I have to say, I have visited K W numerous times over the past 30 years, and this experience was certainly unlike any of the others, which is not a superlative in this situation. I stopped because I needed a quick bite to eat after helping a friend do some yard work. When I got there, there was no one in line, save for one woman in front of me who could not make a decision to save her life, which is no fault of K&W's. But I was trying to get some food, and the associates behind the counter were not being very helpful or attentive. It was near the end of the night, so they were out or low on a few things, and I totally get that, and do not hold them at fault for this- as I came in around 45 to 30 minutes before close. But, I was still able to get what I desired, country-style steak with rice, okra, and mac & cheese. When I got to the register, I was in for a shock as this meal was over $20. Now, I am sorry, but one of the pillars of K&W is cheaper eats. Had I wanted to spend $20 on a meal, I would have chosen a better place to do so. That price point is going to kill them, as no one wants to pay that sorta price for that level of food. I knew what kinda food I was going to find when I went there, but I did not expect to have to pay that ridiculous fee for that dinner. I am well aware that $20 is no longer considered much, but charging over $20 for one person to dine at K&W is absolutely absurd. Ok, it's fair to say I hadn't been into a K&W in 15 years at least since ours closed down. I don't remember it being this bad. The service was good and friendly..the food was old and had been sitting for the most part..you could tell it had the dried out look on top of all of it..I had the chopped steak...old and no taste even with gravy...I'm not sure if the potatoes where box or homemade they where old and not tasty at all..no matter the butter...jalapeño cornbread was ok...pie was delicious! Fresh chocolate pie and large slice. I am not sure why the food was left to sit like that..only reason I went was out of town with a tour and they announced we would be stopping there..I sure would not pick it again. We used to eat at K&W frequently, but the food gradually changed for the worse. We stopped going completely. On a whim a few weeks ago we decided to try it again. It's now owned by Piccadilly so we assumed the food would be better. It was more than better. The country style steak exactly as it was many years ago. Delicious and freshly made. The macaroni and cheese was incredible, and was just as they used to be. The green beans were lightly seasoned and freshly made. Just like they used to be. The chocolate pie was also just like it used to be thick chocolate custard covered in fluffy whipped cream. Yum. The employees without any exceptions were extremely welcoming and just made the whole experience feel like we were a part of the family. We have eaten there several times since and had the same experience. Excellent fresh made food and service! If you haven't been in a long time. Try it out! K & W is a great place to eat depending on what foids you choose and your budget. The staff us 5 Star! My most recent trip I had salmon, Brocolli, Rice, and fruit salad. All was good but the rice, which was so over cooked it had turned to mush. My salmon was delicious and it was $8.00, that doesnt include any sides or the fruit salad. We are all on a budget and I have certain dietary needs. To me the price was well worth it. My family had baked spaghetti which they said tasted more like it had ketchup that spaghetti sauce and my granddaughter had chicken ranch casserole which she said was greasy. Also we have noticed much smaller portions when we visit take out. I think this is unfair as the prices are the same and we must always stand to wait. read more

Cafeteria style food in decent portions for a low cost. Of the other K&W's in the area, this one seems to have the best food selection and clean dining room. Expect a cafeteria atmosphere with a serving line of salads, main courses, veggies and other side items, desserts and bread selections, and finally drink choices and a cashier. The cashier gives you a receipt which you take to the exit cashier to pay as you exit the restaurant (after having eaten the meal). For a part of three, our bill was under $20 and we each had a main dish and side items. One thing worth noting, the population in a K&W is mostly 60 years old and above but I understand the appeal. Free refills on most beverages and the staff doesn't bother you with the exception of taking your trays and empty plates. Some people were drinking their coffee over a paper while others were dining with their family. Expect it to be full during peak times but they have a serving line to accommodate it with several servers at each station. For a casual dining experience in a nicely configured cafeteria style restaurant, I recommend it... but I am partially biased because I was going here long before I was old enough to have a say in dining location. At 27, I don't think its a place I would explore to on my own, but if you have multiple people wanting different things, its not a bad place to try. I suspect this restaurant is much like many traditional American fair places popular with an older crowd - the majority of their very satisfied customers are not tech savy and