    Slice of the chocolate cake
    Flo S.

I stopped by this bakery on a Friday to pick up a birthday treat for my friend before our lunch. I usually go for cupcakes, but this time the chocolate cake in the display case immediately caught my eye. I stood there debating for a bit--looking at the cupcakes (carrot, red velvet, espresso) and even considering the macaroons, especially the chocolate one. But in the end, the chocolate cake kept calling my name, so I went with that. The woman helping me was really kind and even offered to give me a candle for the cake, which I thought was a nice touch. She boxed it up for me and didn't completely close the top of the box, which honestly made it feel a little extra special--like a sneak peek of the cake inside. I brought it to the restaurant where we were having lunch, and my friend was so happy when I surprised her with it. We shared it for dessert after our meal. I was a little nervous buying a cake I hadn't pre-ordered, but it turned out to be delicious--moist, rich, and perfectly chocolatey. There was a bit more frosting than I personally prefer, but the cake itself was gorgeous and tasted great. There was also a vanilla cake with rainbow sprinkles in the case that looked really tempting, but since my friend loves chocolate, I definitely made the right choice. She even compared it to a cake she had recently bought herself and said this one was better. I told her if she couldn't finish it, she could always freeze the rest and enjoy it later. That's actually what I like to do with leftover desserts--freeze them and pull them out when I'm craving a sweet treat. Overall, it was a great last-minute birthday pick and the cake was a hit. I'll definitely be back the next time I need a sweet treat--and honestly, I might have to try that vanilla cake with rainbow sprinkles because it looked so scrumptious!!

Popped in because I heard they had Whoopie pies. Buzz is in a very walkable neighborhood. Laid back atmosphere and seems to be a community hangout. They have indoor & outdoor seating. Plenty of baked goods to choose from. You can pre order cakes & other items. The service was efficient. The whoopie pie was bigger than I expected but tasty although a little dry. I would come back if I was in the neighborhood.

I had the BEST experience with Buzz Bakeshop! I was having a book launch party and wanted a cake with the book's cover image on it. The staff was super helpful (and friendly!) over email explaining my options, and when I picked up the cake, I was stunned by how gorgeous it was! Also (perhaps most important), it was DELICIOUS and everyone at the party loved it!

I ordered a smash cake for my son's 1st birthday. Positives: I was satisfied with their service from the beginning. Terri was helpful with giving me options in how to get close to the cake I envisioned. We communicated the details via email which helped everyone stay on track and focus on the details. The cake was only $35 which I thought was a great price. The cake tasted delicious. It wasn't too sweet, given that it was made with vanilla, butter cream, and oreos. Needs improvements: It didn't have the smash factor I expected. Especially for a one year old, he couldn't smash it even with my help. Also, there was more icing than there was cake. Lastly, the oreo filling was dry, not moist as I expected a filling to be. Overall, I would recommend this bakery. They just need to improve on a few things.

6 in German Chocolate cake (added my own decoration)

Apparently German Chocolate cakes are hard to come by in this area. Buzz to the rescue! I stopped in randomly one day looking for a sweet treat and struck up a conversation with Terry, who is extremely helpful and nice. German chocolate was not part of their normal custom cake offering but they were able to accommodate my order. It was a seamless ordering process, I didn't have any tight turns rounds or crazy requests. The cake was a hit, moist and very "heavy" for a 6". I've been twice and never had to wait in line longer than 5 min to order. I've also had the red velvet and carrot cupcakes- both moist and delicious. They make a lot of coffee syrups in house, so I'm curious to try those. Buzz has a great atmosphere, nice decor, great customer service and ample street parking. The desserts are good and they have a great selection. I'll surely return!

    French silk pie

After stopping nearby for coffee, we took a stop over to the shop to see what there was to try. Quite a varied selection of pastries and baked goods. I exercised some restraint and had the 9:30 cupcake and a slice of the French silk pie. Cupcake: WOW! Rich, dark chocolate cake, perfect ganache topping and the interior cream was so good. The textures were all spot on and it wasn't overly sweet. The pie was also just what I was hoping for. The whipped topping is every-so-slightly sweetened, but it's light flavor balances the right chocolate filling. Chocolate crust was so good I wish I had more.

That's how the cupcakes are supposed to look like!!

