When we called the bar to get the unauthorized charge reversed, the bar was wholly uncooperative. We were forced to dispute the charge with our bank. Alright so it's one thing to not be comfortable to let us in because you're unsure of a California ID. But to say something isn't right with the ID just because you're not comfortable with California ids is 100% bullshit.As a bouncer you need to be confident in your ability to do your job. I've lived in Tacoma WA for three years, I'm generally unimpressed with the gay scene there, and what olympia has to offer is even worse. That leaves me a thirty minute drive to Seattle, and for my entire PacNW life, Seattle has been my go to girl for a good night. Until I went to CC Slaughters I went there on a friday night, by myself. The bouncer was extremely friendly, a nice break from the usual passive aggressive 'tough guy' we're used to, oh and no cover. Walking in I immediately saw the first bar, with a very hot bartender (Chris as I would come to learn was his name). I did a quick lap around the club to get acquainted with it. I feel deeply in love with this place. This is the first Gay Club that has everything you need for a great night of dancing and meeting new people. I frequently end up on a drunken rant about clubs that are just too loud, everywhere. Don't get me wrong, they have a killer sound system and lights that make you think you're in New York, but that is all in the 'club' section. The 'bar' section, which is down a hallway away from the dance floor (and the two bars out there) is what really sets this place apart. You walk into a very refined looking room with large windows facing the street, there are couches, and tables, and soft chairs, just everything you need to have a good conversation with someone cool that you met on the dance floor, AND you can hear them without having to yell. Don't forget, there was no cover fee. I went back to the main bar in the 'club section' and opened a tab with the aforementioned hot bartender, Chris. I went to that same bar for all my drinks that night, and after my second trip up, he knew me by name, and what I was drinking. That wasn't my only encounter with their fabulous staff that night. As I said I went out alone, and during one of my periods of standing alone overlooking the dance floor, the Lovely Bolivia Carmichaels, Female Impersonator (the title on her business card she gave me XD) was happy to keep me entertained for a while. The night went on and I got drunker and was just having a marvelous time. When it was time for me to pay out I had my last 'I fucking love this place' moment. I only spent half of what I usually spend in one night. Thats right, an amazing club, with superb employees, an immaculate sense of how a perfect nightclub should be not only does not charge a cover, but they also don't bend you over on drinks. I was sold, I had such a great evening, I decided to extend my trip another day, just so I could have another night at CC Slaughters. My second night was just as great, if not better than the first. Again, I was met by the same courteous bouncer who remembered me from the prior night. Adonis Chris, the bartender remembered me by name, and knew exactly what I was drinking. There is only one thing I could recommend to make this amazing nightclub even better. When I opened my tab, I was only able to get drinks from the bar at which my tab was opened. Not that I'm complaining about being able to deal with Chris. But I can't imagine that I am the first person to have that thought, and just want to put that out there as a possible improvement. Now I just need to quit my job and move to Portland. The reasons are really stacking up on me. read more

Best spot my boyfriend and I found to dance and drink. There is a 5.00 cover on Friday, not sure about other nights, but when we went there was one. Majority of the bars we visited we noticed there were covers, mostly only cash. We went to C C Slaughter's twice in one night, and had a pretty good time. Stopped by here twice during pride weekend. First was around 11 on a friday night. Not that busy, unremarkable crowd with little sex appeal. Stopped by again after a concert I was going to on the east side was cancelled. There was a line way down the block. My friend and I waited because we didn't feel like going to one of the frat bars nearby. When we finally got in you had to wait at least 15-20 minutes to get a drink. The crowd was really boring and there was no real vibe. How about hire a few extra bartenders on pride weekend so people don't have to lose their buzz waiting for drinks. It was a great Saturday evening during PRIDE weekend. I was with my friends who decided to go to this establishment. We were greatly anticipating this! Upon arrival, we stood in line for about an hour (which is expected during an event), we then went inside only to stand in line for 45 minutes. The bartender was not serving people in order and there was not even a bar back to assist. The remainder of the night seemed to be going okay although it is a very dirty place with horrible service. Following a brief time to actually socialize with friends, etc. I was harassed by two security guards. They claimed I was being confrontational and this definitely was not the case. My partner clearly stated that I was standing in line with him. They did not let me enjoy my visit, instead, they asked me to leave for no reason! At this point, we were very upset as we are locals, pay for them to keep their jobs, and giver money to this establishment. I decided to just give up and leave as it was not worth disputing. Before I left we did ask what the issue was and the security guard could not justify and then proceeded to insult me with a slur (of which I do not want to comment on here). Bottom line, this place is horrible and I would NEVER give them my time/money. This has never happened to me and there are plenty of other places to frequent in downtown Portland. Brian (the security) and the other security should not be able to work in a place of this capacity when you can't effectively do your job and verbally assault a patron in public. I do not condone bullying, racial, or sexual slurs which is why I decided to leave the one star along with this review. read more

