Power out? Omelette in. Our power went out, so we tried University Diner. Walked in, got seated instantly, and were greeted with orange cranberry muffins and fresh-squeezed OJ--worth the trip just for that. Menus looked like they'd survived a zombie apocalypse, but the western omelette was perfection--fluffy, loaded, and the best I've had in NC. Hashbrowns? Meh. Place was clean, service was great, manager checked in. Verdict: go for the omelette, stay for the muffins, skip the mystery potatoes.

I heard wonderful things about breakfast but we arrived just past noon on the weekend and ordered from the lunch and dinner menu. Service was quite slow. We waited for over 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server and equally long before drinks arrived. I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad which arrived well after everyone else at the table received their food and incomplete. The salad was one of the priciest on the menu, presumably because of the numerous ingredients. The salad arrived with cheddar cheese (should've been bleu cheese crumbles), one piece of egg and one piece of tomato. I was missing the bacon, red onions, Kalamata olives, and avocado. Again, it took awhile and numerous flags to receive attention. She eventually brought a small bowl of bacon, grilled onions and olives. After I pointed out I was still missing the avocado, I received avocado paste. Ultimately, by the time I ate, the salad was fine as the chicken was cooked well, salad greens were fresh and dressing was tasty. The gentleman who I assume was the manager was pleasant but based on the fact that there was no acknowledgment of errors and the negative overall experience, I'm not in a rush to go back.

We were greeted warmly when we arrived. The waitress was friendly enough and it didn't take too long for the food to arrive. These are the reasons it's getting a 2. The interior ambiance was cold as in non inviting. Had about the same vibe as a school cafeteria except the food wasn't as good. I had the roasted chicken and there were two sauce alternatives I choose the BBQ. Not sure what in the heck they put on that chicken but in no way was it BBQ. Had a nasty flavor. My dining partner said the meatloaf was ah OK. I'm not going out to eat and ah OK food. We will not be re visiting.

We've been here twice and I have yet to be dazzled. Getting sat takes longer than it should - apparently the young lady behind the register is not allowed to seat you so she'll tell you someone will be right with you - so will 3-4 more people - then she'll take your name and you'll sit down only to stand up 10 seconds later to be sat. Service was better this round - a server came almost instantly instead of us having to wait 10 minutes. Last time we came for breakfast but it was past time and they were only serving lunch - which turned out to be fine because the lunch was amazing. This visit we got breakfast. They give out little cranberry orange muffins and fresh squeezed orange juice which is a nice touch, but it masks the unimpressive breakfast. I got steak and eggs - eggs were cooked as requested, but the steak wasn't. They also did not clean the flattop before cooking the steak so it was seasoned with flattop grime - not a good look. Nothing impressive about the toast, hashbrowns or pancakes - they taste the same as anywhere else you'll go. I do like that the bathrooms are in the foyer of one of the lobbies. It keeps things a bit separated. I'll be happy to go back for lunch or dinner, but probably won't be back for breakfast.

Convenient location and lots of options. Breakfast is a favorite from the omelettes to the waffles. Dinner favorites are the hamburger steak and grilled pork chops. Sundays special is chicken pot pie and it's delicious! Salads are another favorite. Service is always friendly. Plenty of seating and usually no wait unless you're there for breakfast and then the wait isn't too long.

I had an opportunity to try out university diner with a friend on my birthday for a nice breakfast. Upon arrival, parking was easy in their large lot. I Walked in and was immediately greeted and seated by a friendly hostess. We were sat at a comfortable booth. The entire restaurant appears recently renovated and floors tables and seats were clean. We tried out the breakfast special Which was $7.99 and included two pancakes or French toast two eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, or bacon and a drink, coffee I thought it was such a great deal. I was also surprised that it also included a small cup of juice and some freshly baked mini biscuits that were on the house. I was satisfied with the portion. It was kind of big but I would call it the perfect amount if you're looking to have a full breakfast. I ordered my eggs scrambled and they were cooked nice and fluffy with a good consistency. The hashbrowns were really good, crispy but not soggy. I went with the sausage links that were nicely grilled and juicy. The French toast was impressive, nicely toasted, not soggy and very flavorful. I really enjoyed everything and would definitely be coming back.

Great menu, good prices plus tasty food. The kids spaghetti with meats sauce and meatballs was super good according the person who ate it. The hamburger steak with onions and mushrooms was accompanied by a salad and sweet potato casserole. It was delicious and filling. The server kept the drinks filled. I ope others discover this place soon.

This place is great! My food was delicious and affordable, my server was so kind and personable, and the restaurant ambiance was calm and not overwhelming. I did go between meal times, so I'm sure it gets busy, but it wasn't when I went! This might just be a little hidden gem!

