Visiting from San Diego and kind of on a BBQ crawl this was our 4th BBQ spot on this trip and was easily our favorite. I ordered a half slab of ribs,2 brisket sammies and their loaded fries with brisket. Everything was exceptional the brisket was so tender it melted in your mouth and the prices were super reasonable for what you get very generous servings. No place within 120 mls comes even close to this in San Diego and there's a place called Heritage BBQ in San Juan Capistrano that somehow got ranked very highly by Teacas monthly that has a line down the street that charges more that doesn't come close to this place. We walked right up to the counter and got our spread within 15 minutes here.

Sliced Brisket. 1 pound. Fatty. Mmmmmm

BEST BBQ in the Short Pump area - Richmond - area!! Upon walk in, you smell that barbecue smoke. That's the sign of fantastic Q. Great value too!! My go to -- sliced beef brisket. Fatty moist please. Delicious. Smoked for hours. Tender. 14 hours to be exact of smoke. Black pepper. Amazing bark. No sauce. Texas style. You can get lean. But fatty has all of the flavor. BBQ sauces -- Carolina -- vinegar based. Spicy. With a little kick to it. Not sweet at all. Several other sauces to select from. Mild is good too. Lots of free parking. I always get several pounds of the fatty brisket to go. Now I'm hungry!! Will return. Support this small business!! There is other traditional BBQ fare too.

    Complimentary wedding sample.. amazing

Went for a scheduled wedding tasting and arrived a tad early.. they offered us complimentary beverages which we just were fine with water. However, they had a private little dining area ALL SET UP. With a display and options it was awesome. Then Niki came out just explained the process and let it just be relaxing. THEN, the food!! Oh wow, first off the display was incredible. Most things they gave us an abundance to try. (Don't worry, I'll post pics;)) anyways by the end she just gave us all the numbers and we put the deposit down to reserve our special day. I d so thankful for the staff and wonderful Niki!! Highly recommend, can't wait to see it next September. Free complimentary food everything. We tipped but it wasn't expected. Anyways book fast because they are popular with good reason! Thanks Niki and compliments to the bbq master and chef

Some of the most affordable BBQ in Richmond and up there with some of the best! Only $47 for 1/3 lb brisket, 1/3 lb pork, 4 wings, large jalopeno mac n cheese, small fry, and two pieces of cornbread. Out of everything, my favorites were the mac n cheese and cornbread (with the honey butter). Out of the meats, the wings were my favorite but the brisket was a close second. Everything was so good and so well priced, we'll definitely be back.

Catfish sandwich with mac and cheese.

I had the Catfish sandwich with mac and cheese. My sons had pulled chicken, the brisket sandwich, and also the smoked sausage. Mac and cheese passed my test. It was creamy and cheesy. Needed salt and pepper. It was good for restaurant stove top mac and cheese. The catfish needed to be crispier. It tasted fine in general, but the breading was mushy in the creases. Their tarter sauce was delicious. I wish the sandwich had come with lettuce and tomato. The smoked sausage was just average. The pulled chicken also just average. Nothing special here, unfortunately. Overall I felt like this was yet another overpriced BBQ place with average food in RVA.

My husband and I stopped in mid afternoon on a Sunday. It wasn't too crowded with people eating in the restaurant but there was a consistent number of pick up orders as we dined. We were warmly welcomed by two staff members and really enjoyed our interactions with them. We both had pork sandwiches and fries. I would skip the fries next time and go with a different side. The table next to us was raving on the mushrooms. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day. We will definitely stop in again!!

We came on a Monday afternoon and there was no line. The staff are very friendly and there's a lot of seating. We ordered 1 lb brisket, 1/3 pound sausage, and sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread as sides. Food was more than enough for 2 people, we ended taking the rest to go. The brisket could have been more moist, but overall tasted great with the spicy Carolina and mild sauces. The self serve lemonade and iced tea was a nice touch. Solid barbecue spot!

