Ordered my drinks 20 mins before happy hour ended. I ordered a whole round so that it would be easier to charge. Bartender waited exactly to 6:00pm to charge me. Took his time and there weren't even people there. Just one group which placed their order AFTER I did. They were charged earlier. Haven't gone back since and don't plan to. Around November 2018 I tried my first Sangria wine and let me tell you, one glass was not enough. 2 more glasses later, and I knew even though it was delicious, I had to go home and face work the next morning. Well, months later and I was still raving about that drink and I finally went again after 7 months and I was really happy to see Peter still working there. This is a really cute little place in the middle of a crowded glorified food court called the Anaheim Packing District! Now that is not to downplay the Packing District, by any means, because it is a really awesome, eclectic place! But if you're looking for a bit of a fancier, quieter place to grab a drink after dinner, this place is great for that! My main complaint is that there is like... 10 seats in the bar. And a lot of people crowd around the physical bar so getting an order in is very difficult. But their staff is very kind and good at explaining their drinks, they have a great variety of wine and cocktails, as well as a small beer menu which is nice, and the mood is very throwback 60s! It's also really neat to come off the staircase and see an actual boxcar sitting inside the building! read more

How many times have you written a review about a bar you've been to, but didn't order a drink? Zero? Exactly. Guess what? My boyfriend and I made our way into the inviting atmosphere of BXCR, with a drink already in hand, plus full bellies. We encountered David, and like rookies with no common sense, asked what BXCR stood for. DUH. Had we really started checking out the decorations, we likely wouldn't have sounded so lame. David was super nice. He could have chosen to ignore us, do something else while on the clock, etc.., but instead, went out of his way to make us feel welcome, tell us about the Boxcar, explain the set-up, talk further about the Packing House, to where I literally shaked his hand upon leaving and will make a point to not only come back soon, but to ask for him, and leave a generous tip. An easy, nonfussy, low key joint that transports you to ye olden times with a dope ass redecorated box car and tasty drinks. Dunno about you folks, but I appreciate a bar where I can get a tasty stiff drink, the bartender will adjust to your requests, and hell, will even pour you one before they officially open if you've dropped off your mom at the airport and are just killing time (check, check, and check). With all of the craft beer that has become so popular in Orange county we were really lacking and needing a local nearby spot to enjoy wine. I prefer the wine to beer but be not afraid there is also some beer on tap here. This place has a fantastic design aesthetic that grabs your attention right away. The concept is freaking adorable and it is well executed. All of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I have even been to a wine tasting event here hosted by one of the female sommeliers. Very informative and interesting to taste a new group of wines along with tapas pairings to go with it was a fun and inexpensive evening out. Every time we come we taste new and tasty wines and if you are curious about one they will let you have a taster sip. All in all a fabulous addition to the Anaheim packing house and to the whole area! read more

Came to check out the packing district for the first time. Landed at this place first. Their chef wasn't here, so I couldn't try the food, but would fix that later. But the wine, conversation, and atmosphere, incomparable. Had a great time. I couldn't eat, but was welcome to bring outside food and enjoy to make up for it. Scott, the bartender who was actually a certified sommelier, chose my wine with just basic requirements. 5 of the 6 were amazing. Zero complaints. He's the man. Heaven sent. We stopped by here after dinner at Umami one evening and it was already pretty late. I asked when they closed and they gave me a "wink wink" closing time so we sat down and enjoyed a few glasses of wine. We never felt rushed even when all the other shops started closing and the lights in the Packing House started to dim. I asked the server to recommend something along the lines of a Shiraz or Malbec for my husband and his friend. I prefer more mellow reds so I went with their Cab Franc. The recommendations were spot on and Naomi (our server) checked in on us and had more recommendations for the next time we come back. This is definitely a more chill spot - which you don't see much of at the Packing House (I mean, have you seen that crazy line for Popbar?!). It's definitely a great addition to the area and really rounds out the vibe. read more

