I stopped by Buzz and Ned's Real BBQ for lunch last week for the first time since the pandemic. I ordered the brisket sandwich with hush puppies and potato salad. The brisket sandwich was pretty good--certainly not the best I've had, but far from the worst. I do wish there had been a little more meat for the price, especially since lunch ended up being a bit on the expensive side. The potato salad was the standout. It wasn't overloaded with mayonnaise like some places, the potatoes still had a nice texture instead of being mushy, and it was well seasoned. The hush puppies, unfortunately, were disappointing. They were dry and pretty bland. I ended up using quite a bit of butter just to make them more enjoyable. I'm not sure if it's nostalgia or just looking back through rose-colored glasses, but the meal wasn't quite as good as I remembered it being before the pandemic. That said, nothing was bad enough to ruin the experience. Overall, it was a perfectly decent, unoffensive lunch. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but I also wouldn't hesitate to eat there again if I was in the mood for barbecue. read more

Had an incredible time here while sending our son off to his freshman year of college just north of here. The food is phenomenal and you get so much of it for such a great price. Our server Angelina was top-notch as well. She went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. The restaurant itself definitely gives you a feel of that good ole country bbq cooking. I had the pleasure of being served by the owner's son, and his customer service was absolutely top-tier. I've been frequenting this spot for years, but this is my first review and for good reason: the food has always been consistent and delicious, that I never slowed down long enough to pen one. These are truly the best smoked baby back ribs in the city, so tender, they fall right off the bone. My go-to sides are the baked beans, apples, and corn on the cob, though I'm told the mac and cheese and collard greens are outstanding as well. I have been coming here since college and whenever I'm in town, and am always impressed! I miss the old location near the ballpark, but the food is just as good out here on W. Broad! My husband and I got sandwiches (pulled pork and brisket), loved the clearly homemade coleslaw, okra (a must for me), cobettes, onion rings, and cinnamon bourbon apples. Usually I love Buz & Ned's bbq and I have been craving it for a couple weeks. I hit them on a Thursday early dinner, like 4:45pm. The bbq plate with two sides was as good as always. I even ate some coleslaw on my pork bbq as theirs is not running or saucy but instead it's crunchy and a little vinegary but pretty good. I do wish they gave you more baked beans. They are good but the serving is very small and they are saucy so you really don't get much beans. My server, Grace, was efficient sweet and the food was out super fast. The restaurant is always clean and the self serve drink refills are handy if your server is busy. My complaint is it was freezing cold inside! Even the poor waitress was wearing a big flannel jacket as she was freezing too. I actually started to shiver while I was eating. Plus the music was so loud you couldn't hear your own conversation. It was great music, jazzy stuff I loved, just way too loud. The food is worth it but please, turn the music down and the heat up! Otherwise I won't be back until the weather warms up. Food is straight TRASH!!! Terrible experience every time I let my guard down and give them a chance just bc I am hungry, I work near by, and I enjoy some well executed barbecue. Not once have they gotten our order right, always something left off or shorted! Most of the meat is always leftover or reheated old bbq, never from that day or morning, just older, dry meat. On top of poorly done bbq with poor attitudes inside the place, you have it way over priced, at least try to compete with the other trash bbq stands in town or compensate by piling the crap high! I placed a pickup order on'line for just meat yesterday, a large beef ribs and large spare ribs. When I place the order online, it said includes garlic bread. When I got home I opened the bag and found two containers, see pic with just the beef ribs. No pork spare ribs or garlic bread. Very disappointing, since this place is 20 minutes from my house. So I had to drive back over. They really didn't seem to be concerned about screwing up my take out order. I told her they forgot the pork ribs and garlic bread. She said garlic bread doesn't come with just meat orders, I said fine but the online ordering system says it does and my recipet on says or does. After about 20 minutes I got the spare ribs and an hour after I got home with just beef ribs I was home again with the pork ribs and 2 pieces of garlic bread The beef ribs were excellent, which is why I gave them a 3 stars overall. The pork spare ribs were okay, but could have been cooked more to increase the tenderness. Overall the experience wasn't good because I wasted an hour of my time running back and forth for their screw up, which they really didn't seem to care about. read more

