This place would of gotten 4 stars, but I'm a sucker for good service and climate control. Food here is delicious. Beers are cheap and taziki sauce is amazing. I recommend starting with the Greek Fries, but tell them make sure they dont burn them. Every main dish I've had has been really good and fresh. The portions are not enormous, but for someone who doesn't know how to leave any food on their plate...its a good thing. Very reasonable prices... just SUPER slow service, and hot in there. I'm a huge fan of BZ Grill and their pork gyro. It's the only gyro I've tried so far in New York and reminds me of the traditional gyros I used to enjoy in Greece. Their meat is crispy and well seasoned, all the ingredients are fresh and their portions are huge. However, BZ Grill should invest some $$$ to upgrade their ventilation system. Staying in there for more than 5 minutes will make your clothes smell like a well roasted pork! That's exactly why I prefer takeout. read more

I have had there food twice. Once as take out and once eat it. Both times it was just ok. For take out i ordered the gyro sandwich and i thought it too well cooked. The gyro meat was extremely oily and crunchy (let me tell you that is should not be crunchy). I didn't think i would do business again with them but my friend really wanted to go to this place because she had the spicy feta from this place before. Came here then for a chicken gryo and shared the spicy feta. Chicken gryo was dry and not flavorful. The spicy feta wasn't what i expected. For those who are not Astorians, this is a tiny spot in the southern shadows of the Triboro ramps. Parking was a major hassle on a Saturday afternoon. As you enter, there is a small grill where the chef was grilling, some sheftalies methinks. The massive gyros, pork and chicken, dominate the place. For $10 you get a sandwich, fries and a soda - the sandwich itself is $6.89. The grilled pita and salads/condiments are very good, the sandwich is bountiful, but the pork is a bit dry so I won't give it five stars. The fries are coated, prepared fresh to order and delicious. An order of take out feta spread brought some free pita as well. We sat at the front tables and ordered from the counter, the cashier brought our plates of food. Credit cards are accepted. They even have BZ pens. If, like us, you have driven to the 31st/30th avenue area for food shopping and have good parking, it's probably better to leave your car where it is and walk to BZ. Delicious!! Came with a Groupon so we were able to try the falafel appetizer with a hummus and eggplant spread as well. The falafel were tasty and had a great crust. I got the chicken gyro platter and the hubby got the 'burger'. The platter is huge! The chicken was tasty and came with onions, tomatoes, two sauces, French fries and pita bread. The burger was juicy and had great flavor as well. My only complaint is that they need another server - there was only one guy and they were very busy so he was rushed and the hospitality suffered. This is my gem for gyros. I like coming to this spot for the pork gyros. They're very generous in packing the meat in the gyro. The pork is really tender and yummy, has bits of crunch and juiciness in every bite. I always get everything on my pork gyro since it's so filling and the tomatoes and onions makes me believe I am still eating something healthy, hehehe. The fries are my favorite here too, nice and crispy just the way fries are meant to be. I can eat these w/o the mayo and ketchup that's how scrumptious they taste! Food is great, however every time I have ordered, they have either forgotten an item whether it be sauce, or no onions, etc...or failed to refund when we were told we would be after they ran out of halloumi sandwiches. So, I finally got to eat here! I've been meaning to try it and compare to the "other" similar souvlaki place PITA PAN. And I have decided... Pita Pan wins! Sorry, the size of the souvlaki pita sandwiches are smaller and tastier than at BZ. That's how they are in GREECE. And while BZ has some sort of mayo sauce Pita pan has that delicious mustardmayo sauce I love. BZ does beat Pita Pan in the fries department. The BZ fries are crisp and much tastier than the soggy messes at Pita Pan. And the BZ chicken was very tender, but again, Pita Pan is much more like the real deal. Also, BZ is kinda out of the way. I don't know if they can expand and make a cafe but they are up by no man's land in contrast to the lively strip of 30th Ave. So, bottom line, BZ has kick ass food but if you want the genuine "mini souvlaki pita" experience, you gotta go to Pita Pan. read more