This place had a rustic old time vibe, with chess and checkers game tables, that anyone in the bar could play. The bartenders were extremely friendly, eager to help or just make you laugh. They were knowledgeable about many different kinds of wine and very welcoming. I enjoyed talking with them about different types of wines they sold, and I never once felt like they were being too pushy or "know-it-all's," (that I sometimes encounter with my little knowledge of wine). What a great intimate spot! So much to observe in its unique "boxcar" setting. The selections of wine are really good and price is not cheap, but the taste is quality. I've been here a few times and every single time has delivered great service. I recommend sitting in the higher chairs or the bar. I'm kind of tall and the Lowe seating areas feel uncomfortable. I really feel like I have been taken back to the Napa inn when I come here. Look forward to more visits! read more

Not bad, I felt like a spring moscato sangria kind of mood and though they didn't have that I had a Riesling that was pretty good. Hummus which was ok. I visited BXCR the same night I went to Urbana when the live band was playing. Luckily the sound of the band didn't play as loud here, so we were able to enjoy ourselves without having to literally shout over the music. There is a plethora of wines to choose from. The lady working was very knowledgeable on the wines and did a good job of suggestions based on each of our personal preferences. I chose the white wine flight (I think it was the Alpine?) and it was f*ckn great. We also ordered the charcuterie plate which we all agreed was pretty decent. They also allow you to bring food from other places which was a plus cause I really wanted some clam chowder from Kettlebar. One cool thing about BXCR are the chess/checkers tables. None of us knew how to play so we just sat on the bar stools. Before my next visit, I'm going to try to learn how to play some chess! read more

So I visited BXCR at a recent Elite event at the Packing House. A big thank you to BXCR for inviting us to come by and sample a wine! LOCATION & AMBIANCE (Rating 4.75) While this place is small, there's an extremely inviting allure about it. Maybe it's because I'm a wine snob, I don't know.. but I loved the place. The bar is close enough to all the seating that the waitresses can keep a close eye on you easily. The "Wall O Wine" keeps you drooling the whole time you're there and gives a good reason to come back as there are tons to choose from SERVICE (Rating 4) The event did not give me a chance to sit down and truly enjoy the atmosphere and service so my rating of 3.5 I'm confident is not a good measure of there typical service rating, but it's all I have to go on for now. So I'll be sure to visit again to update the review. read more

The packing house is an awesome spot, a lot of cool vendors and food. The two of us were walking around exploring and had some drinks from another vendor. We walked by and thought this place looked interesting so we sat down and grabbed a menu to look at what they had, no sooner had we sat down to see what this place was about when the waitress came over and asked with a bottle and pen in hand "are you going to buy a bottle of wine? Technically these seats are for customers only" The packing house was packed as it was Saturday night and this wine bar was EMPTY, the waitress was incredibly rude and that is no way to bring in new customers. We don't know if we would have liked this place but they won't have to worry about us coming back. read more

I used to absolutely love this place, with the addition of a full liquor license and a turnover in staff however that is no longer the case. They took what was a great concept and wine bar and tried to make it something it is not. They have destroyed the wine list and the "red and white" lines on the wall. I wanted to come in for a nice glass of wine on a Sunday afternoon, I unfortunately had to sit through a DJ in Cooks Chapel and the packing house live music playing at the same time. NAIOMI IS GONE!!!! I have been a member of BXCR for almost two years and I loved it so much. I moved out of the area, over 40 miles away and I would still make it a point to come down for the pick up party because I loved it so much. When Andi left I was so sad because she was so sweet but Naomi was just as welcoming and sweet. Her and Leigha were really the heart and soul of this place. I visited in October and the place was the same welcoming place as always with smiles ... when I went back in December I got the complete opposite experience. The new staff is inexperienced not only in wine but in customer service. When I asked for a specific wine, they were out ... I asked for another one... out again. Now the new manager..... I cannot believe that someone like this could run a wine bar or any establishment. Maybe it was because it was her first pick up party or because the bar was full from people having a wedding in the chapel but she was not attentive nor welcoming. As a member we are given our monthly wines, 20% off purchases, and a pick up party which included a light snack and two glasses of wine (full pours) at $3. Just the perks of making the commitment to them... well according to the new manager all that is different because "they were not making enough money". That is not the way you talk to customers, you're taking my monthly fees so I expect what I signed up for. Not only did it take her 30 minutes to come to my table but she was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. When I asked where everyone was (the old staff) she said she was the new manager and was trying "new things out". I expressed that I was irritated that it took 30 minutes for her to come to my table and she said "I was behind the bar talking to people" .... I have been a manager before and when someone complained I tried my best to fix the situation not sit and chat for 30 minutes. As for the changes to the membership I told her that I did not receive an email or a call regarding the changes and that I was not happy with it. She decided to discount my wine, as if she was doing me a favor. She followed up by saying that if more people complained she'd change it back.... so essentially my money and my opinion does not matter to management... not that type of service that any business should offer, especially to established members. I had brought a friend along with me to try the wine bar that I so much talked about and was so embarrassed. She was surprised that a place had a manager that rude. It is really sad to see such a great wine bar go down the drain and loose customers because of the poor staffing choices. I really wanted to give it another chance but after that treatment I cannot allow my money to be tossed in the trash. Maybe in a few months when Leigha comes back I can try it again... but I doubt it. I would suggest looking into real wineries for a tasting experience, Temecula is 90 minutes away and also have wine clubs that ship to your home. read more