Super rich moist cupcakes! The S'mores cupcake is more like a decadent chocolate cupcake with a graham cracker crust and a dollop of marshmallow filling. While I've had more cupcakes resemble S'mores, the cupcake was quite tasty! I'm not typically a big fan of chocolate cupcakes and frosting (vanilla all the way!), but the creamy fudgy frosting was out of this world with a super moist chocolate cake. The Cookies and Cream Oreo cupcakes had a mountain of vanilla Oreo buttercream frosting on a rich chocolate cupcake and a dollop of the same cookies and cream filling inside. While it was fun to try, I wasn't really impressed with it. While both cupcakes were good, I enjoyed the S'mores over the Cookies and Cream!

For the second birthday I was able to get Buzz Bakeshop cupcakes. These cupcakes are amazing. I truly enjoyed every bit.

Vanilla sprinkle cake- I walked in and picked this up.

Eh, I found this place to be just okay…read more The inside is okay. Late on a Saturday night, there's a mix of regular folks, parents with small children getting a weekend treat, and folks with the munchies who just have to have a cookie. Biggest complaint - there are several TV screens, but only one has pricing, one has drinks, and the other was just random shots of stuff they sometimes have. I wish one of them had "current cookie offerings" (it rotates) because otherwise, you had to wait until you got to the front of the line to see what there was, and then people are waiting for you to make up your mind. It just added pressure to what is supposed to be an enjoyable cookie experience. It's not a cheap place (it's a bougie dessert place in NoVa; what do you expect?), but the monster cookies are large and filling and easy to share. We got a half dozen for our family of 5 and that was plenty. We even got an Oat Milk brown sugar tea - it was fine. The whole place is vegan, which does add to the price point, but if that matters to you, this is a good place to get your cookie on. That said, I don't know if it was the lack of egg, or that the monsters were underbaked, but I found the cookies just heavy. The two I will vouch for were the chocolate chip (classic, can't beat it), and the cinnamon roll - I kept coming back to that one. The rest were pretty meh. Service was okay. We had to wait for the next batch of chocolate chip cookies to come out of the oven. I get it, though it took longer than estimated. The weird part was, in the whole time we were sitting waiting (and everyone else had ordered), the clerk handed me my half dozen box and I had to remind her of our drink. Sweet, but spacey. In the end, if you like fancy cookies and/or vegan sweet treats, you might want to give this place a try. Otherwise, you can get plenty of other desserts along King Street.

Not because of the flavors, but the ways you can get your sweet treat (like, cone, cup, sundae, etc.) and other various options (like ice cream, sorbet, custard, etc.) I sampled a couple of sorbet flavors and ended up with a small cup of those two flavors. A small cup is two scoops so it was perfect! The flavors were Lemon Lavender and POG (pomegranate, orange, guava). At first I think I liked the lavender best, but as I continued to eat, I think POG stole the show. They were both refreshing and flavorful and I appreciated the blends to give my tastebuds new flavors. Del Ray is such a cute neighborhood too. I sat outside at the tables/benches to eat. If you're planning a visit, their website is pretty slim and doesn't list all the options for getting a sweet treat. I do think it would be helpful for it to include those options. But others have posted pictures of their menu so you can search for that.

The server person was clearly impatient with him but made me a little uncomfortable. I got the "Kit Kat" ice cream sandwich. It came in an Oreo wafer and was chocolate custard and was hard as a rock, plus was bland. I had to go back in and ask if it was actually the right thing, since it was so unrelated to KitKat. The cashier guy said yeah, it is KitKat. I told him it was nasty. It was $7.70 when all was said and done. Don't be back.

And they asked if I wanted to try any others. So I got: mango tajin, chocolate cake (not pictured) and chocolate glazed. The chocolate cake was dry and didn't have much flavor. The chocolate glazed was my favorite. The donut was cakey and reminded me of some sweet treat from my childhood that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe some of the Entenmann's donuts? Anyway, it was really good for being a simple and plain donut. The manjo tajin wasn't bad. It's a plain vanilla cake donut with the mango and tajin in the icing. The flavors were good, but it wasn't worth me finishing. I love donuts and I love specialty donuts. After taking a look at the candy, gelato and desserts, we settled on key lime pie. The key lime pie was pretty good, though it was perhaps a little too sweet and the filling rather dry.
