I've been a fan of Cure in Norfolk for years. This was my first visit at Cure in Newport News. Parking is by pay garage or street with restrictions. It can be very challenging to find street during the day like I had. I found the few blocks walk after locating park clean with no debris. I planned on only ordering a coffee, but after reviewing the menu decided on more. The staff was friendly and helpful with choices. I ordered an avocado toast and crème brûlée coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area was roomy and bright with plenty of windows to allow sunshine to flow.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Many of the table had solos on lap tops. My coffee order was called out quickly and was gorgeous! Around 10 minutes later my toast was pushed out. The coffee was as good as it looked. The toast was just ok. The avocado was spread extremely thin. I hope to return on another Newport News trip. read more

In addition to coffees they also offer specialty cocktails. I had a candied orange mocha latte and my husband had a red eye. His turkey fig sandwich was delicious and packed full of turkey, fig, goat cheese, avocado and arugula. I had a plain bacon egg cheese and fried egg bagel sandwich. Nothing special but it had plenty of crispy bacon. I really enjoy this place. I tend to choose Cure for meeting up with friends. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is mellow, the music is good and also kept at a low enough volume that conversation can be had, and the service is great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Plus, it's conveniently located and parking isn't an issue. I don't drink coffee but the tea is most excellent and while the menu is simple, the food is very good, and it's served quickly (I recommend the avocado toast). Sophia and I happened to stop here for breakfast to meet a friend of mine. This used to be Aroma's which was in City Center for years before relocating to Warwick Blvd as Captain's Den adjacent to CNU. Would this be a path to a hidden gem or one with a sad face of disappointment? Inside, the decor is gorgeous. A few tables inside and some artwork abound. I forgot to take a few pics unfortunately. Just like Aroma's before, we had to order at the counter for our food. I chose the Hangover Helper sandwich, which is an Everything bagel with pastrami, hard fried egg, Swiss and Russian dressing. For the beverage (along with a cup of water), I chose a hot lavender mocha. Not a bad meal at all. The bagel sandwich itself tasted pretty good with each ingredient working together. Food: Turkey, Fig spread, avocado and goat cheese in delicious bread! Tomato bisque was very good! I'm picky about tomato soup and this was excellent. I can now attest that Cure is amazing at all 3 locations. The Smithfield location is my go to but I was in Newport News & decided to try this location. It's very spacious with lots of plants and mixed seating arrangements; bar, couches, benches, tables & chairs & outdoor patio seating. The bar is well stocked & they have great coffee choices. The food menu is fitting for a cafe. The Churro Latte is one of my favs, but every drink I've had from their menu has been wonderful. The avocado toast is modest but packs lots of flavor. This place always has a great seasonal menu. It's right in the heart of city center, which has limited parking. So be prepared to park a little ways away from the building, but it's very much worth it. I'm happy to say that they have a lot of seating options. They also have high chairs for toddlers, so that's a plus. I recommend this place, especially their sweet treats which always look absolutely delicious. This is my second time here. I love all Cure Coffeehouses (Smithfield, Norfolk), so it's no epiphany that I love the ambiance of this location. What's there not to love. Large windows and doors overlooking the Town Center fountains. Seating example with long bench along the back wall. It's the most spacious , centrally located bar area in the middle, plenty of staff to greet you and take your order and fulfill them. Today I ordered the candied orange latte (yum) and the southwest breakfast sandwich to go. Definitely a destination when you drive to Newport News! read more

The seating is comfortable and the Wi-Fi is strong in case you needed to work. Parking is generally street parking. All of the staff were awesome. They engaged with my 10 year old son while he ordered. That was great that they did that. They helped explain any menu item questions. My yogurt parfait was packed with flavor. This place is a hidden gem!! The lattes were amazing, fresh, coffee was fresh, the in house flavor syrups are awesome and their unique Blending of flavors are incredible. Sandwiches were so so good! Not a huge pastrami fan (usually do the the saltiness). It was the best I have had, since they make it in house as well. The turkey and fig sandwich with avocado was banging good. We had the apple pastry. Super good. Loved the heavy nutmeg. Now it's a little pricey. For two small coffees, two sandwiches and one pastry is $48 dollars. This was for two people. But with basically everything local and made in house I see where time is money. The ambiance was super chill. Liked everything. The girl taking our order was helpful, super nice and educated on the menu. She suggested all the things we ordered and she was completely on it. So good. The food runner was so nice and polite and helpful. The barista even shared her favorites and my husband ordered her suggestions. Parking is hard in my opinion if you want to do a quick run in. It's street parking at this location or garage parking. Not a terrible hike to park and walk. But consider it, if you think you are doing a quick drop in. Service was fast! Service was fine- we came and were able to go right up to the counter and they answered any questions we had, but didn't really feel like striking any conversation other than that. UPDATE AUGUST 2023: Upon a recent visit I will stand by my initial review from last year. However, the number of stars was reduced not because anything was wrong, but on their pricing. A Reuben Sandwich (no chips or pickle), a large black coffee, tax and standard tip was $23.69. I understand many costs and elements that are involved with a small business plus being in a high rent district, but I was just astounded at the total cost. This is a cute little spot that my husband and I went to for brunch because it was so close to our house. The area is nice and it is a nice spot to grab a bite to eat and take a walk because of the fountain outside. I don't think I'd ever go back to this place only because it was way too expensive. Love that this spot isn't too far from my house! There's also multiple locations which I enjoy when businesses are able to expand their craft to reach more people in the community. I looked over the menu and spotted their Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Coffee which I absolutely couldn't pass up during the fall season. It is served hot or iced. I asked for iced. I enjoyed the flavors in this one and actually had to stop myself from ordering another since I had spent quite some time there. I plan to inquire about adding cold foam next time if that's an option. They also had a food and cocktail menu which I found nice for a coffee shop. I visit Cure on a weekly basis because I work in the area. I had an issue with a previous charge and went in to see if I could reconcile the issue. I was assisted by one of the baristas who needed some help from the owner. I was very impressed on how they treated the situation and handled my problem. I started going to this coffee spot after relocating to VA from CA. I have been going for about a year now. However, I would say lately the quality has gone down. The coffee isn't as good as it once was and the quality of food isn't near what it should be for the price. I went in today to get a 12oz coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Without tip the total was just over $19. The wait was EXTREMELY long which I understand during a rush period. However, when I received my coffee (hot) it was room temperature, subpar and my food was seconds from being cold. Today was probably the last day I'll go to Cure with the price being the first reason, the second being the quality of products. read more
