Gamjatang is so good, lot of meat and fall out the bone, soup is so flavorful. Good soondae too, we never had this version, lighter in color than what we usually see, but really good. Amazing food! Deserves a much higher rating than what it currently has. The rice is perfectly cooked (a little on the firmer side as it soup be). There is plenty of meat in the soup. Not too crowded on a Friday night, located near IHOP and jongro, this place is not flashy. Was promptly seated and given menus. Ordered the galbi tang and the bf ordered the sundae guk. Every table has a variety of condiments for soup (ie pepper, salt, chilli paste, shrimp paste, etc) so you can customize your soup to your liking. The galbi is huge, literally a huge bone that can entice any meat lover~. They also give a variety of small side dishes as well as a choice of white or purple rice. Service was ok, at the end of the menu it's a bit hard to get the waitress but it was only one active waitress when we went. Overall food and vibes were very homey and cozy. I've passed this restaurant so many times and I've never gone but I hope my review boosts up this place cause it's actually a great spot for Korean food! There's a few parking spaces directly in front and inside is actually pretty big, with plenty of tables. We were seated immediately since it was already 10pm but we came with a large group of 10 people. We ordered several items to share and prices were very reasonable. - Seafood pancake: decent size and good amount of seafood! Slightly thick but still crispy. - LA Galbi: one of the best meats. Super tender and flavorful, perfect with their freshly steamed rice (something about Korean rice in the metal tin just hits different). - Army stew: a classic stew with tons of toppings and the best part is adding the ramen (so much so that we ordered another ramen to add in). It's cooked on the table so you get to eat it as it's heated up. - Pork bone stew: spicy pork bones with potatoes, also cooked at the table. It's technically already cooked but it continues to cook at the table and it's super flavorful. The stew gets very thick so I'd definitely recommend to ask for more of the stew. There's actually a lot of pork bones and decent amount of meat on them too. - Blood sausage soup with extra meat: we ordered the one with extra meat so that it came with soondae on the side as well as some other organ meats. It usually comes unseasoned cause they have the condiments on the side for you to add to taste. The blood sausage was slightly on the gamey side so I didn't like it as much but others liked it. - Spicy pork bulgogi: spicy pork over rice in a hot stone pot. A classic with thinly sliced pork, not too spicy. Overall, a great spot for authentic Korean food. The staff was nice and it's very spacious inside which was great for a large party. Just tried this restaurant but definitely going back when I'm craving for soupy rice dishes! They close at 12am too for those who need late night food after drinks! Pretty far out but if you're in the area the food is really good and warming. I got the soondae with extra meat soup bowl which actually comes with way more than expected since my set was only $14. The soup itself is rich but bland, this is when you add the salt, fermented shrimp, etc that are on the side at every table. It was amazing, hit the spot for me since I've been craving it all winter. Soondae was also interesting, first time seeing carrots and spinach in them. We ordered the mix rice and it's my first time seeing them actually serve the remaining stuck rice soaked in water. It's literally just that so not so sure how ppl eat them, but we were already suuuuuper full. Didn't get to eat much of that sadly. Place is actually pretty big, open and clean. The only reason why this place is a 4 star and not 5 is bc of the service. We weren't greeted right away as the waitress walked past us. After 2 min of her walking around past us getting stuff for others, she asked how many ppl are we. She didn't say anything, just grabbed the menus and placed them on the table. Didn't tell us to follow her, or told us to sit at this table, and no eye contact so it was quite confusing. My friend asked for the alcohol menu and the server was confused what she meant. I just asked for the makgeolli and she knew what we wanted. (It's nice they server makgeolli with the traditional cups! They maintain the temp of the drink longer) I guess you can point at the clear glass fridge with the drinks if you're having difficulty. BUT! With the food being good, I don't mind service being a little on the less-catering side. I'm Chinese so usually that's how you know food is good lol. I was not very excited when my parents said they wanted to go to this place. Soondae is Korean blood sausage, which is what it sounds like. A sausage made from pigs intestines, blood, rice and noodles. The good news is that they have a lot of dishes that do not have Soondae. Whew! The banchan (side dishes) were not plentiful