Had an incredible time here while sending our son off to his freshman year of college just north of here. The food is phenomenal and you get so much of it for such a great price. Our server Angelina was top-notch as well. She went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. The restaurant itself definitely gives you a feel of that good ole country bbq cooking. We will definitely be back!

I had the pleasure of being served by the owner's son, and his customer service was absolutely top-tier. I've been frequenting this spot for years, but this is my first review and for good reason: the food has always been consistent and delicious, that I never slowed down long enough to pen one. These are truly the best smoked baby back ribs in the city, so tender, they fall right off the bone. My go-to sides are the baked beans, apples, and corn on the cob, though I'm told the mac and cheese and collard greens are outstanding as well. If you haven't tried their menu yet, you're missing out.

Top notch BBQ and super customer friendly! I regret not getting my waitresses name! I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was $7! My waitress was so good I left her a $20 tip! Super friendly kind and quick. Made me feel like I was home and the sandwich was amazing! Well cooked pulled pork! I could tell it was made today!

I have been coming here since college and whenever I'm in town, and am always impressed! I miss the old location near the ballpark, but the food is just as good out here on W. Broad! My husband and I got sandwiches (pulled pork and brisket), loved the clearly homemade coleslaw, okra (a must for me), cobettes, onion rings, and cinnamon bourbon apples. Good thing we like each other and are good at sharing! Nice bartender, food came quickly, and was a great lunch stop on our road trip! Family friendly and probably good for groups.

I felt the meat was a bit fatty. There was a giant fan that spun over the light bulbs which gave the place a strobe like effect, which is strange for a club. The sauce was a little vinegar-y, but not horrible.

Passing thru Richmond and had to stop here. Hadn't been since before Covid...regrettably. Wish we lived closer. Love love love Buz n Ned's !!! Great atmosphere & vibes. Had Meaty Spare Ribs, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, & Onion Rings. Ribs were 10 out of 10. Cole slaw nice savory horseradish. Beans were perfect & the Rings spot on. Great selection of beers and cocktails. Wife had the Blueberry Lemonade & I had the Double IPA. Both were delicious. Our waitress, Vicky was awesome. So friendly. Great recommendations and took good care of us.

Unfortunately from my last experience many years ago, the quality and flavor have gone down significantly. Mediocre brisket at best. Bun was stale too...I hate it has fallen off as when it was in it's prime it was outstanding.

I placed a pickup order on'line for just meat yesterday, a large beef ribs and large spare ribs. When I place the order online, it said includes garlic bread. When I got home I opened the bag and found two containers, see pic with just the beef ribs. No pork spare ribs or garlic bread. Very disappointing, since this place is 20 minutes from my house. So I had to drive back over. They really didn't seem to be concerned about screwing up my take out order. I told her they forgot the pork ribs and garlic bread. She said garlic bread doesn't come with just meat orders, I said fine but the online ordering system says it does and my recipet on says or does. After about 20 minutes I got the spare ribs and an hour after I got home with just beef ribs I was home again with the pork ribs and 2 pieces of garlic bread The beef ribs were excellent, which is why I gave them a 3 stars overall. The pork spare ribs were okay, but could have been cooked more to increase the tenderness. Overall the experience wasn't good because I wasted an hour of my time running back and forth for their screw up, which they really didn't seem to care about.

Solid 5.... I see and taste why they were voted the 4th best BBQ spot in the country by the Food Network. It was (and still is) hot as hell here in RVA today. So as doing anything outside when it's 112 is just stupid, Mrs Yelp and I took a little trip here for a late lunch / very early dinner. I had found this spot on Yelp months ago and we never made it here till now. The rustic look of the inside is spot on and fits the food perfectly. There are a few TV's that had the EURO's on. We sat at the bar. The bar keep was Johnny on the sport. Service overall was excellent. I had the Texas All Beef Smoked Sausage Sandwich and a side of the Mac N'cheese. Very nice. Mrs Yelp apparently had a bigger appetite than me. She got the Meaty Spare Ribs, the "small" version. And let me tell you that there was nothing "small" about it. Half of it is currently warming up for dinner. The cold slaw per her was spot on. And she was talking about the corn bread on the way home. To quote "that was f*#€Fen fantastic". I'll let her finish the review off in her own words "Ribs do not disappoint! They are incredibly delicious & tender, very meaty (fall off the bone) Fred Flintstone would approve lol. the sauce was a good bbq sauce (not sweet) with a little pepper on the back side of the bite. The cornbread was VERY moist and delicious, butter isn't really needed, however I did add some. Fantastic! The coleslaw was my other side, tangy and delicious. Not sweet, more of a peppery flavor but still delicious! " We will most definitely be back.

Still in the top 3 of the best ribs I've ever had in my life. Bottom line up front: Recently returned to the RVA area; read some less than stellar reviews of B&N so I had to check it out. The original spot has closed, now they're in a big, full-service type restaurant. I got a full rack of baby backs, fried okra, and the cucumber salad. As I stated from the beginning: still in the top 3 best ribs ever. I don't know what people are complaining about, unless maybe they got something other than ribs (but why would you do that? B&N is all about ribs!) Fried okra was great (hard to mess that up); the cuke salad was okay (personally I would not get that again). The only thing that was just not really good was the bread they included with the meal. I wouldn't do that again, for sure. Ambiance was fine. As I mentioned, it's more a full-service restaurant now, unlike the old place. Very much a honky-tonk feel to the place. Details: Sunday afternoon visit. Cost: about $50 total (I got 3 meals out of the ribs) Service: excellent Food: I'll say it again: STELLAR/SPECTACULAR. One of the best ribs I've ever had!

