Used to go through the line for takeout, could see what you get. Then had to do takeout line unless regular line was light. Now no takeout in regular line until 8pm no matter what. Stood in takeout line 20 min with regular line empty for ten min at a time. Manager wouldn't let any take outs on the line until 8. (The rules,,for "reasons") Waited as servers ran back with empty containers, "out of X". Go back and see what else is missing. Take out line 6 or 8 deep with no one in regular line and 2 people running orders. Next time I'll order regular meal, go to table and get to go boxes to put it in and leave. Half the time and can see what I'm getting. read more

Growing up in the triad, we ate at cafeterias often. I missed the food quality that seems to be lacking at other restaurants. I was so happy to try C&H and find what was missing. The food was really good. I had the country steak with rice and gravy. It was tender, and I enjoyed the gravy. My son had the tenders with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. He loved his meal. I was impressed that the mashed potatoes tasted homemade. The rolls were also great. I liked the whole wheat roll, which is something you don't see often. We also shared a slice of the chocolate cream pie. It was also delicious. We will be back to try more of their menu. read more

We've eaten here many times since my first review and I can report that the servers consistently wear gloves now. The food is still pretty good. Sometimes I've had cold entrees but we still like it and will continue to patronize the place. read more

Living in Greensboro, we first lost J&S and then K&W. Today for lunch, I ventured over to Kernersville for my first visit to C&H, and I'm glad I did. The portions were plentiful and all of the food was tasty. I had the chicken livers with rice & gravy and a side of cabbage. The servers were very nice large portions food was ok could have a little improvement No floor ladies came up to us to check if all was well or if we needed anything. Employees eating in the booth near the bathroom about 4 of them maybe a discreet place for them to sit lots of tables not cleaned off where there is plenty of floor staff that should be right on it I know they work for tips but if you don't greet and check back won't get a tip we had to get up and find carry out containers and get up for more tea and ice and I know we are supposed to to I believe if that is the case why so many floor staff. read more

When I pulled up and saw gray hairs with walkers going in, I knew I was in the right place. Sadly there's been a demise of cafeterias the past few years leaving one to yearn for comfort food. I enjoyed my baked chicken and vegetables in the dated dining area. The employees were friendly and made sure I didn't need anything. I could tell there were regulars who enjoyed conversations with their meal. I was glad to eat something way better than fast food on my trip, and will stop again to enjoy home style cooking. We met some other friends at C&H Cafeteria Sunday for Mothers Day. A busy place but we expected it especially on Mothers Day. We are very fond of cafeteria food but after the pandemic the K&W cafeteria folded.And the few left have been sub par I hate to say.Especially after so many years of eating At several in our area.I chose Chicken Livers rice and gravy,turnip greens and Cole slaw. My wife had their Turkey and dressing along with green beans.The other in our group all had country style steak and gravy over mashed potatoes. Our food as hot and fresh as expected.They offered assistance with my tray to our table because of my limited walking ability.This is a great feeling. I think only once did we have to get our refills of teas and water.After that someone checked on us regularly. It was very good food.I had a piece of their egg custard pie like I really needed it.But it was also good. I think we'll visit C&H Cafeteria again. read more

Food: Ordered fired livers with grilled onions, honey carrots and broccoli salad. Best part of my meal was the broccoli salad and about three livers that wasn't raw. Service: Not the best alot of non native staff with huge lalanguage barriers no go for me. When I said these livers are raw they smile and say want more water. Nope I'm out best wishes. The food is decent. My concern is how must spit I am eating because an employee is allowed to chew gum near the food!!! When I bought it to a few employees attention....His body language said to me" Oh Whatava!!" We as customers have to deal with enough germs and bacteria unseen. Why should it be done in our faces? I am 100% a cafeteria fan! I have been since I was a kid. Maybe I'm an old soul but I love that they have a variety of options and you can see what you are getting. (My husband is less of a fan) I was running errands and needed a quick bite so I stopped here. This was not my first visit and I'll be back if I'm in the area again. I got the roast beef, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. Also, strawberry shortcake for dessert! That is and has always been my standard order at any cafeteria (I'm not super adventurous) but I wasn't a huge fan of the roast beef. It was cold and very dry so I let the lady in the dining room know and she handled it immediately with a smile. She was super friendly and accommodated me. The restaurant replaced my roast beef with chicken tenders that were exceptional. I loved my meal! The food and service are enough to bring me back again! read more

