He said yes like it's just another regular facility but, ONCE we were shocked at what we found... ASIAN SNACKS: 10/10 Lots of my favorite snacks like wasabi shrimp snacks were available here. We are always blown away at how many ASIAN SNACKS were available here coming from the Inland Empire!!!LOL!!! I also found some greats deals in Noodles for HOTPOT. And also good deals on the PRICES in general. It looks like everything was about $2-$3 less than prices in the Inland Empire particularly in TEMECULA... Immediately greeted with their deals, one of which was a deal on my favorite coconut water, so we were off to a good start. This place was about 1/3rd of a typical Costco, but all Asian centric products. Produce selection was vast and appreciated. Snack game was on point. So many sauces, and in sizes you never see at a grocery store, so that was amazing. The thing that threw us off was the meat quality. Again, selection was vast, but we found the meat looked sad and old. This is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star, but a 4 star felt too generous due to the meat quality, or lack there of.

It was nice to see certain items that I had not seen in so long. The store is a bit on the smaller side, but whichever way you look, there's something for everyone. Goods are a bit pricier than most, but not many places sell goods directly from Taiwan. As others mentioned, it was very clean and have a good selection. It's been ages since I visited Taiwan but I do remember all the good food! The shop is tidy and they manage to pack a lot of items in here while still making it feel uncluttered. Some items they had for sale when I was here were various high grade oolong teas, the Taiwanese version of Otter Pops, pineapple cakes and soy sauce. They have a frozen section in addition to their shelf stable foods with items such as fish and various dumplings. While the cashier spoke both Mandarin and English, the person giving out samples of oolong teas only spoke Mandarin (In hindsight I should have asked if she spoke Taiwanese too). I'd love to come back next time I'm in the area to get more goodies for myself and as gifts.

Bottom Line Up Front: Great Wall Supermarket is a cramped…read moreChinese grocery store that has decent selection at affordable prices, but gets so busy it's not worth going to except right when it opens or right before it closes. The Layout: Like most other Asian grocery stores, it is poorly laid out. Great Wall's goal appears to be to pack in as much product as possible in its average-size store rather than focusing on the customer experience. In the produce section, you can barely get two carts to pass each other in opposite directions. Same story in the aisles with shelves. All it takes is one inconsiderate shopper to stop in the middle and there's an instant traffic jam. The Checkout Area: Same deal here. Great Wall packs pallets of products all around the cash registers to try to get people to make last-minute impulse buys when this area could be used instead to have logical serpentine lane dividers that could control the crowds who have lined up to pay. Instead, people form long lines that spill into the aisle with shelved products, preventing those who are still shopping from finding the items they need. The Customer Service: It's fine, which is a nice surprise -- most Asian establishments have horrible customer service with bad management. Workers aren't super friendly nor will they go out of their way to help you, but they are quick and competent. The Selection: The produce section has a good array of Asian fruits and veggies, but it's not as extensive as other places. They didn't have the one vegetable I was looking for: rau muong (AKA water spinach or ong choy) during my visit. There's a large meat and seafood section, a good amount of seasoning and dry goods, and a decent frozen food section. The Prices: Shockingly, the prices were moderate to affordable. A nice change of pace in the current economy of inflation and overpriced products. The Conclusion: Despite the selection and affordability, the layout, overcrowding, and lack of good management makes this grocer place low on my go-to list. Great Wall Supermarket is a very appropriate name, as the long lines of people waiting to check out blocks the aisles like the famous fortified structure in China. Go here only if you are low on options.

