Friendliest staff ever-- Brett, Mike, Raffy, Jose, Francisco-- the whole lot! Helping keep DTLA safe and sane through the pandemic! Great selections of snacks too! Particularly those mango and apricot SWEETDUET CHOCOLATES! Good god are they good! Good AND good FOR you :P Can't wait till they can get people in the back tasting area again!

Hoppy beer flight & red wine flight - beer o'clock

I figured it was time to bump my original 4-star rating to a big ole 5-STAR! While living in DTLA, BUZZ became a staple of life. Instead of getting all crazy on a Friday night, I'd opt to head to BUZZ for their famous "beer & wine" tasting events. I highly suggest following them on Twitter and signing up for their emails - they are constantly informing you of beer events. Flights on flights was the name of the game. For around $10-15 you could indulge yourself in beer, wine, the best chips and sometimes complimentary snacks that went along with the specific beer flights. My favorite event was their "Indulgent Beer O'clock" - chocolately stout/ipa brews and mounds and mounds of milk & dark chocolate. And did I mention the staff here is kick ass? These are the hipster cool kids that actually talk to you and KNOW what they are talking about. When you need a suggestion, they are quick to help out. I miss living above BUZZ but I will be back - soon. CHEERS!

I was immediately yelled at for taking this picture. No pic allowed. Humbug!

I like the concept of Buzz, with the available wine bar attached, and the helpful staff when it comes to selecting wines, but I am consistently unimpressed with the wines they have in stock. Time after time I've tasted their wines, mostly in the $20 range, with some more expensive, and a few less, and never feel the value is there. It's a matter of trusting the staff when it comes to selection, as the choices include almost entirely obscure, unknown boutique wines. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just that the wine seems to not hold up to the asking prices. Recently I tried one of their reds for around $35. The cork was rotten at the base and the wine all cloudy. They happily replaced the bottle with another, but it was exactly the same. Cloudy with sediment at the bottom and a rotten cork. It was drinkable, albeit a bit sour tasting (didn't want to go back again). I also had a random white from their cooler case, and it was without any detectable tannins, no oak, no butter, but plenty of water. This was the most watery, neutral bottle of wine I've ever had. It couldn't possibly insult anyone, and I thought it might go well with a briny, cucumbery raw oyster, but not anything good for sipping on its own. I am admittedly prone to shopping the big box wine shops, drawn to familiarity and safety. Perhaps if I was half the wine snob I sometimes pretend to be, I would see far more of a jewel in Buzz.

Small Dog, Big Bite For how much square footage this place has, it really does utilize its space well. Although I cannot speak to the wine selection, I can definitely tell you I have never seen such a greater bottled craft beer selection in LA (yes, even better than BevMo). They have an area with a huge selection of single craft bombers from Belgium and Germany. New to beer? All good. Each beer, similar to Bevmo, has a short description of where it's from, how much alcohol content and just a brief background about the beer on the tab so that you can navigate your way through the craze. Start slow and be aware of ABV! Some can get as high as 19%. Yum.

    So much wine

Such a great experience. With COVID, Buzz does a fantastic job of requiring its patrons & employees to wear masks. We were assisted by Alphonso, who was VERY knowledgeable about all the wines, he assisted us with finding wines that were organic & vegan. I highly recommend this place! Whether you're just learning wines or you have a seasoned palette, you will find some incredible wines here! Prices are reasonable, and there are also some high end items as well.

Please don't show up anywhere near 2am, telling them you already know what you wanna buy. "We're closing early" is gonna be the response.

