This place... is one of our top two places in Jamestown. (The other is Simply Thai right across the street.) Actually in the surrounding area too. Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu. We just had lunch at Southern Roots and really enjoyed it! I had the grilled chicken panini with sweet potato fries, and my coworker got the Jackson with squash--both were super good. The waitress was friendly and polite, and the place itself was nice and clean. It was a little loud inside, but nothing too crazy. I get takeout from here pretty often, and the food is always consistently good. I didn't get it this time, but I love their grilled Thai shrimp--it's definitely one of my favorites! Opting for a low key Valentine's day, my wife and I went for a drink Potent Potables, and ended up deciding to place an order for food to go from Southern Roots. On a holiday that is notorious for packed restaurants, we didn't want to deal with the crowds and headache, but were really surprised we were able to place to go over on their website, and pick it up in less that 20 minutes! Again, in keeping with low key , we decided to try their pizza, which we didn't even realize the offered until a few days earlier when a friend at Potent Potable's run club ordered one to go. It looked good, so we figured we'd try our own. Their menu offered 8 options, we decided to try sausage pizza, and meatloaf pizza. I've had their meatloaf in the past, and it's great, so on pizza had to be good! Using their website to order and pay was simple, very straight forward, and user friendly. I walked over after about 15 minutes, and the food was ready to go. The short interaction with staff was pleasant, despite them clearly being slammed. Brought our pizza's back next door, grabbed a drink, and enjoyed a tasty simple dinner! The pizza's are a bit small, if I had been hungrier, I could certainly have eaten a whole one on my own. When I tell you Southern Roots in Jamestown, NC was one of the best meals of my life... you truly have to experience it for yourself. My friend chose this location, and I'll be honest--those of us driving from Greensboro were skeptical. Even pulling up, I had questions. Why is the front door in the back? Why is the parking so limited? I walked in curious but unconvinced. That changed immediately. Inside, there's a large waiting area near the bar, and after tasting the food, I completely understood why there would be a wait. I arrived early (Greensboro girl who hasn't been to Jamestown in probably 10 years), so I headed to the bar where Asia was incredibly kind and welcoming. I asked about THC drinks and was thrilled they had my all-time favorite: Bodega Grape. Off to a strong start. Once the rest of our 10-person party arrived, we were seated at the community table, which felt perfect for the night. I randomly chose an appetizer for the table--cornbread--and this may have been one of the best decisions of my entire life. Omg. The chicken gravy alone deserves its own review. Add the honey butter? Life-altering. Truly. I also tried the shrimp appetizer, which was phenomenal. For my meal, I ordered the trout with crab meat (absolutely delicious), plus more cornbread (yes, again) and onion pie as my sides. No regrets. Across the table I sampled BBQ and Brussels sprouts--amazing. Someone else ordered the wedge salad, which was massive, and the fried okra pizza... hello!!! Incredible. Every single person at the table was raving about every bite. Not one miss. Just nonstop "you have to try this." It was a wonderful birthday celebration, and I cannot wait to return. We had a good time at Southern Roots. It's a beautiful space with plenty of natural light which was great and well needed for our lunch. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and a grilled chicken panini and both were pretty good. They had a ton of flavor and were really fresh. My friend had the caesar salad and she absolutely loved it. We have been dining at Southern Roots for years and years, but of late for whatever reason it had fallen off our radar. I do make sure to go each holiday season and pick up a few loaves of the rosemary focaccia for leftover sandwiches though! Yes, I am a regular baker, but at that time of year it's nice to have some help! Love the meatloaf, the roasted okra, and so many other fabulous, unique offerings! I got to say the vibes/ambiance the restaurant gives off is like having a meal in your own home with the level of comfortability it gives. The Thai styled shrimp were cooked to perfection and the sauce is always amazing(little sweet/savory with a kick of heat/spice).The flat iron skirt steak with the bourbon glaze was absolutely one of the best steaks I've ever had and it was cooked to a perfect medium temp. As always the potato mash was delightful and honestly unique in the sense of flavor/texture profile due not tasting anything like it before. I was recommended the fried eggplant fries by the waiter and they were absolutely delicious, they were the first thing gone from my plate. This was a cute spot that, as time passed, really picked up a crowd. The inside had a nice aesthetic to it. There was also outdoor seating. Parking seemed kind of tight, especially after they got packed. We got there a little bit before traditional dinner time, so there was no wait, and we were able to sit down right away. We were greeted upon entry, and everyone was so nice. Our server was a bit what you see is what you get, but he was kind. The food was decent. It was made well and had a bit of flavor. I had a crab cake for the appetizer; they give you a fried green tomato as well. The crack cake looks bigger than what it is because of the fried green tomato on the bottom, which could be a real treat if you're a fan of fried green tomatoes. I am not. The crabcake was pretty good, and it was your standard crab cake, which is typically pleasing for non-crabcake enthusiasts. The fish was fried well, and I am a sucker for hand-cut fries, so I enjoyed those. I was not a fan of the green beans at all. The blood orange margarita was delicious. The turtle cheesecake was pretty good. It's worth the try if you