    Byrds Hash
    Sasha B.

Byrd's is the kind of place that makes you want to come back before you've even left. I ordered the Byrd's Hash with deli corned beef (and yes--real corned beef, not the canned stuff!). The home fries, onions, and bell peppers were perfectly grilled together, topped with two eggs just the way I like them, and served with my choice of bread. You could taste the freshness in every bite--absolutely amazing. My husband got the shrimp and grits, and let me tell you... I almost ditched my own plate to steal his. As someone who's never had shrimp and grits before, Byrd's set the bar way high. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection--they nailed it. The restaurant doesn't take reservations, just walk-ins, but the wait is 100% worth it. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which just adds to the cozy, down-to-earth vibe. Byrd's is a must-visit--whether you're a local or just passing through, this spot is a winner.

Small but welcoming spot for a delicious breakfast. Wait time can be a bit long due to the popularity of this spot, but the wait is worth it. Service and staff are great here. Food was delicious, pancakes fluffy and my omelette was even more fluffy. My home fries were out of this world. Definitely recommend the home fries. Not open all day, so plan ahead and get there early, you won't regret it.

I have on occasion eaten at Byrds, and it is so popular that generally the wait is just too long and too crowded. So today we took a chance at about 1230pm and had a wait of about 15 minutes . When we were seated and our orders placed it took quite awhile for the food to come out. This is the only reason for taking one star. It was probably 45 minutes waiting for food. In the mean time attentive waitstaff were keeping our drinks refilled. I ordered poutine, which is fries topped with melted cheese and brown gravy. Dee licious!! I filled up on it and could barely eat my savory shrimp and grits. This was made alot like a tasty gumbo over cheesy grits. The breading on the chicken sandwich we ordered was crispy and tasty. The portions were huge and everything well prepared. The menu is diverse, kind of between diner food and a pancake house. I really wish I could eat here more often, but the wait is just too long. Still the 3 items and iced tea we ordered came to $60 plus gratuity, which seems average for a similar dining experience most places.

Be prepared for a long wait. Maybe it's a good sign because it seems like everyone here in NN come here for breakfast/brunch. Or maybe they just need more help in the kitchen or wait staff. There were at least 3 empty tables. There was even a time when a waitress would come upfront and answer customer questions while the hostess was standing by. Service definitely needs help. Ambiance: typical local diner vibe. Charming decor, a hodge podge of random nature prints and Eat sign. Food: now THIS is the aspect that sets Byrd's Restaurant apart - even with those in VA Beach or Norfolk. Food is solid 5 stars. I ordered The Monitor which is an omelet with real lump crab, diced ham and asparagus. YUMMY! They have specials today one of which was really good that my friend proclaimed: lemon blueberry French toast.

I've been to Byrd's a few times, and the food is good--simply good food. The customer service is great. I love the team approach, and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy. Seating is limited, so there has always been a wait, typically 30-40 minutes, so be prepared to wait. They do have seating inside near the entrance and outside. I believe you can sit in your car while you wait, and they will call you.

Snyder omelet w/sweet potato fries and Sourdough bread

Sophia and I stopped here for breakfast on our day off from work last Friday. We've been here before a few times where the breakfast was very good. It's been a year since our last stop so why not see what they've been up to? We entered after 8am but it was so packed that there was a near 40-minute wait. To be honest, it didn't bother me since we had nothing else planned until later on. They always have a packed house and seating is small. Patience is definitely a virtue. After snagging a table, we were ready to order. I selected the Snyder omelet (bacon, ham, cheese, mushrooms) with a side of sweet potato fries and Sourdough bread. I also had an iced Butterscotch latte for beverages. Everything was delicious. The omelet was full of protein and veggies which is a huge plus for me. The sweet potato fries....a whole lot. And I gotta say the cinnamon-based dipping sauce was a game changer. You definitely don't need a side of ketchup for this one. The Sourdough bread was slightly burnt, but it didn't bother me at all. You can't go wrong with jelly and butter either. A very nice way to start off our day. A full breakfast with staff making sure you're taken care of. Can't ask for anytjing more. Till next time :)

Soooooo Good!! This place is so good that you need to be prepared to wait. It's worth it though. Not pictured was "The Granny" a cold ice coffee with liquor. Everything was excellent, start to finish. From the food to the wait staff.