but the 3 different types of kimchi were nice. I ordered the belt fish stew and my wife ordered the Soondae soup. I cannot tell you how her dish was because as I said, not a fan of Soondae. The soup is similar to kalbi tang, which means you need to add a bunch of the condiments they give you (salt, shrimp chili paste, etc). The beltway stew was very tasty BUT I think I know why some people have said the stews were not that tasty. The owner came by and told us that you need to let the stew cook and reduce, which heightens the flavor. If you do not wait, then it will taste watery. Maybe that is the issue others have had because our stew was so flavorful! As others said, the prices are less than other Korean places. The stew is probably 20-25% cheaper than at others. For the prices, this is one of the really good places for stew. For non-KoreNs, I would recommend kidnapping one of your Korean friends to help you manage the menu. My family and I are loyal Byung Chun Soondae customers for years. We visited there at least once or twice every month for a few years. Something horrible happened today, and I have to share it. I invited my family and friends to Byung Chun Soondae today for dinner. We ordered 2 sets of combo and 2 soups. Total 4 soups and two dishes. We got our food quickly but we are missing the Korean Sauage Soup. Towards the end of the meal, everyone is almost finished with their meals. We finally realized that they might have actually forgotten my husband's Korean Sauage Soup. It was quite difficult to get helped and when we finally did, we asked about the missing Korean Sauage Soup. I was a bit upset at that time and suggested that we would just cancel that dish. But my husband was very kind, he did not want the waitress getting in trouble for forgetting his order. He still takes the Korean Sauage Soup after they bring it out (at this point, an hour has passed). While my husband finishing his Korean Sauage Soup, I asked for the check. Because of the bad experience, I decided that this time I would give only 10% tips for the bad service we received (we always tip 20% or more). After the waitress collected the bill, she came back, told us we only tip 10% ask and asked us to tip at least 15%. I asked for the manager, but the waitress said the manager is not in the restaurant. Then I told the rude waitress, I honestly felt that the service I got deserves a ZERO tip. You should be grateful that I left TEN PERCENT instead of ZERO. Then, that waitress walked away with some rude mumbles about how we are cheap. This location used to be another restaurant You-Chun, now they're under new owner & management. That's no English name on their sign and I only can find their name from the receipt. They're located next to IHOP on northern blvd. My favorite dish is Number two on the menu the Pork soup which is sweet, all-natural favor and crunchy. They don't use frozen meat and have their pork freshly delivery everyday. I love the flavor of kimchi. More important that kimchi can make me eat a whole bowl of rice. The owner told me that kimchi is made by her mother twice a week. It means they always have fresh one coming out. Don't forget to try their fried pan bibimbap. It's the place to be for late night hungry Korean youngsters without anywhere to go. Warm soup, affordable price, and we'll the taste hasn't let me down just yet. At our recent visit, the (Bbyuh-da-gwee Hae-jang-guk) (Tail bone soup?) was as delicious as ever, but the (Dak-dori-tang) (Spicy chicken soup) was a little too watery and shall I say ?.... I ordered the $25 soondae takeout, and it was ready for pick-up in less than 20 minutes (I think the actual time was 15 minutes). After traveling with me from Flushing to the city, an ordeal that took about an hour and 10 minutes, the order was consumed without prior heating - and it was good. Considering how well it preserved its heat and freshness despite the travel, I'm sure it would taste even better when eaten at the restaurant itself. They also gave a decent amount of kimchi (though uncut - though I did manage to eat a huge piece in a single bite, to The Girlfriend's amazement - though unadvisable, since you'll basically taste kimchi by itself, mostly - though I've used though so many times, I thought I'd use it once more just for fun), which was nice. I have a large appetite, but even with help from The Girlfriend, we weren't able to finish the whole thing. I think that says a lot for their portioning (but it WAS $25, so maybe it's to be expected). I came here two times already with my boyfriend. One last year and this year around the same time too. My boyfriend whose Korean recommended this place. This place is known for their bossam and kimchi. The first time I had it, it was delicious. Their kimchi was on point and its served in earthen pot full of kimchi inside. Could have told us this before they put down the side dishes but told us as we were ordering. Waitress was rather rude saying "we ran out; can't do anything about it".