are interested. The turtle part of the cheesecake is in the crust. All in all, I enjoyed my meal. I have taken a student group to Southern Roots twice in recent weeks, and I have been very favorably impressed. On both occasions, despite having been tramping through woodland trails and being dusty and begrimed, we were treated as if we were royalty. Our servers were unfailingly polite and attentive, as well as prompt and knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu. On that note, the food is consistently delicious and swiftly delivered. One of my go to restaurants for a great meal and an even better selection of seasonal cocktails. The Yule time mule and mistletoe margarita were an immediate hit with the mule as the ultimate winner. The menu is farm to table/southern cuisine with all the fan favorites like meatloaf, green beans and collards and my favs fluffy cornbread and cheesy grits. The restaurant has a rustic, comfy feel and we're seated in the small window seats by the bar with bench seating and pillows. It was a little drafty on a cold winter evening so some curtains in that area might help. Our server was knowledgeable, fast and attentive and provided great recommendations as we struggled to select from a great menu and list of specials. My hubby was a bit disappointed that the short rib special was sold out but opted for the meatloaf. I selected that catfish wish was fresh, hot and well seasoned. Southern Roots has been a favorite of ours for years. Every dish is consistently delicious! Expect a little bit of a wait on the weekends, especially if it is cold outside but it's worth it! Once the weather warms up a little, they have a good number of tables on the patio. They have a nice online waitlist that allows you to keep track of your place if you decide to run next door to Potent Potables or grab a drink at their bar while you wait. Their menu has a decent selection ranging from apps, sandwiches, and pizzas to upscale entrees. It can be difficult narrow it down if you are hungry because it is all so good! Some of my regular favorites are the fried green tomatoes, salad pizza, Thai fried shrimp, the Billy Bob sandwich, and the Cajun Catfish. Last night my husband picked one of the specials: country fried steak with gravy, fried brussels with a sweet chili glaze, and green beans. I went with my usual Cajun Catfish with collards and mashed potatoes. The fish was a nicely sized portion with 2 filets that were light, flaky, and perfectly fried. His dish was the winner of the evening. You could put that gravy on anything! The service is always top notch. Even with bit of a wait, we were in and out in an hour and a half. Service took the experience in a positive direction from the start and the ambiance was buzzy yet relaxing. The Blood Orange Crush was a delightful light summer tequila cocktail with an orange sugar rim. Definitely right to kick off your summer nights on their patio. The Black n' Bleu salad flat iron steak was done right with fresh greens, roasted Roma tomatoes and Carmelized onions. Southern roots has been a go to for me for date night and girls night out for over a decade! If I want co distantly delicious food and service, I know this is where to do. I've been obsessed with their pulled pork quesadilla and cornbread for as long as I can remember. I'd love to try other apps but I just can't because these two are so good. It was my first time trying steak and I have to say it was seasoned and cooked to utter perfection. My go to sides are always grits and okra and you can't convince me to get anything else. Just so so good. The only thing is they don't take reservations so make sure you either get there early or be prepared to wait, but it's worth it! read more

I ordered a filet, medium rare . It was nicely seared on the outside, and medium rare on the inside. Just perfect. My sides were butternut squash and stir fry veggies. My only complaint with the veggies was too many onions. My spouse has a giant Caesar salad which was delicious, but he could not finish. My son got gumbo and absolutely loved it. My DIL got seafood risotto. It had huge scallops and she was very happy. But for dessert, I ordered the Godiva chocolate mousse cheesecake with an Oreo crust. I split it with my DIL. It was heavenly. Came to High Point on a February early to beat the snow for a class in the morning and decided to Yelp a place for lunch and found Southern Roots in Jamestown! Aja was my server and she was very welcoming and friendly. She told me about the special and helped me decide on the seafood risotto for my entree. The restaurant is in a renovated building on Main Street and the entrance is off the back of the building where there is ample parking. The dining room is bright with, as you might guess, southern decor! I am sipping on my second Arnold Palmer waiting for my main course to arrive... And there it is..... I enjoyed the seafood risotto on a cold day while I watched the snow fall! It had shrimp, a scallop and mushrooms. The cornbread with the sweet butter added to the meal. It was the kind of comforting meal that is appreciated on a cold day. I will keep SR on my radar, especially since the training I drove to HP to attend was cancelled due to the snow. I'm not in that area much but I was having lunch with my mom one day and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try something that was new to both of us. It was prime lunch time when we arrived but it was a beautiful day so we opted to sit on the patio. It was a lovely area and I highly recommend sitting out there if you go and the weather is nice. Nothing wrong with the inside but eating outdoors just makes it feel more special and adds to the whole experience. My mom mentioned wanting a salad and Southern Roots had a lot of unique options. My mom ordered the petite size Southern Organic Salad and added chicken. After trying to decide between all the delicious options our server helped me decide and I ordered The Hill sandwich with a side of Sweet Potato fries. Our server was very friendly, attentive and kept our drinks filled and in no time our food was served. Both our meals looked