I love to walk into a restaurant or in this case a cafeteria, and smell all the wonderful foods that's being prepared. My Dad, hubby and I went here to eat last night and the inside was clean and welcoming. The servers were very helpful and courteous. I got a cucumber salad, steak and gravy over rice, fried okra and broccoli with cheese over it. It all tasted fresh and was a home run for me as well as my companions. If you're looking for fresh homemade food with a lot of varieties then this is the place to go. I regret that I didn't take any pics but trust me, it looked almost as inviting as it was tasteful. C&H was my quick go to while out and about in Kernersville. It's so quick, convenient and budget friendly. I opted for the whiting fillet and the salmon Pattie along with vegetables. For dessert I had a sugar free blueberry pie. Out of all of those choices, the whiting fillet was the best choice. Although it wasn't seasoned as well as I would season at home, it was still good, fresh and fried crispy. The salmon Pattie was just okay and actually a bit dry. The vegetables were also just okay. This is not my first time eating here; I just hadn't taken the time to rate before One main concern that I have is the temperature of the food. I can't quite understand why when the food is kept on warmers, it still always manages to be luke warm when I get it. Fried fish is always best when piping hot! The sugar free dessert was not good at all. I tried it as a healthier choice but will never try that again. As for the ambiance, I did have a nice quiet secluded spot in the back and that was nice. Wish I could have given a better rating but it was really mediocre at best. Yet it was still better than having unhealthy fast food. Perhaps it will be much better next time. read more

Upon the complete crash and burn with K&W not being anything like they used to be, we looked for a local cafeteria style restaurant to check out. Walking in is right out of 1995. The people serving are openly friendly and seem happy to be there. And dang, the food is genuinely fantastic! Every now and then, some scrumptious greasy, southern cafeteria food just sounds good. I got the country style steak (and extra gravy), macaroni and cheese and green beans. For dessert, chocolate cream pie. Heck yeah! I'm not a big fan of cafeteria food, but they had some items on their menu I was in the mood food that sometimes I have trouble finding around town. Country fried steak, coleslaw and coconut cake! Just like my family use to make it. I'm very particular about my coleslaw, haha. They have a big assortment of items to choose from and I think their prices are VERY affordable. I typically get the same thing every time but that's because I love it so much. My favorite sides are the sautéed mushrooms, mashed potatoes and gravy and the mac and cheese. I tried their sweet potato pie once and that was good also. I feel like a get large portions at a great price and to my surprise I think I may be a regular here. Never would have imagined that. I love C&H Cafeteria in Kernersville! I could eat here everyday and still maintain a healthy lifestyle. With their selection of lean meats, stewed vegetables and other health-conscious selections, it's easy to pick up a well-balanced, sensible meal. If you're out for the deep-fried, sugary, greasy Southern goodness, they'll take care of that for you as well. Everything is reasonably priced, their portion sizes are good, so you really get bang for your buck. My favorites are the turnip greens, yams, stewed cabbage, roast beef and the yeast rolls. Me and my child came to this restaurant, and YOUR employee's told my child that the veal was sweet and sour pork once they tried it they said it didn't taste right so i went back and asked what it was and it was NOT sweet and sour pork. My child got sick to their stomach and is now unable to eat any pork because of your incompetent staff! The really neat thing about a cafeteria is you pretty much know what the layout's gonna be wherever the location, and you pretty much know the majority of food items that will be there and that there will be plenty to choose from, and you pretty much know it will be relatively inexpensive. None of these are bad things, in my opinion, yet cafeteria dining doesn't seem to generate much excitement in the foodie world - maybe we get jaded, caught up in the dish of the day, the new restaurant of the month, or the cuisine of the year. I've always enjoyed pushing a tray down a long line of good looking food choices, fighting a little with myself over what my choices should be - sometimes that seems a little more stimulaing than staring at a dry, written menu, or hearing a recital of today's dishes with a listing of ingridents I'll forget in a second ot two. Anyway, this place is a little gem within the cafeteria world in this area. The usual setup with one serving line. I thought they had a slighty larger variety of items than K & W, or H & F, in almost every area - salads, entrees, veggies, breads, and desserts. And just like those places, this cafeteria is clean, bright, and very well lit. The Chicken Livers I chose were as good as any I've tried, the serving was very well sized, and a steal at $3.49 - throw in Rice & Gravy, very nice Roasted Potatoes, and Green Bean Casserole ( a little different than most with crumbled bacon, on FF onions), and the total for my meal was $7.66, not bad at all. My wife had the Lunch Special which was CS Steak (outstanding flavor here) with rice & gravy AND Mac & Cheese (a great version) for $5.99, and a nice slab of Egg Custard Pie for $1.29. This is a great little cafeteria, rivaling any in the Triad - this was our first trip, but like I say - we'll be back. read more

Have drove from Pleasant Garden 2 Saturday's in a row to pick up dinner and both times they not have the salmon cakes that you had as having on the menu and can't check by phone because no one answers. Was told by cashier weeks ago that the candhcafeteria was where to check but they have not had them at lunch or dinner. This week they didn't even have chicken tenders- seems like management is beginning too not care if they don't have what they are advertising as having. Ok, Positive first. Food is reasonably priced and generally a good selection. Here's the problem. Why in the world aren't the line servers REQUIRED to wear gloves. Here it is during the middle of flu season and the guy serving vegetables firmly plants his bare thumb into every bowl before spooning vegetables in. This is a VERY COMMON occurrence at C&H. We've even mentioned it to management previously with their "assurance" it would be corrected, but it hasn't . It just shocks me that only about 50% of the line servers wear gloves. Anyway rant over, but this is why the 2 star. Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't a regular occurrence and had the mgmt. not been previously informed. read more

Food was delicious, nice variety, good portions. We normally do not eat at cafeteria style restaurants but we will definitely return here.