therefore have no idea they could rate it online. K&W is clean, fast, and delicious. They always have excellent variety. The prices are very reasonable. I love their chicken stew, macaroni and cheese, and yams. I've never had a bad meal here. It may not be the most amazing meal of your life, but it is always hot, fresh, and tasty. The desserts are great, too. You can get whole pies and cakes. I stopped in the K&W one evening last week and I'm still not over the experience yet. As far as that goes I wasn't satisfied with the previous times I'd stopped into dine there and it's getting Longer in between visits and it will be sometime before I go back if at all. Why is it that this place is so afraid to put any food in their spoon ? and give you child portions. So many time I've had to send my food back Because it was cold and when It was returned back it wasn't much better. Upon receiving my check last week I couldn't believe my eyes I could have went right down the road and ate steak, shrimp and chicken for what it cost to eat there. Just so happens, the manager and General manager were at check out desk and I brought up my concerns and of coarse I get the excuse the Prices had gone up and passed on down to their Customers At the cost of 5% and I'm pretty sure The remodeling is being passed down at Customers expense. I sure hope that they found a way to show some appreciation with some hard earn salary increases for their employees. Now I did agree that food prices have gone up for all but they buy in bulk. This establishment gets high marks because of execution. It's southern no-frills food in a cafeteria setting. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but they do what they do really well. Chicken fingers are really good, chicken pot pie is the same recipe they used 30 years ago. It's great. Broccoli with cheese is a good side, also, get the okra and the greens. Any vegetable is going to be pretty good. You don't go here trying to avoid greasy goodness. Don't even think of finding tofu or cous-cous at this place. This is southern working class fare here. This is the most ethnically diverse restaurant you'll ever go to. Btw, get a freaking dessert. You've already screwed up your diet with everything else. read more

The people in charge should taste the food they have. There is flavor lacking-especially in the mac and cheese & strawberry cake, the defrosted corn is rubbery. If there is a person in charge of quality they missed. The Chicken including the fingers are good. My wife and I received a gift card so we thought we'd give it a try here. It's a cafeteria style restaurant where you pick out your food and pay for what you grabbed. The service is pretty bad. You have to ask someone to serve you if you see something you like. If you manage to get their attention they are rather grouchy about it as if you were bothering them. The food is the greasiest thing I've ever tried. My wife soaked up ten napkins trying to save her fried chicken, then ten more trying to save her mac and cheese. We literally went home and tried to purify our digestive system with fruit smoothies. I'm pretty careful with how I use my superlatives, but I feel comfortable saying this was the worst dining experience we've ever had. This is the 3rd time that I've been standing in line for a take out order & had the server (negro) totally ignore me & go to the lady behind me--also a negro. After I leave this review, I'm going to call & inform the manager. But honestly--it's not just white people who can be racist. I've seen it here way too often. The irony is I'm not white either--I'm mixed & evidently the servers have a problem with that too. I won't be going back. The serving staff alone should get five stars. They are the most attentive and friendly servers I've seen in a long time. Worth a big tip every time we go there. We visited K&W on Hanes Mill Road Friday night at 8 pm. Our 10 year old wanted a kids plate but they were out of Chicken Tenders and Chopped Steak which were one of the kids meal entree options. The Manager was unwilling to substitute a chicken leg which is not normally an option. Very frustrating that we had to pay $10 for our 10 year old to eat at K & W when he could have eaten a kids meal for less than $5. Spoke to manager and he he hardy any words. No apologies! I have always liked the food at K&W but something I've seen multiple times is the amount of food that's given to some people. The last time I was there about two weeks past when I passed the vegetable person I asked for green beans and I she (a black lady) gave in a bowl slightly rounded beans including plenty of juice. I accepted the beans without comment finished selected my food and found a table. Close behind me was a black lady customer and two white older men and she had also had green beans but her bowl was different than mine. Her bowl had been packed down with juice drained and rounded up and wouldn't hold another bean. At least 2 1/2 times more than my bowl. Now I really don't mind if someone gets a little extra once in a while but this time it's been bothering me since then. I've seen instances where a older white man and woman clearly in need of help and no one would offer to help and at the same time break their neck to carry a black persons tray who looked able to carry their own.
