My wife and I have eaten here a few times and we've always enjoyed it. The menu is pretty extensive (for a pub) and everything we've tried has been good. Last night we ordered fried cheese curds with their hot/sweet dipping sauce and a Reuben. The curds were perfectly done and the Reuben was excellent. The woman who was the bar tender was rude. She started cleaning up at 7:15pm and closed the pub earlly during a World Cup knockout round. She said it was because of the temperature but it was 8:00 and not particularly hot. We brought our service dog into the pub and she made an offhanded comment saying "if he really is a service dog". Update: Returned last weekend (7/12/2025) and was not disappointed. All the usual favorites, and tried a few new items: The Shepherds Pie, and the Bailey's Cheesecake. The Shepherds Pie was great- a nice portion, perfectly seasoned, not too salty. Surprised by the peas and carrots in there with the corn, but it was delicious. The cheesecake nearly brought a tear to my eye, as it reminded me of my Babci's old fashioned cheesecake- made with farmers cheese and baked a golden brown- not the typical jello mix and cream cheese abomination... This is a fine place to visit as a tourist. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap, and then extensive selection of IPAs. We sat by the windows, so it was very good for people watching. This pub was a great stop in historic Bath. The servers are all so super friendly and made wonderful food choice recommendations. We all got The Destroyer and didn't regret it. The pastrami was good. Also the Salmon BLT was good. Their mashed (mashed potatoes) is the same version that they use in their Shepards Pie and I could just come back for them. The atmosphere is great with their Irish heritage all over the walls. It's a local pub spot for their residents and it's lively while being a good choice for the children. Th Irish poached eggs were made perfectly. They were served with corned beef hash - I don't normally like nor go for hash. It was so good. Really good! Def get the hash! The Guinness bread was sweeter than expected. It was dense and good. A little goes a long way. It was all good! Everyone in the place looked happy and enjoying their meal. An Irish pub that actually plays Irish music and once a week has a whole Irish folk band come in and liven the place up with solemn sadness as only a folk band can do! I have had just about everything on the menu as I have the time, funds and the loneliness to do so! No hot chick I am trying to please who "wants to try something different" or something like that! WOMAN... why do we need to try something different? This place has shown us time and time again that they know how to cook food! Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that the food is good, the staff is awesome and doesn't judge me showing up time and time again by myself to eat their amazing Irish themed food. And if you are cool they will even show you their basement which opens up through a panel on the floor like some early speak easy. Is the food authentic? Hell if I know! I've been coming here for years. It's always our first stop after a four hour ride for lunch. Love the interior, it's a classic bar with great wood floors and plenty of things to look at on the wall. Love the signs in the bathroom! Service is always friendly and the food good. We start with the Leprechaun balls, a little spicy ap. After that typically Rueben's, shepherd's pie and whatever else temps us. I had a BLT this year and it hit the spot. read more

Stopped in for lunch. This place had been recommended to us several times by other family members, so we figured we'd give it a try. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from an Irish pub: somewhat cozy, lots of wood, and paraphernalia from the isles. There was also a lot of random knick knacks strung up on the walls (e.g. PA license plates?), but I guess we'll chalk that up to just being another bar. They have a decent selection of beers on tap (at least 12) with the Guinness staple of course. The menu is a healthy mix of Irish fare with other options for those not feeling the traditional, often heavy plates. The staff was pleasant enough; definitely not seemingly happy, but definitely not rude either. We had a bowl of potato leek soup (the special) and shrimp tacos. The soup was quite good, as were the tacos. The tacos were served with a side of tortilla chips - just chips. No salsa or sauce or anything of the sort; just dry chips. They remained practically untouched by the time the table was cleared. We would definitely go back for a shot at a full meal. read more

At 5:45 on a Saturday night, my husband and I were driving around downtown Bath looking for a coffee shop or some other place to kill some time. We were quite astounded to find very few places open. We stopped in to Byrnes' Irish Pub simply because it was open and looked like a place to get some dessert and coffee. It seemed to be filled with locals but in a friendly and fine way. We sat in a corner table and read through the menu, the specials and their calendar of events. This is one busy place! There appears to be live music, open mic nights and Irish sing-alongs! I noticed they serve a special "Irish Brunch" on Sundays and wished I lived close enough to check this out! My husband ordered the "Nutty Irishman", a hot coffee with Jamesons, Amaretto and whipped cream. He LOVED it! I ordered a regular coffee and a bread pudding to share. The bread pudding was recommended by the waitress. My husband loved it but I found it to be a small serving, especially when shared by two people, SO we also ordered the Cherry Garcia cheesecake, which was tasty AND abundant! We did not try any of the food, although the menu is expansive. I would definitely come back in the future, if I were in Bath and looking to kill some time, although I would urge business owners in Bath to consider staying open until at least 7pm on a Saturday night! read more

