Upon arrival you are greeted by a nice young man with seasons greetings. Put us in the holiday spirit. With validation we paid around $5. Great since it is in the city. We ordered the French toast with peaches, which leaned more toward slices of wonder bread with only a hint of peach flavor. The standout was the single-serve real Vermont maple syrup, which definitely helped. I had tea, and it felt worth the price -- it was loose leaf, not bagged, and generous enough to serve more than one person. My mom ordered eggs with potatoes and bacon and really enjoyed it; everything was cooked exactly to her liking. My husband had the vegetable omelette with potatoes. It was fine, but the overall experience felt very corporate and somewhat overpriced -- not surprising given the location and the fact that not much is open on Christmas morning. Service started off strong. Our original server was wonderful but had to leave for Christmas Mass, which was completely understandable. Unfortunately, the gentleman who took over never checked on our table. My mom eventually waved to another server (which I hate doing), and I was close to getting up myself to ask for help. Thankfully, the server who stepped in was exceptionally kind and attentive, which helped recover the moment. I had a morning flight into ATL & dined with my husband at By George for breakfast earlier this month (Nov 2025). We had a table reservation but decided upon arrival to sit at the bar in lieu of taking a table. I ordered the chicken & sweet potato waffle with turkey sausage subbed in for the bacon. I asked for the peach bourbon glaze to be set on the side, instead of poured over the chicken, and am glad I did because the glaze flavor was not to my liking. I rec the maple syrup instead! Nestled on the first floor of the Candler Hotel in downtown Atlanta, By George is surrounded by stunning architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the style and art deco glamour really transports you to a different era. The fine dining restaurant has a locally sourced menu and the food is quite delicious. My colleague and I had reservations for a Thursday afternoon (although I'm sure they take walk-ins) and it was so beautiful! I was immediately taken aback by the decor. We were seated and took a look at the menu. I automatically knew once I saw the cornbread that I had to have it! The cornbread came warm with a jelly and butter, and it was absolutely delicious! Typing this up, I now want some. Service was top-tier. Our waitress was super sweet. I opted for the salmon and my colleague opted for the trout which were equally delicious! Like any fine dining restaurant it always looks like it's not enough and you end up being absolutely full! Service was good, but the food was just "ok"... the Burger for Sunday brunch was the biggest disappointment!!! Absolutely BASIC, and the staff knew it when it hit my table. It's like I looked at the Burger, looked at them, looked at the burger and when I back at them, they couldn't even look me in the eye... Shame on you for serving this basic burger, your way to upscale for that George's!!!! While staying in the Hotel (different review), we came only for breakfast and brunch to help us jumpstart our days. The first day, I had the omelette and potatoes, which were good but nothing out of the ordinary. We also had the bagels and lox, which I was told was decent but seemed bland. It is definitely convenient to have in the hotel, and the staff does a really good job. However, the food items that we had were just a miss for us, as I was expecting them to be a lot better based on the price point. Cocktails were good, and in the evening, the bar area seemed to be a little bit lively for those staying in the hotel or participating in an event/activity. We decided to just eat at our hotel since we had a long day. It would've been faster to walk a mile down the street. Our waitress checked in often but had no sense of urgency. The food took a long time to be prepared and it was just ok. Definitely "hotel" food at a high price. I didn't get any pictures of our food because my toddler was fed up with the wait. The space is beautiful and the staff was friendly, but the food did not quite measure up. My steak was tougher than expected and the Brussels sprouts lacked seasoning. It was hard to figure out how to get to the valet to park. There are a lot of one way streets that were a bit misleading. Once I found the station I did wait a while for the valet to come around to receive my car. The valet charge was $6 and added to the restaurant bill automatically. Once inside, the hotel is stunning. We had reservations for 11:45 brunch and were seated immediately. The restaurant did fill up throughout our time there. We started with the pastry basket (but forgot to take pictures). You can change up its contents to your liking. We had two raspberry and cheese danishes, a double chocolate muffin, and a blueberry muffin. They were all very good. I ordered the lobster roll with the romaine salad on the side. I am a sucker for a Caesar with anchovies and this salad did not disappoint. The lobster roll was just ok. The bread was charred and I did not enjoy the burnt flavor it had so I just ate the lobster meat out of it. My friend had the avocado toast and she really enjoyed it. It was a very nice brunch, however I do not think I would recommend the lobster roll. read more