I had not been to this Great Wall (GW) Supermarket in over 6+ years, until a week ago. I was in the…read moreplaza to grab some food and while I was waiting for it to be ready, I stopped by GW to grab a few items. Last month, I shopped at the GW Supermarket location in Covina, due to the convenience of grabbing an item after meeting up with friends for lunch at Haven City. Even though Rowland Heights (and the surrounding areas) are saturated with Asian supermarkets, GW Supermarket is convenient if one is in the plaza grabbing a meal or a drink. It is always about location, location, location... I feel the prices are a bit higher than 99 Ranch or H Mart but it is due to convenience. I only needed to grab an item and looked around, but everything else was just so pricy that I just grabbed the one item. It seems with any GW location, the lines to checkout are always so long, and they had a few open. Parking here is always a bit tight, very narrow parking spots, and with the amount of storefronts is a lot. GW Supermarket would never be my go to, especially for the prices, the not very fresh produce, and the long lines, but it is convenient if I need to grab something if I am in the plaza.

I didn't get anything ready made, but might drive here for lunch sometime, lmao Good selection of different miso, some crafted miso as well. They have Organic Tofu for $1.99, and also packs of 3 nattos for $1.79-$1.99 We also got some umeboshi, which Cindy helped me find. Both of the staff I was talking to treated me kindly and were friendly! Also got Warabi Mochi Matcha - Must get! It's so addicting, the mochi is more jello like and so good + refreshing! The mugwort rice cake with red bean paste was also good, but I may reconsider getting this again, just not as good as the Warabi Mochi Matcha! Also picked up a Shimanoka Shiso - not sure how to use this yet, but very excited to have on bread or as a topping on rice. They have a good selection of ice cream, some cute utensils/pots/bowls section, as well as a small medicinal section. Really loved perusing this store, will probably be back since I realized I'm out of miso lol

I also have to preface though, this is one of the worst plazas in Rowland Heights, at least when it's peak lunch and dinner rush hour since there's so many eateries in this plaza, along with boba places and other businesses too. If the lot in front has no parking, you can try the structure in the back. If you're still unlucky, you can try street parking or you can park at any other plaza and walk over so long as there's no obvious valuables in your car. It's a bit cramped and claustrophobic, but that means its a well stocked supermarket. Every single time I've gone, it's never empty. Always some customers, always locals chatting with staff. There's a couple businesses inside the market as well, such as other eateries/places to pick up food and other small shops as well. Great place to pick up prepared Korean banchan and kimbap, as well as other traditional dishes. There's a decent amount of meat and seafood, as well as produce. Before it became easier to find, this was the only place I could find Tom Yum Buldak. Crazy, I know. My family and friends have found soju flavors here that they haven't anywhere else, same with random beverages and snacks. Great to stop by once in awhile, especially if you're in the area or if you're waiting for a table at any of the super busy restaurants.

Cleanliness is basically what you'd expect from an Asian Supermarket. Best thing about this market is the 62 Noodle street, which is a really overdue review on my end Was trying to buy some items when we noticed it rang up as more expensive than what we saw. Cashier basically told us the price scanned is what it is and don't look at the tag saying we saw the wrong items tagged and barcode. She basically told us she can't do anything since that's what it scans as. I'm pretty sure I checked the tag so we went back grabbed the tag and brought it up. The barcodes matched so we escalated to someone more knowledgeable since the cashier didn't want to do anything. After 5-10 mins someone finally came up and said that's the price on the tag and they had to honor it. Took a lot of effort and basically the blamed corporate/headquarters for changing the prices and them not updating their tags. Not sure how that makes sense, but that's their reasoning. So be careful and aware of prices here

I especially like stopping by for their ready-made meals, fresh produce, and unique seafood selection. The produce section is always clean, well-organized, and easy to shop. One of my favorite finds is their frozen fish slices--they're perfect for making fish porridge at home. I also keep an eye out for their fresh shrimp whenever they're on sale. They're sweet, firm, and have a wonderfully crisp texture. Before heading to the checkout, I almost always stop by the bakery. Their buy 5 get 1 free bread promotion is hard to pass up, and it's a great way to stock up for the week. Another tip: if you're shopping later in the day, check out the sushi section. They often mark down fresh sushi during certain hours, making it an even better value. If you're in the neighborhood and need groceries, fresh seafood, or a quick meal, don't let the ratings discourage you. It might just surprise you--I know it keeps me coming back!
