Breakfast Special with crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, home fries and toast.

Small place, big on taste! This is a great little spot with a hometown feel. True to its name, there was a table full of men sharing local news with each other and enjoying an easy banter of one another. I chose the breakfast special of scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, home fries and toast. My husband chose the sausage gravy over a biscuit and an over medium egg. We were both very pleased with our meal and found it to be the closest to home cooking we have found in a while.

Definitely has the small diner vibe with counter service and orange booths, which I like. Friendly southern home-town service with country music playing. I had a garbage omelette and rye toast which I enjoyed. If you like simple diners, you may enjoy the Grub and Gab Diner.

Ham, egg and cheese on a biscuit

Based on reviews I decided to stop and try Grub & Grab for breakfast since it's close to Massanutten. The diner is small, has a country feel and was filled with locals. Given the surrounding area is farm land, I thought the recycled feed bag curtains were a cute touch. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. I ordered the ham, egg and cheese on a biscuit. It was tasty, hefty, filling and inexpensive. My whole meal, coffee included, was less than $10. Overall I'd give this place 5/5.

    "bowl of grits" with cheese

STAY AWAY AT ALL COST! This place is a tiny little hole in the wall diner whose owner must be the cook with a HUGE terrible attitude if you, the customer, don't like something. That's not the way to run a diner. I ordered a BOWL of grits ($3.50) with CHEDDAR cheese. They delivered a small bowl (the size used for condiments and side dishes) of grits. I specifically had a conversation with the server to ensure the cheese would be cheddar and she assured me it would. They served a shredded MIXED cheese of cheddar and who knows what white cheese. I had already stirred in the cheese before taking the picture, but you can clearly see some white cheese on the spoon handle. I decided to inquire about the cheese and small bowl size and that's when it all hit the fan. I asked the server to take it back and remove it from my order. She said "I can't take it back." When I told her that I would not pay for it, she went to the cook and said, "Mama, she said she's not going to pay for the grits." Next thing I know, a woman (the cook) comes from behind, swoops by the table, snatches up the grits AND MY WATER! and keeps briskly walking to the other end of the restaurant. On her way back, I confronted her about taking my water and all hell broke loose with her lecturing me. When I told her she didn't need to have such an attitude, her response was that I had an attitude from the moment I walked in! Then she just continued to loudly fuss at me. I was done being berated and treated like dirt. I left. BUT, one of the points she made sure to state, was that tax was included in the prices already on their menu. Then, when the other person who was dining with me left, his order was $10.75 on the menu, was supposed to include the coffee and taxes. They charged him $13.00! Whatever. Not only was his food "just okay", not up to "good" even, they yell at their customers and then overcharge them terribly. Lastly, their menu items are deceiving as well. They are selling orange juice for $2 a cup and it turns out it is SunnyD (less than 5% real juice). If you care about what goes into your body, this definitely isn't the place to go. Leave this place to the local yocals and find a real restaurant that actually cares about what they serve and how they treat the customer. CAN'T SAY YOU AREN'T WARNED. And, to respond to her reply below ... she is wrong. I'm usually very tolerant and happy with most things. She is trying to make herself look right and me look bad with those comments. Not surprised after the experience I just had. By the way, the hot chocolate, which was NOT supposed to be charged, since I didn't stay to drink it, was only $1.50 (same price as coffee ... that I asked to sub for). $10.75 +1.50 = $12.25. How is that $13? I'll leave it there. Like I said, can't say you aren't warned.

Highly recommend stopping in! Local spot, great atmosphere, fast service. They split tips, be sure to support the cook and serving staff.

My first visit, and it did not disappoint. Great food and great service...the biscuits and gravy were huge!

Someone needs to update the business hour on Yelp. My family and I went there on Wednesday (12/28/2022) at around 10am and it was close.

I think it was because they enjoyed working there. Or, at least it give them a chance to eat some really tasty food. I had their Cubano Tartine. That's kind of like an omelet with the ingredients of a Cubano sandwich, except for the roll, mixed in. (And yes, I get that the cooking process is a bit different.) ' Anyway, this Cubano Tartine shows up on a plate in front of me. I dig in and keep digging. The ingredients, ham, cheese, pickles, etc, were plentiful and delicious. They were sitting on an ample slice of their sourdough bread. That was the first issue. It was IMPOSSIBLE to cut. I guess I could have asked for a steak knife or maybe a power tool. But, there was so much other stuff that I was able to have a very filling meal without it. The other issue was that the lightly dressed side salad was doused in dressing. Again, didn't complain because, for me, it wasn't a problem during this visit. Issues aside, if I come back to Hagerstown, I'll look for an excuse to come back.

Simply put, the bodega breakfast sandwich might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten. I took it to eat on the road and was startled about how delicious it was. The freshly baked (you can tell) brioche bun with everything bagel seasoning on top added a great salty taste to go along with the tasty stuff inside. I've traveled all over the country for work for 20+ years, and like I said, this might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had! To top it off, the staff was super nice.

I was in what SEEMED to be the middle of Nowhere,VA recently, doing some fire department things. I caught up with a department friend who lives in the area, who decided lunch would be at Mr. J's Elkton Express. I wasn't skeptical, but I also wasn't optimistic. But I do trust Tim, so off we went. What a lovely surprise! A lot of their menu seems focused on bagels, so count me in! Though I'm marginally a bagel snob, as I worked in NYC for many years. But my breakfast sandwich, on a toasted Everything, was incredible. Coffee was tops, too. Small town feel. Even though people didn't know each other, there was chit chat, friendly banter, the type of community and connection that seems sorta cliche but is so very heartwarming in person. So. Great service. Excellent bagels and sandwiches. Pretty good coffee. Zero complaints. Serving American classics with high quality and great hospitality…read more Sandwiched between two floors of antique malls, Jack's was the perfect stop in the day to get some no-frills nourishment. Their breakfast is incredibly generous and made with ingredients that were fresh, clean, and meticulous in detail. The design of their menu is just so promising with unique twists that are not unheard of, but just an elevated touch when it comes to American diner food as a whole. Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked. Came in with friends so we can try everything on their menu, and we were pleasantly surprised on all fronts. Presentation, ingredients, preparation all elements that made our meals great and were evident across all dishes ranging from protein to carb. Details like toasted bread with already spread with butter, perfectly poached eggs, and brioche as the bun of choice were things we peeped. We would have left satisfied if these details weren't accounted for, but we were so impressed this became a revisit during our short vacation. Their space is greatly spacious, with an open drinks station so its just not pretentious. There is even a section in the front to pick up goods made by local artisans. This is a great place to dine in, no notes.
