Breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and breakfast special!
    Roe B.

This place is fantastic I truly have never had a biscuit so delicious everything was cooked perfect and the service was fantastic they were so sweet. Very quaint place and peaceful and homey I had such a good time I came back the next day!

Breakfast Special with crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, home fries and toast.

Small place, big on taste! This is a great little spot with a hometown feel. True to its name, there was a table full of men sharing local news with each other and enjoying an easy banter of one another. I chose the breakfast special of scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, home fries and toast. My husband chose the sausage gravy over a biscuit and an over medium egg. We were both very pleased with our meal and found it to be the closest to home cooking we have found in a while.

    Garbage omelette.

Definitely has the small diner vibe with counter service and orange booths, which I like. Friendly southern home-town service with country music playing. I had a garbage omelette and rye toast which I enjoyed. If you like simple diners, you may enjoy the Grub and Gab Diner.

Ham, egg and cheese on a biscuit

Based on reviews I decided to stop and try Grub & Grab for breakfast since it's close to Massanutten. The diner is small, has a country feel and was filled with locals. Given the surrounding area is farm land, I thought the recycled feed bag curtains were a cute touch. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. I ordered the ham, egg and cheese on a biscuit. It was tasty, hefty, filling and inexpensive. My whole meal, coffee included, was less than $10. Overall I'd give this place 5/5.

    "bowl of grits" with cheese
    Cheryl S.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COST! This place is a tiny little hole in the wall diner whose owner must be the cook with a HUGE terrible attitude if you, the customer, don't like something. That's not the way to run a diner. I ordered a BOWL of grits ($3.50) with CHEDDAR cheese. They delivered a small bowl (the size used for condiments and side dishes) of grits. I specifically had a conversation with the server to ensure the cheese would be cheddar and she assured me it would. They served a shredded MIXED cheese of cheddar and who knows what white cheese. I had already stirred in the cheese before taking the picture, but you can clearly see some white cheese on the spoon handle. I decided to inquire about the cheese and small bowl size and that's when it all hit the fan. I asked the server to take it back and remove it from my order. She said "I can't take it back." When I told her that I would not pay for it, she went to the cook and said, "Mama, she said she's not going to pay for the grits." Next thing I know, a woman (the cook) comes from behind, swoops by the table, snatches up the grits AND MY WATER! and keeps briskly walking to the other end of the restaurant. On her way back, I confronted her about taking my water and all hell broke loose with her lecturing me. When I told her she didn't need to have such an attitude, her response was that I had an attitude from the moment I walked in! Then she just continued to loudly fuss at me. I was done being berated and treated like dirt. I left. BUT, one of the points she made sure to state, was that tax was included in the prices already on their menu. Then, when the other person who was dining with me left, his order was $10.75 on the menu, was supposed to include the coffee and taxes. They charged him $13.00! Whatever. Not only was his food "just okay", not up to "good" even, they yell at their customers and then overcharge them terribly. Lastly, their menu items are deceiving as well. They are selling orange juice for $2 a cup and it turns out it is SunnyD (less than 5% real juice). If you care about what goes into your body, this definitely isn't the place to go. Leave this place to the local yocals and find a real restaurant that actually cares about what they serve and how they treat the customer. CAN'T SAY YOU AREN'T WARNED. And, to respond to her reply below ... she is wrong. I'm usually very tolerant and happy with most things. She is trying to make herself look right and me look bad with those comments. Not surprised after the experience I just had. By the way, the hot chocolate, which was NOT supposed to be charged, since I didn't stay to drink it, was only $1.50 (same price as coffee ... that I asked to sub for). $10.75 +1.50 = $12.25. How is that $13? I'll leave it there. Like I said, can't say you aren't warned.

Highly recommend stopping in! Local spot, great atmosphere, fast service. They split tips, be sure to support the cook and serving staff.

My first visit, and it did not disappoint. Great food and great service...the biscuits and gravy were huge!

The hotel is clean, modern, and reasonably priced, but honestly, the real highlight is the Ridge Room. After a long day on the road, I really don't want to get back in the car to find dinner, so having a rooftop restaurant just steps from the room is perfect. The mountain views are great, and the farm-to-table menu is always interesting. We've eaten here several times, and it has never disappointed. The food is consistently good, and the bartenders know what they're doing--the drinks are just as solid as the meals. It's one of those places where the menu might not immediately grab you, but once you try the food, it all clicks. Definitely a spot we'll keep coming back to.

I have found the front staff and the wait staff to be lacking in their consideration towards restaurant guests. It seems that they are picking and choosing whom they choose to grant a great experience to. Service: The front staff and waitress we had carried an air of attitude when dealing with me and my family. It seemed like they were not keen to accommodate a few of our basic requests which essentially boiled down to laziness. To be honest, they are very petty when it comes to getting a table on their rooftop...when my family (of 5) came in, they told us it was first come first serve and sat us inside. Another family came in with 3-4 adults and 2 kids after we were seated, to which they promptly moved them outside even though they were inside as well when a spot opened up. I'm not truly understanding the mentality of service here and frankly thought for a nice establishment there would be better decorum and attitude towards guests. Food: overall pretty good. I found the food and drink to be solid. In summary, the food is good here but doesn't surpass the service we received.

We ate in the bar - loved the vibe down there! The food was amazing! We started with salads - Caesar for the Hubby (as usual) and the Spring Salad for me (I subbed blue cheese for the goat cheese - I'm not a fan of goat cheese). Both salads were super fresh. They make their dressings in house and it shows. Ribeye rare for the Hubby and Filet mid-rare for me. We both had the crème fresh mashed potatoes. Steaks were cooked perfectly. And let me tell you, if you get anything, GET THE MASHED POTATOES!!! I swear these were the best I have ever had in my life. No joke - that includes my homemade and my Moms and Grandma's. Seriously. It's worthy to note that I asked for salt & pepper, as there was none on the table. It takes a really confident chef to not have salt & pepper on the table. So of course, I tasted first. I honestly did NOT use not one grain of either. The food didn't need it. Everything was seasoned perfectly! We ended the meal with crème brûlée, because if it's on the menu, we are ordering it. It was exceptional! Easily the second best we've ever had - and we've eaten a LOT of crème brûlée in our years. The service was absolutely spot on. While returning from a family mountain weekend getaway, we needed a spot for a late breakfast/early lunch. The lodge itself is cozy and rustic with a touch of elegance. The actual dining area feels intimate with gorgeous mountain views appearing both inside and with outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is highly recommended--though it was raining during our visit and mostly wet, with some covered tables and seating. Service was excellent from start to finish.