The fries were excellent. The prices were ridiculous and the atmosphere perfect. A roller coaster ride of minimal choice, bad taste and hilarious pig themed shooting gallery. 2.5 at best. We stopped here for lunch based on a friend's recommendation. We were told to seat ourselves. The decor was a kind of western/cowboy vibe but was clean. We got a table and looked over the menu. They had a good selection. The server came over to get our drink orders but didn't give us her name. The drinks came in throw-away plastic cups with compostable straws. I was impressed by the environmentally-friendly straws but I couldn't tell if the cups were bio-degradable. Our server came back after a few minutes to take our order. Prices were reasonable over all. The food came out very quickly and the forks and knives were also compostable. I ordered a chopped pork sandwich with cucumber and onion salad and hush puppies. All of it was delicious but it would have been even better had the pork been warm. It was room temperature. My cousin's beef sandwich was also room temperature. My other cousin had ordered a sausage roll with fries and potato salad. Her sausage was actually cold and she didn't get fries or potato salad. We tried to flag down our server who waved us off. We tried again a few minutes later and asked to have the sides we ordered and asked for a hot sausage. The server actually balked! After some gentle prodding, she grabbed the sausage sandwich off the plate and took it back to the kitchen. She came back with the correct sides and a hot sausage a few minutes later. No apology. My other issue is she never checked back in with us or got us drink refills. The place was not that busy with less than half the room filled. So the bottom line for me is that I won't likely go back. There are far too many other BBQ restaurants around. When I pay for food and it arrives room temperature or cold when it should be hot, an order is wrong, and we catch an attitude for asking for what we ordered, I know we can get better food and service elsewhere. read more

Solid 5.... I see and taste why they were voted the 4th best BBQ spot in the country by the Food Network. It was (and still is) hot as hell here in RVA today. So as doing anything outside when it's 112 is just stupid, Mrs Yelp and I took a little trip here for a late lunch / very early dinner. I had found this spot on Yelp months ago and we never made it here till now. The rustic look of the inside is spot on and fits the food perfectly. There are a few TV's that had the EURO's on. We sat at the bar. The bar keep was Johnny on the sport. Service overall was excellent. I had the Texas All Beef Smoked Sausage Sandwich and a side of the Mac N'cheese. Very nice. Mrs Yelp apparently had a bigger appetite than me. She got the Meaty Spare Ribs, the "small" version. And let me tell you that there was nothing "small" about it. Half of it is currently warming up for dinner. The cold slaw per her was spot on. And she was talking about the corn bread on the way home. To quote "that was f*#€Fen fantastic". I'll let her finish the review off in her own words "Ribs do not disappoint! They are incredibly delicious & tender, very meaty (fall off the bone) Fred Flintstone would approve lol. the sauce was a good bbq sauce (not sweet) with a little pepper on the back side of the bite. The original spot has closed, now they're in a big, full-service type restaurant. I got a full rack of baby backs, fried okra, and the cucumber salad. As I stated from the beginning: still in the top 3 best ribs ever. I don't know what people are complaining about, unless maybe they got something other than ribs (but why would you do that? B&N is all about ribs!) Fried okra was great (hard to mess that up); the cuke salad was okay (personally I would not get that again). The only thing that was just not really good was the bread they included with the meal. I wouldn't do that again, for sure. Ambiance was fine. As I mentioned, it's more a full-service restaurant now, unlike the old place. Very much a honky-tonk feel to the place. Details: Sunday afternoon visit. Could be better cue... My husband and I happened upon this place on our way back north from Richmond. It had pretty good google reviews, so I figured we'd stop. I saw the "food network" sign and thought we were going to be in for some seriously good eats, but I left incredibly wanting. The outside is very "saloon"ish typical BBQ joint style design I am used to where I moved from, and inside was very open with interesting seating set up. When I say I was left wanting, it starts with the menu, which is displayed in a binder. It's a little strange to me since I can't imagine the menu changes enough to warrant holding a binder or three on every table. I ordered the ribs because I love determining whether or not they can get a good smoke and flavor to compare to other restaurants. For the price, I was expecting better flavor and better portions... and maybe more sides. I was definitely expecting a better presentation of the food, for sure. The sauce was "meh," the cornbread didn't taste like anything, and even putting the whipped butter on top would not save this cornbread. I hate wasting food, but the cornbread did not get finished and it did not come home in a takeout bin with me, which is a first. The texas toast could have been better if it wasn't burnt. I'm not even sure how it could be burnt, considering we were one of 7 people in the entire restaurant at this time. With the lack of orders coming through, I would have expected better attention being paid to an item that comes with the entrees by default. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich and he said it was okay. The bun it was on was only just barely toasted, so he said it was a weird combination of the bun and brisket together. His fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil and the flavor was not good. The coleslaw was a positive, crisp, tangy, ad a little peppery, however I'm of the belief that if the coleslaw is the standout at a BBQ places, you've got some work to do. The food itself wasn't the only let down. Despite being one of a few people dining at this time of the day, our server was MIA for most of the time, so we ran out of a drink pretty quickly and saw no trace of her, and I wasn't sure what the deal with refills was considering they had their soda machines facing out towards the seating, but the waitress never mentioned anything about diy refills. We came out of the experience feeling like we spent *a lot* for a very underwhelming experience. I'm wondering if we just came on an off day on an off time, though I can't imagine a weekday not too long after the lunch rush is over should be that different. Cruising down Broad Street in Richmond around dinner time, we decided BBQ sounded good. Google and Yelp to the rescue! We found this place just a mile from our location and decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is super casual with seat yourself options at the bar, tall tables, family style tables, and booths. For a Saturday night it wasn't very crowded as we entered although they were doing a considerable to-go business. The crowd did increase as we ate including a large party of a basketball team. There were only 2 servers on which created a bit of a wait to get attention. However, once we ordered our food came quickly. There were 2 folx behind the bar and even when they weren't busy (with bar customers or to-gos) they did not come out to help the wait staff. We both decided on the brisket sandwich and an array of sides including fries, slaw, baked beans, and cuke & onion salad. Everything we ordered was fantastic and flavorful. Their house BBQ sauce is worth trying as well. Not much of a downside except maybe another server would have been helpful. Oh, and our sticky table top. read more