This is an interesting little place. I had always walked past it and thought it was just a take away place, but there actually is back room/seating area that is quite pleasant, the walls painted the pale colors of a baby shower. Service was great, I didnt expect service, but when we went up to counter to order they told us to sit down, and then they took our order. Let's face it, if you live near Astoria Blvd after a certain street, your options are not too plentiful. So for that, this place is much appreciated. The gyros are good, I've had better, but they were good. chicken souvlaki over rice with pita and veggies was also good. I'm a big fan of BZ Grill - they're located just half a block away from my apartment, making them the perfect option for take-out when I'm too lazy to cook (which happens frequently...). Their sign says they have the best gyros in NYC, but I would venture to say they definitely have some of the best french fries I've had here. I had a side order of french fries, and it was a HUGE amount of fries, definitely enough for 2 or more people. They were perfectly crispy, not greasy, and piping hot. I also had a falafel sandwich - not mind-blowing, but definitely tasty. It was packed with lots of veggies, and the tzatziki had a little something different to it. Not sure what, but it was delicious. The falafel balls themselves lacked some flavor, but were well-cooked. The sandwich was also rather large, larger than many other falafel sandwiches I've had in the city. While this seems like more of a delivery/take-out place, there is some seating both outdoors and indoors. It's a casual place, so nothing too fancy here. The staff I interacted with were very friendly, and my food was prepared quickly. Everything here is affordable - I believe my falafel and huge side order of fries came out to about $8? Overall, this is a good, fresh spot to pick up some cheap food that won't leave you feeling too full or gross afterward. They took more than 45mins to serve the food, I ordered the chicken gyro with rice, bacon with chicken, souvlaki GR, all of them were super dry and hard. I couldn't even eat it without sauce. Was hungry for tzatziki so decided to make an order online for a Gyro platter to support a local business in these tough times right now. Walked into the restaurant 20 minutes later to pick up my food, and I was told it would be another couple minutes and was asked to wait outside. ( Which I understand, with the social distancing right now because of covid.). While I'm outside waiting 3 people order gyros, and get theirs...while I'm still standing outside. It wasn't until another 20min goes by until I finally get my platter. As I start walking back, I noticed that i didn't get any tzatziki sauce, even though I paid for extra. When I bring this to the attention of the person at the counter, he starts yelling that he doesn't have any cups for the tzatziki...even though the sauce I was supposed to get was neatly sitting on the counter next to him. When he noticed the sauce he pretty much threw it at me. Screw the guy making the gyros. Stopped in for a quick lunch with my dad on a Saturday afternoon. I've been once before, and my dad goes often. This time, we had another good meal. We started with Horiatiki which was delicious, I had the chicken gyro and he had the regular pork gyro. The gyros were good, although we noticed that they had less meat than usual. Still more than enough food, just something that was noticeable compared to other times we've been here. The chicken was a little under cooked in my opinion. Safe enough to eat, but a little slimier than I prefer. I tried my dad's pork and wished I'd ordered that instead. The tzatziki was delicious, flavorful and thick. I LOVE this place!! Chicken souvlaki is moist and flavorful. Their sauces are amazing and they make their own mayo. The fries are to die for. I wish it was a bit cheaper, but you get what you pay for here. They have a decent lunch special-- chicken souvlaki platter with drink is $10. My only gripe is the tomatoes aren't that fresh, they leave them sitting out near the grill I think, so they aren't the best. I love having this place in my neighborhood. It is definitely a very neighborhood joint in that it's no-frills, authentic, and fresh. So fresh that it takes forever for your order to be done. There's seating inside, but most people order out. If you do dine in, the service isn't bad and the seating area is comfortable but not fancy. It's just right. Leave 15 minutes for any order to be filled. So bring a book or drink some wine. I am completely addicted to their greek fries (fries topped with crumbled feta, oregano, and olive oil, then baked until it all melts together). The haloumi is great. Their salads are as fresh as you can get. Be prepared for lots of fresh lemon! Their platters are humongous and can easily feed two people. Their pork gyro is very interesting in that it's closer to pernil than the processed pork you get in alot of othe gyro places. read more