Spinach omelette add mushrooms, (seeded) rye toast, grits, coffee, & complimentary juice

The staff here were ALL very kind and helpful. I had the spinach omelette and added mushroom, along with the grits and rye toast, which was seated unfortunately. I was used to another restaurant who has seedless rye. I had no complaints. The grits had a good consistency and were nice and creamy and I love the way that my arm was cooked. I had to wait on the complementary muffins so the lady gave me to go box. I also enjoyed the complementary refresh, squeezed orange juice, and only noticed the juice machine (pictured) on my way out. Great little place close to my office so I will be back.

I came here with a large crowd. We used the banquet room. It was very spacious and comfortable for our group. The service was good and the food was really good as well. I would like to come back and try a few more menu items. Everything looks great on the menu! My hubby had the meatloaf and I had fish. I will definitely try them again.

I had a great experience at this local establishment the other day. I liked that they had tons of options; you could bring anyone here and they would be able to find something to eat. The only disappointment was that they don't serve breakfast all day, which meant I couldn't get some pancakes. However, the roasted chicken was delicious and juicy. My friend got the fried shrimp, and it was good. I had one, and they were fried well and not overdone. I liked the options as well, they had many sides to choose from to accompany the protein on offer. The parking was easy to access, and there was plenty of it. They were pretty dead when we arrived, so finding seating and parking was a breeze. I thought this was a cheap and good meal, I will be back here, and for breakfast next time!

This has been on the website since opening.

The lunch was ok but I didn't like the surcharge that was added because I used a bank card for payment. Also, I would like to be able to call in an order for pick up but the menu is not on their website. I spoke to the manager about this and he said the menu is on the website but it's not and they don't have menus that you can take home. Seems like they are starting off on the wrong foot.

Idk who made this Mac and cheese but this is criminal, nothing like the other photos or university kitchen

Aw a walk in it took about 45 mins to get seated but with Adjacency to good local bars time flew past. The service you received was as good as could be expected with a busy bay. The shrimp cocktail was tasty but the shrimp are extremely small and only 6 so definitely not a shareable. I had the chargrilled oysters and they had great potential. All the flavors were there but they were left a bit too long to cook and half my order was burnt. The soup was phenomenal, as was the peel and eat shrimp. I would love to go back on a day that isn't as hectic and hope for better oyster. The potato salad did make up for a couple of the black shells.

She had been there before and said the food was good and service wasn't too slow. There were no other customers eating in the establishment or waiting on food. A man came from the back, saw me and tuned around. Shortly after, another man came out and greeted me and asked how he could help. He seemed in a hurry, but I placed my order. The other girl's order came up and she showed it to me (see photo); she did purchase an extra piece of fish. When my food came out, I had a chat with Jack, who seems to be the one in charge. He's going through a lot with lack of workers. That explained a lot. He is very hospitable if you take the time to talk to him. I got home and sat down to eat. The Cole slaw was very watery- not my cup of tea. I was surprised to see purple juices from the purple cabbage that's in the cole slaw as well. I tasted my whiting, ordered as lemon pepper. I didn't taste lemon or pepper. I called Jack to make sure his cooks added the seasoning as ordered. He said it's a lemon pepper breading. I tasted the crispy hush puppies and they were great! The jumbo shrimp was succulent and deliciously cooked. I will definitely return for more jumbo shrimp or maybe the croaker next time. I also plan on trying the wings!!

The only small bit of inconvenience was that I didn't know what to expect on it. There were tomatoes but I took them off. So in the future, I would call and ask. My husband ate them with my leftover so it's not big deal but they should add a description to their online menu. Also, he said they were friendly when he went to the restaurant. Entrées followed in a reasonable time, no real issue there. Sammy G's has been in High Point for years and offers a wide menu with a little bit of everything. They also bring out little yeast rolls that are pretty good and they were warm when served. We started with the thin cut onion rings. My husband said "less than spectacular," and that sums it up. Some were sliced so thin you mostly tasted breading, and they were a bit greasy. I would skip these. He ordered the fish sandwich with Brussels sprouts (premium side with a small upcharge). The sandwich was okay, nothing special. The Brussels sprouts were good, nicely cooked with solid flavor. I had the Fratellis salad with greens, cranberries, feta, mozzarella, Granny Smith apples, and candied pecans, and added sirloin for an upcharge. They forgot the steak at first, but brought it out shortly after in a separate bowl. Not a big deal. The sirloin was cooked medium as requested, a little red inside and tender enough to cut easily. It had good flavor. I chose the apple cider vinaigrette, which worked well with the salad. I also ordered the chef's selection soup, which was supposed to be lobster bisque. If there was any lobster, it was microscopic. The flavor was slightly bitter and just not good. I asked for it to be taken off the bill. Service handled everything well, including the mistake with the steak and the soup. Atmosphere is casual tavern style, relaxed and easy for a weekday lunch. Must order: Fratellis salad with sirloin and apple cider vinaigrette (yummy), Brussels sprouts Heads up: Skip the thin cut onion rings and don't expect much from the bisque. Other soups, I've had here in the past have been great though.

The service was still wonderful and the food was really good. The sweet potato cornbread is one of my favs and the chicken wings and catfish bites were fried to perfection. It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.
