My husband and I were so excited for a little getaway and love a little history so we thought this place seemed perfect. We were somewhat disappointed to find out the pub was not open due to staffing shortage and the continental breakfast was sparse. On the website the pub looked like it would be open, and for what you pay a night you would expect more for a continental breakfast. Also, the night we stayed we noticed the price per night (for a room similar to ours was only half the price). Other than that, this was a cool experience!

My family and I had an overall pleasant dinner experience at this establishment. The staff was very thoughtful and due to low crowds, allowed us to choose a table for our party. The server also checked and made sure my mother was able to have dairy free and gluten free options for her restrictions. We were served timely and there was just the right amount of check-ins. The complimentary yeast rolls were delicious as well as the chicken curry soup and sweet potato fries. The chicken curry soup was very unique and even though it had grapes, all the flavors blended very well. I had the Chicken Divan which was a great selection! It came out warm in a baked dish and had just the right combination of chicken, broccoli, wild rice, and cheese crust. It was also a fairly large portion and adequate for the price. In addition to the excellent service and food, the atmosphere is a must for history buffs! The inn has been around since 1812, and even though it's "haunted", it's very warm and inviting. It stays true to its early 19th century heritage with colonial style interior design. The staff even encouraged us to explore the building! It couldn't be more perfect of an aesthetic tucked away in the town of Granville. I look forward to coming here again!

Took my girlfriend here on a date to celebrate her new job. It was absolutely lovely and gorgeous! The staff was incredibly inviting and friendly. Our waitress had been there for a long time and was familiar with everything. The food was A+++ fantastic! As other reviews state, nothing like the new fusion type of food you find most places. Just timeless classics and actually a very different type of food these days! We loved everything we tried which included a salad, the fried brie, french onion soup, Chesapeake bake, and 'louie' which was the Louisiana chicken dish. Everything was so beautiful and top notch! Afterwards we went around to check the different rooms out and it was very cool! My girlfriend loved this place, and it made me love it that much more!! =) It should be noted there is a pub type atmosphere downstairs that you can eat at. We did not eat there but went down and saw it! It's inexpensive priced and looked very nice down there too! So you have a dressy attire place and a casual place downstairs! Two restaurants in one that you wouldn't know about unless you went and found it! They do not mix the environments at all! in other words, you can't hear people down in the pub. The nice dining areas (they have like 11 dining rooms) are very beautiful, each their own theme, and very serene! With over 200 years of history, this is one fabulous place in Granville! Absolutely recommended!!!

Stayed here on the way home for the holidays. The Inn was all holiday decked out and was bustling with locals in the tavern and a few private parties when we checked in. We were showed to our room, number 9, the most haunted room in the place and was warned it was more rustic than their other rooms for the " ghost factor". It was a comfortable two bedroom suite with a clean bathroom. The tavern met capacity shortly after we checked so we had to take our happy hour across the street. Returning later after dinner, we had a night cap in the tavern and a great conversation with Mark the bartender. We slept well in a very quiet room and didn't experience any ghosts. Overall the staff is welcoming and helpful. The complementary "continental breakfast" was a bit disappointing but getting it brought to our room was a nice touch. The hotel is in great condition and excellent upkeep overall. Our room, if meant to be rustic was so, but it verges on forgotten. The dated bathroom was not an issue as it was very clean and utilitarian. A good coat of paint, especially on wall trim, lamps that all worked, curtains that weren't tacked in place and fresh carpet would go a LONG way to increasing perceived value of the room but wouldn't take a big investment. Nevertheless we'll recommend it and book here again when we come through. Just some suggestions to keep this grand old lady going. Thankyou for a nice holiday stay over, Buxton!!

I knew I was going to love this place when I was greeted by the golden retriever Dakota when we arrived. Yet another lovely pooch greeted us at the door, Miss Wrigley. Loved having the pets around. The garden and home are amazing. Really quite lovely. They also have a beautiful pool with lounge area and a lovely big porch in the front of the home. We stayed in the Berllan Glen room. It's gorgeous. Big bedroom area, very large bathroom area, and private porch. The pictures speak for themselves. Some folks may need a step stool to get into the bed :) The reason for the one start deduction is that I went to put my lingerie in the bureau. I saw a bunch of women's stockings all curled up inside in a drawer. I assumed someone forgot their clothes. Then I opened other drawers. They too were all filled. Then I went to the end table chest of drawers on both sides of the bed, they were full. I finally found a few empty drawers in the armoire with the TV. I also could not find a closet door that would open. I eventually figured out there were two rods to hang clothes on on either end of the armoire. I believe the lovely hostess should've told us that there were clothes in our room and where we could hang or put ours clothes away. I found it off putting and quite odd to have someone else's clothes in the furniture. I've since asked other friends and family and they too agree that is quite odd. Anyway, the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Lovely spread. Apparently, you can arrange for dinner at the home, but you have to let the innkeepers know in advance. The house is chock full of items for decoration and has a tiny little gift shop where I did purchase some private label Earl Grey tea that's quite yummy. As a very nice touch they do have complementary sodas, water, and snacks for the guests. One can also purchase wine, if desired. There is also a coffee bar and tea bar. I was so pleased to see a tea bar because so few places have that. My only small issue with that is that there's no milk available--only in the mornings when the coffee bar has their half-and-half out. I didn't realize they have "operating" hours. The innkeepers are available until 9 at night, unless an emergency. I finally figured that out on a card they left in the room on the bureau with fresh water. It's about a seven minute ride to the actual Town of Granville. The town is a must see! The Whit's ice cream is delicious. All in all, it's a lovely place, except for the fact that I had that issue with putting my clothes away.