This place is very hidden... very! Think of walking around astoria and finding some tables on the sidewalk and .... you're there! I've been here many many times. Just like most restaurants, everything on the menu isn't amazing. The Bad: falafel, service ("no onions" means nothing to them... just like hello and goodbye.... onions always come with the food), platters.... The Good: chicken or gyro sandwiches and greek fries. If you're in the mood for something that sounds and feels like it's bad for you but is actually healthy, come here.... this ain't drunk food.... For under $10 you can get almost anything and you won't be disappointed. I definitely recommend coming here (if you're in the area), it's not a place you should make a trek to. Just had an amazing pork gyro - better than I remembered - along with the Greek fries. This meal gets 5 stars. Enjoyed the Greek Cherry juice too. I suppose the quality varies a little based on how many people are ordering and how much their slicing off for gyros. We got the platter for two once before and it was a nice size portion where you can try different things. It was good, but not great like the gyro and Greek fries. I've always gotten the food (usually gyros) as takeout, and they are quick. The prices are reasonable. every time I order from BZ grill off seamless I have issues.... today my order came with out the drinks I ordered and when I could not have been more clear in special requests that I had a citrus algery and not to add lemons. needless to say there was 4 lemon wedges stuffed in between each chicken skewer. this is the second time this has happened to me with BZ grill never again. read more

I wanted to try this place after seeing how many reviews this place had on Yelp, so I ended up buying a Groupon for it. The rundown: Food: We had the mixed grill as the main dish and falafel and hummus as sides. The grill was not great (maybe because it was part of a Groupon deal) and found the falafels to be burnt. But what I will say is, they are very generous with portion sizes. Service: TERRIBLE. We came on a day with moderate traffic (not busy). We waited 15 mins to be served, and the waiter never came back once to check on us or to even give us the bill. So after 15 mins of waiting, we decided to walk up to the cashier to pay. Summary: I would not come back here. I think the poor service we were given is partially due to the fact that we had a Groupon, so beware. Also, I noticed the waiter was extremely friendly to the customers who were able to communicate with him in his native tongue, so it leaves me to wonder if the positive reviews given were by the locals who know the restaurant owner, as it seemed to me this is a family business. read more

Practically every time I'm in Astoria I go to BZ grill. And every time, the quality of food has been consistently delicious, the portions generous, and the staff friendly (whether carry-out or delivery). If I lived in Astoria, perhaps I would branch out from my usual order, but typically I'll order the Halloumi grilled cheese. Unlike the American fromage of our classic version, Halloumi is a cheese that can actually be grilled. BZ Grill puts it in a pita with special sauce and any of your preferred fixings. I keep it simple: cheese, sauce, pita. Awesome. The Greek French Fries are an extra treat. Basically fries topped with lots and lots of feta and oregano. Also incredible. I go to this place whenever I'm in Astoria, the food is just worth it every time. The place is small, cozy place with a few tables in the front and a few in the back for larger parties. The center of attention is the grill/kitchen in front of restaurant with it's two glistening gyro meat slabs spinning on the rotisserie. The gyros are NOT premade gyro stands, they are hand stacked pieces of marinated meat which I'm guessing is made everyday, that is evident when I came in one day and they ran out of the pork gyro meat and had just fired up a new one. Anyways down to what I usually get: -the pork gyro in a pita ($6-7) or the pork gyro platter ($12) if I'm hungry: the pita is filled to the brim with slices of tender pork and slightly crunchy because they cut it and then throw it on the flat top grill for some more crunchy effect. They also serve it with some wonderful tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato and onions. But the rest of the menu is really, really lacking. The salads only come big and at more $$ than I want for a side salad. They don't offer a side salad. It seems their only really side is fries. But when I'm ordering a greasy sandwich, I no longer want fries with it. It's greek, so it doesn't seem too difficult to offer lemon potatoes, or a avgolemano soup or a small greek salad to go with the gyro. The dips I've gotten aren't that good, and often look, and taste a bit old. Other than waiting at least 10 minutes to be waited on, we walked in and immediately got a table for 6. In the back right there are 4 or 5 tables. I'm only assuming that because it was a little busy and a lot of people waiting for take out is why we waited so long. We waited even longer for the actual food to get to the table, at least 10-20 mins. We ordered fries that came out right away and that's what we munched on in the meantime. We were all starving, and have been wanting to try this place out. Finally, we got our food and man we were happy! The chicken gyros are huge. A lot of chicken!!! Someone at my table said I looked like Guy Fieri biting into my gyro!!! You can eat it with a fork, but I went ol school. We all had chicken gyros and one gyro platter. The platter, again, huge. I wish I took pics, but we were starving and the phones were down. The meat is super fresh here. It's the typical Greek menu and all the Greek fillings. And it's all good here.