Not sure how to describe the vibe- clean modern feel with a touch of cozy here and there - like the sofa when u first walk in. Pros: Cool sofa for waiting on a table or maybe cocktails? Krista was our server and she was delightful. Friendly and helpful - let us know her favorites and got our order in quickly since we couldn't take too long. Nice cocktail selection and even better range for apps and mains. Loved the ahi tuna flatbread!! Our favorite of the apps. Could have ordered for dinner and left very happy since it cost less too lol. Seared scallops were delicious- the sauce and fresh corn were amazing. Shrimp and grits had an impressive depth of flavor and the spinach and tomatoes were a unique addition. The black bass was also very good. Cons Prices on the higher side even for a fancy restaurant in Richmond. Didn't love the complimentary bread and butter: I appreciated trying to make the butter something unique- going for savory and sweet the white chocolate and herbs but the white chocolate didn't really work for us as an ingredient. Felt like the bread should've been crusty for butter like this and not the soft rolls they served. Didn't care for the pork belly appetizer. Instead of being crispy, it was just tough.

Only thing that was a little weird was we had two birthdays and asked the manager if they happened to do a complimentary birthday dessert or something for the two birthday guest. He responded politely with we don't do any birthday desserts but you can order champagne since it's a celebration. Mind you it's a party of 12 and each couple's bill was at least 250+. The house brownie-cheesecake was also outstanding--rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced without being overpowered by chocolate. Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by a mistake with our appetizer, the Duck Confit. Alexa handled the situation professionally, courteously apologized, and did everything within her ability to address the issue. However, I was disappointed that the restaurant manager never came to our table to personally acknowledge or apologize for the mistake. To make matters worse, there was no acknowledgment or farewell from the host as we exited. This was my wife's birthday dinner, an occasion that deserved a higher level of attention and hospitality from the management team. Alexa demonstrated what exceptional customer service looks like, but the lack of management follow-through and acknowledgment ultimately affected our overall experience. For these reasons, Steak & Tonic receives 3 out of 5 stars from us. The food and Alexa's service were excellent, but management's handling of the situation fell short of the standard I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. You order at the register, and the staff brings the food out to your table. Everyone was attentive, and we had no issues with the service. We ordered the waffle plate, which came topped with fruit alongside eggs and their house sausage. We also tried the Huevos Rancheros, the Sausage Egg & Cheese sandwich, and a build-your-own omelette. For drinks, we ordered the brown sugar cold brew, dulce de leche cold brew, drip coffee, and an espresso martini. The waffle was huge, and the sides were great. My only complaint was that it could have used more fruit, as there were only a few small pieces. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious and came with a generous serving of avocado. The only thing that caught us off guard was the lack of salsa, since in traditional Huevos Rancheros the salsa is a key component. Even so, the dish was still flavorful and filling. The omelette was excellent, and the breakfast sandwich was equally delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made jam, house-made hot sauce, and the perfectly seasoned home fries. As for the drinks, the brown sugar cold brew was excellent, but the dulce de leche version was far too sweet for my taste. From what I understood, they use two flavored syrups to make it, and I think using smaller portions of each would create a better balance. We ended up adding oat milk and some drip coffee to tone it down. The drip coffee itself was solid and came with free refills. The espresso martini really tied brunch together for me -- strong, well-made, and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the experience, and we'll definitely be back.

I'm not exaggerating. It came out super quick too so they have to be making it ahead and just letting it sit. I had country fried steak, eggs over medium, toast and home fries and a side of bacon. The home fries and steak were lukewarm, the eggs were literally cold like they sat in the refrigerator, the bacon was also damned close to being that cold. The toast was cold as can be, barely toasted, no butter, not cut. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said there is butter on the table. That's it. She really seemed like it was a bother to have to serve customers at all. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I don't know how this place has any positive reviews at all. I sent my entire meal back but still paid for coffee and the side of bacon (and my sons' meals of waffles and French toast). I didn't want mine remade. Still cost me nearly 50 dollars for this trash, and no offer to make it right other than removing exactly what I sent back. My other and more serious concern is food safety. IF they ARE cooking this ahead and storing it in a way that leaves it cold or room temp, bacteria is a big concern. I'm typing this from the toilet and my stomach is going through it right now. From a few bites of cold food? Maybe.
