Buzz's Roost is located right on the boardwalk in Carolina Beach. They have a bar area, inside and outside seating. Very casual, as you would expect. A lot of the restaurants on the boardwalk are just okay. Buzz's Roost actually exceeded my expectations. The menu is wide ranging with sandwiches, wraps, wings, tacos, salads and some more expensive entries. Recommend the Angry Ahi Tuna Tacos. Calamari is also good. I only remember beer in cans, no drafts. Correct me if I am wrong. They did have local beers on the menu. Full bar as well, but never tried anything other than beer. Highly recommend.

Stopped by this afternoon for a late lunch, and decided on the Low Country Boil. The bartender was great, attentive and checked on me periodically. The food wasn't as great as I had hoped. I ordered the boil with Old Bay, but it was pretty plain and the flavor was either washed out in the boil, or there was livery little added to begin with. The boil came out with 3 small crab clusters, this was more than I expected, but I soon discovered why that may have been. The crab was steamed a little too long and all the meat stuck to the inside of the shell, making it hard to separate and enjoy. I found myself using the crab fork to scrape it out of the shells. I know crab is a lot of work, but the tiny legs made it even more so with hardly any meat. The shrimp was great, about 5 medium shrimp in the boil. No trace of Old Bay, but the cocktail sauce worked. The sausage was not good, it had a very meaty taste to it with no seasonings. Potatoes were not boiled, but roasted and seasoned well. Corn was mushy. I'm giving this place a 4 because I know it's off season and the bartender was amazing. But I'll likely try another establishment for a boil in the future.

It was day after Labor Day when we visited(on purpose) and it was dead except for a few tourists and probably less locals. Kitchen was closed but we just stopped in for a drink. Looking around, I don't know if I'd eat here or not. Looked pretty messy in the bar area, no a/c. Had the doors open and a bunch of floor fans going. Barmaid was friendly enough and gave us a good double pour whiskey and ginger. $28 for two drinks. Not too bad for right on beach. No draft beers, only bottles and cans.

Food: Decent "American" menu with seafood, salads, burgers, tacos etc. Pretty tasty but not memorable food. Kitchen closes around ?10pm Bar: Full bar with Cheap drinks and hard working bartenders. Atmosphere: Right on the Carolina Beach boardwalk. Outside and inside seats, they keep the windows open in the summer so it is a little warm. A good mix of locals and tourists, a variety of ages. Later in the night, other bars close and people who want a party vibe pour in here! There's quieter bars nearby if you want to drink a beer without fun energy and loud music. They have Karaoke some nights which is entertaining

I ordered a margarita that tasted soooo sweet despite me asking for no syrup and a splash of strawberry. When I asked for a remake, they made a new one and insisted I pay for the first still which I didn't really drink besides the initial taste. Both drinks were shit. Why bring a second one that taste just as bad and force me to pay for both? At least ask if I'll take a remake in addition to the shit original one. Also oysters are dry and tiny. For a dozen piece they only gave one tiny lemon. DO NOT go to this place: complete regret.

Not much of a boardwalk but we liked this place to stop in for a few drinks and nachos. The bartender, Trish was super friendly. She made me a specialty drink with vodka, coconut rum, cranberry and pineapple that was delicious! The nachos were awesome with melted cheese and beef. Great country music played while we watched a few games in the four TVs above the bar. $30 for two beers, mixed drink and nachos didn't break the bank so gotta like that too!

"Delicious dive on Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday at right around noon. The place is dark and kind-of makes you feel like you're in the bowels of a wooden ship. There's a large bar in the center, and a few tables around it, as well as a few tables outside in the back. We were seated right away. I ordered the hot honey shrimp wrap as well as the pickled veggies appetizer. My dining partner got the quinoa grain and greens bowl with blackened tuna. Our food came out in around 10 minutes. The hot honey shrimp wrap came with french fries, to my surprise (didn't see that mentioned on the menu), which were fine. The wrap itself was DELICIOUS. MAN, that hot honey was SO tasty, and the greens and corn batter on the shrimp really complemented it well. It is a very, very messy dish to eat with your hands, so be prepared, but it's well worth the sacrifice. The pickled veggies were local and very tasty-- also a very good value for $5. My dining partner really liked her bowl and the tuna in it as well. The staff were quite attentive, regularly checking in, filling drinks, and clearing dirty plates. Only caution is that a lot of the batters are corn-based, so be careful if you have that allergy. Overall, would very happily come back-- great in all respects. I recommend highly!

If you're looking for one of those places where everything just lines up--the weather, the food,…read morethe mood--this is it. Out on the pier at Tiki Bar & Ocean Grill, you've got a front-row seat to the Atlantic, and on a day like today, it doesn't get much better. Blue sky, sun hitting the water just right, and a breeze that reminds you why people have been coming to the coast long before fancy resorts showed up. Food Simple answer: they've got it dialed in. Fresh, well-prepared, and exactly what you want at the beach. No overthinking it--just good coastal food done right. That's how it's supposed to be. Service Friendly, easygoing, and attentive without hovering. The kind of service that makes you feel welcome but doesn't interrupt your view--or your drink. Atmosphere This is where they really win. Sitting out over the water with string lights overhead and waves rolling in? That's hard to beat anywhere. Now, yes--the beach itself has those big metal pipes running through for replenishment. Not exactly postcard material. But here's the truth: once you're up on that pier, looking out over the ocean, it barely matters. The view still does what it's supposed to do--makes you slow down and stay a while. Final Take Great food, solid service, and a view that carries the whole experience. Even with the beach work going on, this place delivers what a coastal spot should: good eats, cold drinks, and a reason to sit a little longer than you planned. If the weather's right, don't overthink it--grab a seat, order something simple, and enjoy it the way folks have been doing for generations.