Hadn't been to Buz and Ned's in a long time. We didn't stop going there on account of the food, but their prices have always been on the extreme end of bbq. Yet, decided to make a trip there yesterday. Our order consisted of 1 full and 1 half slab of beef ribs with bbq beans, cole slaw, and macaroni & cheese. The ribs continue to stand above all others I have visited in the Richmond region. They are as tasty without the sauce as they are with it, but given the price, would have hoped they The BBQ beans were also very tasty and my son liked the mac & cheese. The cole slaw, however, was a little underwhelming, but it could be a matter of taste. My wife, daughter and I ate there on 2/25/24. We had fried pickles and hush puppies as an appetizer. The fried pickles were crispy on the outside. Very tasty. The hush puppies were nice and crispy but had a weird shape. They were tasty. My wife and I both had the brisket sandwich, small, platter. We both had Mac and Cheese, she had cucumber and onion salad. I had the potatoe salad. The brisket was very tender but flavorless. It was smokey, I'll give them that. It lacked seasoning, definitely needed salt. The BBQ sauce on the table was sweet, vinegar, delicious. The coleslaw was sweet, not very creamy and definitely needed some acid. The Mac and Cheese was very creamy, tasty and delicious. The potatoe salad was average. It wasn't the worst I've ever had but not the best either. The cucumber and onion salad was very tasty. My daughter had hot dogs and fries, nothing to say about that. My wife had a delicious chocolate Brownie for dessert. I had the bread pudding. I really liked it, very flavorful, delicious. For me, the best part of the meal. Our server, Zoey was awesome. She was very friendly, attentive. I would give 3 1/2 stars if that was possible but for me, the dessert pushed it from a 3 to 4 star rating. read more

Yummy bbq! Chicken thigh skewers were very juicy and yummy. The beef ribs were soft and covered in sauce. Loved the onions/ cucumber side. Mac and cheese was good but imo I think they need a more cheddar cheese that has that tangy bite only cheddar can provide. Loved the garlic bread that came with each meal. Loved the baked apples! The staff are friendly and the food has improved at the West Broad/ Parham location a lot, lol! Just a word of advice to the customers, Always check your food order. I ordered a lot of food and patiently waited. The food order arrived but I got a phone call at the last second and had to leave, asap! Got back to the office and checked out the order. The guy did not put any bbq sauce or cole slaw in the bag, ugh! Huge bummer, luckily we had a bottle of bbq sauce and some salad. Always check your food order before you leave the place!!