delicious and one bite in we were both so happy we took the time to drive 30 min to come. Portions were very generous and my mom was happy she got the petite size salad I was only able to finish 1/2 my sandwich and I shared 1/2 my sweet potato fries with my mom too! We were stuffed with we left. I plan to come again for sure! It was so good and I definitely want to try so many other items on the menu. The waiter brought us cups that had been sitting on another table that I had seen when I walked by to the host stand. So I asked for two fresh cups of water, he said "Is it okay if I just go pour this out and refill it?" I said no please get me new cups . We were set outside (we asked to be) but then we could hear their internal ambiance music from the speakers plus the band from across the road (just a hint, double check what's going on at the deck if you want to be able to have a conversation outside while dining). My Aperol Spritz was watered down with no taste with ice water poured on top of it. The collard greens were not cooked all the way so they were basically just like plastic. There was a picture of water he was serving us from that was sitting outside uncovered. After years of working under James Beard winners and nominees, I guess I felt a little disenchanted. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday night which was unusual; we hadn't been to Southern Roots in about 7 years and something has changed to make it an unpleasant experience. One thing as a suggestion: in warm months, when you have diners outside, please place coasters on the table or under the glasses. Seating area around the bar is a bit cramped but I feel like when it's warmer outside that wouldn't be a big issue. Restaurant is very clean and loved the overall vibe and feel of the place! Southern Roots is a longtime favorite for us. I can honestly say I've never had anything I didn't like here, and we've been coming for years. I love the vibe of the place, the old soul music, the fresh, local produce and meats and everything is house made. Service is always great! They have lots of staple menu items, but also have daily specials. It's a date night spot for me and the hubs, but it is kid friendly and there is a kids menu. My husband loves the meatloaf and the stuffed chicken is very good. I've tried many of their fish specials and they've never disappointed. Highly recommend the eggplant fries as a side option. Southern Roots is a favorite! My husband and I both attended HPU so it was a nice place to eat when parents visited or a good meal for someone's birthday. It's been a while since we visited and stopped in recently for an early dinner. We arrived at 430 (yes, a very early dinner). The appetizers we've tried have been good--the fried green tomatoes are spectacular. But we collectively agree the absolute best way to start your meal is with the rosemary loaf. It's a focaccia style rosemary bread, served hot with some sort of herb butter. If I was going alone, I'd still order it! (It comes in a half loaf too!) I ordered the stuffed chicken. It's a baked chicken with a blue cheese spread inside the chicken and the outside has herbs. It's very tasty. It came with two sides. I got a Caesar side salad and cheesy grits. The salad is crisp, fresh with homemade croutons and Roma tomatoes. I'm not usually wild about tomatoes in general, but these made the salad so much better. I couldn't tell if the tomatoes were roasted or how they were prepared but they tasted great. The Caesar dressing was really nice, sometimes Caesar can be too thick and goopy without a lot of flavor. This dressing was very flavorful and nicely coated the salad. My husband got the catfish. For him, this catfish is the one he compares all other fried catfish too. I think it's his go-to, which is funny because he likes to try new things at restaurants. The catfish is served with two sides as well. He ordered the okra and eggplant fries. I didn't try the okra (I was too full!) But I would make room for the eggplant fries. I will be the first to tell you I don't like eggplant but if it is the eggplant fries from Southern Roots then I am a fan! The eggplant fries are crisp and flavorful, they melt in your mouth. We've never had bad service either, whether we've sat inside or outside. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable with a nice vibe. It's perfect for a date or joining friends. I'd recommend it as it's been a favorite of ours for over 10 years. PS--I texted some college friends to let them know where we ate dinner. I was seated a very nice table as a solo diner. I ordered the Grilled Romaine Salad and an Okra Pizza - both excellent. Portions are too much for a solo dinner, but I did put a dent in both. My service was very good. I also noted that the highly competent waitperson provided great service to the tables near me. One diner ordered an entree that proved too spicy for her. This is my first time going here, and I hope to go there again to get a better idea of what is offered. We made reservations for Valentine's day which was SUCH a good idea because this place was PACKED. Our waitress was incredibly kind and although she was so busy and I could see she was stressed she kept a smile on her face and made sure we were taken care of. First, we ordered the Rosemary Bread which I found to be PHENOMENAL. We ordered half a loaf and I couldn't stop eating it. I also ordered a Cheery RP which is a seasonal cocktail, I enjoyed it, very heavy on the orange flavor. My girlfriend and I both ordered the Cajun Catfish which was served with a spiced tartar sauce. I would rate that dish itself a 4/5. My problems came with my sides. I ordered the brussels sprouts which I don't know if they were meant to come out as crispy as they did? I just know I was not a fan. It was like the texture of dried seaweed that you'd eat. My sweet potatoes fries were also burnt. My girlfriend's sides came out well though, she really enjoyed her collards and her eggplant fries came out perfect. Because it was so busy it was very loud, but I enjoy the atmosphere of people gathering and talking, they also had an outdoor seating area.