I really wanted the restaurant, but my recent experience left me feeling underwhelmed and frustrated. I stayed at the Candler Hotel, which has one Michelin Key. I expected their restaurant to live up to that standard. The ambiance of the restaurant was modern and spacious. It was not too crowded on a Saturday night. I was hungry and ready to try some delicious food. We ordered crab cakes to share and ordered lamb, Brussels sprouts, and scallops. The one thing that threw me off was I ordered the lamb porterhouse medium rare, but was mistakenly served a piece of pork chop instead. Honest mistakes happen, but it took about 15 minutes to finally get the correct dish, and by then, everything else was already served. The delay definitely put a damper on the meal. When I finally got the lamb, it was a little gamey and the temperature of the lamb was rare, not medium rare. The Brussels sprouts had a nice crisp texture, but they were lacking in flavor. It definitely could use more seasoning. I enjoyed the 3 small pieces of scallops that were served. The server did try to make up for the earlier mishap by comping a carrot cake, but I felt the situation could have been handled with a bit more care and communication. For the price point and reputation, I expected much better attention to detail and service. I'm giving three stars, but honestly, it was closer to a two-star experience for me. I appreciate the fact they admitted to fault and quickly fixed their mistake, but I don't know if they redeemed themselves. read more

This place is a total vibe. Super clean, elegant but not stuffy. I think I had one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had in my life, the rigatoni bolognese. I don't usually get pasta bc of my tummy hurting but it didn't hurt at all! The staff was super kind, even helping us determine what foods we may like. Drinks really good too, lots of variety. Stopped in for a night cap at the bar while I was staying in the hotel. The bar tenders were very nice and had great recommendations. Tried a bourbon based drink and a French 75. Also picked up dessert the crème brûlée was very good! I grabbed some meatballs as well and they were tasty. I would come back to have dinner here for sure even if I wasn't staying in the hotel. Very beautiful decor as well. They have live band on Friday and Saturday I saw so it would be nice to catch that. read more

I had expected so much more based on its locations We only came for drinks and found the bar to be very nice. There isn't a lot of seating and people were saving spots so we sat on a couch. There were 7 guests and 3 bartenders so service should be quick. Nope. He did bring menus over quickly but then went back to talking to the other bartenders. Finally came and took our order. Again, chatting with the other bartenders instead of making our drinks. Drinks are served in chilled glasses which was nice, but the glasses are small for the price of the martini. Not the best lemon drop I have had. Maybe 2 more guests arrived, but our bartender never came back over to see if we wanted another drink and I had to stand up and wave to get his attention to bring our check. The food is very good and not too high of a price. I love the environment in there. It's very nice in there but if you go at night time, you are getting blinded by the surrounding street lights I found so maybe it's best to visit during the day. that's the only complaint I have the hotel that the restaurant is located in is very historical and beautiful. Wow, I think unfortunately we ordered the two worst options for brunch. Chicken and waffles? More like sweet and sour chicken meets school cafeteria nuggets, all it's missing is the pork fried rice. Surely this cannot be the same meal others have had. Just looking at my picture and others with the same meal, either the chefs got lazy or they had to substitute this chicken for soggy cafeteria food. The eggs benedict instead of using traditional Canadian bacon, used charcuterie prosciutto which added unnecessary salty taste. We did try two MUCH better options, the Croque Madame is excellent (not sure why they didn't use this same ham on the benedict), and the biscuits and gravy (nice gravy but a little on the thinner side for me). read more

The ambience is beaux arts with tall marble pillars and crystal chandeliers. Everything is accented in gold. The food is contemporary American. I enjoyed the arugula salad with salmon. Beautiful building! Service lackluster. Eggs requested soft scrambled came back hard and brown on bottom. Sent back and brought back browned clumps of eggs mixed with yolk. Whoever is in kitchen does not know how to scramble eggs. It's not a brunch restaurant just a restaurant that serves it more so probably for hotel guests as there's nothing chef-esque about it. She had great knowledge of the menu, was very receptive to our questions, and was overall very helpful. The ambiance of the restaurant gave "fancy business meeting" but this place is definitely a place to try for dates, anniversaries, etc. The Location: Located inside the Historical Candler Hotel. If you valet, they will validate it for you at no charge. The food: The buttermilk muffins are GREAT when warm... The lamb chops are small in serving size but packed with flavor... I was never a fan of a hotel restaurant, but this is truly an exception! Parking is a little challenging, but the food options are good. The lobster roll was delicious although a little small. The fries were very crispy with a slight seasoning, but a little reminiscent of Burger King. I enjoyed the lobster roll with the hints of lemon. I don't like making negative reviews, but feel compelled to do so after our experience. The cheese board was laughable (7 Keebler crackers with cubed cheese, all of which were unevenly cut). Meatballs were cold. Filet was analogous to O'Charleys sirloin and so tough. Sautéed spinach was barely wilted and a salt bomb (coming from a person who likes heavily-seasoned food). Three people at our table ordered the filet: one of which was grilled, the other pan seared, and the third both pan seared and grilled. I kid you not. I don't get why the rating isn't higher. In a nutshell, food was really good, ambience was nice, and the server was very friendly. Ordered the Tagliolini primavera, shrimp & grits, heirloom tomato and buratta, and steak (forget which piece) with truffle fries. There's no need to specifically describe each dish, because everything was just REALLY good. From the fries (can't taste the truffle though) to even the bread that came with the tagliolini, everything was perfect. My favorite was the shrimp & grits--loved the creaminess.