Unfortunately, I feel the food quality has gone downhill while the prices have gone in the opposite direction. The food and drinks are expensive, and based on my experience today, the quality simply doesn't match the price. At this point, I don't feel it's worth what you're paying. The service was also disappointing. Our waitress seemed much more interested in being engaged with her phone than in providing good service or creating a positive experience for her customers. I found her attitude to be somewhat rude and inattentive, which only added to an already disappointing visit. It's unfortunate because I've enjoyed coming here for years, and I really like the location and atmosphere. However, I think I'll be putting my visits on hold for a while. Hopefully, the food quality, service, and pricing will eventually come back into better balance with what customers are actually getting. I'd like to see this place get back to the experience I remember and enjoyed for so many years.

"Seafood and sports bar on main road in Carolina Beach"…read more Stopped here with a group of 5 on a Friday night in summer, drawn in by the signs about all-you-can-eat crab legs. We arrived at 6pm, and waited maybe 20 minutes for a table. When asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor, we said either was fine as long as not full-sun (some tables were full-sun). Sadly, we were placed at one of the full-sun tables initially. Luckily, when we fussed a bit, they got us a table inside. The restaurant is quite large, with a truly indoor area as well as mostly covered outdoor ones-- we were fortunate to get a truly indoor one, since it was quite hot. The menu was a bit eclectic-- seafood dishes, sandwiches, chicken, and burgers, and lots of drinks. I opted for the fish tacos, since that was reasonably priced-- something like $12-15. The AYCE crab legs were $59-- no thanks! I added a side-salad and also got a fried pickle appetizer for the table. It was a Friday night and busy, but I will say service was SLOW and frankly not great. Took us maybe 15 minutes to get asked what we'd like to order. The fried pickles came almost 30 minutes later. And the meal maybe another 15-20 minutes after that. Our server also seemed almost "put off" whenever we asked for anything, too... like basic flatware after our food arrived. He wasn't great with questions either. Though he did check on us a couple of times. Food was pretty good. The fish tacos were tasty, though one person noted that they were rather minimally seasoned and could have been really great with more. The fried dishes were "fine". One thing to note is the portions are HUGE for many dishes-- one of us got the captain's basket or something, and he's a big eater, but this was way more than he could finish. Similarly, one of us who got the chicken tender platter noted it was really, really big. On the one hand, that's good, but on the other, you're also paying the extra price since the prices were also proportionately higher. The fish tacos were a good compromise-- basically the right amount of food for one person and a decent price. The bathroom was not especially clean-- the soap dispenser was broken and on the side, and it looked like the space hadn't been serviced. The doors to the restrooms were also sticky such that they'd sometimes be left propped open. Overall, I'd say this place was OK but definitely could have been better. I liked my food fine, but the service was definitely underwhelming. One exception-- the lady working the bar was very helpful. There are a lot of GREAT restaurants in Carolina Beach, so this one doesn't do great by comparison.

I would describe myself as someone who is pretty chill and gives restaurants a lot of grace, but I…read moream honestly astounded by the experience I had at The Lazy Pirate. We decided to come here for the first day of college football because it is advertised as a sports bar, and we were excited to spend the day here watching the games. When we arrived, all of the TVs were off and no one seemed to be working on getting them started. The staff initially had no idea what was going on. We eventually found out that it was a cable issue that was out of their control, which is completely understandable. It did however take about 30 minutes for them to find an alternate solution by logging into other apps so we could actually watch the games. Once they figured that out, that issue was resolved, and again, I was completely willing to give them grace for something that was not their fault. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning. Our waitress had very little knowledge of the menu and was unable to answer basic questions about which sauces were which, what came with the salad, substitutions, etc. We ordered two baskets of wings for the table, and when they came out, they were in the wrong sauces. It is completely fine to make a mistake, and that alone would not have bothered me. What was frustrating was that the wings were taken away and then completely forgotten about. We had to ask about them approximately 20 minutes later. As a former server, if I had brought a table the wrong food, I would have at least asked if they wanted to keep it while I had the correct order made. We were starving and absolutely would have kept the wings while waiting for the correct ones. My mom also ordered a salad, which took a very long time to come out despite the restaurant being essentially empty. When it finally arrived, it was missing the pita bread, which was pretty much the only reason she ordered that particular salad. We had to ask for the pita, and even that took a while to come out. Then, when we actually looked at the salad, a significant portion of the lettuce was inedible. As pictured, at least four pieces of the iceberg lettuce still had the core attached (and the missing pita). At this point, it was not one isolated mistake. It was a series of issues with communication, service, and attention to detail throughout the meal. I really do try to give restaurants grace, especially when something is outside of their control, but there was just too much that went wrong during this experience. It is especially unfortunate because we are here on a family vacation and were ready to spend the entire day here watching college football and enjoying ourselves. We came specifically because this place is advertised as a sports bar, and we really wanted to have a good experience. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing.