so after a night of bar hopping with the girls we ended up here for a little dancing. granted i was already tipsy before entering i don't remember much of the decor. however what i do remember is the bouncer at the door being incredibly rude. he gave us all attitude upon entering. and not only was the bouncer at the door rude but so was the bouncer inside. a friend and i were walking up to the bar for some water and he approaches us and bans us from the bar saying we've had to much to drink. first of all we were only getting water and second neither of us were anywhere to the point where we needed to be banned. granted he was only doing his job but maybe he should be keeping an eye on people who really should be banned from the bar. this place gets two stars because dancing is always fun and they played decent dancing music. read more

Was here last weekend with my partner. It was probably about 9:45ish when we got there and not bad. Was not really sure what to expect. Two reasons, one been to the one in Puerto and live in LA. So from what I've herd this is like the place to be if you find yourself in town. People have also said that not best place for dancing on a Friday and yea I can vouch for that. I have been to worse clubs. But for a gay bar this was kinda lame. Sunday night drag queens had bad lip sync skills for most songs (though some songs were on que). One DQ, refused to work.the crowd, a shame because she was on que more often then others, and had more theatrical ability. Still when people in the crowd 1 row away are waving dollar bills towards her you kinda expect a little acknowledgement. I understand most DQ, don't really sing. But please people.. when you get in someones face please use mouthwash. Nothing makes a bad lip sync worse. read more

Being from NYC I was hoping to find a gay/lesbian friendly bar in Portland. I've been here about three times already and each time I regret it. The security guys are jerks (my date had to tell him she's transgender and on hormones and that's why she looks different), she even supplied extra ID. Whenever I supply ID they give me this glare, question if its really me (I wear hats sometimes) and they don't even greet or welcome anyone. Second time I walked in and all I saw was gay white dudes, so I guess it wasn't my night and we bounced out of there. Third time was tonight, which is hip hop night. Some tips 1. If you're a gay male you will get better treatment by the bartenders. Like other reviewers said, make one your friend! 2. Don't use a credit card. I bought 1. Cider and had to purchase a shot. What was the total? About 10.80 what?!? 3. If you're queer/lesbian/gay female bodied this really isn't a safe space to find someone to flirt with. 4. Don't expect it to be popping during weeknights. It could get very stagnant and empty. The dancers that were hired for this night, didn't even dance that much and they were getting paid. The music was great, but the atmosphere was off putting for me 5. One bartender complained about no one tipping, and I thought that was very unprofessional of him. No cover charge. Cheap drinks. Good dancing. This is the best gay dance club Portland currently has to offer. If you want a classy lounge feel, hang out in the Rainbow Room. If you want grungy dancing to mostly good music, head over to the dance floor side. Thurs - Sat are the busiest nights (peaking on Saturday). Sundays they have a free drag show from 8 - midnight. Be nice to your bartenders & security and they will be very nice to you :-) No bachelorette parties allowed. Duh. read more

I usually love this club, but tonight, I took my friend into the bathroom with me because I was being followed by two straight boys all night and felt unsafe, he opened the door while my friend was using the restroom, and told us to get out, my friend finished and started to leave, he continued to tell us to leave, I told him I needed to use the restroom and he wouldn't let me and refused to shut the door. It was a total invasion of privacy, I felt totally uncomfortable, I needed to use the restroom and he refused to let me. I am so disappointed and disgusted by the treatment I received tonight. Really solid queer-friendly club space for Portland - felt totally comfortable bringing a queer/straight mixed group of eight here. The music and go-go dancers were great this past Friday night, and the venue itself is large enough to have a fairly crowded dancefloor but room elsewhere to spread out. $2 wells until 11pm was a nice touch, especially given that there's a cover. read more

