I put alot of faith in 1st impressions as to what the remainder of the experience will be. It didn't fail me on this visit. When I walked in the door I was met with less than enthusiastic staff. No personality at all. I hate talking bad about staff. Most work real hard, maybe it was just a bad day. I ordered the large pork bbq sandwich with slaw and a chopped brisket (what?) sandwich with slaw. And a side of baked beans (pint). The bun was very stiff and the brisket had no smoke smell or flavor. This is why I don't care for chopped brisket. You can't see the smoke ring or crust which is why I'm not sure what the cut was. It was a bit dry and chewy. The pint of beans had no flavor either. They seemed like they came from a can. The pork bbq was the same. For the price I paid for 3 sandwiches it definitely was not a good value. I'm afraid I can't give you a good review on this visit. Poor impression and poor brisket. Lethal combination. read more

I really liked the big portions that they give for the sandwiches. The cheese fries side was also ample and delicious. The hush puppies were good, as was the corn nuggets, which I LOVE, but it definitely isn't as generous as the fries are. The sandwiches were really tasty. The pulled pork was good, but I think the fried bologna was amazing. The bologna was super thick, charred, and topped with onions and peppers and cheese. It tasted like the most interesting Philly cheesesteak I have ever had. I will definitely crave this again. The cheese fries were really good, plentiful, and they had a slightly spicy kick, like maybe there was some jalapeño juice in the cheese? So good! The food is pretty inexpensive too considering. A sandwich piled high with pulled pork and coleslaw sets you back around $8, and add a few dollars more to get a fountain soda and a side. The bbq sauces were good, but nothing insane. I couldn't tell the difference between their sweet and spicy sauces, but the sweet peach one is pretty unique and tasty. I ordered a bag of pork rinds to take home and they were just okay. I've had some really spectacular ones that are made fresh, and these were made the day prior, so they were good, just lacking the warm, fluffy, melt in your mouth goodness that Hogshead has. I probably won't order them again, even though I did like the smoky seasoning blend they put on top. The restaurant itself is very clean, and the lady taking our order was very nice and helpful. The prices are amazing, especially in this economy! And the portions are great. We couldn't finish our food even though we wanted to. The food was delicious, I'm biased towards BBQ but I loved it. Finally was able to visit the Smok N Pigz BBQ restaurant and I was absolutely pleased with the perfect BBQ. I'm very finicky and they allowed me to taste before we purchased and I am so thrilled I now have a place to buy BBQ the way it should be made! Place was also very clean , organized, and we were treated with genuine hospitality! Lastly they also have a butcher side where we purchased fresh pork sausage and it also was very good when we fixed it up for breakfast the next day. We will be back again and again. A little too much bread for my taste, but they do not skimp on the meat. Big chunks of tender pork, yummy! This is nearly a weekly routine for us. It's the best smoked meats we know. The smoked wings are each a full 3-section chicken wing. We love their Memphis heat bbq sauce and we love their Carolina style sauce. Good fries. Good fried okra and great corn nuggets. They might be called corn fritters. And we ALWAYS get a limeade for each of us. My 6'5" husband gets a pork bbq and there is enough in the Jr version of that burger that he never has to order the larger sandwich. I also have had their smoked 1:2 chicken and the ribs. We've tried nearly everything and would recommend any of it. You can't go wrong. Sweet employees. The owner is usually on premises. The bldg is shared with a butcher shop and they also sell some of the best desserts (made locally) in Powhatan. I truly hate posting this honest review, because I don't want all yall in line in front of us. We've had Memphis BBQ, St Louis BBQ, Carolina Bbq and Pierce's in Williamsburg, but Smok n Pigz BBQ is definitely best. read more

I stopped by after reading the reviews for some ribs to take home. I got two half rack dinners, one spicy and one sweet. My spicy ribs were not done. The meat was tough, hardly any sauce and no bone showing from being undercooked. The sweet rack my wife got was cooked properly. You could bite through the meat. I got a pound each of sliced brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken. I was disappointed in each. The pros: Price wasn't too bad and the meat was tender. However, the brisket had at most a 1/16" smoke ring and no crust... like they used 50cents worth of rub on it, smoked for 20 minutes, then put in a pressure cooker. I was excited to try this place since it's not far from my house. They were friendly and I like the set up inside. I got a pound of pork and a pound of chicken. The pulled pork is just OK, some good smoke on it. The chicken is really disappointing, no smoke flavoring and not one drop of seasoning. Like baby food bland chicken and found bones in it. We were driving down route 60 and had barbecue on our minds and we spotted this place. Super nice and friendly staff. We ordered a pound of brisket which comes chopped or sliced, two pulled pork barbecue sandwiches, hush puppies and fried. All of the portions are generous and delicious. Pricing is really affordable for what you get. The brisket and pulled pork barbecue were on point and the fries and hush puppies were perfectly crispy. I asked about sauce and the guy gave me a fat stack variety of their house-made sauces. Which were all flavorful and different (in a good way).