We had the Fall prix fixe menu in an Igloo, ate lunch at the on-site restaurant, and had Happy Hour…read moredrinks at the on-site bar and also stayed at the hotel. Note for Igloo reservers and prix fixe menu people: I was told you CAN order things off the prix fixe menu while in the igloos, but it's an upcharge. I'm not sure why; they're making those same things inside of the restaurant and bar 50 steps away, but if you're a picky eater who is on the fence about a pre-made menu, you can make it work if you want. I wanna say the place is a maze, but it really isn't. But it IS two very-large circles. Walking and stairs are a given for this place, and it can be easy to feel "lost" getting to your room. (Getting to our room, for example, required a set of stairs and 4 right turns then a left) It was great for getting steps in, but if "getting steps is" isn't necessarily comfortable for you, make sure you let them know that at check-in. I would not recommend this place for someone who has difficulty walking or uses a wheelchair. It's "technically" accessible in most spots, but it definitely isn't friendly to it. PROS: -Room was surprisingly spacious with tons of area to move around. Everything was clean with a gigantic bathroom that you could easily host a 5 person meeting in. If, y'know, you wanted to do that. -The furniture in the room was all very sturdy. You know how some hotel room furniture just looks cheap? Not here. Everything looks like that hand-me-down furniture from your grandparents that will outlive you. It was all clean too. -In-room bathtub is gigantic and easily fits 2 people and would fit four people if you, uh, had good friends. -All drinks at the bar can be poured in plastic to go outside with you. The bartender was happy to pour us a double with straws, and we had a great time walking the beautifully-lit Fall lights as the sun was going down. By far the highlight of the trip. -All the staff was really nice. Quite a few of them were brand new (I'm not sure if they have high turnover here or if it's seasonal hiring) which made for some interesting - but not terrible - experiences. I still want to know if there's a story to the Teddy Bear that's sitting up in the ceiling, though, and none of the staff were able to give me an answer. CONS: -Igloo experience was okay. It wasn't worth the cost. We got a lot more of our enjoyment from walking the property, having drinks while curled up on rocking chairs, and seeing everything they had to offer. The igloo was surprisingly cold (we asked for additional heat, and the server said she'd bring someone out, but no one ever showed), and my fingers were getting too cold to easily hold the silverware. The food was okay (with very generous portions. VERY generous), and the service was regular, but between the temperature and the "okay" food, it didn't quite feel worth the price. That being said, we'd probably do it again in 5 or 10 years simply for the ambience. It WAS cute. Just not worth the cost to make it an annual tradition. -wtf is with the bedframes they chose? The bedframe corners extend much further out than the bed, and we both ended up with multiple bruises from whacking our shins on the corners of the bedframe. -It's definitely a hotel built into an old building, and they aren't charging a ton per night. It is not immaculate. Things that matter (your bathroom, your bed, the sheets, tables, etc.) all seem clean and modern. Things that could fall into disrepair without affecting hygiene aren't necessarily spotless. Shingles on some of the buildings are falling off. The gazebo hasn't been repainted in awhile and its wooden age shows. Some light fixtures are hanging off their mounting points and most of the landscaping is starting to show that it hasn't been updated in a bit. Dust is pretty much on every surface that isn't easily-reached by standing (which is easier to notice when you can look down on the first floor from the second in most of the hotel). -Hot tub was down when we looked. A couple other reviews also mention this, so I wonder how long it has been down. Hot tub fixes are EXPENSIVE.

I honestly don't think there's a hotel out there where you can receive a better value for the price of a guest room here. The entire hotel is designed to resemble a rustic lodge and upon walking up to check in (in the colder months at least) there's a large, inviting fireplace lit with plenty of seating to welcome you in. The rooms are large and clean and maintain the hotels rustic design. The rooms have large couches and a large flat screen that swivels so you can enjoy it from the seat of your choosing. The soaking tubs are my favorite part and are a great place to unwind after your daily activities. I saw a lot of reviews complaining that the jacuzzi in the pool area is always broken but I'd rather have my own private soaking tub anyways. There are multiple restaurants in the facility, however, I'd recommend dining elsewhere. My husband and I dined in an igloo at the Craftsman that had a prix fixe menu and for a 170 dollar dinner it did not deliver in taste or quality. Drinks, however, were well made and delicious. All in all I believe it's a great place to stay and as someone who stays at hotels often, very cheap for the amenities you receive.

We were in choicehotels group, and every where we have stayed in one, from Frankenmuth MI to Belleville MI to Pittsburgh PA we have started to take our own bedsheets and lysol disinfectant wipes just to be on the safe side. We did not need them here. The beds were clean, the bedsheets were clean, the bathroom was clean, the front desk was clean and uncluttered. The only issue we had was in room #321 there were no bath towels, but when I contacted the front desk lady, Ashley, our needs were met ultra fast with an apology. It was not her fault. That's the job of the housekeeping supervisors to check and see if all is ok before rendering a room to be reopened for business, but the apology came from Ashley the only representative at night while we checked in. Awesome customer service in her part. The next morning we rushed down to have a quick breakfast, and I dropped my wife off at her work site. Returned back to the hotel and lounged around till 1pm with a late check out. Their normal checkout is 12pm. Love the times.