We are new to town and went on 2/5/2011, after having been told it was the best place in town we were sadly disappointed. Apparently it was on a night of some Drag Ball and it was very festive, but we found most of the people very rude and agressive, God willing you save a table and some Queens decide to barg in and make their big asses at home without even asking. This town used to be friendly and not so douchy. Dear Mr. Bar Owner, please note, when you run a 1 hour drink promo could you please put in some more bartenders so that people can get a couple of drinks. It took 1/2 hour to get 1 drink. We were going to get a martini at R&R and the line was so long with only 1 bartender we decided to go somewhere else. If you were greedy you might hire more bartenders so they could actually sell more drinks than you losing money by there only being 4 bartenders in the joint, at least that would make more business sense to me. Admittedly it was busy, but the waits on all accounts were not worth the scene unless you didn't go to drink. I will say on many levels the drinks did seem to be a bit steep and the bartenders were not friendly because they were so busy, and wiping sweat from the foreheads hopefully not to land in the cocktails...poor guys. Best of luck to you and that this may have helped you learn something about your establishment. The only time I can see myself truly going there is if I actually have to meet someone there or have guests in from out of town, but will strongly discourage it. read more

The Good : Nice music, lots of room, great drinks. The Bad: While I was in line to use the restroom, some guy cut in front of everyone and started heading to a restroom door. I politely said, "There are others in line and you shouldn't cut." He turned around to look at me, rolled his eyes, and said "*AHEM* I WORK here", then spun around, opened a door and slammed it on everyone's face. I was shocked at how rude this guy was, so when he came out of the restroom, I was about to tell him how rude he was, but he looked at me, rolled his eyes again, then walked away. I was quite insulted and asked his name, but he didn't even acknowledge and kept walking away. As a staff member he should never treat patrons that way, and probably should have NICELY explained that employees have their own restroom. Since I didn't get his name, I can tell you he was nearly 6' tall, slim, and Asian/Pacific Islander, and VERY rude to paying patrons. The Ugly: Actually, the bar was nice save the employee that was rude to everyone in line. read more

The bar staff in the rainbow room wasn't overly nice. I ordered a Diet Coke, wasn't given the proper change. Seriously. Not hard to make change for a $5. Just not impressed. Our bartender was AMAZING, and so sweet. He knew just what to make us. Everyone was polite, I had no trouble getting drinks, using the bathroom, talking to the bouncers, etc. Good for groups! My friends were waiting outside CC's to get into Darcelle's. I am pregnant so I couldn't wait that long with them and showed up after they had been standing outside for some time. I saw a table and chair and sat down, not knowing that the rude bartender from CC's told the girls not to sit at his table. He comes out and yells "get your @ss out of my chair. I am not going to tell you again!" I had no idea he had said it was off limits. I got up. A girlfriend yelled that I didn't know and I wasn't there when he told them before. Another told him I was pregnant. He said that he didn't give a damn that I was pregnant. He proceeded to yell at our group and tell us that "this is why women are better off as housewives". Ian who works at the door was extremely rude. I asked if he accepted military ID and he aggressively responded, "everyone is equal here". While I'm in full support of equality I was confused because that had nothing to do with my question... I told him that I was just wondering if there was a military discount because I had received one at Jones earlier that night and he said, "Well this isn't Jones". I was aware of that as well. His tone and choice of words were mean and unnecessary. Having a doorman who can't answer a simple question really puts a damper on a fun night out. Bad job Ian. read more

Really great that they have the rainbow room lounge as well as a killer dance floor. Dollar drinks on Wednesday is great as well as the dollar hours on Friday and Saturday. However, sucks if you are trying to buy someone else a drink as you both have to be present at the bar to buy. The security can get a little cut off happy as well. Best to go when it's busy as it makes the dancing more enjoyable. Drinks otherwise aren't cheap but they're not outlandish either. I think they should offer a ladies night for their lesbian counterparts also. Great location and love that there's no cover read more
