly was super kind and gave me some insight on what to get. She recommended the drink in my picture, since she designed it. It's like a sweet old fashioned. The blackberry really stood out. Also the platter was such a great value. Brisket, chicken wings, sweet pickles, collard greens, mac n cheese, and potato salad for $35?? What a steal. I could cut the brisket with my finger! We stopped in on a Saturday evening at 7:30, and waited about 40 minutes to be seated which isn't bad given the location and how busy it was. We were seated upstairs away from all the noise which was nice as we had our son with us. They have a decent kid's menu with your basic options (grilled cheese, chicken fingers, Mac and cheese etc). The egg rolls we ordered for an appetizer were okay, but I'd pass if we came back. We also ordered the big daddy or whatever it's called bbq board which honestly was way more than enough for two people. The baked beans had good flavor but was overburdened by the whiskey or whatever liquor is in them. The potato and pasta salads were very good as were the greens. With the board, you get a bit of everything including brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings, and bacon as well as the sides. We honestly could've skipped getting our son a meal as it was so big. The build your own salad was supposed to be with Gouda, but came out with cheddar. The fries were delicious with my burger. The mac and cheese was thick; you could tell it was made with high quality cheese, my favorite kind. We were visiting Asheville for the Memorial Day holiday weekend and decided to check out Daddy Mac's Down Home Dive. On the plus side, the restaurant was incredibly easy to find and they actually have parking available, which is always a massive win when traveling. Once inside, we were seated at a high-top table, and our server was very pleasant throughout the meal. We started with the collard green and pimento cheese dip, which was supposed to come out hot in a skillet. Unfortunately, as I started dipping into the center, the middle of the dip was still cold. For mains, my husband ordered a chicken sandwich with a side of mac & cheese, and I went with the grilled cheese with candied bacon and tomato. Both of our sandwiches had the same issue: the tomato slices were cut incredibly thick--at least a half-inch. It made my husband's sandwich really hard to eat, to the point where he just took the tomato off and ate the chicken with a knife and fork. My grilled cheese was fine, but that massive tomato slice was just a bit much. As for the sides, my husband's mac & cheese was on the dry side. Mine wasn't dry, but it didn't really have a ton of flavor. I totally understand that the restaurant is trying to go for a fun, modern twist on southern classics, but for us, the execution fell a bit short. After walking around the city for an hour, I ended up where I should have started in the first place. Daddy Mac's is a sports bar on steroids. There were several TVs playing the national championship game and a massive full-service bar. It was loud, but not obnoxious. I got there as they were switching to the late-night menu, which limits the options, but provided all the pub highlights. Wings. Sliders. Nachos. Salad in a jar (yeah, I didn't see that one coming either). I went with the nachos, but swapped out tortilla chips for tator tots, and I won that night. No cap, I should have gotten a salad in the jar to complement the tots. Next time I'm dreaming bigger. read more

Well I guess it lives up to the name "dive." It's just bar food in a slightly dirty resultant. You're greeted by their 90.0% health safety rating, which means they have some stuff going on. People seemed nice, but the tables are just a permanent state of sticky. Our waters came with lemons that were old and shriveled. And my "salad jar" was ok, but you could tell the lettuce was old. My first time at Daddy Mac's. The restaurant was casual and relaxed. The staff were friendly and personable. I tried the Fish Camp tacos, pimento cheese appetizer and pretzel with beer cheese appetizer. All were delicious and I would eat time and time again. The Beans were sweet with big chunks of bacon giving it a nice unique flavor. The Brisket potatoe hash had some heat and soft brisket chunks. The Candied Bacon I would eat right away because it does get hard, loved this sweet fatty flavor. The Chicken wings were super crunchy very good seasoned and juicy inside. Been a regular here for years. Was just told on May 1 by both hostess and then the manager? (Hostess simply pointed to him and he didn't introduce himself) that our party of two couldn't be seated on patio because "it's going to rain." I saw others briskly turned away for the same bs reason. No rain on radar the next 24 hours or in forecast. When I politely asked if they were short-staffed, both said (separately) "no we don't want our staff getting wet." When I offered to retrieve our orders indoors and bus our own table (again, minimal cloud coverage, no chance of rain) I was told "no". When I asked for a logical reason they were turning customers away ( 8:15 on a Friday night) the "waiter/manager" exasperated and bored sounding, said "why are we having a discussion about this". They obviously don't give a s**t about their employers' business. Or customers. Or manners. Or even trying to come up with a good lie. We are now seated on the patio of The Hound, where they welcomed us on a full patio with a sunny disposition and the ability to recognize clear skies and good business practices. (You know, just being decent, honest and respectful humans who are employed to serve customers in a restaurant with a patio. ) UPDATE: Of course it never rained. Everything was very good except the brisket which was very dry and the burnt ends which were dried out. Great place with a large variety of food and beverage options. This is a Sports bar with lots of big screen TV's on which to watch your favorite teams. Our server Grace was friendly and very helpful. While it is easy to find, parking is an issue, but that is typical for Asheville. There is a lot at the bottom of the restaurant with at least one handicapped space. Other parking would be along side streets or perhaps down the street in another lot. If you have limited mobility, you need to decide on taking the stairs up from the parking lot or walking quite a way up the sidewalk to a door on the side of the building. While not specifically a fault of the restaurant, it is something to be aware of. This is more a sports bar than a restaurant, although they do have a good menu selection. There are a lot of TVs on the walls tuned to different sporting events, and it can get loud depending on who's team is doing well. Seating is tables of various size and they were easily able to accommodate our party of five within a couple minutes. We were there in mid-afternoon, but the place was about half full. There is also a patio in the rear (above the parking lot) with tables and sunshades. Our server came by quickly and took our drink order. The drinks took longer than normal to get to our table but that did give us additional time to review the menu. Our dining partners had been here previously so knew what they wanted to order very quickly. We made our selections before the waitress returned with the drinks, but it was not an overlong wait. The food took close to 30 minutes to arrive. The classic burger was just that, a smashburger on a bun with lettuce, tomatoes etc. The meat was cooked well but not dry. The veggies were fresh and crisp. The secret sauce was fine is not special, and the bun was soft and held together for the entire meal. The accompanying fries were cooked correctly. The classic cheddar mac and cheese was also decent. The cheese was hot and melty but overall seasoning was limited. It was a typical mac and cheese dish. The dining experience was fine and the food decent. If you are looking for a sports bar with a wider menu selection, this would be the place to go. read more

This is a Cleveland Brown's bar just as an fyi. Upstairs on Sunday's host legit Brown's fans, but they are nice and welcoming to others. I ended up donating to their 50/50 raffle for charity. They do have sound for the games but whatever games they choose. The food was okay, I'm a pescatarian so sometimes it's hard to really have good bar food. But we ordered the fried pickles, beans salad, side Mac and cheese, side pasta salad, and the banana pudding. We left full and satisfied.