Love this place! I stop in on every visit to Richmond. You can't go wrong with an order of ribs. I have been steadily trying all of the sides and haven't had a single miss yet. Service is always warm and pleasant. Ask for recommendations! And there's usually a buzz inside. It can get busy but things move quickly.

The meats here were very good - extremely tender with a nice smoky flavor. I was personally a huge fan of the spare ribs and my girlfriend loved the prime rib (which I have never seen at a BBQ place before!). The sides were a bit lackluster and just ok, but service was friendly. While a bit pricey, I would definitely come back just for the meats! Meats: Brisket, Prime Rib, Pork Spare Ribs and Sausage Links Sides: Jalapeño Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad and Collard Greens

First, let me preface this by saying that I grew up in North Texas for the majority of my life…read more Second, I've had a LOT of BBQ during that time. Well known standards from the area including Angelo's, Railhead, Heim's, Cousin's, and a lot of old places that are no longer in existence. Each one offering its own spin on a Texas standard. Upon moving to Virginia, I hadn't ventured out to any of the BBQ joints, but one of my associates from the office would often talk about ZZQ. I had assumed that Virginians had a concept of BBQ that was akin to shredding some meat and pouring BBQ sauce on it. So, I finally had the courage to visit ZZQ a few weeks ago to pick up an order to go. I arrived just before opening time on a Saturday morning. There was a line that extended just down to the street. Probably 40 feet or so. Figured this would go pretty quickly once the doors opened. I was wrong. After 15 minutes, I had only moved about 5 feet. The line was building behind me, but simply appeared to have gotten stuck somewhere in front of me. After about 40 minutes, I had finally made it to the front door. Inside, there was another line up to the cutters. There were menus to peruse and a large sign with all the cuts and sides you could think of. A great variety. As I got closer to the front, I realized that it wasn't the cutters causing such a slow procession, but the customers. As I listed to them talk, most seemed to have absolutely no clue what they wanted at all. Did I mention the menus and billboards? They seemed to want to chat about food and prep more than just order. Had this been in Texas, the mob of a line would have escorted you out. When you get to the cutters, you know what you want. No time to dilly-dally. I got up to the cutter and placed my order. I was getting a variety, so I went for 1/2 a chicken, 1.5 lbs of sliced brisket, a couple of sausages, mac and cheese, cole slaw, and sauces. The cutter gave me a chunk of the brisket. Definitely moist, a bit overly fatty, but tasty. Their idea is the "meat has enough flavor so that you don't need sauce." He also mentioned they smoke with oak wood. Good to know. The taste is good. Probably as close to a Texas style as you can get, but with some small exceptions. Mesquite wood is often used in Texas for smoking. Plentiful, but obviously costly to transport outside of Texas. It has an exquisite flavor that is just right for BBQ. The second is the sauce. I like sauce...GOOD BBQ sauce! Unfortunately this is where ZZQ falls short. I didn't care for their sauce at all. Too vinegary and liquidy for the lighter sauce, and too heavy with molasses with the other one. So, I had to make do an whip up a small batch of homemade sauce at home that helped to bring it together. All the folks at ZZQ made it for a nice experience. Definitely customer oriented and friendly. I think the BBQ is as close to Texas-style as you can find in these parts, but kind of a miss on the sauce. Still, I can either make my own or buy a bottle at the local store if I want. Definitely worth a try, but you will need patience with a barrage of people who clearly have a lot of questions about BBQ.

But follow the smell of smoke into that little cut and you'll discover some seriously good BBQ. First and foremost, the food had me excited, but our interaction with the owner made the experience even better. Welcoming, funny, genuinely personable, and incredibly patient while walking us through the menu. That kind of hospitality matters, especially at a neighborhood BBQ joint, and it immediately made the place feel like somewhere you want to come back to. Now to the food. The Pork Belly Burnt Ends were the standout for me. Melt-in-your-mouth tender with that beautiful combination of smoke, sweetness, spice, and rich pork flavor. These alone are worth knowing this place exists. Definitely one of those hidden-gem dishes in RVA that deserves more attention. The brisket and pork ribs are absolutely worth a visit too -- smoky, flavorful, and exactly the kind of meats you want when you walk into a place with BBQ in the name. The sides held their own as well. The collard greens were properly seasoned and cooked just right, and the mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and delicious. Nothing felt like an afterthought. Then there are the sauces. SMOHK isn't just giving you the same three bottles you see at every BBQ spot. From the Smoked Apple BBQ sauce to the Gochujang BBQ sauce, there's a real range of flavors here that lets you take the meats in completely different directions. Traditional BBQ roots, but with enough creativity to make the place feel like its own thing. SMOHK is a different kind of BBQ joint -- tucked away, full of personality, creative without forgetting the fundamentals, and serving food that makes you glad you followed your nose. Don't blink when you're driving by. This one is worth finding.