I adore this place. It is very cute and the decor is beautifully done with the idea of a train car. Seats are limited since it is a small place. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I've been here a few times and I've had mixed experiences. This review is for the last time that I came here with my husband. It left enough of an impression that it will be the last time we come. My husband and I came here because we ordered a sandwich from Black Sheep upstairs in the Packing House. They had a special going on in which you were supposed to get a discount on a glass of wine if you brought your sandwich. Yeah, we didn't get it. I'm not sure what his name is, but the middle-aged male staff member with long hair pulled back in a ponytail was the one that "served" us and he gave probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a wine bar. He looked at my husband as if he were a nuisance and was bothering him by ordering a glass of wine. He then had the audacity to pour him our wine in a plastic cup! I can't believe how unbelievably rude this was. It was as if we were not knowledgeable, sophisticated, or worthy enough to be drinking wine from them. My husband had to ask him to pour our wine in a glass instead. We may not know a lot about wine but I do know it is not supposed to be served in a plastic cup. Honestly, sorry BXCR, save your time and money and go have a better experience across the street to Pali Wine Co. We went over there after right after this happened and had a great experience, felt welcomed, and enjoyed more than one glass of wine. read more

Came here yesterday for the first time with my husband because I noticed that they added cocktails to their menu. Well, I think the best part of my time their was playing chess and the friendliness of this establishment. Drinks were such a bummer. I think unfortunately the bartender doesn't know how much lime is too much lime. My side car which I've had on several occasions was so sour! I couldn't even drink it. So I was like alright poor choice, I'll get something different. Got a Moscow Mule, equally disappointing! What is with all the lime?? Plus, I'm not expecting to get drunk, but my expectations of any bartender and any drink is it should taste like there's some alcohol in here. I love this place! It's by an entrance to the downstairs portion of the Packing House - so it's a little quieter and more relaxed. They have some appetizers to choose from that you can munch on while you sip, too! I chose to get a wine flight, since a lot of the wines I wasn't familiar with. I got the "Caboose" flight - 3 pours of different cabernets. Definitely recommend. The pours are generous and the flavors are spot on. Naomi was an awesome waitress! She even swung by after we took our first couple sips to ask how we liked everything. She's definitely knows her wine and was very sweet. They have a Happy Hour and a special on Tuesdays! Their website says they're open beginning at 12. I took off a day, looked forward to a wine flight and their cheeseboard, and planned my entire day around visiting this place and even waited around for a few hours to see if they would open, and they didn't. The surrounding restaurants and workers seemed confused as to why they were not open. I ended up at Urbana (across the way in the Packing House) and enjoyed their wine and cauliflower tacos (highly recommend!). THEN, I went back two days later in the evening for BXCR's cheeseboard as dinner and wine flights, even brought my husband (I really wanted this place) - they were sure to be open then, right? They were, however, "THEY WEREN'T SERVING FOOD!" WHAT? The man with a pony tail (didn't get his name) brushed us off rudely, was not apologetic at all, and his response to why their hours on their website were wrong was: "Oh, someone must not have changed that." Passing the blame. I was so disappointed. We left. I will never go there again. Urbana received us a second time with loving and open arms. I will visit Urbana again and again. read more