UPDATE: I am updating my rating to 3 stars purely based on how management handled my situation…read more Shortly after my initial negative experience, Amar reached out to me directly. He was highly professional, apologized for the unacceptable service, assured me he had spoken to the staff so it wouldn't happen again, and went out of his way to completely cover the cost of my order. It takes a lot for a business to own their mistakes and make it right, and I really appreciate that ownership actually cares about their customers. ORIGINAL EXPERIENCE: Do not order delivery directly from their website. I originally placed an order online for a couple beers and two bottles of liquor, and despite living only 2.8 miles away, I was called by an employee named Angelo who told me it would take 4 hours to deliver. When I expressed frustration, he offered zero compensation or alternative solutions. He claimed there was "no manager" to speak to, and told me to just go use DoorDash or Grubhub instead because nobody wanted to drive a moped less than 3 miles. It is incredibly frustrating when a business takes your money for an advertised service, refuses to fulfill it, and then tells you to go pay extra fees on a third-party app. Overall, I'm giving 3 stars because Amar's excellent response and accountability balanced out Angelo's initial terrible service.

Unfortunately I had to leave after the first 10 minutes due to feeling uncomfortable, disrespected, and insulted by a female working at the bar. The female bar tender who was outside with the black hair and pig tails should NOT WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. She was extremely rude & condescending. I would understand if it was the end of the day and the staff was tired but it was an hour into the event, it wasn't packed yet, so there was no line at the bar. I walked up to the empty bar to get a drink and ask a question about where to order food & she snapped at me accusing me of cutting in line and told me, " to get inline behind everyone else trying to get a drink" I turn around confused bc everyone behind me is clearly turned away from the bar watching the soccer game. Thinking it was my mistake I APOLOGIZE to her & turn around to look for a line again but like I said the bar was CLEARLY not busy so I POLITELY asked her where does the line start and she proceeds to SCREAM @ me and speak to me like I'm a child & points to all the people behind me who are standing and looking AWAY from the bar. Stating "ALLLL those people behind you are waiting inline for a drink." I'm 27 this is not my 1st time at a bar. I know I walked up to an empty bar & she gaslit me into looking for a line THREE TIMES during that one interaction. I'm over feeling gas lit and leave the bar w/o a drink. Once I walked away from the bar I thought I might see "one of the many people who I cut inline" go up to the bar and get a drink but no one else went up to the bar after I left. She was so rude. I got uncomfortable & decided to leave and take my money and party of 8 people to another bar next door. I use to work in customer service so i understand it can be a pain in the ass but when I'm coming at you respectfully as a customer and your demeanor continues to be hostile throughout the entire interaction there's a problem. As an establishment owner I would hate to have someone like that working for me. This can't be the fist time this terrible employee treats customers like this. I can only imagine how much money this bitter employee is costing this establishment.

All about the Boomtown Brewery!…read more This Arts District favorite is a beat away from Union Station where I typically make my way over from to enjoy all the good good that Boom has to offer. Located on Jackson Street between N Vignes Street and Center Street (but actually on the corner on Vignes) you can find local street parking throughout the area, but nothing beats a train ride or a ride share to enjoy responsibly. Always have a great time here on the inside or their long patio with flat screens outdoors (as well as in) to catch the latest events. DJs always spinning the best beats. The brewery where the make the magic is pretty spacious yet intimate. Was able to go on a tour here and learn more about the ins and outs. The taproom is stellar for group hangs and socials. Pool tables, photo booth, arcade style games, loungey area, communal seating, and local food vendors who come out and serve up great eats. Not as many vegan friendly spot, though the few that are on select days and times are pretty solid. If you're an IPA enthusiasts they have at least 6 on the rotation including the Nose Job (7% abv) and a personal fav. Their Hydration Break WC IPA, is a little more of India Pale Ale punch (7.4%), but you can't go wrong with any. Flights are still a recommend if you want to feel out the variety. For Hard Seltzer lovers, you've got the Frosty Fresco or Al Fresco. Fruit Snacks Lager is surprisingly epic as is the Brett Michael's Blonde Sour. I do miss some of their more seasonals such as the red lager aka Part-Time Lover but do enjoy all that's on the rotation. You can pop in for events like Friday Karaoke, Tuesday Taproom Trivia or Open Mic Mondays. Book a private event for all style of events. Family and pet friendly until 7pm. Beer and wine packages available with up to 300 person capacity. No matter the day... Still come for the beer, stay for the cheer. Take in the rustic decor, artsy vibes outdoors.
