DO NOT consider this business. I went for a consultation. Office submitted request to ins co…read more Office called and said it was approved, what I had to pay upfront and made my appt. Few weeks later they send me a bill for $4000.00!!! Said the work done was NOT covered by ins. Got a notice that if it was not paid they will send to collections. Corp said local can stop it. Local said corp is the only one to do that. Ended up having to get a loan to pay. They can charge you whatever they want without your prior approval.

STAY AWAY 20 years…read moreago I worked in "admissions" for a for-profit college. I had a background in education and did not realize I was simply becoming a salesperson. Just like for-profit colleges are not real colleges, Aspen Dental is not a real dentist office, it is not a medical facility, it is a used car dealership selling you unnecessary dental care at shockingly high prices. I am not a regular dentist visitor. I go every few years. I brush twice a day. I floss regularly, I use antibacterial mouthwash. Every time I've visited a dentist they did a checkup and cleaned my teeth. Some attempted to sell me tooth whitening, some attempted to sell me invisible braces, but all of them provided basic medical care. My visit today was a rushed process. The dental hygienist started talking about a "deep clean" before she ever looked at my mouth. She rushed through an odd ceremony of calling out numbers while poking my gums. The dentist came in and half heartedly looked at my teeth while talking again about a "deep clean". I have actual tooth pain and he couldn't be bothered to go to the left side of my face to look at the tooth that was hurting. Everything would be solved by this magical "deep clean". Oh, and the hygienist and dentist never made an effort to position themselves so I could actually see their face while they were talking to me. Then the office manager came in. She took me to her desk to discuss this "deep clean". This is where I found out it was going to cost me $1400 AFTER insurance. I asked for just a regular clean and was told no. So I walked out. It was nothing but a sales job under the moniker of a dental office. I don't think the people in this office are evil. I have worked in high pressure sales before. They have a quota. They have to sell us "medical care". They are kind, but they are also stressed by corporate pressure to the extent they cannot care about the patient. Do the office staff a favor: STAY AWAY Go to a real dentist who will provide you real care. Utilize the free market so this place shuts down and the kind people who work there can get jobs at facilities that actually provide care instead of fleecing people who need help.

Actuary the dentist was great. I had an extraction with little if any pain…read morein no time at all. What has me angry now is that the office was in my network in 2025 but apparently not full the full year. Oh, the receptionist was rude. Not both of them but the one who checked me in was nasty. So... In the past I paid less than $100 since I has dental insurance but this time... wait a minute... The bill came to $244 as my responsibility. How much would it hurt to let patience know the coverage change? If I need more dental work, it won't be at this office.

I had an incredible experience with Dr Koterwas. Interesting to see so many negative reviews…read morebecause of a receptionist. I had been dealing with an off and on wisdom tooth pain since before Christmas. It finally returned not going away. After recommendation of coworkers I called up Dr Koterwas office on a Thursday. I was able to secure an appt 4 days later on Tuesday. This was an absolute positive. When I was a child, I had 2 teeth removed at once for braces. It was a traumatic experience as I was not fully numbed and the Dr did not care and continued, with me fully feeling much pain. This left me very anxious for this apt. I arrived at 1:45pm for my 2:00pm apt with my paperwork prefilled out and previously taken X-rays. I was taken back at 2:05 and mouth swabbed. Dr Koterwas came in at 2:10 and went over the procedure. He numbed the wisdom tooth with several needle sticks which were painless. At 2:25 he returned and asked if I felt numb which replied I was. He got right to it and in a min or 2. The culprit wisdom tooth was out! Zero pain! And I immediately felt relief in my mouth in general. I was given instructions and on my way, leaving at 2:35pm. Literally 30 min in and out! I hope not to have any more teeth pulled but should I need to, I will B-Line it to Dr Koterwas!! I highly recommend him.

I have moved several times in the last 10 years and have been searching for a good dentist in the…read moreHagerstown area. Because finding a good dentist is very important to me - I wanted to make an apt with more than one and compare. I have to say, I am very glad I chose Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care as one of them. These are the Pro points: 1) Ample parking close to the building 2) Very easy to get to, and not a lot of traffic to wrestle with - getting in and out of the parking area 3) Building is Huge, VERY clean and patients are seen in individual offices - so you have privacy to talk to your dentist, etc. 4) When I came in, I was immediately seen by a very nice person who took me to a small reception room where we filled out my information together and I was able to talk to her about exactly what I wanted to have done (I wanted digital panoramic X-rays which I wanted emailed to myself, and I wanted a no pressure consult for a treatment plan) - This meeting with what i'll call their "Welcoming Person" was very comfortable and unusual, in that I have not ever experienced this before - VERY nice touch! PLUS, they had a little welcoming bag with several small dental gifts inside - I continued to be very nicely impressed. 5) Immediately after the welcoming/informational meeting, I was taken to a very clean office where I would await the Dentist. I was prepared to sit in the Dental chair and read - I brought a book - but it wasn't necessary, as my Dentist (Dr. Brandy Behrens) came in w/in one minute of my getting into the dental chair and getting comfy. She was VERY nice and took the time to really look at the x-ray, my teeth, and truly listen to what I felt i needed. I explained I knew my teeth were in very bad shape - and I was going to need a 2 step plan as I could not afford to have everything done at once. She understood - and did not pressure me to take out loans, charge the work on my credit card, etc, etc. This also, was very refreshing and i felt very honest. I NEVER felt rushed - AT ALL - which really made me feel relaxed and not under any pressure about anything. Dr. Behrens and I discussed solutions and she said she would email me my Dental plan along with my x-rays. 6) I then went to the lobby/reception area and paid my bill ($39.00) 7) When I returned home, all of the info and the x-ray was there in my e-mail - just as they promised. ** In conclusion, there was not one negative thing that occurred, OR that I noticed during my visit. Everyone was polite, cheerful and seemed genuinely happy to talk to you and have you visit. I was never left alone - as I have been in every other dental office i've been to in the last 10 years - Usually i'm handed paperwork by the person at the front desk who barely seems to notice that i'm a human being, and many times seems annoyed to have to bother with me. ** I honestly cannot think of one thing that Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care, could have done any better than they did - therefor, i have no "Cons" Listing. I know I will be returning to Dr. Behrens and this Dental center many times - and I am actually looking forward to it. My Thanks Dr. Behrens and and everyone who works there!
