two plates of food on a table

Always worth the trip, good food, good company, and delightful wait staff. For entertainment, you can't beat listening to old farmers and old friends solving the problems of the world over coffee and eggs.

Old fashioned diner with basic menus, but the food was good! Always eat where locals eat when away from home!

Serving American classics with high quality and great hospitality…read more Sandwiched between two floors of antique malls, Jack's was the perfect stop in the day to get some no-frills nourishment. Their breakfast is incredibly generous and made with ingredients that were fresh, clean, and meticulous in detail. The design of their menu is just so promising with unique twists that are not unheard of, but just an elevated touch when it comes to American diner food as a whole. Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked. Came in with friends so we can try everything on their menu, and we were pleasantly surprised on all fronts. Presentation, ingredients, preparation all elements that made our meals great and were evident across all dishes ranging from protein to carb. Details like toasted bread with already spread with butter, perfectly poached eggs, and brioche as the bun of choice were things we peeped. We would have left satisfied if these details weren't accounted for, but we were so impressed this became a revisit during our short vacation. Their space is greatly spacious, with an open drinks station so its just not pretentious. There is even a section in the front to pick up goods made by local artisans. This is a great place to dine in, no notes.

The atmosphere in the dining room was nice and airy. As we were traveling a good distance I decided to get the renowned cinnamon roll to go . I got a take out coffee and was told there would be a brief wait. After several minutes-a roll came out on a plate. Someone asked what I was there for. I said I'm for a cinnamon roll to go. The busy manager said they take 10 minutes After 20 minutes my husband came in to find me -the roll appeared soon after. I'm a quiet type person , I took the roll and left . It was very good. Message -order the cinnamon roll prior to meal.

While returning from a family mountain weekend getaway, we needed a spot for a late breakfast/early lunch. Just off the main highway, Bearrr Appetit appeared tucked into the beautiful Lydia Mountain Lodge. The drive up is scenic but very narrow, so expect to slow down and enjoy the drive. The lodge itself is cozy and rustic with a touch of elegance. The actual dining area feels intimate with gorgeous mountain views appearing both inside and with outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is highly recommended--though it was raining during our visit and mostly wet, with some covered tables and seating. Service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was warm and attentive, and Sidney, who served us, was especially accommodating and friendly. Everyone that was working seemed to be focused on service. As for the food--it was fantastic. We ordered a mix of breakfast and lunch items (eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sandwiches), and everything exceeded expectations. Overall, Bearrr Appetit combines breathtaking views, great service, and delicious food in a charming mountain setting. It's a true hidden gem worth the detour. We look forward to visiting again, hopefully as guests at the lodge!

I was in what SEEMED to be the middle of Nowhere,VA recently, doing some fire department things. I caught up with a department friend who lives in the area, who decided lunch would be at Mr. J's Elkton Express. I wasn't skeptical, but I also wasn't optimistic. But I do trust Tim, so off we went. What a lovely surprise! A lot of their menu seems focused on bagels, so count me in! Though I'm marginally a bagel snob, as I worked in NYC for many years. But my breakfast sandwich, on a toasted Everything, was incredible. Coffee was tops, too. Small town feel. Even though people didn't know each other, there was chit chat, friendly banter, the type of community and connection that seems sorta cliche but is so very heartwarming in person. So. Great service. Excellent bagels and sandwiches. Pretty good coffee. Zero complaints. Definitely a good place to pop in for a quick lunch, get snackies to go, or even grab a bunch of bagels and sides for a party or meeting.

Simply put, the bodega breakfast sandwich might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten. I took it to eat on the road and was startled about how delicious it was. The freshly baked (you can tell) brioche bun with everything bagel seasoning on top added a great salty taste to go along with the tasty stuff inside. I think it was because they enjoyed working there. Or, at least it give them a chance to eat some really tasty food. I had their Cubano Tartine. That's kind of like an omelet with the ingredients of a Cubano sandwich, except for the roll, mixed in. (And yes, I get that the cooking process is a bit different.) ' Anyway, this Cubano Tartine shows up on a plate in front of me. I dig in and keep digging. The ingredients, ham, cheese, pickles, etc, were plentiful and delicious. They were sitting on an ample slice of their sourdough bread. That was the first issue. It was IMPOSSIBLE to cut. I guess I could have asked for a steak knife or maybe a power tool. But, there was so much other stuff that I was able to have a very filling meal without it. The other issue was that the lightly dressed side salad was doused in dressing. Again, didn't complain because, for me, it wasn't a problem during this visit. Issues aside, if I come back to Hagerstown, I'll look for an excuse to come back.