Let me start off by saying that I'm originally from Boston, so I haven't had much experience with bbq, but this place has the best brisket sandwich I've had in RVA. When I entered I was immediately greeted by a very friendly staff. I decided to try the brisket sandwich, which came highly recommended, but got my cole slaw on the side, along with a side of mac and cheese, and of course, a sweet tea. The tea had unlimited refills, and I actually blended the sweet and unsweetened teas together (I'm still getting used to the sweet tea!). The sandwich was so moist that it didn't even need sauce! I did try a taste of the sweet sauce, which was too sweet for my liking and the mild sauce, which I liked much better. The cole slaw was tasty, and the mac and cheese, although very cheesy, lacked flavor. I added a bit of the mild bbq sauce to it, and it was much better. Overall, I was really happy with my meal and the friendly staff, so I'll definitely be back.

Love the bbq and they have good sides. I hate going to a bbq spot with no good sides but no worries Deep Run has you covered. And the sauce is good and doesn't require any doctoring up. I believe they have a vinegar based sauce for those who prefer Carolina style bbq. They offer a variety of meats including smoked wings. Service was great and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Casual dining atmosphere. If you're in the west end give them a try!

One of my favorite BBQ joints when I visit Richmond and a long time family favorite, Deep Run Roadhouse have never disappointed.

    Pulled Chicken Sandwich

I got the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese and cowboy beans. The chicken was pretty good, moist and seasoned. The bbq sauce was very liquidy but it did have good flavor. The sandwich with two sides was about $14. For that price, it's definitely a good deal compared to any other bbq places. The staff were nice and it was clean inside. I wasn't blown away, but if you are craving bbq on a budget this is place to check out. 6.9/10

I had the braised beef short ribs, which were melt-in-your -mouth. Paired with garlic mashed potatoes, roasted root veg, and some of the best collard greens I've ever had. He had the fried chicken with hot honey, garlic mashed potatoes, and more collard greens. That fried chicken was so crispy and delicious. Had the peach cobbler bread pudding for dessert, and it was an EXPERIENCE. The only thing that would have made the meal better was some of the slab bacon, but we'll know to come for breakfast or lunch for that next time!

We came here on Saturday evening, around seven o'clock. The parking lot had plenty of spaces near…read morethe restaurant. Upon entering, the hostess greeted us and, at our request, seated us outside because it was a beautiful day. The restaurant venue and ambiance were modern and well kept. The bathroom was clean and nice. The outside seating area was also fairly clean with comfortable seating. Our server (neither my partner nor I caught her name as she said it: she had beautiful braids with blonde streaks woven in) started on the right foot, took our orders promptly, and brought out our waters. I ordered the Smothered Pork Chop, and my partner chose the Fried Chicken, subbed pimento mac and cheese for the collard greens (who can blame her?). The food did not come out promptly. My best guess is that our server was seated with a large table and prioritized a better tip over the two top (us) outside. Eventually, the food came out (~25 minutes, so not terrible), but for the number of patrons in the restaurant, it was too long. My partner's mashed potatoes were cold, but she said the fried chicken and mac and cheese were fantastic. The potatoes tasted delicious, but they were simply not warm. My pork chop was very thick, like a filet, which is okay, but it wasn't what I expected. I prefer a thin pork chop, so that it cooks all the way through (more solid, not soft). It was passable. The beans and rice (Hoppin' John) were also not what I was expecting; I was thinking more New Orleans-style, but they were bland, like cream of mushroom soup on unseasoned beans and rice. We ordered the banana pudding for dessert. We ended up waiting for that for ~20 minutes as well, a half-pint glass of banana pudding with underripe bananas mixed in. Note to the chef: heat ripens bananas, so you could toss a few in a skillet with a little oil in a pinch (egg yolks also work). We waited for another 10 minutes, and I finally went inside and asked the hostess for the check. I realize it is difficult to serve, but you must also consider asking your colleagues for help if you have too much going on. All in all, the food was satisfactory, but the service was lacking. We ended up waiting an hour longer than we should have had to. I semi-recommend Farm and Oak, but look to be seated with the better server, John. He and the hostess saved our experience.