I'm writing this because I had a great time when I came here for dinner a couple days ago. Indeed my cheese burger was a really good cheese burger but the scene was casual and super friendly. In fact at one point when someone was getting ready to leave, a goodnight hug triggered another and then erupted into a hugging fest. I couldn't stop smiling and feeling I was having a true Cheers experience. Other nights, pre-covid, there has been great live music and I'm sure events like that will happen again once things get back to normal. In the meantime I like that there's room to socially distance, that the food is consistently good, and the friendly atmosphere and good service. read more

Stopped in last week after a trip up to Popham for a cold wintery beach walk. Inside it's a very cozy space with a lot of knickknacks and funny signs, things like "God created Liquor to keep the Irish from conquering the world." Definitely a local scene. The bartender there seemed to know everyone there, so my mom and I as the only two non-locals must have stood out and thus she wasn't super attentive to us. But she had a heavy handed pour when it came to a Jameson so I appreciate that. We split an order of the Mac & cheese. I had higher expectations. It came out and was huge with the cheese on top crispy like it had been stuck under the broiler. Once I took a bit though it was so dry and macaroni burnt to a crisp. It really could have done with a bit more milk mixed in. There were some burgers that came out of the kitchen while we sat there that made me regret our order choice. All in all I would definitely go back. It's a cozy spot especially in the winter. I probably wouldn't recommend the food, more of a drinks only type place. read more

I've been here a few times over the years. Last night was the last night I will dine at this establishment. I was disappointed. Some places that were once good find that local fame and then languish, becoming apathetic with a little success, and they find themselves in the doldrums. This seems to have happened here. The atmosphere is what i enjoy. Brick walls, nice long bar, wooden tables that are unique craftsmanship. What I like; a pub decor. The selection of beer and whisky is ok. Good, but standard for any "authentic" Irish Pub in America. They have the standard fare of Guinness products, domestics, and a few popular craft brews from Maine. This whisky selection is decent, but nothing phenomenal. The food. I had macaroni and cheese with a banger. The mac and cheese was dry, tasteless. It was plain cooked pasta with, what looked like, cottage cheese. There was no roux, no sauce, no creaminess, it was bland. The only reason I ate it and didn't return this, was the kitchen was closed and I was ravenous. It was the most revolting mac and cheese dish I've ever had. The banger came on a separate plate. It was tough, and dry. It is literally just a sausage on a plate. Dress it up a bit. The table ordered Irish nachos. The consensus from the table, terrible. The nachos were bland. It was like warm tortillas with stuff thrown on top. One friend described it as baked tortillas with a side of sour cream. There was disappointment all around. The Leprechaun balls were good. After the nachos and mac and cheese, anything would taste good. The female bartender was nice and attentive, good memory. She remembered drinks after the first order. Service was poor. Our waitress took our order at 9:35. One of our party was unsure if she wanted food of her own and voiced this to the waitress, saying she was undecided. Our friend then tried to order food at 10:10, and was informed the kitchen closed at 10pm. Common courtesy dictated she come back and inform the kitchen was closing, even if a patron didn't voice their want for food. An hour later, we watched as food came pouring out of the kitchen for a party that had recently arrived. When asked, the bartender informed me a party had called four weeks before booking the food. So, no one else in the restaurant could eat, only them. This is poor restaurant management. Extremely poor taste. Eventually, we lost our waitress to the party that arrived and never saw her again for the rest of the night. Overall, poor. Would not recommend. read more

Like the other reviews, my wife and found the place homey and welcoming. The locals are friendly, the staff attentive. Good selection of beers on tap and the food is very good. I had the Brooklynn's Pastrami; ample portions of meat, topped w/ melted Swiss and a nice spicy brown mustard. My better half had the burger and liked it. We sampled the cashelmole (guac w/ Cashel Bleu Cheese), which comes with homemade pita chips. Great appetizer that goes well with just about any beer selection. I am a frequent Midcoast Maine visitor and have been to Byrnes several times. Service is always friendly and strong, the food is decent, and drinks are plentiful and delivered quickly. A friend and I walked in last night around 10:30p, aka closing time on a Sunday night in Maine, and the bartender graciously stayed open to grant us a couple of pints of Guinness. I know what it feels like to want to leave at closing time after working a full shift and appreciated the friendly banter and good pour. My only Byrnes critique: in the past I've noticed a lot of Notre Dame kitsch on the walls. If the owner is an alum, that's understandable. I have ordered chili or soup several times and every time I have to send it back to be microwaved because it's not even lukewarm. I've been to this Irish Pub many times over the past decade and I am never sorry that I stopped in for a pint. It has all the gritty attractiveness of a blue collar, New England, shipbuilding town! The service is great, the staff is friendly and the food is pretty darn good too. Over the years, I've had the good fortune of trying breakfast, lunch and dinner. I find the added charm from all the patrons that pass through its doors. You'll meet tourists, business folks, shipyard workers and even the fire chief. I've enjoyed all the activities from open mic to Irish singalongs. If you want some good Irish fare washed down with a pint of Guinness, Smithwick's or a Murphy's, then this is your pub.
