First, let me say, ITS BEHIND WENDYS!!! Then go down the hill. It's a challenge to find. I searched Breakfast in Ruckersville and Rylies Diner popped up. Menu said creamed Chipped Beef Gravy so I was off! Um wow. Once I found the diner, I was already worried. It seemed a bit... outside the community box. I don't even know what that means but that's how I felt. I walked in and this totally cheerful waitress, met me at the door, in costume. (It was Halloween Day), she was super nice. I ordered a full portion chipped beef gravy and two scrambled eggs with coffee. Coffee had that second day taste, stays with you half the day. Chipped Beef Gravy wasn't homemade, but to be fair I didn't ask them if it was, beforehand. Eggs were good. -I wouldn't make repeat visits but I will, again give a shout out to the waitress. What a total superstar she is. $20 with tip. read more

It used to be the happenin' place to go for breakfast, but no more. 20 $ for a breakfast is too much. 18 $ and of course leave at least a measley tip. Little Bantum eggs too. I like the big ones. A true hidden Gem, hidden is the keyword. It's in the shopping center behind Wendy's down around back. It's not much to look at kind of a hole in the wall. We were seated and our order was taken pretty quickly. However, it went downhill from there. The one restroom was not available due to a previous customer's situation. It would be appreciated for a staff member to quickly make the restroom available again. My order was for hot food which was delivered in a reasonable time. But the chili was lukewarm. My husband ordered a chef salad. It didn't come. I finished my meal. He went to the counter to pay for my meal and the server said his salad was ready and would he like it. He responded that it didn't matter anymore because he needed to leave. He told them he needed to use the restroom and theirs wasn't available so we need to leave now. Another server said he was being rude to them. At no time did he get rude. He requested the bill so we could go. They boxed his salad and he paid and we left. He shouldn't have been charged for the salad since it was so late in coming, or at the least been given a discount. We will not be returning. read more

I feel like even the food we were served in the army had more seasoning. I've had white bread with more flavor. I'm truly sorry, it's not a negative on staff. This place is very difficult find. You would have no idea there even was a restaurant back there. The decor is very old and outdated. The service wasn't great either. The food was cold and bland. The location was nearly impossible to find. We thought that might bode well but unfortunately it did not. The place was clean, decor was a mosh mash of random things and personal pictures. They had tvs playing soaps. We ordered and they were out of one of their daily specials. After ordering they came back and said they were out of something else. There were lots of choices but it was a disappointment. All three meals we ordered came out and we're not great. The shrimp and the flounder were sad. The patty melt had so much Mayo it was disgusting. The only good thing was the homemade chips. The only great thing was the server who was the only one in the whole place and she was friendly and apologetic. On top of all the negatives... it was a very expensive lunch. The salt, pepper and sugar containers are filthy and have not been wiped down in a long time. A man yelled at another man on crutches for sitting at a table for 6. This place is great! They have the best Steak and Cheese sandwich anywhere. A sandwich like this is ruined with the roll. They must ship these rolls in from Phillie and I've had those rolls. We've driven through Ruckersville literally a dozen times through the years without knowing that this restaurant was there given its "hidden" location behind the Wendy's. Today, after a few days camping and hiking in Shenandoah National Park, we went looking specifically for it based on its Yelp reviews. *Food. Husband ordered one of the specials -- half-order of sausage gravy with biscuit and 2 over-MEDIUM eggs ($8.95) , and coffee ($?). A huge biscuit was cut in half, and smothered with the sausage gravy. The portion was large, and the Item was tasty -- although the quantity of sausage was on the low side and the item was quite salty. (Note that a full order would get you 2 full biscuits, each cut in half, smothered in gravy). The eggs were prepared over-easy -- not over-medium as ordered --with a gush of yellow yolks spilling onto his plate when broken. Coffee "wasn't too good" for my husband's taste. He preferred a bolder coffee. I also ordered a half-order of sausage gravy with biscuit ($5.95) plus a side scrambled egg ($1.00) and hot tea with creamer ($?) Review for the first item as above. The scrambled egg was prepared as expected, and the tea was to my liking (teabag with strong black tea leaves). *Service. We arrived around 11 am and there was only one other couple in the restaurant (who were finishing up). We sat ourselves, and were greeted quickly by the friendly waitress, who immediately took our drinks order and gave us the menu (breakfast/lunch). Our food was prepared, and brought to us quickly, it seems by the cook himself. Unfortunately, we needed to go looking for the waitress to ask for a coffee refill and a glass of water, and later to ask how to pay. *Value. Excellent. Total bill was about $21-$22; we were full when leaving. *Ambiance. Has the feel of a local diner. Not particularly fancy, but comfortable enough for a homey breakfast. Quite a few seemingly local patrons started to come in for lunch as our breakfast was winding down. One thing that gave us pause as we entered the diner... There is a sign on the door that firearms are allowed on premises, with instructions for how they are to be handled while on-site. With this sign, is the establishment encouraging gun-carrying persons to frequent this diner? Clientele while we were there appeared to be local retirees or workers. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. Food has no flavor and is completely overpriced. I have given them several opportunities to become better just for instance, to hot dogs, a bowl of chili and fries $28. The hotdogs were completely burnt. The chili was watered down and had no flavor. Never again. read more

Service is down home good. This is service worth tipping. Great atmosphere and the food was exactly what I expected. After Sunday service, I am not really a fast food, chain restaurant fan. This place hits the spot and was welcoming through and through. Being a little over 8300 miles from home on Guam, I got a sense of family here. It kinda helped video chatting with my girls back home. Tucked beneath and behind the building, this little gem of a diner, was hard to find. We came on a recommendation, and we were not disappointed. I'm (admittedly) tough to please with my eggs-- over medium NO whites runny-- and they arrived, first go round, cooked to perfection! Our Server a sweet young lady, with an "I've got it under control," attitude was pleasant, prompt and efficient. She checked back frequently, regarding beverages and our satisfaction with the meal. "So," you ask, "why only 4-stars?" Well, two reasons. The two large TVs were too loud for my comfort, and the coffee... on a scale of 1-10, that coffee was maybe a 2 and that was only because the temperature was perfect and there was an abundance of real sugar and half and half. A little hole in the wall place but the food is fairly GOOD ! It is better than it used to be pre-COVID, and I appreciate that there is a hostess now, who acknowleges people as they come in and alerts the waitress. Their coffee is good and strong so that's a plus. The menu could use some more variety easily however and more seafood selections The locals ( people they obviously know ) get preferential treatment and are served and waited on first. They could use some gravy varieties because right now their gravy is awful and there's just two kinds. One is strong and overwhelmed with onions. The other is the rednecky kind of sausage stuff, loaded with black pepper. ( Look out heartburn ! ) I guess they never heard of just plain brown gravy ?? You may get lucky and won't have to sit beside families who used bad judgement and brought babies along ( that always kills a meal ). A little eye contact and friendly convo from the waitress goes a long way. I will be back, especially for breakfast. Specify if you want your hash browns browned, because now they are hash tans !
