We ran into this place by chance (found parking space) and were happy with the price and service. They open at 8 and close at 6 and you can bring rental back by 10am if you want a day off. Later I learned that with coupon, you can get similar price at ski base at lionshead, but overall we were very happy with Buzz's service. We had been to Vail several times before and rented our ski gears from various local shops. This year we stayed at Vail for 8 days. A local Airbnb guy highly recommended that we go to Buzz's Ski Shop, which is a half block away from the Gandola. It turned out to have been a truly wonderful experience. Buzz is a legend at Vail. With his four decades of being in the ski business, his knowledge about skiing and ski gears are unparalleled. His daughter Sarah had been representing US Ski Team in four Winter Olympics. His son Hunter was recruited into US Ski Team at the age of 18. The staff are very knowledgeable too. Believe it or not you can actually walk into this place and meet a guy named Buzz. These guys love to ski and it shows. If you aren't into the mega chain ski shop experience this is one of the few real skiers shops left in Vail. The entry way has a trophy case bursting with ski racing medals. (Buzz's daughter Sarah is a two time Olympian). This place is about skiing. The prices are fair and service is friendly. They set my family up on great demo skis and actually took the time to get them in the right boots so they could enjoy their time on the mountain. By the end of the week they were on a first name basis with all the guys in the shop. Thanks Buzz. We'll be back. read more

These guys are great -- I had a binding issue twice this year, and they tinkers with the bindings to find the real problem. Even though it wasn't obvious -- they spent extra time to make sure I wasn't going to leave with a broken binding. You get the sense they are actual humans who want to do right by their customers -- maybe it's the local flavor, but it was refreshing none the less. Possibly the best retail experience I have ever had. Family of six rented for six days. Never one request they did not meet cheerfully. No frowns, no attitudes, just smiles. We rented two ski sets and a snowboard set. The skies they said were the latest trial, but nothing impressive just more expensive. The ski boots were a nightmare. First getting the right size was freaking mission. At the end, after about 30 minutes of trying boots we became uncomfortable and took what fit but was not right. To get into both sets of boots was very difficult and painful. After getting into them, they were loose and far from premium. The only saving grace was that the snowboarding boots were also very tight and uncomfortable and they easily changed them. The snowboarder felt better. However, we will never rent here again. It didn't really matter the owner is nice. The fact we were not pros and were being treated like nubbies. I was totally uncomfortable. read more

I have rented from these guys for three years of trips to Vail - they are great! Very personable and helpful. They let me switch my board out from day to day based on conditions or if I just want to try something new out. They'll take your feedback, adjust your bindings - basically do what it takes to make sure you are and continue to be set up for a great trip. You can leave your gear with them overnight, like a ski valet - they are conveniently located just below the Vistabahn. Also, unlike a lot of rental places, I get a pretty hefty discount on a board-only rental when I bring my own boots. These guys have my business for all future trips. read more

Not sure if the people who wrote the other reviews on here are employees of Buzz's or if they are dillusionial but this place might have some of the worst customer service I've experienced in vail in my life. I live in Vail 50% of my time so I know all the retail spots in town and employees. If you want any recommendations or advise don't ask him because he will take the time to blow his own horn and totally ignore the customer. No advise just a chance to say how great he is and how he knows everything. How about asking about the customers preference or experience so he can adjust the equipment accordingly? I know the answer, that would make them actually listen to someone but himself and that's impossible. Not to mention if you are a repeat customer, I've bought $1000's of $ worth of items and had my board worked on there many times as well, they act like you have never been in before. Not sure how they lasted this long acting this way, I guess ripping people off in Vail works for them. Or there are not that great of options in town. Simply because I've gone to Buzz's Boards for years because they've proven themselves the best shop in Vail, I decided to see on Yelp if others are as happy with Buzz's and Buzz--- and the guys who work with him--- as I am. Which is why I was surprised to see the one bad review. I guess it's not impossible for one customer to have a bad experience, but everything this guy wrote was totally inconsistent with every experience I've ever had there, which makes me wonder two things: 1) did he get the name of the shop wrong, and 2) when he wrote his review, what was he smoking?!? So let me list the reasons why I've happily used Buzz's for so long: 1) they know me every time I walk in the door and greet me like an old friend, 2) they've never failed to solve whatever problems I've taken in to fix, 3) their prices are better than anything I've seen anywhere else around Vail, 4) I have a monoski which needs servicing as a sort of combination ski and snowboard, and these guys know their stuff, and 5) did I mention how homey it is and how friendly they are? Look, whatever the motive of the guy who wrote the sour review, look at the other reviews, including mine--- and I am not part of the staff, not part of the family, not part of the circle of friends. I'm just a satisfied customer, and believe me, I'm not easy to satisfy. In other words, it's not easy getting five stars from me. Buzz's earns them. read more
